The Harsh Truth About the VJ Edgecombe Pick…
there you have it folks vj Edgecomb is coming home to Philly we’ve known it for about a month now but you got a question was it smokeokescreen is it real is it fake news obviously it was not the Sixers have been heavily interested in him since the beginning so that tells me that they really believe in this kid it was good to see him with his family you could tell he came from the bottom all the way up and they were really grateful and he seems like a very hard worker he kills every interview that he is in so I like him personally definitely a guy that’s easy to root for he’s doing the draft process the correct way unlike Ace Bailey so there’s that i don’t think it really means much that he’s easy to vote for but also I think them picking him at number three because pretty much every single scout has said the talent of Ace Bailey is top three that tells me that they believe VJ Edgecomb has more than just being a role player at the end of the day they believe he can improve his handles and become more of an onball threat the thing about his handles I don’t think he needs to improve drastically for it to help him in a big way like he’s got such a quick first step he doesn’t necessarily need to have like every single dribble combo in his bag i would honestly say shooting is more important to him because that will help open up his driving ability because defenders will have to respect him go over screens go under screens or off ball they’re going to have to close out on him hard if that three-point shooting drops off in terms of catch and shoot then defenders can help off of him off ball they’re not going to be rotating as quickly out to you know run him off the three-point line and once again there’s plenty of plays in the film where Baylor you know nothing’s going on the shot clock’s running down and VJ has the rock and he simply just blows past his initial defender because he’s too quick with the basketball so basically my point is I think shooting is very important for him in terms of you know taking another step offensively it’s just going to open up his game in a whole different way and he’s going to be more of a weapon off ball he’s already a weapon off ball because he’s so damn athletic cutting coming off screens and things of that nature and I’ve always believed in the shot you guys know this it looks very nice to me it looks like Aunt Edwards form in my opinion i’m also excited for the guard conundrum like is there too many guards on this roster or is this just one of the most lethal guard units in the NBA definitely going to be interesting to see how that pans out in the future but I would rather this situation than what we had last year we were where we had Kyle Lowry in the beginning of the year Reggie Jackson getting minutes as well Eric Gordon the guard rotation was so bad at the end of the year you saw Jeff Dowin being one of our better guards Jaylen Hood Shafino so going from that to Tyresese Maxi Jared McCain Quinn Grimes and VJ and even Jared Butler i mean that’s a great five guard rotation and if someone goes down you now have options of players who can potentially up their usage and actually you know help out in a winning way also VJ’s definitely a player I expect as he grows into his body as he gains more muscle i I feel like he already has an NBA ready body like he’s pretty built at 19 years old but I have heard scouts saying that in terms of point of attack defense he’s only going to be guarding ones and twos early in his career my hope for him is as he gains more NBA experience he can go up to the three position and he can guard threes and sometimes even smaller fours that’s kind of his whole identity he’s a feisty player he should be able to scale up defensively they like that’s a big thing about him that I hope he develops into because if he doesn’t that would be really disappointing in my opinion if he’s just guarding ones and twos and I think most of his impact from what the scouts are saying early on his defensive impact is going to be like Dean Anthony Melton where off the ball he’s going to be in passing lanes creating steals creating deflections and things of that nature i like the situation that he’s in with Philadelphia he really reminds me of Jaylen Brown because of his extreme athletic ability i think he’s at his best when you have a Joel Embiid type player or a Tyresese Maxi type player causing a double team and then it’s a swing swing scenario and he’s catching with no one on him and he has a driving lane and the defense is rotating he can take advantage of those situations because he’s so quick to the cup i think he’s going to develop into an elite finisher at the NBA level he he just gets off the ground so quickly he’s going to understand there’s a lot of drives where he’s out of control launching too far from the basket it’s a simple adjustment he can definitely make it and a lot of people bring up his layup percentage which is true he struggled finishing at the rim in college but also he’s one of the prospects that was dunking more than anyone and that’s not included in layup percentage and there are plays where you just see him have a great dribble move and then he’ll miss a bunny where you’re like “Okay he just missed a bunny next time he’s gonna make that percentages in college can be really deceiving in my opinion.” As we know Tyresese Maxi was not a good shooter in college but if you watch the film you saw he was taking off the dribble jumpers then VJ something that cooked his uh catch and shoot three-point percentage or just three-point percentage overall was he was taking off the dribble pull up three-pointers but he was bricking every single one of them i was just happy that he was willing to take those types of shots in game in college and the thing about him with off the dribble three-pointers is he’s so quick defenders will naturally give him space because they’re so worried about playing the drive so if he wants to develop that pullup yumper it should be there for the taking it should be easy for him to get opportunities in game to you know see where it’s at i’m hoping in the summer league we see exactly that i’m hoping in the summer league we see him on bigger forwards and he’s locking them down and they’re not moving him i’m also really excited because he’s an electric transition player and if you watch the playoffs Pacers and OKC just dominated in transition every single series and I guarantee you if you look at the stats game by game in the NBA finals that went to seven games whoever led in fast break points most likely won the game for me I I think the Sixers have been one of the worst transition scoring teams in the last few years i I mean how many times in the playoffs do we see Tobias Harris smoke a layup that was slightly contested instead of dunking it or DeAnthony Melton smoking a layup and those types of plays in the playoffs are like meaningful momentum changing plays like if you give it up they come back on the other end and score it just kind of hurts the morale and I remember when the Sixers were a playoff team I I just was so pissed at those types of plays but VJ he’s pretty much a guaranteed bucket when he has an advantage in transition because he can go above the rim above above the rim and he’s a high motor player this roster with Joel Embiid and Paul George older players low motor players at this point compared to you know successful teams they need to be surrounded by guys who hustle non-stop and play hard 24/7 and Tyres Maxi Jeremy McCain VJ Edgecomb fit into that category i’m very excited to see what he looks like in summer league i’m going to make an in-depth video on his offensive potential sometime tomorrow so stay tuned for that let me know your thoughts below

are you happy with the pick?
76ers even thinking about a pick shows their lost. VJ means nothing. Thinking a rookie means something to a team with 3 max. Players is insane
If you listened to his post draft interview the Sixers made the right pick. Ace already acting entitled and hasn’t played a minute of meaningful basketball. This kids a violent freak and I can’t wait to see him develop, and he will because his work ethic is insane
I like VJ Edgecombe, give him a chance.
How can he guard forward when he is under 6' 4". Please educate me on which guard under 6' 4" is guarding a 6' 7" or bigger and taller NBA player and doing a great job
Some of yall complain about everything. Yall rather they pick a player that didn't even want to come visit with the organization.. But then again most of you are delusional fans anyway.
I bet yall buy a used car without test driving it first..
tyrese, mccain, butler, lowry, one of these guys gotta bench from the starter
I think VJ and Maxxey in the back court is a Problem..! Your not gonna keep those two out of the paint…….. And yes. Philly has a lot working in their backcourt… Lot of talent
Can we please have a little faith in the guy that drafted Maxey and Mccain? Morey did his homework if Ace was truly the better prospect he would've taken him despite all the pre draft antics. The fact that Morey still took him when we're loaded with guards speaks volumes of what he sees in the kid.
Once Morey sat up there and said VJ had to work on his jumpshot I knew he was ass betting,we had to settle for what was available
i can see vj becoming an all star by year 3, he has great players around him and maxey is a great mentor for a young player like him. im feelin good about this season.
We need CENTERS!!!!! How m any dam guards on this team. We are a Small Team. Look at All the past Champs. Big Guards and Big Men that can Shoot the ball and defend. The Owner must love losing money. Wake Up. Get Morey and Nurse Our of Philly. Dr J can run this team better than these Soft No Clue Men. Joel and Paul George are a BUST.
Yb only 19 too; we know he’ll get bigger physicality wise but he might grow height wise some more
Ur a bozo. Aint watching this but had to make sure to drop a dislike
I'm sick of ppl saying we have no 3 like they didn't see Justin Edward's play last year. Then, as far as guards, it's not abnormal now to have 4 in your regular rotation. See: OKC and IND 🤦🏾♂️
DM chose VJ because he would be ripped in media if he grabbed Ace 3 overall considering he never visied or inerviewed for sixers. He would be fired in 2 seasons if ace failed. Much less pressure picking VJ since he was considered 3b and ace 3a. He chose safe choice for purpose of saving his job.
I know it's a different sport but just do what the Eagles do. They're a model sports franchise and all they do is pick dawgs. Can't go wrong. If it doesn't work, you can at least live with the results. I can't deal with another team full of elite talent not care enough to try.
I hope VJ becomes Maxey's shadow in terms of attitude and work effect which looks like he will do just that. Ace would have been a disaster and probably become cancer in the locker room battling with Maxey and the rest of the team.
Big 12 is tougher then big 10 so I think VJ played more consistent talent..VJ attitude and worth ethic is better, and with maxey helping with development, this kid is going to be an absolute beast..a straight DOG, WATCH
If we resign Grimes i dont see how he gets minutes
