So, could the Los Angeles Lakers be trading away Dalton Connect to the New Orleans Pelicans this 2025NBA off season? But this trade would see the Los Angeles Lakers receiving uh Yas Missy and Herb Jones and the New Orleans Pelicans receiving Dalton Connect Jared Vanderbilt a 2026 firstround pick swap and a 2031 first round draft pick. So in my personal opinion, this trade actually does fit the needs of both sides. Now, from the Lakers perspective, they’re getting back Herb Jones, who would sort of act as a replacement for the recently departed um Dorian Finny Smith. He of course went to the Rockets, signed that four-year deal there. So, they have a bit of a hole at their wing. Now, Herb Jones, offensively speaking, doesn’t bring a ton to the table. Uh but he’s a player that plays hard, good work ethic, uh defensively speaking, he’s pretty versatile. uh he can guard multiple positions and just truthfully speaking be a bit of an upgrade and kind of mask maybe some of the deficiencies that this Lakers team currently has on the defensive side of the basketball. So I think Herb Jones defensively speaking brings a lot of value to the table. He doesn’t have to have the ball in his hands to be successful and he could be a nice compliment player and as I mentioned before a replacement for Dorian Finny Smith. Now from the Pelicans perspective I don’t think it’s a terrible idea for them to kind of kick the can down the road and go for a bit of a rebuild. Now, they don’t have their first round draft pick next year due to that draft day trade with the Hawks. So, not super ideal there. They could probably hold off and be potentially just, you know, the the later bit of the lottery uh with this deal, but Dolan Connect, good young player, has a future in this league. Uh Jared Vanderbilt, 3 and D guy as well. Not a bad player to have on your roster. The 2026 first round pick swap likely isn’t anything, but that 2031 first round draft pick is where all the value lies here. Um the Lakers could be very well in the lottery at that point. I don’t think so. But truthfully speaking, that pick’s pretty coveted. They could flip that for some more assets. Whatever the case may be, they have that at their disposal. So despite the the Pelicans getting back a decent futuristic package, I would probably still go with the Lakers as the winner of this deal. I think Herb Jones fits this roster tremendously well, and that’s why I have the Lakers as the winners of this trade. But as always, leave your thoughts.
