The Cleveland Cavaliers Just SOLVED Their Biggest Problem…
So, I know I’m just kind of repeating myself at this point by saying this, but after the Cavs lost to the Pacers about a month ago, I was feeling pretty defeated, honestly, to a point where I would have been cool with the Cavs front office and Kobe Alman making some big trades, some irrational decisions too early. But as a few weeks went by and everything settled down, reality started to kick in. And I’m not saying I wanted this to be the case because it’s bad for the NBA and for the players who work so hard at their craft. But Tatum and Hallebertton are pretty much done for 2026. Miles Turner left Indiana. The East is wide wide open. And over the last three years, really the Achilles heel for Cleveland was not having a backup center. It was so frustrating at times. And I know the plan was to use Mobly and Allen back and forth after the first 5 minutes of the game to kind of spread out the minutes and serve as the backup. But clearly it didn’t work. If one of the two was ever hurt, we were screwed in the playoffs because Jared Allen can’t space the floor. On top of him being ultra soft, he barely was effective. So it was up to Moy to be the only competent center on the entire team. But now this offseason, Kobe Alman has gotten to work. Tyresese Proctor was taken in the draft, a guy with some sharp shooting upside. And then they traded for Lonzo Ball from the Chicago Bulls, sending Isaac Auroro their way. A move that definitely shook things up. Losing Ty Jerome definitely sucks. I’m kind of a little upset deep inside that he was never given another chance to return because he had a special season, but he was the worst player in the playoffs by far, the worst guy on the court. Everything he thrived on in the regular season got exposed even though it was his first time on that stage. So, I got to cut the man some slack. But Lonzo Ball, despite the injury history, is a guy with so much upside because of his size and frame for a guard, he’s a huge addition because of how the Cavs are trying to make this small backcourt of Garland and Mitchell work. And I’ve seen some clips already of him working out overseas. I think he is in Fiji right now or something like that. And I mean the footwork looks smooth. He seems healthy. So only time will tell for if he can even come back and become consistent on the floor once again. But the great thing is that he does not have to be a hero. Everything he adds to this team both offensively and defensively is an added bonus. But let me talk about the real point of this video. I think Larry Nance Jr. even at age 32 is a big addition. Even though he’s not that relevant anymore as a player, he’s familiar with Cleveland. It’s in his name, and I think his size, position, and skill set fits exactly what the Cavs need as a backup big. He’s a guy that is so much better than Dean Wade. He can shoot it from time to time. He is more than willing to play inside and rebound. He’s not as soft as Wade. He’s more agile, but the one thing that worries me is that the Cavs still just have too many injury-prone players on the roster. Darius Garland, he’s always injured, especially for the big stage. Dean Wade, he will be out for half of the games of the season. Lonzo Ball is obviously one of the most injury-pagged players in the league thus far. Hopefully, he can turn that around and hopefully he can recover. And then Larry Nance is also at a risk of being injured, especially more and more as he ages. And the reason he has been passed around the league so much is that he is not good enough of a player for a certain team to commit to him if he is always going to be injured. But again, in this new situation and new environment in Cleveland, he’s probably looking at a role where Kenny Atinson will be asking him to play about 8 to 12 minutes a game. Just go in a game when Moley needs some rest. There usually is about 8 minutes of a game where both Allen and Moy sit at the same time. And then in the playoffs, I really think he is a guy that will be willing to get dirty and make plays. I don’t view him as that much of a snowflake. Obviously, I’ve not seen him in the environment, but we have seen him make plays in clutch situations. back in 2019, I believe it was, he tipped in a buzzer beater off a miss when he was the only guy in the paint surrounded by three guys for the win. But again, he has to be healthy to be able to play physical. And last year in Atlanta, he only played in 24 games. But even still, as a diehard fan, if the Cavs want to win at all, or at least make their way through the East, which they have to do to avoid everything getting blown up by the front office, this was a move that just makes me feel so much more secure and comfortable about the depth of this team because you can’t go throughout a season and postseason without a backup center. That’s been the thing that has failed them for all these years. And now that problem is solved. Nance should be more than capable of playing 8 to 12 minutes or so per game. And then Dean Wade being there too adds even more depth because now we could get to a place where Wade is barely even in the rotation and he can just eat up some of the blowout minutes or he can plug in when someone gets injured. You don’t want Dean Wade to be the guy you rely upon as the backup to where if he gets hurt there is not another NBA level big on the roster or if Moy gets hurt where he has to be the one to slide into the starting lineup or play over 25 minutes a game. Now having Non Wade, Kenny Yaginson won’t have to make any panic decisions with his rotations and also this team won’t be one injury away from losing everything because to be completely honest, the Cavs were fortunate with injuries for most of last season. The team was healthy. Obviously Garland got hurt before the playoffs, but that was just a given. That always happens. And you got other teams like the Bucks losing Dame, the 76ers losing Embiid. The Cavs were healthy. And in the NBA, backto-back seasons of full health is nearly impossible. So, I’m glad the front office went out and got all these depth pieces with high upside for if somebody gets hurt because you don’t want to put Kenny Atinson in a spot where he has to make fast decisions and give big roles to guys who shouldn’t be in them. Anyways, moving on. The next thing that I want to talk about is the regular season. Maybe this will be a controversial topic, maybe it won’t, but honestly, I could care less about the win loss record next year. There’s no point in winning 70 games. Obviously, you want to play well because it shows you’re a good team, but I really think the Cavs should just coast through the regular season. They need to heat up over the last month or so. There’s literally no benefit from being a one seed as to being a six. It’s the same thing. You get one home game, but if you split the first two, it doesn’t matter. You take home court advantage back anyways. And in the playoffs, you just have to go out there and play physical and win games. Really, what I want to see in those big games, games against the Lakers, the Bucks, who now have a loaded front court, obviously the Knicks, those teams. I want to see the Cavs get physical even in the regular season. Again, the wins and the losses in the regular season won’t matter at all. I want to see Jared Allen throw an elbow to get somebody out of the paint. I want to see him grab a huge rebound in a big moment over Miles Turner because if being soft in the regular season still allows you to have success because being soft in the regular season still allows you to have success because other teams are playing laid-back as well. But that’s what’s come back to screw the Cavs over and over again with this current team. Because we all know the regular season and postseason is barely even the same sport anymore. When you win 65 games and barely have to make any adjustments all season and you steamroll over everyone, it makes you become a bit complacent even if you don’t intend to. But then we saw this team start to panic and back down when we flipped to the playoffs and all of a sudden Miles Turner was in the paint banging shoulders, moving people around, and actually playing with some fight and toughness. It was like Jared Allen didn’t know what hit him. So, more than anything, obviously, I love the additions, and I think they will go a long way in terms of depth for like five to 10 games in the regular season. I want to see the front court playing nasty and get physical because you have to be prepared for what is going to come under the bright lights. And because the East is going to be so wide open, the Cavs are going to have a target on their back. I’m assuming they will probably coast through the year as the one seed. But, as we saw in that Pacer series, when teams don’t match up in terms of the talent, they’re going to play physical, play tougher. They’re going to grab your jersey, commit lane violations, not allow you to move around. They’re going to try to level the playing field, and clearly the NBA is okay with it. So, the Cavs have two choices here. They can continue to sit there and play soft and think they deserve to win and win all regular season long because they have more talent, or they can match the physicality, box out, play aggressive, and play mean, play with a chip on their shoulder. And that’s what I ultimately think 2026 comes down to. But anyways, I’m curious to hear what you guys think. What do you think about the Larry Nance Junior edition? I’m super happy that he’s back. He’s a Cleveland legend and he’s just a great guy in general. I remember meeting him a few times back when I was like 12 years old and now I’m 20. It’s crazy how fast time flies. But yeah, man. I think the cavs would have won the chip if they traded Darius garland for Ben Simmons. It’s because we need 3 point shooting and Simmons is the perfect fit. We also could have traded Mobley for Alex Len because we need. Good defender and Mobley ain’t enough. Do you agree?
We can’t play Clean basketball anymore next season I wanna see Allen and Mobley shove and foul hard like what Nesmith did to us in the Playoffs.
For me the front office should try to trade Garland and Allen. The core four are already 4 yrs if I'm not mistaken and so far only won 1 game in 2nd round is the best they've accomplished.
was it ty Jerome or Kenny Atkinson?? I feel like I seen this before with d Angelo russle and that nets team, something about Kenny as a coach he just gets people paid like Jeff Teague says
Nice vid Spencer, I don't think Al horford has been signed yet and I feel like we can put him on a veteran contract for one year just as a backup center just in case. I feel like half the guys in the summer league are either going to be either g-league or overseas stashed depending on if they are in international or not. So as long as we stay healthy I feel like this is going to be a good season.
