Indiana Pacers – Myles Turner to Bucks a good thing! Upgrade coming! Fever win Commissioner’s Cup!

We got a lot of basketball to talk about this morning. The Indiana Pacers said goodbye yesterday to Miles Turner. And it’s not a bad thing. A lot of people are ruing this departure of Miles Turner north to Milwaukee. It’s nothing to rule. Miles Turner being gone is not a bad thing for the Indiana Pacers. It is a good thing. We wish Miles Turner the best. I hope he’s very, very happy in Milwaukee. And I hope that $ 107 million over the next four years spends really well. But I am not going to waste a single second thinking that the Pacers did something wrong here. They did not. They saw mediocrity, offered mediocre money to a mediocre player, and that mediocre player found a better place for him financially than would have existed in Indiana. This is a win-win. Miles Turner is going to get what he wants, and that’s more money. The Pacers are going to get what they want, and that’s better basketball. Miles Turner was an ill-fitting piece in this Rick Carile basketball machine. Make no mistake about that. Fever last night, win the Commissioner’s Cup without Caitlyn Clark. Kind of worried. I got to tell you the truth. You scored 12 points in a quarter like the Fever did in the first quarter. and you think, “Hey, this isn’t going well for the uh the blue and the gold and the red and the white and all the colors that the Fever represent on their uniform.” But you know what? They got the W and we had really, really good analysis and descriptions of the game because the great Michael Grady was on the call. It was a win-win for everybody last night. Watched the game and enjoyed every single second of it. The links not very good last night offensively. So the Fever win that half million dollars because they won by 15 points. No big whoop, but include a comment or a question to elevate the level of discourse on the channel, will you? All right. Let’s talk about Miles Turner. This is an optimism Wednesday and it’s not a stretch to be optimistic about Miles Turner’s departure for the Milwaukee Bucks. Milwaukee, I hope they’re happy with a center that shoots shoots threes and gets two blocks a game. I hope that they are pleased with that acquisition and that that that lifts their spirits. Evidently, it did not lift the spirits of Giannis Antmpo. Randy Smith says, “I’m glad we didn’t resign Turner. Without Hallebertton, we got nothing. Uh, we got something. This this still a good functional team. This is a team that’s going to win more than it loses. It’s not a team that’s going to tank. Don’t even give any thought to that. It’s not going to tank. They’re going to be fine. Look, Nemhard is fine as a point guard. Mathan is going to score buckets. Seakum is still an allstar. Nmith still good. They got to figure out center, but I think they’re going to wind up with an upgrade at center. And I think when we convene here, oh, let’s say in 6 months, we’re going to be very, very pleased with the result of this transaction. All right. Uh, Miles Turner to the Bucks, four years, $17 million. I think the Pacers showed financial restraint. Just because some other idiot is willing to pay for mediocrity does not mean that you should. So don’t don’t overpay for mediocrity. That’s how you wind up in uh luxury tax hell. So don’t do it. This is going to wind up being a non-transaction for the Pacers that the Pacers look back on and have great glee in their hearts for. Um paying a diminishing asset $30 million a year would have been heresy. It would have been irresponsible. three years 60. That’s a bit of a different thing. And if that’s what was offered and Miles didn’t take it, cool. That’s what was offered and that’s the way it goes. Uh, we should go all in on Joker. Joker ain’t going anywhere. I love it. Bring back Sabonis. Haha. Uh, not too silly except he’s going to cost an average of 45 million each year over the next three. So, I don’t know who you move in order to free up that kind of camp space to be able to acquire him. I don’t know who you would trade to sync up those expenses. So, I don’t think that that’s going to happen. You You saw what happened. Sabonis went out. Sabonis is an all-star center. They got back Hallebertton and they improved, right? This is what I’m talking about. Turner’s quality offensive growth uh was due in many ways to Tyrese Hallebertton who’s not going to play next year. So part of unlocking the potential of Miles Turner as an offensive basketball player was the presence of Tyrese Hallebertton and Tyrese ain’t going to be here. So what do you get then from Miles Turner with Andrew Nemhard at the point? What you would get is more diminishing returns. I he’s gone from 18 to in the 16s to in the 15s over the last two years. And now you’re not going to have Tyrese on the floor to open up space for Turner in the corner. So, how’s he going to score buckets? He can’t rebound. He’s not a willing or adept passer. He can’t score on the block. Defensively, if he’s not blocking a shot, he’s a liability. So, what what is it that you’re going to miss about Miles Turner is my question. uh minutes are going to go to somebody and it is exceptionally likely that that person is going to meet or exceed the rebounding numbers per minute or per 36 for Miles Turner. It would be hard not to. If you’re 6’11, you’re likely going to get more rebounds than Miles Turner, no matter what level of basketball you play at. As for scoring, the Pacers need to find Now, here’s kind of where the math gets murky to tell you the truth. This isn’t all roses because Hallebertton’s gone. So you’ve got to replace 2179 points in total from the 24-25 season. That’s lost between Hallebertton and Turner. That’s 26 and a half points a game. We couldn’t trade Matan and Topin for draft picks and Joker. No, nobody’s trading Noli Joker. Nobody. Uh Nuggets are not going to make that kind of deal. And and even if they did, what then what what do you got? You got a real good center and you’ve surrounded him with D Smith, Nebard, and uh McConnell. You you really then you paint yourself into a a a hard corner. So let’s not even that be Hey, any idea is a good idea. All the ideas go on the board. There is no judging the ideas, right? when when we when we go through the brainstorm and we list the ideas, there’s no judging until we choose one of those directions to go. Um, no way to replace that scoring with two guys, the scoring you lose with Hallebertton and Turner. But if nine rotational players, and this is a huge ask, can kick in another three points each, there’s your 27 points. All right, that’s kind of what you have to do. You have to find a way to have Benedict Mathan score not 16 a game which he averaged last year but probably averaged 22. That covers him and some for another guy. Then you’ve got to find another 20. Can Topphen get some of that? Somebody who plays center the the 32 minutes that you’re going to miss from Turner. Can can that guy get 10? Then you’re kind of in business. you’re you’re kind of figuring out a way to cobble together that 26 and a half points, but that is a hard ask. As the roster stands right now, you’re not gonna you’re not going to find another 26 and a half. You have to make improvements, and Kevin Pritchard is going to do just that. I don’t know how. That’s Kevin Pritchard’s business. He is a really clever general manager who understands how to put together an aggregate that lifts beyond the quality of the individuals. That’s what he does. He can moneyball this thing as good as anybody in the NBA. Uh maybe a defender who’s going to be able to move his feet is going to be signed. Wouldn’t that be nice? Could get in the way of somebody attacking the rim. That’d be a nice upgrade. Uh Hollinger stats for Miles Turner. Now listen, I cited peer yesterday and that’s play his player efficiency rating which ranks 36. And somebody I think correctly pointed out, look, a lot of the guys who are above Miles Turner in efficiency are guys who um uh didn’t play so very much. And and that’s absolutely true because hey, you got 30 teams. Miles Turner’s 36th. So, you got a lot of guys who didn’t play as many minutes, uh, miles over 2,000 minutes. Absolutely true. But here’s what’s also true. There are statistics that reward quantity of play as well as quality of play and and assess quality of play through that very prism. Value added has nothing to do with the amount of minutes played, right? And value added is actually enhanced by the number of minutes that you play. Miles Turner ranked 18th as a comp. Goa Batadza. We remember Goa. Goa was 16th. People laughed at me. They laughed. They laughed at me. They laughed at me. Mary, they laughed at me for saying that I thought that one day Goabatza had it in him to be an NBA Allstar. There was mockery. I stand by it. I still think that Gogetanza has a shot to be an all-star and he outplayed according to these statistics Miles Turner last year. How about estimated wins added? That’s enhanced by the number of minutes you play. He was 18th. Goa 16th. True shooting percentage. People say, “Oh my god, the stretch five, you’ve got to have a stretch five because you got to be able to score points and spread the floor.” are a true shooting percentage which has nothing to do with minutes played 30th in the NBA. Uh Gogetanza 22nd and there were nine centers that ranked on top of Turner in terms of games played and and true shooting percentage. So this among starting centers in the NBA, Miles Turner was mediocre and that’s the only way you can grade him. There is no area other than blocks. And really, you know, it’s not like three blocks a game anymore like there was in one season where he was very very active. There’s two blocks a game, 1.8 blocks a game. And that’s what you’re going to hang your hat on and pay a guy $30 million for. You out of your mind. Randy Smith says, “I think Koga’s potential is higher than Turner.” It is. His present value is higher than Turner. Randy Smith says, “We couldn’t.” Oh, that we already got to. Uh, yes, absolutely. Go’s present value is higher than Turner. I would rather pay Gogetza 20 million a year than Miles Turner 20 million a year. Call me crazy. Uh, Turner, by the way, we don’t feel sorry for Miles Turner. Oh my god. He’s got to leave the Pacers where he’s he’s made himself a home for the past 10 years. He has made 140,349,84 according to Spotra. Uh we’re going to remember him as a very nice guy. And this is not a Paul George exit where we’re like, “Hey, uh don’t let the door hit you where the Lord split you.” That’s not what this is. We like Miles Turner as a guy. We just acknowledge the fact that he’s not worth $26.75 million a year. He’s not. What he’s worth to the Bucks is more than he’s worth to the team that employed him the last 10 years. What does that tell you? Uh fever. So this is good. This is good for Miles, good for the Pacers. It’s good for everybody. We wish Miles Turner the best. We do. Fever won last night 7459. They win the uh Commissioners Cup, which is 500 grand to be split among the players. The bad news in this game was Red Panda fell down off her unicycle, had to be taken off the court on a a wheelchair. What? Scott Agnes posted this on Twitter. I almost fell down. Red Panda is Money in the Bank. The best halftime act, period, in the world. and she fell down last night. Even the great red panda can fall. How about uh Natasha Howard last night 0 for five to open the game. Yikes. Not real good. But the last part of the game, the the remainder of the game, she was four for five and hit all her foul shots. 16 points. She was the MVP of the Commissioners Cup. Good for her. Caitlyn Clark out. You know what? That’s a problem, but not so much last night. Turner. This generation’s Roy Hibbert. Got to tell you the truth. I’d take Roy Hibbert. Honest to God. Let’s celebrate some birthdays, shall we? Smash that like and subscribe, y’all. Brian Burton, he’s the man. Uh birthdays being celebrated today. Uh the great Donna Anthony, the great Marla Fischer, Katie Ays Shrock celebrating a birthday. Worked with both Mara and Katie at uh Intercom here in Indianapolis. Patty Sinx Watson. Jerry Bentley. Happy birthday. The great Cat Raphael celebrating a birthday. Happy birthday to Cat. Uh Janet Drier, happy birthday. Robert Reynolds, Chad Smith, Simon Septton, happy birthday. Jeremy Snopes, and Sharon Evans, happy birthday. If today’s your birthday, you celebrate like hell. If it’s not your birthday, you celebrate somebody else. That’s best done with an honest and specific compliment. Lift each other. Don’t pull each other down. Come on now. Don’t pull each other down. We got enough of that in the world. Don’t be negative about things. Be positive. This is optimism Wednesday. Feel good about people. Feel good about Miles Turner moving on. Feel good about your Indiana Fever. Feel good about your opportunity to win this personally autographed slick 8×10 from uh Payton Manning or this awesome Rams jersey autographed by Pro Football Hall of Famer Jack Young Bloodood. Let’s go. Radio show in exactly 6 minutes. And then later today, hey, we’re going to have an update on the injuries. We’re going to talk to a doctor. I don’t do this very often. We’re going to talk to a doctor about the injuries of Tyrese Hallebertton, Caitlyn Clark, and Anthony Richardson. Kind of get the lowdown on these injuries a little bit. We’ll post that kind of midday. And then, of course, Inside Indiana Sports Now this afternoon about 4:00. I can’t wait.

Myles Turner gone to Milwaukee, but spill no tears for the Indiana Pacers – they will be just fine without the 10-year veteran center.
Indiana Fever wins the Commissioner’s Cup while Caitlin Clark nurses her groin strain!

  1. Thank you Kent Sterling you said nothing but the truth.Pay no attention to these idiot fans in the comments, they simply have a love affair with Mediocrity.Pacers are such a talented team that they don't need Turner scoring big time points to win games, they needed Turner to be that guy at the Center who could give them 10+ rebs and Post Defend. In 10 seasons Turner hasn't come close to that at all.I actually thought Pacers were going to beat OKC because of the Myles Turner matchup against Stickman Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein.Turner was hot garbage against these guys and they're the weakest tandem of all the rounds Pacers played up to the Finals.Pacers are Champ if Myles Turner gave them 12pts 10 rebs and Post Defense. In the Finals Turner gave us 10pts 4 rebs and No Post Defence.Good riddance to Turner I won't miss this Lego Maniac at all.

  2. Adios Myles, It has been a joy watching you grow as a basketball player and a man. Best of Luck. You will be missed, but not forgotten.

  3. Myles Turner has some characteristics that are really good… none that are elite, and some that are average. That doesn't equate to $107 mil for four years. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I support your right to post it, but let me leave you with this…
Game 7 of the NBA Finals…
Major player goes down with a serious injury…
    6pts, 4rebs, 1ast…
    That's NOT stepping up…
    That's NOT $107 mil.

  4. The pacers should have done a sign and trade. With this move they are left with MLE which is amounting to around 14m. They also didn't worked hard to get Ayton which was a very reasonable 8m per year.

Regardless how or where you look at it. The pacers need a player to play the 5. If you want to trade for Kessler you need 2 1st round picks and 1 young talent. Personally this is too much for someone not sure if he can play under the system of the pacers or play its pace.

Maybe Herb Simon will play the 5.

  5. Not saying what the Bucks did was smart. Bold yes. However I will say this without fear of being wrong, I would take a bet on this. I'm willing to bet that the Bucks will pay off Dame's dead money the Bucks owe him before the Pacers return to an NBA final any time soon.
The Pacers had a good rin but the reality is…the party is over.
