Grizzlies Trade Jay Huff To Pacers For Second Round Picks

Grizzlies Trade Jay Huff To Pacers For Second Round Picks

The summer of trades continues to happen. It was just reported that Jay Huff is heading to Indiana. They’ve been looking for a backup big man to help join their rotation and they got one right here. And honestly, this was a good transaction by the Pacers. Kevin Pritchard does it again. Continues to help make his team better. And here you see Andrew Nemhar, Benic Mathan, Aaron’s, Pascal, Sarkakum, and obviously with Miles Turner gone, they’ve had to go out and try to figure out this front court position as it’s not as ideal as it seemed it would be when the draft was happening because we all were on the assumption that it was a foregone conclusion that Miles Turner would be returning to Indiana. But you hope they bring back Thomas Bryant. Maybe even torn Achilles recovery, Isaiah Jackson. Now Tony Bradley, Jay Huff, and their own true like backup bigs. I don’t know why we have Fury there on hoopsite, but they Jarus Walker would be the third string currently. They did draft Cam Jones and Taylor Peter. Tyresurn’s expected to miss the entire season with torn Achilles. TJ McConnell, Ben Shepard, and Obie Toppin and Jarus Walker will make up the back end. As I said earlier, I mean, Enrique Freeman, from my understanding and conversations, he’s undersized and everything. They’re going to kind of move on from there. And Thomas Bryan had a great, you know, resurgence year being healthy and actually being able to be an impact performer. And Jay Huff actually finally broke out. He left the Denver Nuggets after playing there for the 23-24 season and spent the 24 to 25 season with the Memphis Grizzlies, having signed a multi-year deal. and he shot 51 and a half% from the field, 40 and a half% from the three-point range. He’s a, you know, three and D big man who can pick and pop off the pick and roll and will is someone who has a little bit of, you know, the ability to protect the rim as well. Not much of a rebounder either. He’s been, you know, bounced around the Lakers, the Wizards, as we mentioned, the Nuggets earlier. And this is someone that had played for the Virginia Cavaliers. He’s 7’1. He’s the age of 27. and he was actually, you know, the G- League block leader leader a few seasons ago. So, for a budget move that they had to find something to help them out, I think they did a decent job with what they had because this isn’t a good free agent class. It’s not. And they need rebounding and rim protection. And with the centers that are left available currently, it it’s it’s slim pickings. Mo Vagner went back to Orlando. DeAndre Aiden went to the Lakers. Al Horford isn’t coming to Indiana. So, you had Precious at Chew. He was kind of like a mobile defensive guy. Jackson Hayes went back to the Lakers. You have Thomas Bryan who obviously regained his mojo with Indiana. He’s floor spacing big man who can block shots, averaged six and a half points, four rebounds, about a block a game, just under a block game on 51% and 32.4% from the three-point range. And then you get down to Marvin Baggley outside of Isaiah Jackson, DeAndre Jordan. So, this was really the best move that they could have done with what they had. So, I’d like to hear your guys’ thoughts. That’s it.

Following the departure of myles turner, the indiana pacers have acquired 7-foot-1 center jay huff from the memphis grizzlies in exchange for a second-round pick and a second-round pick swap. Huff averaged 6.9 points, 2 rebounds, and nearly 1 block in 11.7 minutes last season, shooting an impressive 41% from three-point range across 64 games.

Cyro Asseo breaks down the trade and what huff brings to the pacers’ frontcourt rotation.

  1. Jay huff is a beast he can shot and block shots I wonder why he isn’t a valuable backup big

  2. Solid move feels need. Save money resign Mathurin. Play young guys and inflate numbers and value until Tyrese returns and is 100%. Then spend your money make the move. Well played again Pritchard

  3. Was worried this whole week since we lost myles. This move is on par with the nesmith-brogdon trade.

  4. Watched some of Jay's highlight videos and was very impressed. And his per-36 numbers are comparable to Myles. He's a plus 3 point shooter and a plus shot blocker. Looks like the perfect backup C. I'm guessing we'll see the Pacers run Toppin and Siakam in combination at C and PF quite a bit. Huff and IJax will split the remaining minutes at C with Jarace playing a lot of backup PF. I'm ready for the season to start!
