Orlando Magic Sign Moritz Wagner My Thoughts!!
Yo, what’s going on guys? It’s Houston Sports Talk back into another video today. And today, the Orlando Magic have resigned Mo Vagner or or more known as his full name is Maurice uh Vagner. Um but Mo but called Mo Vagner. Um is resigning with the Magic on a one-year $5 million deal. Was the 25th overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft for the Los Angeles Lakers. 28 years old. He’s coming off a torn ACL, but was playing really well for Orlando this year, was was having the best year of his career before the injury. So, I think yes, it’s you’re signing a guy who’s coming off a torn ACL, but the price of of 5 million on a one-year contract for a guy that was averaging 13 points per game and five rebounds per game, shooting 36% from three, which was uh one of the best of his career that that is a careerhigh. So he was averaging the most points per game in his career and shooting the best from three he had shot in his career and that was in 19 minutes per game averaging 13 and five with 36% from three and you get him back for 5 million. Um I think it’s great to bring him back not only because the fact that he played so well for Orlando last year but also the fact that the brothers are still on the same team. Um, I I always love when I’m watching inside the NBA and I hear Shaq uh talking about the Vagner boys and and him doing the, you know, the German accent. It’s always so funny. But, um, you know, I think this is a great signing for Orlando with bringing back Vagner because he is a great presence for their bench. And I think you look at Orlando last season and they they were not as good last season as they were in the 2023 24 season. And I think a big reason that plays into is number one they were terrible with three-point shooting and they’ve done a great job of improving that this off season adding in Jace Richardson Tus Jones Desmond Bane but also another big reason was was because of some of the guys that they missed Paulo Beno and France Vagner Mo’s brother missed a lot of time at times last season but two guys who missed a lot of time that were great for Orlando last year as well was Mo Vagner who towards ACL and then also Jaylen Suggs missed a lot of time as well. So, sure, three-point their three-point struggles definitely played an impact on them falling from being the four or five seed like they were. They were be they were the five they dropped down from the five se five seed to the seven seed. I think a big role big reason why that happened was sure they they they sucked from three-point shooting, but they they weren’t great three-point shooting this season before that either the 2023 24 season. I think their injuries really hurt them with both Vagner, Ben Carro, and Suggs. So, if they can get back and get healthy that next season, if they can get healthy, plus now they’ve added Desmond Bane, Jace Richardson, and Taius Jones, I think Orlando is one of those teams that could be a threat to the teams like the Cavaliers or the Knicks that you look at as the favorites to win the Eastern Conference. And when I say they win the Eastern Conference, I’m talking about the regular season. Um, I think it’s too early to be talking about who’s going to come out of the Eastern Conference or Western Conference and go to the NBA Finals, but I’m just talking about who could be the best team in the Eastern Conference during the regular season. Right now, I think the two favorites to do that, to be the best team, best record in the Eastern Conference during the regular season. The favorites are the Cavs and the Knicks, but I think Orlando’s that team right outside them that has the best shot to get it outside of them and be a real threat um with their defense and their improve and their improved three-point shooting. But this is definitely a great resigning. I The other thing I will note with this signing is there is a no trade clause for this for this signing. So Vagner, if the Magic want to trade him, he controls where he wants to go, but this is not like a Bradley Beal or LeBron James type situation. This is the second no trade clause that’s been handed out. There’s only four in the league now. LeBron, Bradley Beal, Moagner, and Jackson Hayes. Now, you look at LeBron James or Bradley Beal. Those are I I look at those two no trade clauses, and th those are bad no trade clauses cuz Bradley Beal when when he signed his deal. Bradley Beal signed a five-year deal with a no trade clause. That means that that that no trade clause is active for 5 years. LeBron last offseason signed a two-year deal that came with a no trade clause. So, two years of LeBron having a no trade clause. Now, look at this signing or the Lakers resigning Jackson A yesterday where these two guys have no trade clauses. And there’s really not much time where you’d look to trade him really. I mean, because he’s a recent signing. You can’t trade him right now. It’s you he’s not it’s not he’s not eligible to be traded until December, January, that range. You can’t trade him in the next off season because he’s going to be a free agent next off season. So the way I look at it at it is that he is not this is not a this is not a bad thing to give a no trade clause to this guy because you know to to give the no trade clause to Mo Vagner because of the fact that there’s only one time you look to trade him like you look at look at how many of the opportunities the Phoenix Suns have had to trade Bradley Beal this off season the tra this past trade deadline the offseason before that and there’s another two years left on his contract So that’s that’s a really negative no trade clause. This Mo Vagner, they can’t trade him right now if they wanted to cuz he’s a recently signed player. Maybe they would look to trade him at the trade deadline. I don’t think they would. And you know, then off season comes, there’s nothing to worry about. He’s a free agent. So I don’t think there’s a lot of negatives on a no trade clause if it’s only a one-year deal. Let me know your thoughts on the signing in the comments section. And peace out.
