Lillard to the Bucks: The Re-Grade 🀝

So, the Damen Lillard era in Milwaukee is officially over. So, let’s regrade the original trade. So, as a reminder, this was a three-team trade with the Suns, and it came out of nowhere. Nobody thought Dame was going to the Bucks. The Bucks were also coming off a season where they were the one seed. So, yeah, of course, I thought they won this trade. But, of course, fast forward to today, and between a bunch of on and off the court issues, including just a weird onthe-court disconnect between Giannis and Dame, it just didn’t work, and they didn’t win a single playoff series in two years. Now for the Blazers, they took Drew Holiday and flipped him to the Celtics for two guys who haven’t really done anything. A 2029 first and a 2024 first that they then traded to the Wizards for Denny Odia, who’s arguably their best player. They also got Tummani Kamara from the Suns, who believe it or not might be the best player remaining from this trade. So final grades. I mean, yeah, at the time it just felt like the Bucks didn’t give up that much for a 32-year-old Dame who was coming off one of the best years of his career. But in hindsight, wow, this did not work

  1. I gave this an F for the bucks when it happened, idk how any analyst could think putting 2 40% usage volume scorers next to each other while sacrificing perimeter defense would be a good idea.

  2. Giannis ain’t as skilled as he’s made out to be. Harden got hate for pointing this out. Milwaukee can dump it down to Freak all they want but unless he ups his assists the bucks will falter. Giannis is the common denominator along with the Bucks GM. After they won they cleared out and have fallen down the pecking order. Trade Freak and bring in a quality scorer and facilitator

  3. They sounded unstoppable on paper, but unfortunately we saw that Dame just wasn’t enough for the team to actually go anywhere

  4. dame and giannis played 1 playoff game together. dame came back from w blood clot so he had a really bad game. we never really saw what they could accomplish cause they never really played together in the playoffs

  5. Dame one of my favorite players of all time man, seeing the bucks fail the last two years and him tearing his achilles is heartbreaking. Wish he stayed in portland 😒

  6. I think its because Dame has spent so many years being the GUY, he never got used to playing with someone that was better than him and with a different skill set

  7. The worst part of this trade for the bucks was that it brought Jrue Holiday to the Celtics on a silver platter dight after they traded Marcus Smart, Jrue was a huge upgrade, cut the Jay's turnovers and was a huge part of their championship.

  8. Suns: F getting sweep in the first round, missing the playoffs next season, and 3 of 4 players from this trade gone(Grayson Allen only one left

Celtics: A- The Jrue Holiday flip work because they got on to win a championship in 2024 and was there keep get an better defensive PG.

  9. At least the bucks tried to maximize their time with Giannis, I would rather see them go out and at least try to be good. Who cares about the future when you have the best player in the world in his prime

  10. How could you give the Bucks an A+ at the time. There were some real risks and Holliday to Boston was immediately obvious. Maybe it was a smart trade, but not an A+ at all.
