The Washington Wizards might have the best young core in the NBA. The Washington Wizards basically got Cam Whitmore, who’s only 20 years old, about to be 21 in a few days for basically free. They only gave up two second round picks. Cam Whitmore was just never able to get consistent in minutes with the Houston Rockets. They were one of the deepest teams in the league last season, but when he played, he showed a lot of potential to be a great scorer in this league. To talk about the rest of this Washington Wizards young court, let’s start with Trey Johnson, who they just drafted out of Texas. a legit three-level scorer, one of the best shooters in this draft, and I think he’s actually a sleeper to win rookie of the year this season. Then they got Alex Rar. Alex Rar is only 20 years old, probably should have been the number one overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. This guy has a lot of potential, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I think he’s going to be an AllNBA defender and probably a DPI candidate a lot in his career. Next up, I want to talk about Balak Koulali because I feel like Balag Kulabali is one of the more underrated young players in the league. He’s barely about to turn 21, but this guy has showed a lot of promise so far in his young career, especially as a two-way player. He’s such a high IQ player. I feel like a lot of people don’t really know who he is, but during this season, I feel like a lot of people are going to start hearing his name a lot. Next up, I want to talk about Bub Carrington because I feel like Bub Carrington is better than a lot of people think. He was the Washington Wizards first round pick last season. He’s only about to be 20 years old, but I feel like he’s one of those players like his stats from his rookie season don’t really jump off at you, but when you actually watch him play, you can tell that he’s a high IQ player. He has a lot of feel for the game. I think he has a lot of all-star potential. I think he’s in for a breakout year in year two. Next up, we got to talk about AJ Johnson because I’m very intrigued with AJ Johnson as a scorer in this league. The Washington Wizards traded Kyle Koozma for Chris Middleton and AJ Johnson. That was just an absolute steal. Chris Middleton I actually think is even better than Kyle Kosma. Then when you add in they basically stole AJ Johnson from the Milwaukee Bucks. It’s like the cherry on top. But AJ Johnson, man, I think as a scorer in this league, he needs to put on some pounds, especially like on the defensive side of the ball. He gets picked on a lot, but as a scorer in this league, I think this guy is one of those players who could just get a bucket on anyone, and I think he’s going to be a very, very solid player in this league. Next up, we got Khan George. Kan George is one of the players who kind of went under the radar in his rookie season, but he showed a lot of promise, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Needs to work on that three ball a lot and needs to work on being a lot more efficient on the offensive side of the ball, but I think as a defender in this league, he could be one of the best of him.
