Jeremiah Fears on practice, goals for Summer League | 2025 NBA Summer League
What was this like today? Uh first day, right?
Yes, it was super dope. Uh got to meet a lot of my new teammates. Um we got out there today. We learned a lot of new concepts. Uh a lot of X and O’s and we just going to continue to keep working and we looking forward to our first game.
What are you trying to accomplish in this summer league? Like is there one thing you’re saying this is what I want to get done?
Yep. Uh we going to come out and set a statement. Um show everybody what what New Orleans Pelicans can bring. So every time we step on the court, we going to go out there, go hard, we going to play together, and we going to rack up some doubs. How a lot of your friends are just finishing high school, starting college, when you’re starting like a professional career. How important is it like the maturity aspect to understand that that you are now a professional athlete?
Man, super important. Um, it’s one of those things where you got to look back and kind of got to reminisce a little bit and uh just take it all in. I mean, it’s a it’s a great experience. It’s something that you dream of doing um all your life. Finally being able to be in this position is something that um every kid wants to achieve.
And Jeremiah, at that point, you say your team comes out with a statement. What’s the statement that you want to make, man? I’m going to come out um set a statement, uh show everybody what I’m capable of, continue to show my teammates what I can bring to the floor every time I step on the floor.
Yeah. But what have been your impression of Coach Brewer?
Man, super dope. Uh he’s one of those guys going to continue to push you, continue to um give you every piece of advice you got, and uh as a player, something I’m taking from him is just continue to pick his brain. He’s picking my brain, so I’m going continue to pick his brain and learn everything I can from him.
And and Brew also talked about, you know, putting the ball in your hand a lot. You kind of learn on the fly. how much you kind of looking forward to that just taking on that role as the the lead guy,
man. Uh I’m excited. Um a lot of coaches don’t give rookies opportunity to kind of go out there and show what they’re capable of. So him give giving me the ball and let me learn on the fly and make mistakes is going to be um something that I can take with me and something that I can learn from as well.
What are your early impressions of Derek Queen?
Man, super super skilled. Extremely skilled. um high IQ, can really do almost everything you need him to do, and he’s somebody that’s we going to need in these next couple games. So, we expect them to show up big time, and I’m going to continue to keep talking to him and pushing him and motivating him. And
what have been your early impressions of New Orleans? Man, it’s crazy. Uh food is food is really good out here. Very nice, very nice city. Um and I’m just enjoying the overall experience. You
gotten used to the heat?
Not yet. Um not yet, for sure. Um I’m trying to stay in the AC. I I don’t want to get too dark. So, I mean, it’s it’s dope, though.
Let me ask you this. Is it nice to be back playing basketball? You’re traveling around, meeting all these teams, doing all the draft stuff. Is it nice to finally say, I’m back to basketball now?
Yes. Um, a lot of workouts, a lot of stuff like that. But finally being able to get on the court and get out there and compete and kind of learn your new teammates is it’s something that you don’t take for granted. It’s something that I’m going to continue to keep enjoying.
How much does it help having Eve out there as a guy with a lot of experience last year coming in, being part of this team,
man? Um, it helps a lot. He’s been in my ear. He’s been giving me um little pieces of advice that he’s learned from the guys ahead of me and I’m listening. I’m learning as well. So, uh hopefully he’s continue to keep giving me the advice and hopefully our chemistry continues to build from there.
I’m sure you’ve kind of watched summer league before like just on TV. I mean, what what’s it kind of like just actually go get to be a part of it?
Man, it’s it’s something that you you dreamed of doing. I watched it all throughout my middle school and uh I went every year throughout my middle school and my freshman year high school. So, um, I kind of got to see it up close, see it in person, see what it was like, and now I’m about to be on the stage and I’m about to be playing.
Any memories from it that that stick out to you? Like,
um, any I kind of got to play in a little private private open my freshman year with a couple of those guys and that was that was super dope for me, just being able to go out there and compete against them and learn a little bit from them as well.
And you freshman you talking about last year? Freshman year high school.
Oh, okay. Have you Sorry, I forget your age sometimes. High school. Have you had anything food-wise that’s been unique like that that they served you and you thought, “Damn, I can’t believe I’m eating alligator or oysters or is it just all kind of been a block?”
Oysters. Oysters for sure. It was It was one of those things that I never had before and I I came down here and my first day down here, uh, they made me try it. It It wasn’t It wasn’t as bad as I thought.
