GREAT Off-Season So Far BUT the Spurs Need 3 Point Shooting!
Spurs fans, it’s been a pretty good off season. Dylan Harper, Carter Bryant, Luke Cornett. More work needs to be done because our shooting still kind of sucks. What is up, San Antonio Spurs fans? Welcome to CSR Sports. Hope your weekend has been fantastic. Summer League started last night and well, it was a rough game to watch, so hopefully tonight’s game against the Warriors will be better. Cheap plug alert, we’ll be live at 6:30 p.m. Eastern. Anyway, came across an article from Air Almo talking about some of the free agents we missed on. And it got me thinking about our three-point shooting. So, I’m going to get into that article and then I have a ton of questions at the end. So, let’s get into it. Following a few days of free agency mayhem, the signings have died down and the major free agents have found their new homes. Several teams made franchise altering moves. The Rockets are the first one that comes to mind that will signally impact their outlook for the 202526 season. Our Spurs did not one addition Luke Cornet on a four-year deal worth 41 million. They’re talking about the Kale Alexander Walker. How he’d been a great fit. I don’t think we could afforded him. So, I I’m kind of moving by that one. A player we could have afforded Gershon Yabuselli on the list of missed opportunities for Gershan Yagoselli is obviously the one I think that stands out the most for for all of us. The 68 stretch four would have been the perfect complent to the Spurs current foundation. Yabasili was an impressive shooter in the 24-25 season, finishing at 38% of his three-point attempts, only costing the New York Knicks 12 million over two seasons. That’s right, two years, 6 million a year. The Spurs could have easily brought him in and paired him back with his France national teammate. Yeah, I I’ll talk about that in just a few moments. There were a plethora of bench sharpshooters though that the Spurs could have brought in on a cheap deal. Among the groups are Tim Hardaway Jr., Luke Canard, and the greatest name in the NBA, Duncan Robinson. How has he not played for the Spurs yet? Seriously, all these guys can make it rain from deep and could have provided a significant beyond the arc spark for the Spurs off the bench. In the era of three-point importance, and I’m sorry it is, each of these players was heavily sought after on the free agent market. Despite that, the Spurs have at least attempted to snag one of them away for cheap. Who wouldn’t want to play next to a load of playmakers and future MVP Victor Webmanyama? Okay, I like that lessons. All right, so we could not have afforded one of those players they just mentioned based on their previous contracts and Luke Cornet. Our team needed a big bad and we checked off that box. The problem right now is the way the roster is constructed with our current salaries, the Spurs are very limited to who they could sign. That being said, seeing how cheap the dancing bear went for, that does hurt. If we could have found a way, maybe Cornet’s contracts a little smaller and tighter, and if we could have picked up L Cornet and Gershan Yabaselli this off season, that would have been an absolute A+ grand slam. No doubt about it. But it didn’t happen, which leaves a lot of questions. What’s our Spurs shooting moving to next season? I’m going to break up our stats from last season. And they’re not pretty. The top left I’m going with. Maybe that’s the starting lineup for next season, guys. I have no idea. WB and Fox are an absolute lock. Castle probably a lock after that. Soan, Barnes, Vel, Penny. I don’t know what kind of combination Mitch Johnson’s going to go with. I’m sure he doesn’t know yet as of this point either. There are some bad percentages there. There are some absolutely frighteningly bad percentages there. Dylan Harper’s stats, by the way, the 33% is from his last season at college. Canard was a stretch five when he came into the NBA. He took three three-pointers last year. There’s the zero. I think it was three. He’s not shooting threes anymore. I don’t think the Spurs are going to ask him to try. Let’s get to the part where I said there were a lot of questions that we have that need to be answered. First off, Stefon Castle and or Jeremy Sohan both approve on their three-point shooting to get it around league average. for Sohan, that would be a jump of around what, 4%. I think the league average is 35. He looks good. Uh what the shot that he’s been taking now, the hitch is gone. Can he be at least a respectable three-point shooter where defenders aren’t constantly sagging off of him and double teaming WBY or triple teaming WMY or clogging the paint for our cutters and slashers like Castle and Fox? Speaking of Castle, that would be a big jump. He was just under 29% this season. Can he get to 35? asking a 6% jump is big but not impossible. Castle is putting in some serious work right now. If you haven’t been following him, he’s working with the guard whisperer who I’ve talked about on the channel that helped train SGA and numerous other guards. He’s also been playing in the summer league, not the games, but he’s been working out with the team and apparently going full full on 100%. I have faith that he will improve a three-point shot. I think Jeremy will too. The question is just how much. If Germany goes from 31 to 32% and Castle jumps from 29 to 30, they’re going to be left open whenever they’re on the floor and that’s just not going to work. How about Darren Fox with the Spurs in seven 17 games I think he played. He was sub 30% but I went with his year stat because that felt more appropriate. That’s the entire sample size for the year. He was only 31% last year, but he has shot 37% before with the Kings. Can he be a 37% guy again? Not great. But that’s above league average. And there’s a lot of cans and ifs here. By the way, Dell 37% respectable. However, I don’t think that’s playing up to his contract. You’re getting paid 27 million next season. We need you to be a 40% plus guy. We’ve seen you do it. You’ve been very consistent. You’ve had injuries, but I know you have it in you. If we want the best out of this team, he needs to be that 40% guy. Speaking of 40%, right below Demisel, Kell Johnson. I was looking at Kell stats and I forgot in his third season Kellan shot just right around 40%. I think it was like 398 just a hair under 40%. And that was not on a limited sample size in his third season. That was over five three-pointers a game. Can he recover his three-point shot? Because it was gone last season which I think definitely hurt the team. Can he get back to that or close to it? Can he get 37 or 38%? We know he has it in him. If he can do that, that’s going to help significantly off the bench. And then we have a rookie, Carter Bryant. Could he develop way ahead of schedule? And guys, let’s stop with the he sucks. He’s a bust already. It was one game last night. Jeez, we saw the same thing with WHMY two years ago. Give him a chance. Yes, that game was ugly last night. It was tough to watch on both sides. The offenses looked terrible. The refs were whistling everything. I did not enjoy watching that basketball last night. I enjoyed hanging out with you guys, but watching the game, it was a wreck. But Carter Bryant showed some potential. Showed some really, really nice form with his shots. Just, you know, he was off probably, you know, some first game jitters. Was a foul machine. He’s going to have to work on that and I’m sure he will. Then last but not least, my brother from another mother, Riley Min. Can he kill it in summer league when he’s eventually playing? Can he do well in the preseason? He was over 40% in GLeague last year. If he’s doing that again, could he make the roster and give us some much needed three-point shooting off the bench? I don’t know. But I know this if we see a repeat of these numbers next season is not going to give us the best Spurs team that it can be. We’re not going to lock maximum potential Wemby if you will. We’re not going to have the floor spacing we need for Wemby to be his best for Fox to be as best for Castle to be his best. Harper penetrating not going to be his best. It’s going to limit the team. It’s a three-point shooting league whether you like it or not guys. I know some of you say TSR I’m tired of hearing three-point shooting. It is what it is. And you look at our Spurs last five years that they’re ranked in the NBA 20. This is by percentage, 24, 18, 26, 28, and 20 last season. While I was looking at those stats, I couldn’t help notice below that there were a lot of ranked number ones in the NBA by the Spurs. From 2010 to 2018, our Spurs were ranked number one in three-point percentage five times. Five times. Five times. Five times. Five times. Five times. We had snipers on the team. And right now, we don’t really have any snipers. We got security guards. We need snipers. this team’s going to reach its maximum potential cuz there’s a lot of good players here that I think do I still say we said there’s a lot of potential that’s been untapped but it hasn’t come together yet because the team the last few years or really since the channel’s inception has been so damn inconsistent night in night out where you see a guy go five for seven for three one night and 0 for eight the next night and just lather rinse repeat that pattern for the rest of the season. It’s infuriating. It’s frustrating but I know they can do it. It’s just when will it come together? Next season? I hope so. I think it will. I think it will. A healthy Webby, an offseason with Webby and Fox. Johnson with an offseason to prepare to be a head coach with a good supporting coaching staff around him. I have a lot of faith in the team. And that’s all I got. So, there you go. That’s today’s video. Drop a comment down below. Did any of these stats surprise you that I dropped? Did you know the Spurs were first in three-point field goal percentage, five out of from 10 to 18? And a lot of years before that, they were number one. So, we weren’t exactly the highest value three-point shooting team, but they were efficient. That’s what we need back. We need the efficiency. I think defensively, we got some good parts to this team. We have building blocks. We have a legit big off the bench, but the shooting’s got to come together. Did they put the work in this off seasonason to make it make it happen? We’ll find out soon. Like, comment, subscribe, all that good stuff. Hope you’re having a good weekend. See you at 6:30 tonight for the Warriors. Thank you. And as always, go Spurs go.
The San Antonio Spurs have had a great off-season however the team still needs some solid 3 point shooters!

Maybe the Spurs can trade for a 3 point shooter? Thanks for watching and GO SPURS GO!
Vassell is gone…for a starting 3PT shooter who will have Barnes coming off the bench with Harper feeding him.
Trade for Trey Murphy?
Could be they are counting on Sochan and Castle's numbers to go up, and Fox gets back to league average. Risky, but if they do, it will pay off. THAT is what we actually need…a starting 5, none worse than league average, with an ace or 2 out there. We already know that is one big part of both Castle and Sochan's offseason work.
They will be ok then address the 3pt shoot the next year. It's a processes.
Trey Murphy III for vassell plus picks.
But nobody wanted Kon!!!! I don't wish the downfall on anybody but I will say this.I do believe that Kon will have a way.Better rookie season and I mean way better rookie season than Harper just because he's a better shooting now don't get me wrong. Kon He's gonna get a lot more playing time as well so it is what it is… But I do hope. That everybody gets the opportunity to tell me.I told you so instead of me saying it to you…
Will we find a Gary Neal on this year's SL team? Years ago when I saw him during the SL I knew we had found a guy to come off the bench and, sure enough, he made the big squad.
i think we missed out on so many cheap shooters because we couldn't promise them playtime. Minutes at PG, SG, and SF will be spread out between Fox, Castle, Harper, Vassell, KJ, Champ, & Bryant. Barnes and Sochan could also see short stints at SF. We missed big time on Yabu. He signed for a little more then what we could offer with NY, but no income tax in Texas could have made up for most of the difference. I don't think we seriously pursued him. Kinda mad that we also missed on Landale. He signed for the minimum and could have helped bring more size and hustle while putting another big who can shoot 3s in the rotation. I doubt we do anything else until summer league is over. They might be hoping one or two summer league players show out to fill out the roster. Maybe we are saving the rest of the MLE and the BAE for pre season roster cuts or even trying to be forward thinking and save for the trade deadline and late season cuts for a deep playoff push. IDK im just trying convince myself we have other plans for why they wasn't very aggressive this free agency lol.
I think we need good overall players that can shoot. Not much point from Mcdermott like players who are elite from 3pt but unplayable otherwise. So unpopular as is I would like to trade DV and KJ for Lauri. He stretches the floor and is big, at the position we need.
Still got two roster spots available bring in Garrison Matthew’s
If only they can find a great 3-and-D player or someone on the roster becomes one.
The Rookie's Must Play Better In Next Summer League Game! Go Spurs! Go 🏀👍
We should calm down.
I believe we will see some big improvememt from some of our players. Castle and Sochan put the work during this of season qnd Fox will be playing with an healthy shooting hand. Also, Wemby will come back with Buddha's enlightment.
Just swap Vassel and some picks for a sharpshooter and we will be fine 😅
Can Ricky Lombardo and Ron Jambo shoot the three ball if not Spurs can sign me I can hit triples
Who is Penny? Champagne ??
Wait, which Kennard is on our roster?
its proof again this season coming up-the spurs still ain't serious about winning #1 vassell and kj are still on team #2 needed shooters they passed on #3 Brian Wright has been Wrong!! its time for spurs fans to get their heads out their 🍑s and wake up its another tanking season for a good draft position
Trade for me, DawgShiii
Even the 2017 warriors needed more shooting.
If wishes were horses we would all be riding. You cannot have everything. Personally I am happy with the Kornet signing. Back up big was our most pressing need and we got a good one.
3:07 Kornet =/= Kennard
Kornet is the one Spurs took in FA
Kennard is a career 43.8% 3P shooter (and as bad on D as Evin Vassell)
Both are named Luke, but everything else is totally different.
If Sochan is shooting 3s then Kornet should as well.
The draft is a great success for the Spurs.
The free agency is not bad at all with the addition of Luke Kornet. The second unit has suffered not having a real rim protector last two seasons. This won't be the case anymore.
The Spurs's organization seems not to be in hurry to fill in the roster (two available spots).
I am pretty sure that some trades will occur this summer and the Spurs could use their cap space under the luxury tax to bring some vets and/or some assets.
The current roster should make very easily the playin. And depending on the performances of Wemby, the 6th seed of the western conference is not impossible to reach.
Our 2026 roster seems better than the 2025 Rockets' one. They managed to reach the 2nd seed !! Why not us ?
With the current roster, my prediction is between 48 and 52 wins.
32/20 against the western conference (versus 22/30 last year)
20/10 against the eastern conference (versus 12/18 last year)
Last year, 52 wins was the 2nd seed but 48 wins was the playin (7th/8th).
The Spurs should be definitely better than the Jazz, the Pels, the Suns, the Kings and the Trailblazers. They should now be better than 4 other teams to reach the 6th seed.
Not so great free agency so far, ony backup center signing, most of the best free agents already found new teams. Spurs will be bad for 3 again next season fighting for play in position.
Attack the f*cking basket
Branham should be able to at least shoot
Need to find a way to trade Sochan & Keldon + picks to Sacramento for Keegan Murray. I know everyone loves Sochan, but Keegan is Sochan w/ a jumper. He’s already a good shooter. He’s also a good team guy. Good defender. He’s more durable & a better rebounder.
We need 3pt shooting, we need a big man, we need consistency, we need maturity……… we need many things but we won't get quickly unless we're trading for some very special players which isn't happening easily. Ppls has underrated Harrison Barnes , he is the #1 corner 3 guy in the league and he's doing all dirty jobs, we have to keep him in starting, so all we hope is our squad grow up and learn to shoot better up to around 36-38% of 3pts%, especially Castle, Bryant and Harper. I don't think we need Sochan to shoot much but he has to be more aggressive and energic in rebound and Jam. He has to be our energy booster which has to target himself as a paint double double no matter starts or bench player, if he can't shoot well, just go another path to contribute but not forcing bad shots.
Spurs still need a front court starter bigger than Sochan or Barnes for crying out loud. Otherwise Wemby will be off to the Knicks himself when KAT goes. He would pair perfectly with Mitch Robinson. I'm a 30 plus year die hard Spurs fan but I honestly would be happy if he did that. Spurs need to wake the F up.
I hear ya but Okc won the championship without good shooting so I think it can be done
I'm still hurt about Yabusele!
Sochan, vassell, keldon, i think they have to go, their threes won't improve unless there's some miracle. Look at the 2014 spurs team, boris diaw can shoot the three, But players like sochan can't shoot.
Honestly theres not enough threes to go around you have penny, barnes, wemby, fox even been letting it fly. I dont see another shooter necessary but another solid big to grab rebounds.
What are the spurs doing with Maliki braham and Blake Wesley, they don't really let them get any minutes, they drafted them in the first round like 3 years ago,if you don't let them get any minutes then they can't really develop or advertise for a trade,so wtf are the spurs doing,I think our gm sucks, why would he keep these 2 and the 2nd round pick last year but trade the 8th we could of took Zach edey, kel ware , buzzelis last year, our gm is an idiot he doesn't get credit for the castle, wemby or Harper picks because those were picks any gm would make
The Spurs are not in need of plugging every hole right now, many players on the roster still need to develop. They still have time to be picky with what they want even though many of the fans are getting impatient. Kennard and Robinson are great 3pt shooters but are liabilities on defense, the Spurs probably want 3pt shooting plus more rounded skillset. Trey Murphy is the type of player the Spurs probably want but they will not break the bank to get him IMO. Murphy is also coming off shoulder surgery and if I'm the Spurs I would want to see how long before he returns to pre injury form. Riley Minix had similar injury to non-shooting shoulder in January and is just starting to scrimmage, Murphy injured in March to shooting shoulder which had more extensive damage. He may be out for a good part of the season.
I hope I'm wrong but I thought vj edgcome might of been a better pic then Harper, because the spurs really don't have any super freaky athletic guards
I think cooper flag is way over hyped, can someone tell me what he can do that buzzelis can't,I think he'll be a good player, but I don't understand the hype as if cooper will be the best player in the world, and he will definitely not be the best player in the draft
Or just don't shoot the dam 3 lol 12/35+ from 3 every game frustrates the hell outta me. Then losing by 5pts or less???!!!! Ugggghh put me in coach!!!
I thinks Spurs are fine now. Gotta have faith with Vassel. Wemby has been taking so many threes. It's gonna be expensive for spurs next year with Fox and Sochan
Bring back Doug Mcbucket
Signing Kornet was more important than a pure shooter right now. It would be insane to sign a shooting specialist to a long-term contract before the Spurs see what they have with Bryant and Harper, and what improvements Castle, Sochan, and Wembanyama have made since last season. And that's even before taking into account the possibility that Ingram or Mimic might be ready to step up from Austin.
Signing a specialist to a one-year contract (with a 2nd year team option) giving the Spurs maximum flexibility going forward would be reasonable, especially if it gives minutes to the young players San Antonio hopes to develop into good shooters.
