SOME FILIPINOS DON’T WANT KEVIN QUIAMBAO TO SUCCEED IN THE NBA SUMMER LEAGUE? KQ JOURNEY TO SACTOWN!
On July 2nd, 2025, Kevin Kiama officially began his NBA journey, arguably the most important chapter of his young career. He flew to the US with one goal, to earn a spot on the Sacramento Kings NBA summer league roster. His journey has created major buzz across the Filipino basketball community. Ever since landing in Sacramento, fans have been closely tracking his progress. Kevin is currently undergoing workouts and training sessions with Gilles legend and Sacramento Kings player development coach Jimmy Alipag. Footage from his workouts has started to circulate and fans are speculating, can he make the roster? However, several fake posts on Facebook about his situation have caused confusion. As a result, Kevin announced on his IG story that he would stop posting updates due to the spread of misinformation. On social media, fans have voiced their opinions. While many support him, others remain skeptical. One comment read, “To be honest, not NBA caliber. Let’s be real. There’s no pure Filipino NBA talent yet.” Though most comments are just opinions and some are constructive criticism, it raises the question, is Kevin Kambbo’s talent and skill enough to reach the biggest stage for NBA aspirants? [Applause] [Music] Over the past few weeks, we’ve been covering Kevin’s games in the Marikina Intergroup Basketball League, MIGBL, an open tournament that showcases talent from all levels. Instead of doing private runs for his preparations, Kevin loves to play in settings called Ligang Labas. He’s been playing in these kinds of tournaments for years to hone his skills. [Music] Though he does one-on-one workouts with his coaches to stay in shape, KQ just likes playing with crowds like this in attendance. As expected, every KQ game in the MIGBL was a blockbuster. The Marikina Sports Complex fills up and the crowd grows every week. [Applause] The team Cash Prince, which Kevin plays for, is not just a squad. It’s a super team. Some of Kevin’s teammates are former PBA and Helas Filipinos players like Keeper Raa, Mark Pingris, and the highf flyierly Renzabando, which also draws crowd attention to watch the games live in the arena. After his rookie season in the KBL, these are the most competitive games Kevin has played in and are considered part of his preparation for his NBA summer league stint. [Music] [Music] Though some might think this is just exhibition games because one of Kevin’s teammates is internet comedian and online personality Joel Ravena, also known as Malupaton, who entertains the crowd most of the time. The games here are truly competitive. I mean really competitive. Most of the time you can see Kevin shooting three-pointers and making plays. [Music] For those who follow Kevin’s game, he is considered a very versatile big man who can handle the ball, combining elite playmaking, sharp basketball IQ, and scoring ability from anywhere on the court. Best described as a point forward. In this tournament, he showed he can score from the post, mid-range, and beyond the ark, making him a matchup nightmare. [Applause] He was effective with pull-up threes, pump fakes into drives, and creative finishes around the rim. Every game, Kevin battled taller foreign players who defended him, making this setting a great simulation for how he can perform in the summer league. In the Korean Basketball League, Kiamao quickly adapted, showcasing his versatility and scoring prowess. One notable game saw him post a career-high 36 points, including six three-pointers, while also contributing double-digit rebounds, assists, and blocks, demonstrating his continued Mr. All-around guy reputation. He often initiated plays, showing exceptional court vision and passing skills rarely seen in big men, drawing frequent comparisons to NBA MVP Nicola Joic. On the other hand, he occasionally struggles against smaller, quicker defenders, but continues to improve his agility and conditioning to address this. He finished the season averaging 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.3 steals, showcasing his ability to contribute across multiple statistical categories. KQ’s NBA summer league playbook is no secret. He just needs to play his game. And with the guidance of coach Jimmy Alipag, he can make important adjustments to keep up with the workouts in Sacramento. His ability to impact games as both a scorer and facilitator along with his adaptability on defense and international experience cementss his reputation as one of the most dynamic and complete players in Filipino basketball today. According to an NBA report, the Sacramento Kings value floor spacing and ball movement. KQ’s ability to hit outside shots and make quick decisions fits well with their offensive philosophy. His understanding of the game and unselfishness can help him quickly adapt to the king’s system and stand out among other prospects. If he will be given a chance to perform in the summer league, Kevin Kimau’s versatility allows him to make an immediate impact by filling multiple roles as a scorer, facilitator, and defender, making him a valuable asset in the fast-paced, high-stakes environment. His all-around game and adaptability give him a strong chance to impress NBA scouts and coaches, potentially earning a training camp invite or two-way contract. Kaisoto and Kevin Kiama are one of the few full-blooded Filipinos reaching this stage. Coach Alipag’s presence brings added attention and support for KQ, fueling his motivation to perform at his best. [Music] Kevin also thrived in clutch moments throughout his collegiate career, often taking over games in the fourth quarter with both scoring and playmaking to lead his team to crucial victories. [Applause] In his last performance in the MIGBL, KQ was on fire from three-point range, making seven triples and two clutch shots down the stretch. This game went viral all over Facebook because for the first time, three Gilas Filipinas players teamed up for this kind of tournament. KQ together with Kefir Ravena and Ren Zabando did not disappoint the crowd. [Applause] Right from the start, the game was something to watch. Highlight plays after highlight plays. The arena was electric and the real winners were the Panoy basketball fans who only paid 20 pesos to watch these amazing players live. A [Applause] [Music] air abondo. was taking flight, making multiple dunks that hype up the crowd. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] One special moment was when Kevin made an alley pass to a Bondo slam that brought the house down. [Applause] Keeper Ravena also did damage from the perimeter and made smart plays for team Cash. [Music] But what made this game even more interesting was that their opponents were not backing down. Team Big Z Burgers made a comeback in the fourth quarter, forcing both teams to go head-to-head for the win. In one play, the arena went silent when KQ was dunked on by Daryl Mayweather, an import player who was also Kevin’s matchup in this game. With less than 1 minute to go in regulation, Clutch KQ showed up with a big shot. [Applause] They traded buckets until Big Z’s point guard Sid Castillo drained a clutch halfcourt shot to send the game to overtime. The crowd was stunned and you could really feel the intensity and competitive drive from both teams. In overtime, both teams continue trading buckets, keeping the score close. [Applause] Kevin got his revenge on Mayweather with a clutch basket that edged the game. [Applause] As mentioned, this was the last competitive game Kevin played before he flew in the US. [Music] outside [Music] [Music] from humble beginnings in Mont Lupa dribbling through bario courts under the guidance of his father and grandfather. Kevin Kiama dreamed big. He rose through the ranks dominating high school as a UAP Rookie of the Year, twice, earning back-to-back MVP honors in seasons 86 and 87 and leading Deasal to a UAP championship. He has faced the skeptics, those who whisper that he’ll never make it, those who wish for his dreams to falter. But they don’t know what fuels him. His journey, his sweat, his nights and days poured into chasing a ball and chasing a dream. They belong to him alone. They can never be taken away. And to the doubter who wants Kevin to fail, his journey and hard work will never be taken from him. [Music] We ran all his highlights and recapped his KBL campaign. Now, let us know in the comments. KQ GINULAT ANG MUNDO😂
Lahat nman siguro gusto maging nba c kevin ang problema lng pano hndi nman cia p draf
I think the hate comes from KQ suddenly being an ass in his UAAP stint when it was DLSU's time to shine in Season 86.
Pinoy player main problem vs international league that gilas program of tab balwin /japan b league standard ht according skill that why last fiba cup most successful asia team japan former gilas player is fit in fiba while majority pba players walking mismatch.
Ex
Tamayo Baltasar they big converted to be guard in international that standard ht for guards.
Ex
Parks paras never develop point guard skills
Biggest failure😂 development kai sotto highly skill big why softy bigman never develop mentality dominate they never address his weakness they like get cash in early buzz he paid 11 million play gilas
Imagine if Pingris and calvin or scottie Thompson is 7feet tall he be better nba prospect he play intensity even he fail make mistakes due lack skills as fan you never disappointed why see play give all 110 % effort
KQ offence is easy but main def side role players majority play good/avg role player def hustle its possible
Kevin Quiambao is not listed on the roster for the Sacramento Kings Summer League Squad…did not make summer league and may be sent to the Stockton Kings for development.
Kai, KQ and Rhenz can be improved in G-league and somehow catch an NBA contract. They just need some support to gain that confidence because they can play high level basketball. Laban lang! 🫡❤️👌
nba don't want pure blooded Filipino to succeed in the nba, that is the fact.
Hahaha z kai nga hindi nka pasok sa nba, z kq pa kaya,
