What if the Lakers TRADE LeBron James?
The worst kept secret in the NBA right now is that it low-key makes a lot of sense for the Lakers to trade LeBron, both for him and their own future. So, even though I don’t think it’s actually going to happen, here are three ideas. How funny would it be if Nico Harrison called up Rob Pelink and was like, “Hey man, I got an idea.” Because yeah, this team would be sick. The problem is the Mavs would have to gut half their roster just to match the salary. Which is why I don’t think this actually makes sense. A popular rumor, of course, is LeBron to the Cavs because, yeah, obviously finishing his career in Cleveland would be story book, but also give him a legit shot at a title. The problem is the Cavs are a second apron team, so they can’t aggregate salaries. So, I think they’d first have to trade Darius Garland to a third team, maybe like the Kings, and the Lakers end up with Jared Allen, Malik Monk, and like another salary. But that’s a lot to give up for the Cavs. Which is why the only deal I see potentially on the table that makes sense for everybody is LeBron to the Big Apple for OG Anobi and Mitchell Robinson. Who says no?

None of these teams will trade young players on a good contract for a 40 year old who could retire at any time. A buyout is much more likely than a trade.
