Miami Heat Fall To Lakers | Kasparas Jakučionis Struggles Again | Is Kel’el Ware Showing Enough?
Welcome on in guys. Toby here with you and thanks for checking out the channel. Hope you’re doing well out there. If you guys could subscribe, that’d be great and appreciate you stopping by. Just got done watching Miami Heat summer league as they got waxed by the Lakers today 103 to 83. And uh for notes going into this one, no Pella Larson in this game, no Keshot Johnson in this game. Uh no Kyra Lewis Jr. in this game. They also did not play Vlad Golden either. So definitely a game where coach Glass was trying to get uh more guys some minutes and some time. Uh but we did get another significant chunk from Kell Wear and uh we got another struggle city game from a first round pick Casperus Yakonas. So, let’s start there because everybody uh um I think was probably tuning into this game to see what Cass had to bring to the table today and he got his game started off on a on a rough note with Bronny James picking his pocket and getting a transition slam. Um Yakonas today again uh a day where he did not convert a field goal. He was 0 for three, all of them three-point attempts. Um he did get to the free throw line late. He played in garbage time in the fourth quarter which was a little bit strange. Five turnovers today, four points. Um two assists, three steals. Uh does I mean listen does hustle his ass off. Like I’m not going to sit here and be like, “Hey, there’s a lot of great stuff to go here with with Yakonis.” I understand all the fans frustration just because the fans are just in general frustrated. But like, dude, come on. They’ve been together for four days. He’s 19 years old. You got a bunch of guys who are trying to scrap and make the league. This guy has a guaranteed contract. I don’t know if that’s necessarily a recipe to get everybody set up, especially right off the bat. Perhaps while you’re together for two, three weeks in Las Vegas. Everybody knows summer league doesn’t really start to Las Vegas anyway, okay? The California games, you throw them out the window. And if you would have gone back and looked at I remember you know I was doing a radio show and we were talking about uh Nicola Yovic and I mean Yovic dude I mean he he had himself some some some league stinkers. So I am not worried about Caspers Yakonis stinking up the joint not having a very impressive summer league thus far. It is very early. I know nobody wants to hear that, but like look, to be honest with you, it wasn’t even the thing I came out of today’s game the most concerned with. And I might sound like I’m a bit of a worry ward here, but I want to talk about Kawwar for a second. I want to talk about KL Wear because as much as we can harp on Casper Yakonis and everyone’s going to think that, uh, Coach Glass doesn’t know what he do. Get Gam Damasakio in there. You you you give put the ball in his hands. You do you don’t know what you’re doing. Guys, I I mean, like, look, I get the frustration with the Miami Heat. We’re really going to go on this note with the Heat as far as developing players. It’s kind of their best thing they’re doing right now. Catching whales, big trades, free agency, all all viable complaints. Developing youth right now. That’s what we’re going to do with the Miami Heat. Like, they kind of know what they’re doing there. And yeah, he hasn’t had a good couple of games. Um, but that’s okay. I I I think it’s it’s summer league. It’s not even the real summer league. It’s like the pre-summer league and they’ve literally known each other for days. And you know, there’s going to be, why isn’t he running the point? Why isn’t he getting the ball? Why is he only playing 20 minutes? Hey, if we get to the middle of Vegas and this is still a problem, okay, we can maybe sound the alarms a little bit, I guess. Um, but to me, he just he looks like for the times, for the frames that he’s had there to have the ball, he looks like he’s playing a little tight. The shot looks a little tight. The decision-m looks a little tight. He’s playing a little hot potato. He tried a cool little bounce pass today that had just had a little too much English on it. like he just looks like he’s playing a little tight and maybe he’s given up the ball a little bit and he’s gotten his cookies taken and you know LeBron James can kind of gave him the business today and and so this shows you um that there’s there’s there’s still some ways to go for the uh for the young lad but also it’s game two. We got to we got to we got to chill out a little bit. I will say though, I want to I want to talk about this and maybe I sound like a lunatic here because if you if you watch this game on Twitter, he had maybe two of the coolest highlights of this game because this was a game that wasn’t very exciting for a Heat fan. I mean, you were basically dominated today by Cole Schwider. Nobody wants to see that. All respect to Cole. Hope he has a great career. He’s 26 playing summer league games. Somebody give this guy a chance. But um some of this stuff is hard for me to tell because I think that they’re trying some things with Kell. Like I I definitely think that like defensively like you could see that they got him out on the perimeter a little bit more. There was a time where they had him with Dane Danger in the second half where um you know like essentially K was the power forward it looked like and they had Danger in the paint. But there’s just one thing that really stands out to me. It’s not even that Kell hasn’t had a great field goal percentage the first couple of games cuz he is shooting a lot of threes. Like he’s getting up four attempts a game these first couple of games and the one that he had today was sick. I mean you guys could go check it out. But like he does like this, you know, this this dribble turnound three ball. I was like And then he probably had the dunk of the game. I know you’ll probably see Bronnie James’ dunk left and right non-stop tomorrow on ESPN, but Kel Wear put Buddy on a poster. It was a nasty setup. And the other thing that’s interesting about this, I’m confused a little bit about um him because it looked like offensively things weren’t going necessarily the way they were defensively. But Kell Wear today finished with three rebounds in 28 minutes. And it was interesting. This is interesting to me just because coach Glass came came into this and he’s said this twice now where like they want to show he’s the real deal. Yesterday he’s telling reporters um that he wants him to dominate and I can’t say that Kell’s dominated. Now yesterday’s game he definitely likeoop cranked up the intensity and you had a different guy in the fourth quarter kind of take that puppy home than you did in this game. But in this one, you know, there was like one where he he has a lazy inbound pass and then he has to end up like trying to block the shot. It gets called for a goalend. And I just know if Udonis Hasslam saw that three rebounds in 28 minutes at and being the tallest, most athletic guy on the court, I think that Udonis Hasslam would vomit in a bag if he saw that. I think that would make him sick to his stomach. So, to me, that’s that to me almost stood out more than the Yakona struggles because it’s like, all right, a 19-year-old struggling a basketball to start this thing off. Me, no bigs. I’m not I’m not sweating that yet. So, yeah, Kell coming away with three boards today. You know, Javvante Cook, Myron Gardner having more rebounds than he did. Dane Dana having as many rebounds in 16 minutes as he did. No offensive rebounds for Kel Wear. You know, a little more little more body. I would like a little more on that when we’re talking about I get it. You know, you’re playing second night of a back to you’re playing second back to back. The fact that he is playing is impressive. And then the other thing that was but there so there was that. Now on the other side of it there was some things that were interesting with Kell particularly he did have the one re there was one rebound that sticks out in your mind because it set up one of his alleyoops where he gets it and like Yoic goes and I’m trying to remember who the I want to say was it Gardner who set him up or maybe it was Cook that set him up for this big guy. I was like whoa. It was Cook and No, which one was it? It was Marcus Williams. He uh Yeah, he like he gets the rebound, runs the floor, then finds his guard, he gets Marcus Williams the ball. Marcus Williams sets him up for a sick lob. And the I will say in the first half of this game particularly you can have an argument the summer league heat of guys they’ve been around for four days throw better lobbs to Kell wear than the actual Miami Heat other than Yovic dude. Um just food for thought there. That was something that that stood out. Um it got uh it got it was not as good in the second half with that, but the Heat in this one. They got on like a little run to try and bring themselves back, but uh it it uh it did not keep up. It did not keep up in this one. And so yeah, to me that was just like it it’s not something I’m I’m I’m bitching about, don’t get me wrong. Like Kell did some really awesome stuff out there. Um, but I but it’s it stands out like you’re just like, you know, and so I think he’s picking it feels like he’s picking his spots. Like I definitely feel like when you watch him, it kind of feels like a men amongst boys as far as talent’s concerned. Like he’s probably too good to be doing this. Um, but also I don’t necessarily know if he’s gone. I I feel like, you know, the Heat do things that are kind of a test and I don’t necessarily know if Kell is playing full throttle domination that they’re looking for. So, I’m curious about that. I don’t know. I haven’t listened. I’m sure they’ll put up Coach Glass’s presser after this one and and what they’re trying to get because there he’s definitely trying some different stuff. So, like you can’t take all of it for, oh, this is the regular season cuz they’re putting him in different positions. He’s trying some like small ball stuff. Um, he’s doing stuff you don’t see in the regular season. It’s just I was like, man, when I saw that number, I was like, “Yeah, and that kind of feels right.” It didn’t feel like he really dominated on that uh in that regard either. And he didn’t have like the defensive game, but look, he did, credit to him, play in the back games. He played a hefty amount of minutes. So, there’s that. As far as anybody else who really stepped uh up and and showed out, Myron Gardner had a good game. He had 14 points. Um Bryson Warren kind of made me sad that they gave him Duncan Robinson’s number. Like, the body’s not even cold yet. And he’s wearing number 55, but he is uh he’s probably been about as steady as it gets. He led the team in scoring today with 18 points. Um, again, no Pella, no Keshad. So, there was there was definitely some opportunities and I think that’s probably where people’s frustration goes with uh Casper’s not balling out the way that he did. Um, should mention on the other side of this thing, Dalton Connect because he has been mentioned in some heat rumors in regards to the Andrew Wiggins deal that he could be a little sweetener. um I think he’s 0 for nine to start the summer league. So he’s a and he’s a secondy year player and he’s a he’s 24 um and their first round pick last year. Remember those two weeks where everybody said that he were idiots for passing on Galawa for him. But uh he was two for seven, four points. Uh yeah, nothing to write home about. And I think if you’re the Heat and you’re watching this and you’re like, hey, if you guys want Andrew Wiggins, you probably are going to have to par with that first round pick because I don’t think this is enough. I don’t think he’s enough for the Heat to part with. Um, you could probably come out of this game and the Heat might be more interested in trading for Bronnie James than they were Dalton Connect because Bronnie played a pretty good game. Um, did a good job on Casper, the Heat’s first round pick. 10 points in 10 minutes today. Uh, hit a couple shots from downtown. I don’t know why he only played 10 minutes. I think he’s dealing with something. That seems a little strange cuz he was playing really well. That game was in control. So, I don’t know what the deal was there, but that that certainly stood out. Um, and yeah, Cole Sweder, king of the summer league, dude. That that was uh that was not supposed the Heat, I believe, are off now until Tuesday, and I think that is the Warriors. I think that’s their last game in the California Classic. But, uh, all in all, I get it. This was this was kind of a a twoman story. Casperis uh has not um has not really found his footing yet. And Kel Wear still a highlight reel machine rebounds to me a little just a little more. Kell still my favorite Kryptonian. All right. This is by this is by no means a call out. This is by no means worried. This is not on me questioning his just I just know if if that was if you fax that box score to Udonis Hlam and he saw was what didn’t he say a rebound every three minutes? Isn’t that what he called for? Well, I don’t think that math is math. Three rebounds in 28 minutes. I feel like Udonis Hamm vomits in a bag when he sees that box score. So that’s it. But that’s literally like that’s my only complaint is is is from him. Everything else, you know, I get it. People are freaking out. They think that Yakonis is a bust even though he was picked at 20. Um, but it’s early, dude. It’s it’s early. And as they say on Love Islands, it’s early days, love. It’s early days.
Tobin recaps the Miami Heat Summer League loss to the Lakers. Kasparas Jakučionis slow stuggled for the 2nd straight game. Kel’el Ware had some sick highlight plays but is 3 rebounds in 28 minutes enough domination for the Heat’s starting center or is it Summer League who cares??? Plus better sweetner for Andrew Wiggins deal? Bronny James or Dalton Knecht?

Not getting too high or low on anything that happens in summer league
Lol uh oh i thought he was the steal of the draft. Heat fans better get ready for a crappy season its coming smh
Getting beaten by 20. The offense need a change
This is the guy heat fans was saying he was untouchable? Heat fans just shut up
Remember Ben Simmons and was dubbed the "next Lebron" had an incredible summer league and look at him now….The kid is 19, and point guards are notorious for taking long to develop.. to come in at that age and be able to run an NBA offense is extremely hard..Many great PG take years to develop
Bro cant even dribble 🤣 😂 🤣
Kel El should not be playing in the Summer league he should be preparing for the regular season!!. Kel El dominates the Summer league??? OK WHO CARES?!?!How does that help The Heat this season??? Nobody else on the league will care id he dominates the summer league.
There is a reason why he fell to 20th. Borderline handles and too slow for the NBA.
The thing I took away from this game is Kel’el was awful, there was no good offense, & he still scored 12pts & these games are only 40 minutes. Heat fans need to stop being so brainwashed with defense.
UD is gone, Bam is the Captain now. This team is soft. It’s a new chapter. Lean into youth & offense.
If the Heat shits the bed this year and this rookie is trash Riley doing his pointing right after the draft pick will be the next big meme on Heat twitter.
Now it makes sense why all those teams passed on him
He’s known this team for 5 days and is being thrown into all this at once KJ needs time to settle in see how he looks towards the end
What do you think about the prospect of adding Beal 4.0
Knect, yeah, no…
We gonna be horrible this season
we made a huge mistake on this Draft, should have taken a PF or SF
Should have been the Suns pick
Danny Wolf 😢
Kevin Durant averaged 27,6,6 last season😏
Maybe Ke'lel is pissed he's not a Phoenix Sun🤷♂️
People expecting too much from late first round draft picks.
Kasper the Ghost nowhere to be found. He doesn’t even look like an undrafted player.
I remember thinking Trae young was gonna be a bust during summer league. From now till October things will change. He’s playing with other guys that want the spotlight. How many practices has he done?? He hasn’t played competitively since march. Give it time. By Christmas we’ll know what he’s about
Ware would be good anywhere he was drafted. Jovic had a chance as well. These are big players with unique skills. Kaspar ain’t it bro. You cannot be a slow pg in this league. And if you can’t play defense you better be able to light it up on offense.
Don't you think playing KJ at the off guard position is influencing the bad play?
Ware should be dominating, and he is ball watching instead.
I hope Kasper grows but we really should have picked Nique Clifford . Like wth
FIRE FARTON 😊
Heat better be coaching their players to have low post moves cause they can't space to save their lives.
BRUNSON SUMMER LEAGUE NUMBER WAS 6 PPG, 2 AST, 3 R ….. 😊
There was a reason why no 1 drafted KJ. Because he sucks
Ware looks half dead out there. He looks too passive man.
Miami got robbed in the draft…lol front office swirling
This is why I don’t understand the young movement, to many guys in limbo not really ready to contribute for this team in the next 3 years.
Kasparas might be the first heat rookie we dont label as untouchable in trade talks lol
Ware is going through the reps. He'll be fine, Tobin is too hard on him. Meanwhile jovic can do nothing wrong in Tobin's eyes
Riley must retire his 80 year old butt
No significant changes…run it back chumps
Gonna get the 16th Pick this year …get swept to boot again..
Bum city
Buy alot of baby oil heat …gonna get slammed and jammed
Wooo more d leaguer and undrafted lol mega pay d leaguers
Did we just draft the next Rozier?
For the record, I didn’t have him on my big board. I wanted Nique Clifford, Jase Richardson, Asa Newell, and Rasheer Fleming over him.
Bronny clamped Kasparas all the way up🥴🥴🥴
Lamelo Ball was terrible in summer league.
Great players don't have bad summer league
dainja and cooke were cooking. put kas in the gleague he is very indecisive
