How Auburn’s Chaney Johnson Landed with the Cleveland Cavaliers after going undrafted… #nbadraft
Shannie, let’s take it to draft night. I And I want you to paint the picture for me, right? That Thursday night, where are you? Who is who’s with you on this special night?
My Cavalier workout went real well, went so well that they end up calling me back for a second workout. And I heard around that they don’t really ever do that. So, obviously, my first one went good enough to where they’re like, “Let’s get a second look at them.” I always said I was going to be in the the gym when I got drafted. So, I was in the lab, you know, working out with my trainer. They told me I had a chance to go 58th, but you know, they end up drafting
Salu Niang.
I was a little bummed out, you know, but coming into it, I was telling everybody like I mean being drafted was the icing on the cake, you know, more so than anything. I was just happy to get workouts and being able to, you know, do so good at some of the workouts where they was interested in me, you know, coming to the summer league and playing for their team.
The news broke that Friday morning. What was that moment like when when you got the call from the Cavs? Like thank God after the first workout they already said I had a spot in their summer league team. So like I already knew you know that I was going to be able to play for them but it came down to playing for them or the Wizards and you know they showed a lot of interest in me. You know I love to play in Cleveland. So it was just like you know what to give me like let me go ahead and slide to Ohio. You know I was real happy praising God you know after the call. [Music]

Should’ve went to the Wizards. More opportunities especially being undrafted.
