Bobby Marks’ REACTION to Clippers, Jazz & Heat trade 👀 | NBA on ESPN

All right, happy Monday. Hopefully everyone is doing great out there. Uh I am home in my confines of my house and heading out to Las Vegas on uh Wednesday for summer league, a twoeek journey in Las Vegas/ Los Angeles. We are going to do a trade video. Uh certainly the it’s been a busy last couple weeks here and it culminated with the mortorium being lifted on Sunday and uh as Shams reported a three-teamer clips Heat and Jazz all interesting perspectives to look at it for each team here. So I figured we would do a video. We put out their uh offseason sheets last um uh last night earlier today. Uh we put out some teams yesterday uh with some of these official signings becoming official and also trades being finalized and they’re they’re going to keep on flowing through and we will keep you updated here. It it’s interesting from the perspective of Utah who trade John Collins. He’s on a $26.6 million contract expiring contract. He’s the last of the three. Uh Colin Ston got traded to Charlotte. Jordan Clarkson got bought out of his contract. certainly opening up the ability for their younger players. When you look at um whether it be Walker Kesler, whether you when you look at um Taylor Hendrickx, who’s going to be back from this injury, Ace Bailey, Cody Williams, Bryce Sensiba, uh your lineup certainly is a little bit of a mix of of the youth, right? If you’re looking at Kier George, Kyle Anderson who we’ll talk about in a minute, Larry Markin and then Walker Kesler, but there is a priority certainly to play the young players, Walter Clayton also, which is a guard uh with this group here. The semantics of it is Utah will create a monster trade exception. Uh if this is how they structure it, uh it will be $26.6 $6 million because remember you can use your signing exceptions to acquire players. When you look at Kyle Anderson will go into the non-taxment level exception which is 14.1 and uh Kevin Love will go into the bannual exception which is 5.1. Also the contracts for both players I’ll read real quick pull it up for you. U Kevin Loves in the last year of his contract $4.2 million. Uh Kyle Anderson is has two years left, 9.2 million and 9.6. The second year is non-g guaranteed. There’s protection at the um I think it’s June 30th, but June 29th through June 30th protection. I put it on one of my um my tweets and everything like that. Um so I do I totally get it from uh Utah’s perspective as far as why they went out and uh did a deal like this because it does open up this monster trade exception. you can go out and um do a signing trade perhaps maybe one of these restricted free agents that you like whether it be Kaminga or Grimes or Cam Thomas or Giddy I don’t think Giddy but it just opens up and gives you a lot of flexibility as far as what you’re able to do. One note on them um they have $146 million in salary. The salary cap’s 154. So you would think wait a minute they’re under the cap. Well, they’re not because when you look at the exceptions count against the salary cap, whether it be your non- tax, whether it be your bannual, or whether it be your trade exceptions, those count against the salary cap. So, that is a little bit of a perspective on um for Utah. Let’s work our way backwards. Miami, uh lowrisk move. Really like this move for Miami. Uh and I know people say, “Well, you got Tyler Hero already.” I thought Norm Pal prior to probably the all-star break uh was deserving to be an all-star uh played extremely at a high level. Had some injuries of course in the second half of the year. Um had some really good moments in the playoffs with uh with the Clips here. uh the the you know you’re giving up two players and and Kyle Anderson who was a rotational player and certainly has I don’t want to dim diminish his value and Kevin Love who is you know towards the tail end of his career and was not part of the rotation for a highlevel top starter. We put grades on each player and we tier them as far as you know franchise allstar all NBA. Norman Pal is a highle top starter. He’s on a $20.5 million um expiring contract. How the trade works is that Anderson and Kevin Love, so that’s $13 million and you bring back 20.5. It allows you to get um Uranus tier 2 from a trade mechanics. There is an $ 8.5 million buffer. So that certainly works with uh with within the rules of the uh of the CBA. You uh Norm is in last year’s contract. He’s extension eligible for the next six months. I think it was 3 for80 I put out there. It this trade does hard cap the clip uh the clips the heat at the first apron because remember you’re taking back more money in a deal. You are $4.2 million below the first apron. You were hardcapped 1.3 over tax. That doesn’t really mean anything. Remember the Tyler Hero bonuses count against the u against the apron. You have roughly $2.5 million in unlikely Tyler Hero bonuses. I really like this for Miami. Um, considering it’s it’s a lowrisk move. If they want to resign Pal to an extension, they can. If not, he becomes an unrestricted free agent. But he does provide a lot of value to what Miami is trying to do. And I love how people say, “Oh, there’s just going to be a six to8 seat.” Well, listen, the the Eastern Conference is wide open and this they are better. Miami is better today than they were yesterday. Okay, so that is it from Miami’s perspective. the Clips. Now, the Clips are going to be interesting here. So, um Powell goes out, Collins comes in, Clips get hardcapped at the first apron. They already hardcaped because they used the mo some of the non-tax mid-man level exception on U on Brook Lopez. They are certainly big. When you look at Lopez, Collins, um they pick Yannik Konitaer who will probably be spend time in San Diego with their G-League team. Certainly, uh, Big Z is there already. They have, now this is going to be the question. Do they have enough to go out and get Bradley Beal? You have 5.3 million of your non-tax mid-level exception. You certainly need some depth with your guards. When you look at Chris Dunn, Harden, Bdonovic, um, and, um, I was going to say Max Christie, Cam Christie. Uh certainly there’s a priority for depth with uh and be it depends on you know does Bradley Beal want to try to get recoup some of this money that he might lose in Phoenix by doing the buyout or is he willing to go play on a team that can maybe compete for a championship in the Western Conference. That’s going to be the question for Bradley Beal. We’ll do a video if it eventually happens with a buyout in Phoenix. Just kind of going through the ramifications here. They’ll create a uh a six millionish trade exception, expanded trade exception. 20.5 goes out, 26 and six point comes in, you can have that $8.5 million buffer. Uh I really like it for the Clips, too. I I I like the fact that basically kind of if you have another move up your sleeve, the Norm Powell move makes sense. Uh especially for a player that probably thought he was going to get an extension on the first day of free agency and that did not come to fruition. for a Clipper team that is loading up for the summer of 2026, they’re in they’re in prime position to go out there and um and and get uh a max player if he becomes available. I I think that’s going to be important when we look at um where the Clips are moving forward. You saw the Harding contract. There’s a partial guarantee of 13.3 million. There’s a partial in year two. Brooke came in at 875 and 875. There’s a team option in year uh year two. The Clips have $96 million in um guaranteed contracts. It’s a It’s an interesting dynamic as far we’re going to keep an eye on the Clippers when we as the season goes as far as what their plans are for next year. But that is it for a three-teamer Monday morning trade um trade video. We will talk soon. Hope everyone is great. [Music] [Applause] me with the heat. I’m on fire on [Applause]

  1. They must think they have someone else coming in. We will see. The Clippers always make skeptical moves . We just wanna be a pretender and we are allergic to the title runs!

  2. Miami will have a lot of contracts coming off the books after this year- They also have several trade exceptions to use as well

  3. Bobby could you do a short instructional video on the advantages and disadvantages of a buyout vs a waive-and-stretch and the cap implications of both moves?

  4. Norm was the best player in the trade but he showed in the playoffs he didnt fit w the starters all healthy & idt we could put him back on the bench it was time to move on.

  5. The money is weird, but it STILL doesn't make sense that the Clippers send out a pick to Utah instead of Miami.

  6. Long time Clippers fan here.. 30 years +.. not a big fan of this trade.. this is a really stupid trade from my clips.. if you wanted to save money, then u should of traded harden.. Powell delivered for us n harden was a no show.. Norman should be the one staying.. you better get not get Beal.. doesn't play defense.. I love Chris Paul but he is unfortunately older like I am.. stupid move..

  7. This moron is so all over the place I dont even know who is where now… Sexton and Collins got traded? Ok where?? Who did the Heat trade?? For what??

  8. Powell has made his name for coming off bench. Dk if he’ll have the same impact starting. I most certainly could be wrong! Plus, will he get open shots now that he doesn’t have Harden or Kawhi on his team? We will soon find out

  9. Clippers major weaknesses in 2024 was rebounding, size and ballhandling outside of Hardin. Bogi will play the 2. And Collins move KL to the 3. Great job Clippers. Powell great guy thanks for being a great Clipper 👍

  10. I get what the Clippers were doing with this move and I totally agree with opening up money for next summer, but I feel like they left some future value on the table in exchange for John Collins so they can pretend like they're still competing this year as well. I personally don't like when teams do this, although to be fair if you're going to do it I think the Clippers have one of the better rosters to do it with. Are they going all the way? No but they have a legitimate chance of winning a series or two if luck falls their way. Normally though I'm asking why this team is wasting a year pretending to be relevant when they could have instead found a contract some team was desperate to get off of and woulda given away a future first or young up and coming player. ..I guess the clippers now have harden, Bogdan, Kwahi, Collins, and Lopez with some depth to work with…. actually I think I'm okay with them doing this lol. Why not try to win some playoff money for the owner while simultaneously opening up a max slot next year… okay I take it back, good move for the clippers. Not sure how much longer the heat can pretend they're competing. They've been stuck in front office fifth gear for about 4 years now…

  11. It officially over for the Clippers in the west with this move Harden and Kawhi isn’t moving the needle with the Nuggets getting slightly better.Steve Balmer better start rebuilding now.
