Multiple Raptors TRADE and Free Agency Updates…

We have multiple very interesting Toronto Raptors trade updates to discuss. As while this team has a ton of young talent, they’re in a very interesting spot. Bobby Webster has to decide between who’s going to be getting rotation mids at that two guard position. The roster is fairly expensive, so you don’t want to be in that luxury tax areas. And now a Raptors insider has dropped very revealing details in terms of the Toronto Raptors trade plans, in terms of who’s expected to be in the upper echelon of the rotation entering this season, and who’s expected actually be on the roster given day one, even how many strong and talented guards this team currently has in the mix. So, we’re going to break down what’s going on with the Toronto Raptor plans in terms of trades, free agencies, and signings, and what we can expect in terms of some internal competition out on the wings for this Toronto Raptor group because frankly, there are a lot of people competing for actual minutes this upcoming season. So, lots of stuff to break down in this video. Before we do, folks, again, I want to thank everyone that’s been supporting the channel as of late and the 38,649 of us that are here in this Raptors Digest community. of folks. We are on that goal, on that mission to hit 40,000 subscribers very, very soon. So, make sure you guys hit that sub button if you’re enjoying the daily Toronto Raptors coverage and don’t want to miss a single thing going on with this Toronto Raptors team. But, let’s dive into the news because frankly, there is a lot of stuff to dive into. The biggest name that’s been brought up this entire off season has been RJ Barrett. Is he getting traded? Is he not getting traded? What’s happened with the new president? and are they going to trade RJ? Steve Nash comes in as the president of basketball operations. He’s RJ Barrett’s godfather. So, there’s no world. Of course, the president stuff, things can switch on a dime depending on who the Raptors hire for that specific role. But, we do have an update in terms of expectations regarding RJ Barrett, how he’s viewed as expendable and all those types of things. So, let’s start with this from Ryan Bolstat saying that uh RJ Barrett is mentioned as expendable mostly because of his contract and the busy situation on the wing. However, I don’t think Barrett will be moved until the new year at the earliest. So, that is interesting regarding RJ Barrett because we’ve heard from guys like Jake Fischer, Brian Winhorse, the Raptors are very active and trying to make moves. RJ Barrett and Manuel Quickley are out there on the trade block in terms of trade negotiations and status and all those types of things. However, Wol stat has come out and essentially said at this point doesn’t expect R.J. Barrett to be traded till at least the new year, which is uh you know very it makes it makes me happy as someone that has come out and been you know adamant at least on giving this team a group not trading RJ Barrett for nothing salary dumb and stuff because frankly RJ Barrett’s one of the more underrated players in the league at this point. I get the advanced stats. I get all that but he’s an effective three-point shooter. He knocks down a high volume out there in the corners 215 and six on a team that was really dysfunctional last season. You can’t deny those are really solid, promising numbers for a 24 year old basketball player. So, I’m happy the Raptors are at least going to see this group play out. Again, if things are messy of were really bad starting off the season, then again, my tone will shift in terms of trades, in terms of moves, in terms of all this, but yes, I get our roster currently expensive. Yes, I get we have a ton of guards and all that at this point here, right now. But, right, like this core group actually makes sense. there’s some roster balance and if people can stay healthy I am very very interested to see how competitive this team is actually trying to get some wins not trying to you know come out there and what is it capture the flag as we were all of last season right being competitive out there on that front this is a roster that I’m actually fairly excited to watch next season so that’s an interesting timeline RJ Barrett but that’s not the only update that we had as basically also uh in terms of the fi staying on the two guard topic we have some updates in terms of who’s going to make the final roster spot So Jared Roden has already been cut and the Canadian loss and AJ Lawson unfortunately might not be far behind though I like his scoring um punch that he provides. So what’s going on here? Well, the Toronto Raptors, if we look at their roster in terms of uh you know, makeup, in terms of structure in this list, you know, it’s all I could screenshot, but there’s about two roster spots left and uh you know, in terms of the mix and we just signed Mamu Kelli to the end of the roster and then we also have Jameson’s B Jameson Battle’s contract that’s going to get guaranteed in the coming days assuming he doesn’t, you know, have a catastrophe out there at summer league or something along those lines. So, basically, the Raptors have that sort of one last final roster spot to be playing with. You know, we got that two-way position. So, uh, currently AJ Lawson’s on an ungaranteed contract going into this year. You could see the Red, him and Coen Castleton fighting for those, uh, you know, final roster positions. So, AJ Lawson’s a guy that I really liked how he closed out the season. Some of the big nights he had, averaged nine points per game, three rebounds, 1.2 22 an assist. Played really solid defense. Only shot 33% from the three-point line and 31% of corner threes, but had some nice where he really really exploded from out there from the three-point line. Of course, I’m biased. I like my Canadians out here on the roster. So, a guy that has some 3 and D upside, has had some good moments across his NBA career, and I’d be very interested in having on this team at the back end of the roster. But, of course, it’s uh you know, when you have that log jam at that shooting guard position, you only have that one spot in terms of the two-way position open. It’s uh it’s going to be tough. And there’s going to be a lot of competition out there during this year’s summer league for who’s going to be making those final couple roster spots. You know, Battle will be fighting, you know, to get his contract guaranteed. And even if he gets that contract guaranteed, there could be some adjustments and some changes in terms of who’s going to be going where and all that. So Lawson looking according to Ryan Ba is going to be the odd man out out here in this position, which is, you know, difficult for Bobby Webster because he did show a lot at the back half of last season. I thought it’ be a guy that could be on this team for a multi-year contract. So interesting stuff there. But we also have some more updates of competition battles for this group as I do expect at least one of Oiabaj Oiabaji or RJ Barrett to be traded for a big man or a point guard at some point down the line. But that’s more of a luxury tax reasons than roster balance. Testing the market on Grady Dick also isn’t the worst idea to me, but they still believe he is a very strong and has not shown anything close to what he’s capable of. So essentially there’s some tricklings you know some rumblings about great dicks market but you know nothing’s firm on that but essentially they uh Ryan Wolat is expecting either RJ Barrett or Oiabaji to get dealt to avoid the luxury tax and that’s a very very tough position for this team to be in. Of course, this will probably, as he mentioned, happen down the line for this Raptors group, you know, coming around, you know, the new year to see what they really have, see how these guys are doing, see who’s worth what contract because Ochai is on a very reasonable contract here at this current moment, but an extension will be coming for Oiabachi very, very soon. I imagine he’s not going to, you know, the team will be interested that play that picking up that option. But, uh, you know, Ochai, I’m not sure, is going to be interested in that sort of deal there at just $8 million with how effective he is from the three-point line, how effective he is on defense. And, you know, I really like Ochiabaji, you know, especially kind of fits that two-way mold defensively and is a nice fit on this Toronto Raptor group. So, you know, Oabaji or RJ Barrett getting dealt is uh very, very interesting to me for the Raptors trying to get under that cap situation. And then also we had an update in terms of uh you know uh Jacobe Walter as management loves Jacobe Walter and was thrilled that he slipped uh to them last season in NBA draft. He had a strong finish to the year and if he dominates in Vegas which could happen he’d have a good momentum heading into camp. Unlike last year where he picked up injuries uh with his at the start of the season with his two shoulder injuries. Unless Grady Dick has a big camp there’s no reason that Walter won’t be ahead of him. And by the end of the year, he looked like a better NBA player than Dick with defense being the most obvious difference between the two. Now, this is a very interesting and frankly, I think this is going to be one of the more polarizing things amongst the Raptors fans over the next couple seasons is, you know, who’s deserves more run, who’s the more deserving backup guard out there for the team, who should be in the starting lineup if the Raptors do make trades, do make moves, Obabaji, Grady Dick, or Jacobe Walter. And you know if uh you know of course ocha just talked about how he could potentially get moved but gritty dick and ochi or the jacobe walter discussion is very interesting because overall dick had the better season last year but well didn’t deal with injuries at the start of the season and stuff and had more of an opportunity. So 14.4 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, two assists. He shot 35% at the three-point line and uh 34% out throw on corner threes. Is 21 years old. had showed some spurts as a really effective, you know, like hustler, rebounder, even though he does get blown by at the point of attack on defense at times, but we know Grady Dick takes some tough shots. He’s one of those spot-up shooters that uh can shoot at a high volume and stuff. And Jacobe Walter, while the overall season stats aren’t as great as Grady Dicks, he’s a year younger, averaged nine points per game, three rebounds, 1.6 six assists. You know, 35% of the three-point line, basically the same shooting percentages out there from the three-point line, is a bit better of a defender and really showed flashes at the back two months of last season that he could be elite. Now, one thing that does have to be taken into consideration is the Raptors were playing much weaker competition at the back half of the year than they were at the front half of the year when Grady Dick really had his great moments. He dealt with injuries the back half of the year. Jacobe Walter was healthy at the back half of the year. So, it’s a really, in my opinion, all up in the air in terms of who’s going to be in what order in the pecking order starting next season, but I definitely do not want to see Jacobe Walter buried on there on the bench. Certainly not Grady Dick as well. So, it’s uh going to be a very interesting development to bring up to follow in the coming weeks. So, let me know what you guys think about all this in the comments section down below. You have the best tank as far. Subscribe to the channel if you guys haven’t already. Anyways, I’m signing out. Cheers.

  1. RJ Barrett may or may not be moved in near term. But that simply means Ochai Agbaji with a small contract easy to move will be moved. Reason being Ochai is an expiring, so if he is worth a late first or two 2nds now. at trade deadline he will be worth less with a bad contract.

ochai is in the fred vanvleet situation where he is due for a big raise and can walk for nothing at the end of the year. so teams will just wait bobby webster out if he drags this on to the trade deadline, where he will be forced to pay ochai 12-16 million a year for 4 years, or trade him for one 2nd round pick and a bad contract, or walk for nothing. we saw what norm powell as an expiring went for. a 2nd round pick and filler in john collins.

  2. Ochai helped his value and J’KW is going to eclipse OA in the next season so you move him.

  3. I like Gradey but I will take Ja'Kobe over him in a heartbeat….Better defense, better handles and waaay smoother, reminds me of Ja Morant when he does his crossover. If his shooting is behind Gradey, it ain't that far behind, he's already a better player, in my opinion……

  4. @benrogers lawson and collins are gone. alijah martin the raptors 2nd round pick hasnt been signed yet indicating they are anticipating someone being moved to keep the roster spot open for the filler coming back. i anticipate ochai is likely the first domino to fall as he is the smallest contract and easiest to move.

most likely destinations for ochai agbaji? lakers for possibly christian koloko who hasnt picked up his two option offered by lakers and isnt on the summer league team.

one other possible destination is dallas who had interest in agbaji at the trade deadline. possibly omax prosper and a 2nd rounder.

outside shot pelicans who can offer 27 year old jose alvarado and a 2nd.

  5. So they trade RJ because he has a high salary and in return they will get someone who has a high salary. Two things on that, one is it doesn't make sense and secondly he has played fantastic since he has been here and he is reliable and the fans love him.

  6. About a year ago I said Gradey D was destined for the G League in a few years, and a lot of people attacked me for it. Now it’s obvious to everyone that GD is a total bust.

  7. If for any reason Mogbo does not have feature with us it really looked bad that we did not draft Filipovsky last year. We have too much wing

  8. @benrogers alijah martin hasnt signed a contract with raptors yet, and june 11 is the first raptors summer league game. will his agent allow martin to play in summer league when he isnt under contract so there is no insurance to compensate him if he is injured?

so look for ochai agbaji to be moved possibly by thursday june 10, 2025.

  9. Walter play in his rookie reason has made Dick expandable unless he comes out being the sniper the was drafted to be. I won’t be surprised if he’s traded before RJ to be honest because his replacement is already on the team.

  10. I feel like keeping Mogbo is a mistake. Do we actually need someone that’s pretty much similar to Collin Murray-Boyles but worst at everything ? Is Mogbo better than Lawson ? 🤔 I feel like we might end up keeping Mogbo and cutting someone that goes somewhere and turn into a better player than him. I just don’t see the need for Mogbo. It just feels like a Thanasis Antetokounmpo situation where we’re just keeping him around to keep Scottie happy.

  11. Moving RJ feels like a mistake to me. Yes he's expensive right now but he's probably your best shot at a guy who will sign a team friendly deal when extending. He's also a very productive part of a starting roster and could be a key piece of a winning team (though probably not a star).

  12. Please, please not Nash or Myers for the vacant Presidents position. Also some other names i've seen thrown out there like David Griffin, James Jones, the guy from Sacramento etc. A hard no to these guys. it would be much better to promote Bobby Webster and Dan Tolzman for the sake of continuity. The only other name i would consider would be Jeff Weltman who was Masai's deputy before he took the gig with Orlando. I hope Pelley does the right thing by Bobby and Tolzman.

  13. The Flagg the Flagg… come on men . Silva was never gona make an All American come to Cant .nada … but jirri got his pink slip so many things are possibe now .

  14. its been a month now that all these trade prospects and big fish were being talked about but nothing is true…

  15. The raptors should sign Westbrook or Boi Boi ….. I would prefer Westbrook he could possibly start or impower the bench….. this is the last dominoe need trade RJ Or Quickly….. TO NEW ORLEANS FOR HERB JONES AND JORDAN HAWKINS

  16. Why not wait to see how scottie starts off the season and if he hasn’t got any better let’s trade his ass, why should everyone be put to the fire except him? This should be his last season to take a leap and be who we all expected him to be or we trade the bum
