Micah Peavy on defensive mindset, New Orleans | 2025 NBA Summer League
How much you mean to you to get this focus on? No, it means a lot. You know, I’ve been waiting on this for the my whole life. So, just just to do that, it means a lot. How was it getting on the court with everybody? You have obviously put into it to start. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it felt good to be out there with my teammates. Um, I think we’re going to uh do really good out there in summer league and we can show everybody what we got. What is something that you want to show? It’s not my dog. Um, that I just make winning plays. Uh, I want to I want to guard the best player on the court. Um, so I want to show what I can do. When you got drafted here, obviously I know you were excited, but like how good of an opportunity is this? How good of a fit do you feel like you are on this team? I feel like it’s a really good fit. I was super excited. Uh, my agent my me and my agents were talking about this place and and uh as one of the places I want to go to. Um, I can learn from guys like uh Trey and um just defensive mighty guys. Um, and the coaching staff love guys like that. So, I’m I’m so excited to to play with these guys and play for the coaches as well. They’ve developed a lot of defensive wings. Is that a part of like maybe what attracted you to like being here? For sure. That’s exactly what attracted me. I see this is a place I can grow as a player and uh play a lot of minutes in the league someday. You knew a lot about the two guys that were drafted with you before you came here, but what’s it been like the last couple days of being out on the court with them? Uh it’s been really cool. Uh we get along off the court as well, so that makes it easy when we on the court. Um, they’re both guys who who love to win, who love to play with uh with a lot of guys, so I’m liking it a lot. I just saw you dab off Coach Green just a second ago. What’s your What’s been your impression of him so far? Say, I’m sorry. I just saw you dab off Willie a minute ago. What has been your impression of him so far? Um, I mean, I like him a lot. Uh, like I said, uh, I like how he plays the defensive wings and he was just talking about uh, my defense and how it’s going to get me on the court. So, I’m going just just keep doing that. Why do you take so much pride? Um, a lot of guys don’t like playing defense and I love it. Um, I don’t like getting scored on. I don’t like other the other team get uh getting buckets. So, I just like to take pride in that and get some stops. Have you always kind of been that way or Yeah, that’s ever since I was little. That’s my dad’s a coach and that’s what he preaches. So, that’s I’ve always been like that. What are your kind of memories about summer? I mean, have you like watched Summer League a lot and just, you know, what kind of coaches? Yeah, I’ve watched it a lot. Um, especially the the past couple years just cuz I knew I was going to get to this point. Um, I know a lot of guys who played in it like my stepbrother in Orlando. So, uh, so yeah, I just I just see a lot of guys playing playing defense. I I see a lot of guys separating themselves, not just by scoring, but playing defense, just doing the little things. So, I can’t wait to do that as well. Who’s your step brother? Anthony Black. Yeah. What have been your early impression of this? I love it. The culture is different. Um, it’s Essence Festival, so a lot of a lot of stuff’s going on here, but the food is great. Like, yeah. Yeah, the food the food is really good. So, I love it here. What is What are some of your impressions of of getting to play with Eve so far? Just throw it up there. He going to catch everything. He guards. Uh, so it’s easy and it’s when me, him, fears, everybody’s on the court guarding. It’s it’s it’s fun to watch and it’s fun to play with. So, you mentioned your dad being your dad being a coach, right? Um, how much maybe like growing up did having someone that knows basketball in and out like help with your development to getting to this point? Yeah, it helped me a lot. Um, my dad didn’t let anything go. Um, I had to play hard at all times. I couldn’t take bad shots. So, I think that’s helped me a lot just getting to this level, playing the right way. Um, just playing hard at all times. What have you seen from Sorry, I can’t hear back here. What have you seen from um, from Fears and Queens game so far and even maybe before? Yeah. Um, they’re dogs. So they they’re both really great players. Fears can really score and and Queen, he can just play. He can he can pass, he can shoot, he can he can do everything. So I can’t wait for them to show what they got um against, you know, some older guys in in the league. So yeah, you talk a lot about defense, but you found some consistency offensively last year. What’s the focus for you on that side? Um just knocking down that corner three. I got to be ready to shoot. Um I got to show that I can shoot at this level. Um it’s it’s deeper. Uh it’s different ball, but I think I’m going to show that I can shoot at this level. uh from from just like an exit to know standpoint, just what has been uh something you’ve noticed that is different here in like the NBA level than maybe something that you know you you did in college? Um I wouldn’t say it’s that different. I feel like at Georgetown uh Ed we run a lot of NBA sets. Um we spread the ball out and we play um a lot of guys corner just we ready to shoot. It’s it’s kind of the same honestly. Does that give you comfort into going into summer league knowing that like being prepared I guess in that? It does. Yeah. I’m not I’m not scared of anything. I’m just ready to play. I haven’t played in a long time since uh March. So, I can’t wait to show what I’ve been working on this off season.

OH GOD!! and thatโs the difference between Willie Green & Corey Brewer, brew knows to play the BEST player and Willie just worried about defense sad! Offense & defense matters
Co would be a better coach. Fr. Itโs malpractice to have Willie Green still employed as a head coach of this team.
He can be a more offensively aggressive Herb. When we drafted him and I heard he was defensive minded, I immediately thought, "Oh, Willie gonna love him!"๐๐
Herb Jones replacement perhaps? ๐
