This is Genuinely SHOCKING…

Folks, I am shocked. Absolutely shocked at what Cavon Looney said about his contract negotiations. Really, lack thereof contract negotiations. A decade with the team. He’s now going to the New Orleans Pelicans. Yes, we saw him have a diminishing role in the team, but you still thought potentially they bring him back back up to TJD, a different center. He didn’t even get a call. Folks, this is not a Cavon Looney appreciation video. We’ll do one in when this all this craziness for summer league for agency is over. But this is pretty big news because this plays into the whole free agency that is happening with Jonathan Kaminga. The Warriors are still the only team not to sign anybody in free agency. Kavon Looney went to the players tribune. It’s a if you don’t know it, I think it’s Derek Jeters if remember correctly where players can write and publish stuff in their own words. And he has an amazing piece. We’re gonna break it down a little bit, but look what he said right here. Um, I’ve had a good 10 years. This time around though, it wasn’t something where the Warriors made me a solid competitive offer and I would be able to pick up pick between the two or maybe give the Warriors a bit of a discount, hometown discount. That wasn’t even an option this time. Unfortunately, that offer never really came. And look, I understand it’s a business. I’m excited to start a new chapter in New Orleans. It’s no hard feelings, but it’s some sad feelings, some emotions, at least on my end. Throughout my 10 years with Golden State, there was never a second when I wanted to be anything other than a warrior. A lot of seasons, no lie, it’d be the trade deadline, and I just bought my house, just absolutely sweating it out. I mean, his name was in there a lot, just straight up looking at the clock every five minutes that afternoon, hoping, praying that the hands on my clock would magically move faster, my phone would never ring, that I wouldn’t have to go somewhere else. And I never regretted not leaving or taking this offer that came up when I could have signed somewhere else in the past. never once thought maybe I should have taken that offer deal. Maybe it would have been better. No way. Well, folks, he did not get an offer this time. And please like and subscribe to Wars Digest. We give you all the biggest news here. I’m just shocked. Not even the offer. Again, look at our roster right now. I know we’re holding out for Jonathan Kaminga, but Rooney was making $9 million. Maybe it was 10 last year. not even give him like a 5 million or a veterans minimum something. Maybe they don’t want to give him a slap in the face, which I can understand, but that is shocking to me. Absolutely shocking that he didn’t get anything whatsoever from the Warriors. If we look at his deal, let me bring it up. Give me one second. Okay, here we go. Sorry about that. Should have had it ready to go. This is what the Pelicans are getting. Still in his prime at 29. To be honest, he came to the Warriors as a 19-year-old. His points really aren’t there. But that’s not what matters. It’s the rebounds. His offensive rebounds are impressive. Almost three a game. And how many times did that keep the Warriors in a game? Fourth quarter. Gets off his rebound. Throws it back to Steph. Throws it back to Clay. Yes, I know I’m talking about previous years. Boom. But this is what really happened. His role diminished. He played, but he wasn’t starting. And that 2122 team when they won the championship, 80 out of 82 games he started. And he was a massive, massive force in the playoffs. If we look at his contract, Pelicans, two years, 16 million, 8 million per year. That’s just wild that we couldn’t offer him maybe three to five. And he talks about that in his thing with the Players Tribune. Again, go read it yourself. It’s his words. It’s really important. Um, it’s free. No pay wall. You can go read it. But he has some really interesting insights, you know, just about being in the Bay for the past 10 years, watching Steph Curry, his as a rookie, and be like, “This guy will be the best player ever. Best play I’ve ever seen in my life.” They lost nine games all season. Remember, here’s a work rookie in the year we went 73 and nine, lost to the Cavs. And he talks about in here like having to warm up to Dre Steph, Steve Kerr, he was a young player on that team. Uh, and he matured and when he finally got the ability to have his voice and he started playing really well, he felt more of a locker room presence. He talked about roar, how loud that place was, how amazing it was to play there. No arena was ever like it. Talks about overcoming injuries, his hip, going UC San, excuse me, San Cruz Warriors, everything that went with it. You can see in some championship photos here, getting bench and having to play through it. It’s just a really, really great read. He said his favorite part ever against Dallas in the playoffs, getting MVP chance, and he made the free throw. He’s not a guy to us like MVP champs and he said it literally was the best thing he ever got. And again, he did not get anything from the Warriors. No call, no deal, no nothing. Per his words. The first two people he called after after folks he left or he was about to leave, Steph and Dre. Nobody else. Those guys, they’ve been my big brothers for the past 10 years, showing me the ropes, guiding me, helping me grow. They’re my mentors, my brothers. 10 amazing years. It’s been hell of a ride. Looney, thank you so much. And your former coach put out a message to you as well. And let let’s play it again. Did not give an offer. Hey Lon, just want to say thank you. This is a tough one. Um 10 years, it’s just been an amazing uh experience for me to coach you. just your professionalism, your dignity, your class, the way you handle yourself, the way you mentor your young teammates. Um, and of course the championship contributions that you’ve made year after year. Um, we uh can’t thank you enough. I can’t thank you enough. Um, thrilled for you for your opportunity in New Orleans, but wow, we are going to miss you. So, uh, thank you for everything you’ve done for me, for our staff, for our team, for the bay. You are the absolute best, Lon. Hey, Lon, that is 100% genuine. I completely uh agree everything he said. I know he’s Steve Kerr is a good person at the heart. Genuine. But we can’t thank you enough. I can’t thank you enough. Thrilled for your opportunity, New Orleans. Well, wow. We’re going to miss you. But reportedly there wasn’t an offer per looney. So what did you expect? What did you expect? I’m shocked. I really don’t know. Uh now the wars are putting some stuff out about Looney, which is really cool to see him getting drafted with Adam Silver, no relation to Randy Silver. His highlights, players talking about him. So again, you can go check this out in full, but I like that the Warriors are giving him a nice little social media post forever. I know. I hope you all know how grateful truly am everyone to Bay. It means the world. When do the Pelicans play the Warriors? I don’t even know if the schedule’s come out. Pelicans out Warriors 2025. I don’t even think they put the schedule out yet. No. Has the NBA schedule come out for next season? I don’t think so. No, they haven’t. It’s not like NFL. But what I’m trying to get to is folks, when when Looney comes back to the Bay for his first game, you know, he’s going to get a standing O. I hope every time he comes back he gets a standing O. He 100% deserves it. Folks, comment your thoughts. Is there a moment with Looney that means the most to you? Something he did? Something he said? Maybe you had a chance to meet him. Whatever it may be. Thank you, Looney, for your service. Myself, Ben, Arthur, Warriors Digest, Digest Media. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Can’t wait to uh maybe get your jersey in the rafters. Probably not, but something something. You are a big part of Warriors history. Thank you.

Kevon Looney is leaving the Warriors after a decade with the only team he has known in the NBA. Looney just wrote his good-bye to the bye, and there is a part in there that is SHOCKING. Randy Silver on Warriors Digest dives into it and Looney’s overall impact as a member of Golden State.

  1. i think is that they want his space for QP and Trace… and there is no point in giving him a contract for not playing… he deserves better

  2. Loon seems so down to earth and made the best of his time as a warrior. I think he impacted every team mate and person who took the time to know him. He has a true love for the fans. He’s as real as they come. He will be missed players and people like him are often the glue that holds others together. I wish the absolute best for him moving forward.

  3. Loon was an amazing contributor to the Dubs. His 3 pointer was a highlight. I hope he does well with JP. But time was up for SK fav. Now MD go and get big Al.

  4. Sad to see him go..They should have offered him the minimum from day one…They probably did not anticipate him getting that kind of offer.

  5. It was time. Looney was great, no hate towards the Warriors front office – they’re working on improving the roster. Looney got a great offer.

  6. @WarriorsDigest NBA schedule usually comes out in mid August for your reference so you know for future videos. Last season it was August 13?

  7. It's a business. He took his services elsewhere and got paid and we have a roster spot. Good for him… get your money big fella.

  8. The Warriors are rotting from within!!! The handling of players, KD, Poole, James Wiseman, Disrespecting JK, and now Disrespecting Looney in this way??????
Fire Steve Kerr!!!!!!! The core of gangreen!!!!!

  9. I keep telling you, the Warriors have been leaderless for years now. When Bob left that was it. No Jerry West anymore…bunch of Lacob's kids running the show now. Kerr is in way over his head. Next two years are gonna suck.

  10. Should we call for a wellness check on the FO?
Not sure if they are still around at this point 😮

  11. Maybe time to go, but damn so unceremoniously? Regardless of his impact, he has been around for damn near all of it as a consummate professional. He seems like a man of exceptional character and integrity. It is bittersweet to see him go for sure.

  12. C’mon do you really not understand that they have to make the bigger moves first because of the cap and apron rules??? Looney might have been the heart and soul of the team for the past decade, but a smart team has to do business first. As much as it might inspire “feelings”, they have much bigger needs than a backup center who struggles to catch a pass, let alone finish at the rim.

  13. I would have atleast offered the vet minimum. Glad he is getting paid the good money in new orleans. Never gonna hate on him. Looney is a dubs legend
