MASSIVE UPDATE: Pistons Pivot? More Trades On the Table 👀 | Pistons Jack Reacts
Welcome back to the YouTube channel. On today’s episode, we’ll talk about the Malik Monk three team trade between the Pistons, Kings, and Warriors, what’s going on there, and all the updates surrounding that. We’ll talk about some front court options the Pistons could sign to vet minimums to help out at the fourth, and we’ll wrap up with some Euro basket chats. So, let’s get to it. All right, so let’s get straight into it. Let’s talk about this Malik Mark 3 team trade. Yesterday, I dropped a video uh late last night for my friends over in the US breaking down the three-team team trade between the Warriors, Kings, and Pistons that would have Detroit land Malik Monk. The Kings would get Dennis Schroeda or Shruda, I should say, Jonathan Kaminga, and the Warriors would land uh Devin Carter, a promising secondyear player, uh and I believe Dario Sarich. Now, I’m not going to go into the deal too much, but the update here is that the Warriors are essentially the ones holding up the deal. They are trying to make sure they get good value back for a former lottery pick at number seven overall pick and Jonathan Kaminga. They’re the ones that sounds like are holding this up. They’re weighing up all their options with Kaminga. They still might want to bring him back. Uh Brett Seagull from Clutch Points reported that the deal didn’t really ever get too close to being completed last night uh due to the Warriors and them fielding all options for Kaminga and like I just said trying to see if they want to actually bring him back. Uh it also sounds like the Pistons uh might be looking to if the Kaminga deal falls through uh potentially open this up and uh with the Kings and bring in a third team. And we’ll talk about a player I know you’ve all been asking about uh who could fill that front court need in just a moment and how that trade would look. But I think it’s just worth quickly going over if this deal falls through. If the three team trade between these three don’t happen, the options are the Pistons can still complete a clean signing trade with the Kings for Malik Monk because Monk comes under that $22 million annual salary. They can bring Monk back. Schroeder straight out. Shruder, I’ll get it right, I promise. and that deal can be done. So, the reason the Kings are obviously incentivized to loop in the three-team trade here and won’t want to agree to that outside of maybe the Pistons not wanting Monk as much, but the reason they want the three team trades because they’re huge on Jonathan Kaminga. So, they’re going to try and keep this three team trade alive for as long as they can to land Kaminga. But on Detroit’s half, they also, whilst it appears with this deal, there is a reignite interest in Malik Monk, uh Brett Seagull from Clutch Points also reported that the Pistons are also looking for other ways to expand this deal. Um so that is still an option. Uh so option one is the Pistons can still complete a clean signing trade with the Kings for Malik Monk. Got a little thumbs up there. Option two is the Pistons can expand this deal to a three-team trade. And we’ll talk about another potential example in just a moment. And option three is, and this is also likely, and Pistons fans should prepare themselves for this just a little bit, the Pistons could not complete any trade. Let Dennis Shrew walk. And because they’re operating as an overthe cap team, they can take in a $14.3 million trade exception into next season, which they can use, they have to use before the next season’s trade deadline in February. So that it I had a look at teams with salary cap space next year, but obviously because we’re in the middle of free agency, it’s hard to get a gauge. But the Pistons could in theory use that trade exception as a part of a bigger trade where they could use that 14 million and add on player salary. So let’s for the sake of it say for some reason they want to trade Marcus Sasser and Ron Holland in a deal. Sasser and Holland salaries I think together equal around 10 million plus the 14 million. You can put that together and trade that to another team to bring back a player worth 24 million. So that’s how the trade exception works. They have to use it before the trade deadline next season. But that’s they’re the options where we’re at. So um the other important thing to remember with Sleep Monk deal is whilst the talks might have stalled a little bit, nothing really has to happen until July 6th. So I believe by the time that this is dropping, it’s July 3 or 4 wherever you are in the world. So we spoke about this with Kyle on the live stream a day ago. Like whilst the trade chat has heated up with the signing trade for the Pistons last night, there’s still very likely this doesn’t get done until July 6th. Um because there’s no real rush to and you know teams like the Kings want to make sure this deal works 100% for them before they commit to it. Everyone’s trying to make sure their leverage is in the right spot to help them the most. And that’s obviously when you have multiple teams involved is going to take longer. And these deals don’t have to be done until July 6th. the sign and trade type thing. So, just another thing to remember. Um, but let’s get to a player I know everyone’s been asking about, and this is a realistic option that could happen. Uh, is the Pistons adding John Collins. So, how this would work is the Pistons, Kings, and Jazz would have to pull off a three-team trade. I’m not exactly sure what the Jazz would take back, but I assume they might want uh some sort of player. Um maybe they want Marcus Sasser or Bobby Clement from the Pistons because in order for the Pistons to bring back John Collins salary, they’re going to have to John Collins I think makes around 25 26 million. So he’s 3 to four million over that 22 million the Pistons can bring back for Schroer Shruder leaving. So they would have to add on Marcus Sassa and maybe Bobby Clipman. Now I’m not sure if you’re comfortable with doing that. I’m not even sure if I am. But I think those are the contractwise how it can work for them to bring back Collins in this potential three team trade. So if they are able to get Collins, that’s what the deal is going to look like. It’s going to mean the Pistons have to send out another player slash or contract to bring back Collins salary of 25 26 million. Um but I look if we just quickly talk about how Collins would fit, I mean I think he’d be an like I still think he’s a backup for I don’t think you’re siding him ahead of Tobias. I think Tobias is the veteran leader on this team. He I thought Tobias was really good last season. Uh if you look at the counting stats and don’t watch the games, then sure, you might come back at me, but the advanced numbers, the on-off numbers with him were exceptional. I thought he handled Cat pretty well in the playoffs, and he had some big offensive games in the playoffs. 20 point first half I think in game one. Uh I think he had like a 25 point 25point game in game five, I want to say, facing elimination. got hit in the face, still came through, hit threes, pull up midies. I think Tobias keeps that spot. But John Collins, you would have him as your backup four, small ball five. Say Stew’s out for a few weeks with, you know, an injury, he might pick up uh if Jaylen Duran’s out, you can play Jon Collins as a backup five. You got big ball there with some optionality, too, of course. But I think John Collins in theory can stretch the floor. He’s athletic. Uh I think bringing him off the bench would be exceptional. Maybe he starts if Tobias well he would start if Tobias is out. And I think that backup for front court hole that we keep talking about it would be sorted. Um and I think maybe Collins if he performs really well maybe he is your starting for of the future. I probably lean towards no. But you never know. He could come into a revitalized role with the Pistons where we’re a playoff team. he could get that spark back that he had at Atlanta before he went to the Jazz on a rebuilding team and maybe he is the starting for of the future. You know, not every player in every position has to be like that, you know, high lottery pick that we’re kind of blessed to have right now with like Duran K IVSR. Like there’s going to be players in your starting group that you know you might when your team acquire them, they don’t seem like the sexy name, but they fill that role perfectly. And John Collins, maybe he could be that. So, uh, that’s my thoughts on John Collins. Let me know your thoughts on that. I think honestly, if the Pistons come out of this with Collins or Monk, I’m going to be happy either way because I think Collins probably feels a more desperate need for this roster in terms of what they need next year. But Monk’s probably the more talented player and I think he gives you a lot more diverse scoring. So, I think either player really help. We’ll see what happens. I will keep you posted for sure. Um, and look, I I think we’ll save it for another video if the deal officially falls through on like some of the other names the Pistons can work in for a trade, but I think Collins was worth spending a few minutes on cuz that’s actually a realistic target um for the team. Uh, moving on, let’s say the Pistons, they do the Malik Monk trade and that goes through and they bring in another guard. Uh, we spoke about Monk’s fit on the team last video, so go watch that if you want to hear my thoughts there. But if the Pistons bring Malik Monkey in, they’re still going to have that huge hole at the back up four position. These are just two to three names that are left as free agents that the Pistons could sign as free agents to a vet minimum. So you can sign players to vet minimums. I believe like you can go over the cap to add these players. Don’t quote me on that, but if they bring back Monk, they can still go and get these guys on vet min. So, the Pistons, uh, Evan Cider, who I don’t know if this was an actual report or just putting two things together, but the Pistons are a team to watch for Chris Buché, who’s been with the Raptors his whole career. Uh, he’s like 69, I want to say, real lengthy uh, type of big man backup for he’s probably a true power forward now. He’s very slim, so you know, he’s a decent shot blocker, but he’s not the best like rebounding presence, interior presence, but he can shoot it. Last year on four attempts a game, shot 35 36% from three, averaged 10 points, five boards, only 17 minutes. So, he’s a productive guy that comes in, makes plays, make buckets. I remember in a game last year against the Pistons in Detroit, he hit a lot of threes, unorthodox kind of release, but he he makes it work for the most part. So, that’s a name to watch and particularly because there is some entrance there. If Buché doesn’t end up a Piston, these are probably the only two other names I could come up with for you guys to keep an eye on. But, um, Trey L, who I’ve spoken about a little bit, can play small ball back up five or is your true backup four, can shoot three. We know a lot about Trey L. And then Precious Aua is another name who I know the Knicks aren’t bringing back. So, um, not not a shooter per se, but can rebound, handle the ball a little bit, score inside. um he could be an option at the backup for as well. Even though he’s probably not going to help space the floor if you just need a body, athletic body, I think that could be another option to watch. Finally, quick one before we wrap it up here. I thought this is really cool cuz I feel like as since I’ve been a Pistons fan, we haven’t really had this, but Bobby Clement is reportedly going to play for Sweden, his national team at the Euro Basket in late August. Uh we would have I believe Simone Fonteio is playing for Italy but he’s not on the team anymore. So Bobby sounds like the only Piston. Uh Dennis Schroeda who would have been another Piston. Keep an eye on he’s playing for Germany of course with I believe the Wag Vagna brothers in Mo and France. Uh Larry Markin will be playing for Finland. Jonas Valentunis and Demonus Sabonis Lithuania and then Chris Pzingis for Latafia. They’re just some of the names. But I think this will be really fun for us as fans to watch in late August. Watch one of our guys. I haven’t looked at the Swedish team too deeply, but I assume Bobby will definitely get minutes um at at some point. I’m not obviously Jonas Jerbco is a famous Swiss Swiss player who played for the Pistons, but he’s obviously retired. So, haven’t seen their roster, but I would assume Bobby will play. It’ll be a nice little thing for us to watch. Ty over in the offseason. So, shout out to Bobby. Wishing him the best of luck, and I’ll be tuning into those games where I can and bringing you guys coverage. But that’s going to do it for today’s show, guys. Let me know your thoughts on some of these moves, where the team’s at. loving the growth on the channel. I appreciate all the new subs, all the existing subs. Means so much to me to see this thing picking up some steam and I hope you’re enjoying the content. But until next video, as always, go Pistons. [Music]

Appreciate all the recent love on the channel! What moves do you want the Pistons to make to finish their offseson? 👇
Bol bol or Boucher as the back up pf
Monk is overpaid / under preforming. Gonna take the tpe unless an interesting player comes from another team. If taking the tpe they will still have the bi anual for Trey Lyles or Chris Boucher.
Collins is over paid
Tobias was great for us but Collins would definitely start. Hes a much better player at this point. My scenario however would be to try for Monk AND Collins. Do a sign and trade with Shroeder for Monk and then do a separate trade with Utah centered around Harris/filler (2nds, Sasser, Klintman, hopefully not a first) for Collins. Sign Chris Boucher for depth.
Cunningham/Ivey
Ivey/Monk/Lanier
Thompson/Robinson/LeVert
Collins/Holland/Boucher
Duren/Stewart/Reed
I love and appreciate you so much, Jack. But Trajon isn't gonna trade his very first draft pick. There's pride in that type of stuff. Unless he sees Ron, not improving. But we all know that's not the case.
Monk and Lyles would work. Lyles could back up Harris well, and he's been a Piston.
Tobias was clutch
Alot of teams trying to get collins. Im taking a leap of faith for klintman 😂
Collins n Tobias both on expiring deals would free up apprx 50 mill for next yr…but Ainge is too shrewd to deal with…maybe PJ Washington also be option
I love the Malk Monk for Dennis Schroder sign in trade. After that the player from the Raptors would be okay. I believe the Pistons should stand pat other than that.
Is Mo Wagner a free agent? Thoughts….Michigan connection
Appreciate all your hard work, Jack
Really want monk
John Collin’s coming off the bench is hilarious lol.. John Collins and Tobias can play together and Ausar.
We keep klintman he has potential 🎉
We should keep Schroder, we don't need Monk. Everything we. need is in the room.
Monk would be a great starting SF/Wing..
From all accounts, John collins is a bad defender
If we take back a Traded Player Exception for Dennis, we wouldn't be able to aggregate the TPE with another player to increase the allowable return. Slightly different rules for simultaneous and non-simultaneous trades.
I hope the pistons don’t give up on the young guys (like they have in the past) and get desperate for a 4. I like the back up vet options on a one or two year deal and give Klintman some time.
