Rockets Trade Cam Whitmore To Wizards For Two Second Round Picks

Yo, what’s going on, guys? About half an hour or so ago, Cam Whitmore was traded to the H from the Houston Rockets to the Washington Wizards. It was tweeted out by Sham Shania. I will read you right here the exact details of the transaction. And basically what we’re hearing are the Washington Wizards are acquiring Cam Whitmore from the Houston Rockets in exchange for a 2026 Chicago Bulls second rounder and a 2029 Sacramento Kings second rounder. Basically, the Houston Rockets had a roster crunch that they had to do and a combination of salary cap gymnastics and they send his contract out to a rebuilding team which it seems that his representation wanted him to go to a team that was going to give him the opportunity to play and have the, you know, minutes and the shots to grow, which not that this team in Houston was bad for him, but for a guy that he was the odd man out. They had championship aspirations. They weren’t going to allow him to go and, you know, be brought on slowly. But in 98 games for them, he had average just under 11 points, three and a half rebounds, about an assist a night on 45% from the field. 36% almost from three, an effective field goal percentage of 53%. Last year, he averaged lower than his, you know, rookie year. Nine and a half points, three rebounds, one assist a game on 35% almost 36% and almost 45% from the field. And this is a an individual who has shown that as a person when he does get the opportunity, he could be a 20 point per game scorer who grabs you, you know, five rebounds, six rebounds a game while dishing out a few assists, someone who can score at all three levels, has the size to play, both forward positions, and probably is athletic enough to play the the two guard, the big two guard. So for Brian Keefe, who’s a defensiveminded coach, it’s a good guy to bring in that now. You know, you have Bob Carrington, CM, Chris Middleton, Blow Cal, and Alex R. In theory, you put in Bub Carrington and probably the Trey Johnson, Bub Carrington, Trey Johnson, Cam Whitmore, Blog, Cool Ball, Alexar is like the future with still, you know, Marcus M, AJ Johnson, Cory Kesper, Kehan George. Now, obviously, Cam Whitmore, Dylan Jones, another one that they brought in. They drafted Will Riley. They have Justin Champeny, Kelly Oen, and Rashad Holmes. So, I think it’s good while, you know, if you’re the Rockets, you were able to make some money moves. And in terms of you know salad cap gymnastics you have wave jock Landal and you have Fred Van Bele Amen Thompson Kevin Durant Jabari Smith Jr. Alpine Shagun, Aaron Holidayiday, Reed Shepard, Nate Williams, to Tory East and Dorian Finny Smith, Steven Adams, Clink Capella, Jeff Green, and Deshawn Tate. So to me, it was just all about figuring how to, you know, be compensated for a player who was obviously on his way out. And this is the best way I think they could have gone about it. And it’s just how we are with the second apron and everything, especially with the the most important thing for a team nowadays is to set yourself up in a good opportunity to resign a player or to move him or resign to move him or resign to keep him like they had done with the Jaylen Green and Jabari contracts. And obviously Cam Whitmore was not going to fit here. So he just had to do it. And Washington gets a former first round pick who was a fivestar recruit on a discount bargain. Let me hear your thoughts down below on this one. Quick little recap. Like, comment, and subscribe if you made it to the end.

The houston rockets have traded cam whitmore to the washington wizards in exchange for two second-round picks, giving whitmore a fresh start close to home as he turns 21. Whitmore has averaged 10.8 points over two seasons and posted impressive efficiency last year, ranking 4th-best in points per touch among players with 1,000+ touches.

Cyro Asseo breaks down the trade and what this opportunity means for whitmore and the wizards’ roster moving forward.

  1. This isnt bad at all for rockets, they were like -5 on on/off stats when he was on the court. Players like ja'sean tate and aaron holiday did much better even with less minutes than Whitmore. But i think Cam can be a great fit with some other teams. And of course, rockets have so any young pieces who performed just as good, if not better than cam last year with similar playing time, like reed sheppard. Also, rockets are now under the first apron because of this trade, so this does help rockets.

  2. Rockets offered him to the Suns. Suns preferred getting two more seconds. So Rockets got those seconds elsewhere. Glad they did him a solid by sending him to his hometown team where he'll have a real chance to play. Doing right by your players is not ignored by potential future free agents. His offensive tools are amazing, but for the Rockets he'd be a net negative.
