This is Absolutely INSANE…

This is absolutely insane. The Memphis Grizzlies just finished playing their second summer league game of the 2025 summer league season in a one-point heartbreaking loss to the Utah Jazz that ended in controversial fashion. Hi everybody, welcome back to Grizzly Digest. I’m Tristan Harland. Excited to dive into the summer league game with you and hope you had a good Monday. For those of you that don’t know, College Football 26 dropped today. So, if you got the early access like myself, I hope you guys have been playing it, enjoyed it, had a good work day, work night if you’re watching this at work. But yeah, before we begin, want to remind everybody before I forget, 87.6% of you are not clicking that subscribe button. 12.4% of you guys are. So, if you like what you see, like what you hear, like hearing about the Grizzlies, talking about the Grizzlies in the comments, and talking about the Grizzlies on social media, make sure you’re clicking that red shiny subscribe button because it’s everybody’s favorite price, $3.99. So, like I mentioned, the Grizzlies just finished their second summer league game of the season. And quite frankly, in my opinion, it ended on what should have been a game-tying shot to go into overtime when GI Jackson hit a running three running three-point shot that they classified as a two-pointer, which evidently ended up giving the Jazz the one-point advantage to go on to win. So, I’m not going to bore you with talking about uh each individual aspect of the game because I know it’s summer league and a lot of you guys only care about who’s shining and what what what are these prospects doing. So, I’m going to go ahead and share the box score with you. Of course, this is coming from NBA.com and Jaylen Wells, of course, over 20 points. Gigi Jackson 27 points, but Cam Spencer scoring 23 points. Man, let me tell you, when I I was watching the game in in segments because I was doing other things and, you know, here at my house and do and other stuff like that, but GG or not GI Jackson, but Kim Spencer pulls up four three-pointers and drains them all. He had one heat check that I didn’t think he was going to make, but he absolutely drained. And I mean, again, you’re seeing the numbers. 7 to 14 from the field, 7 to 10 from three-point land. And man, Cam Spencer is proven that he belongs in the league. Now, I look, I gotta tell you, these these guys on the summer league roster, they’re going to be stars of the next level. And I’m talking about Spencer, Jackson, and Wells. Now, we already knows know what Jaylen Wells can do. I mean, he’s been he’s proven himself in the NBA in the starting rotation, you know, deep in the playoff run before he got evidently before he, you know, got hurt and whatnot. He was proving himself. GG Jackson’s another guy. I I I want to say this and I want to know how many of you guys agree with me in the comments, but I love seeing GG Jackson take that next step in this game. Now, we saw him shine in the G-League this past season, but man, I know a lot of people said it then, but I’m going to re resay it now, and I mean it when I say it this time. GG Jackson’s gonna be a star in the league. Whether that’s with the Grizzlies or by God, I hope it’s with the Grizzlies, but if it’s not with the Grizzlies, anywhere he goes, he’s going to be a star. Now, of course, tonight we saw the debut of Mhack and 10 personal fouls. 10 personal fouls. Of course, today was the first game that he could have played with the Grizzlies as the trade with the Warriors was finalized and he was now a member of the roster. So, I’m sure we’ll see him bounce back. But again, he’s a menace on defense, but he’s got to get those fouls down if he wants to be a force in the rotation, if he even wants to get a roster spot at all. But of course, you know, a lot of the a lot of the fans and I were talking about the game while the game was going on in our Twitter in our Twitter group chat. Um the grit the grit and grind chat. Uh and you know, I want to shout out those guys in that chat because you know, it’s very entertaining to see what they have to say about the game when it’s going on and even if they’re a couple seconds ahead of me. But what this means for the Grizzlies and what this means for the rest of the summer league. Now, of course, next their next game is against the 76ers. The 76ers have not won a summer league game yet, but for those of you that aren’t watching these games, listen, if if you have the time, I highly suggest you tune in to these games because they’re entertaining. Now, I get it. Summer League is not, you know, summer league is not just primar Premier Basketball and it’s not the NBA and it’s not what everybody wants to watch. But dude, if there was any indication of how talented the guys are on the Grizzly summer league roster, it was tonight. And you know, hat hats off to the Utah Jazz because they brought the fight. And I I look, I I can’t say much more about this team and because I just queued my box score away. But Zion Poland kind of sold there late in the game. He gave up a turnover that ended up letting the Jazz get it on the opposite end. They scored two free throws which put him up by three which ended up leading to the running three-point shot that GG ended up converting on. But I can’t speak more on GI Jackson because I mean everybody knows his game at this point. He comes in, he dominates. He plays almost 30 minutes a game like he did tonight. And he’s shooting a great percentage. 61% 11 of 18, three of eight from the three-point land. Now, yeah, that could possibly go up. But I’ll tell you, if the Grizzlies decide to move on from Contavius Cwell Pope and Cole Anthony both, then I wouldn’t be mad at seeing Gigi Jackson starting at the three or possibly even starting at the four while Jiren if Jiren misses the opener putting Gigi at that four spot and possibly putting Santi at the five spot. But let me tell you, for the first time in a while, I can confidently say the Grizzlies are going to have a great set of role players on their roster this season. And while yes, time is going to tell how the Grizzlies are going to play. I can tell you these three things right now. I’m excited. I’m I’m happy to see the Grizzlies getting these young players that they can rely on and depend on. And again, I’ll reiterate it and I apologize for my eyes watering, but my allergies are bad dam the summer. But I look, I can’t stress it enough. GG Jackson’s going to be starring this league. It it just depends on when it’s going to happen. Is it going to happen this season? Is it going to happen next season? Or is it going to take a complete new rebuild of the Grizzlies for them to finally put Gigi in a premier spot? Now, I’m not saying there is going to be a rebuild anytime soon, but if you put Jaw, Jared, and GG in the same lineup with Jaylen Wells, boy, that’s going to be a nice lineup to see. But again, look, the summer league is all about improvement and is all about development. And seeing young guys like a Gi Jackson who was born in 2004 makes me feel a little old because I was born in 2002. Seeing him dominate professional basketball like this is very very exciting if you’re a Grizzlies fan, if you’re a basketball fan because I mean the dude can hoop. Now, I’m not saying I could go out there and drop 30 points in an NBA summer league game, but to see a young guy like that go out and dominate in a game where 22 to 25 year olds are dominating and even some 40 year olds as you get up into the NBA league. Dude, I’m telling you, and again, I’m going to reiterate it. Gigi Jackson’s going to be a star. Cam Spencer show is showing he can be a reliable bench player and Jaylen Wells is showing that he could be a reliable option while the Grizzlies are kind of hurting and sore from the how last season ended to the start of this season. But again, the Grizzlies are one and one in the summer league. The development of Gigi Jackson is going to be the number one storyline we’re gonna follow for the remainder of the summer league because everybody knows how Wells can play. Are we gonna see Cedric Coward? I doubt it. Will we see Ma Meshak kind of develop more and get more points and kind of not foul out and get 10 foul personal fouls? We’ll have to wait to see that, too. But again, I want to remind everybody that 87.6% of you guys are not subscribed, 12.4% of you guys are. We are over that 1,00 mark. So, again, thank you guys for that. 1. Let’s slow down on gg going to be a ⭐️. I’m rooting for him and he looked really good but he could barely contribute last year. And he’s kinda a knucklehead

  2. Wells could play awful all summer league and I’d still be starting him based on last season alone. He’s a nightmare on defense. From the minutes I watched, he generated three turnovers on defensive positioning alone via offensive fouls. His basketball iq has improved. 2025-2026 is gonna be a good season for Jaylen. Also, the grizzlies summer league bigs are horrendous so that is factoring into everything taking place on the court.

  3. Cam had a 50 point game with the Hustle last year. He's a great replacement for Luke and he's way better on defense and just a straight DAWG!
