Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Sign Bradley Beal Or Malcolm Brogdon In 2025 NBA Free Agency?
On today’s show, we have the latest rumors on Bradley Beal and Malcolm Brogden. Could Lakers GM Rob Pelinka be in play for these two free agents here as week two of 2025 NBA free agency gets underway? Welcome into the Lakers report by Chad Sports. Jeffrey Cooperstein here with you guys. We’ll kick off today’s show by asking you this question. Name someone you want the Lakers to sign down in the comment section. If it’s Bradley Beal, if it’s Malcolm Brogden, if it’s someone else that’s still a free agent like Chris Paul, drop their name down there in the comment section. I want to see how many names we can get there down below. We’ll start with Bradley Beal here, who is rumored to be bought out by the Phoenix Suns, and it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a free agent. And the Lakers are expected to show interest in Beal once his buyout is finalized. Now, would the Lakers be favorites to sign Beal? That remains to be seen. But Fred Katz had this report here on the latest on Bradley Bill where he said the goal for the Suns is to negotiate a buyout, wave him, and then stretch his remaining salary over five years, which mean because you have two years left and then you have to multiply it by two and add one. So that’s how you get to five, which would reduce his annual cap hit on the Suns books. The move would not only get Phoenix out of the second apron, a dreaded play payroll threshold where only the most expensive teams venture, but also out of the luxury tax altogether. So, it would open up a ton of flexibility for the Suns to buy out Beal and then Beal could also go join a contender. So Fred Cats listed these four teams as potential destinations for Bradley Beal. The Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers, or the Englewood Clippers, as I like to call them, the Golden State Warriors, and the Milwaukee Bucks all as potential shooters for Mr. Beal. And the amount that all the teams can offer kind of varies a little bit here. The Lakers have the 5.1 million by annual exception to use. So that could be at their disposal. They already used the full midle on DeAndre Aiden and Jake Laravia. So they have that by annual exception. The Clippers have the taxpayer mid-level exception to use as well at 5.3 million. And then the Warriors have the full mid-level to use the non- taxpayers. They are under the luxury tax. The Bucks are up against it the most out of any of these four squads and they could only offer Beal a veteran minimum. But I do think it’s possible that Beal could take a minimum considering he’ll still be getting paid a significant amount by the Phoenix Suns over the next 5 years. Beal last season did see a decline in numbers in 32 minutes a game. Only played in about uh 58 games, I believe, and came off the bench a little bit as well. 53 games, excuse me. But he averaged 17 points and shot pretty well still from the field at almost 50% and 38.5% from three. But as you can see over the last two seasons, his numbers have taken a pretty steep decline from 22 23 on where he averaged 23.2 points and then it dropped five to 18.2 in 23 24 and then again dropped another point or so in 24-25. Be on the wrong side of 30 has been declining over the last two seasons. And the one of the other things is he’s never healthy. He never plays a full season. There’s always something going on with Beal that prevents him from playing in 65 70 games a year. He’s always around that 50 to 55 game threshold. And if you’re the Los Angeles Lakers who are looking for someone to come in there and be a six-man type who can score, who can play a little bit of point guard if he needs to as well and who could play a significant amount of minutes like 24 to 28 minutes a night for hopefully 65 to 70 games. You’re not going to get that in Beal. That’s just not going to happen. now. And I don’t I also am not sure about this. Would he be okay coming off the bench? I don’t know if Beal wants to come off the bench. I think it’s certainly a possibility that it happens. And if he’s joining the Lakers, it would be the case. Same with the Clippers. I think same with any of the four teams that we previously mentioned. Be would be coming off the bench. And he did come off the bench a little bit with Phoenix last year. But I don’t think he was the most happy about that situation. maybe that now that he would be joining a potential contender here in the Western Conference in the form of the Lakers or the Clippers or whoever it may be, he’d be more willing to come off the bench and help contribute to a winning situation. So, I I think if he’s willing to come off the bench, it’s potentially an option for Rob Pelinka and LA. Should the Lakers sign Bradley Beal? That’s the question I have for you guys. If you think they should pull the trigger, type S for sign. If you don’t, type P for pass. Let me know what you guys think down there in the comments. I would pass if I’m Rob Pelinka. I just don’t think Beal is the right fit for what the Lakers need right now. LA needs someone who is going to be a more true point guard and we’ve seen Beal try to run point guard with the Phoenix Suns when they had the Booker and Durant tandem there alongside Beal. It just didn’t work out. Bradley Beal is the shooting guard as shooting guards get and the Lakers already have that position covered. So, if it were me, I think I would politely pass if I was Rob Plinka, but I’m not making the decisions over there in Hollywood. We’ll talk about Malcolm Brogden in just a moment, but before we do that, we have this dope Lakers hoodie on sale right now with our friends at Fanatics. When you go to chatports.com/lakers sweatshirt that the sweatshirt was $65, now it’s 20, well over 50% off. You can go get it right now at chatports.com/lakers sweatshirt. That link will be in the comments and description of today’s show, chatsports.com/lakers sweatshirt. Could Malcolm Brogden be a guy that the Lakers take a look at here in 2025 NBA free agency? out right off the bat. I’d be more interested in signing Brogden than I would Bradley Beal. And I know when you look at the numbers for Brogden the last two years are going to be of concern because he did not play limited to just 24 games last year. He was shut down in early March by the Washington Wizards and they mutually agreed to shut shut him down for the rest of the season amid injuries and excuse me in the direction of the franchise and whatnot. So I’m not sure that Brogden played his best basketball last season. In fact, I know he didn’t play his best basketball last season. And I think if he could get to what he was with the Boston Celtics, with the Portland Trailblazers, the Lakers would be getting a steal with the bianual exception if that’s the route they chose to go with Brogden. And the one thing I like about Brogden over Beal is he plays more point guard than Bradley Beal does. Brogden is a true point guard and can can run an offense, can initiate an offense, can bring the ball up the court under pressure, and can get teams into the right positions to make a play in the half court. And I think that’s what the Lakers really need because you have Luca, you have Austin Reeves, and then outside of that, you’re looking at Gabe Vincent as your backup PG. Like, you need another ball handler on that team to take the load off of Luca and Reeves. Reeves can play the one two if you need to, but you all you just need another guy in there. You can’t go the entire season with just two primary ball handlers. You also have LeBron who can do it, but that’s a different story for a different day. And I really do believe that this is the biggest remaining need for the Los Angeles Lakers. They addressed their biggest need in 2025 NBA free agency with the signing of DeAndre Aton and Jackson Hayes. Center was their big need. They got run out of the gym by the Minnesota Timberwolves because of their lack of a center. They went and they got DeAndre Aton who is a starting caliber center in this league and they retained Jackson Hayes who as a backup is a playable guy. And by the way, Hayes did wave his no trade clause uh to resign with the Lakers. So, he was help he helped the Lakers out a little bit as well and uh by waving that clause in order to come back. The biggest remaining hole for this squad for me is backup point guard and I don’t think there’s a question about it. Look, you can say the Lakers need an upgrade at wing and that’s why they’re interested in trading uh for for Andrew Wiggins of the Miami Heat, but their biggest need that they can fill without giving up any assets is point guard and I don’t think there’s even a question about it. What do you guys think though? Do you think PG is the biggest remaining need for LA? I think it absolutely clearly is. If you don’t, comment what you think the biggest need for Los Angeles is down below. That will do it for today’s show, guys. I appreciate you for tuning in to the Lakers Report by Chat Sports. If the Lakers make a move, you know where to be. It’s right here on the channel. We’ll see you guys soon.
Los Angeles Lakers rumors as week 2 of 2025 NBA Free Agency focus on the guard position, which Lakers GM Rob Pelinka is seeking to upgrade before the start of the 2025-26 NBA season. After signing Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes, the Lakers’ focus will be in the backcourt to try to find a backup guard behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Bradley Beal and Malcolm Brogdon are two names that have been linked to the Lakeshow, but will either of them be playing in purple and gold next season? Should the Lakers sign Bradley Beal? S for Sign, P for Pass
First 💪🏾 Acknowledge me
BE ROB PELINKA! What is the Lakers biggest need remaining?
Dime Time
they should sign both if they have enough roster spots
P. We need Brogdon. We need defense. We also need Wiggins or Marcus Smart too.
The Clippers open a starter roll
I want D, Anthony Melton
Trade Lebron for Kuminga!
Trade for Dillon Brooks.
Nope! Give me cp3 instead
Ima keep it a buck! Lakers not ran that Good but they still win championships. The clippers suck bro, I don’t know why people would pick that organization over the lakers they will never be nothing. The lakers got the ghost of Jerry Bus which equates to winning. Mean while the clippers got the ghost of donald sterling a slave master, clippers are forever 2nd in LA they will never eclipse the lakeshow.
I’ll rather have Brogdon or Melton…need defense and scoring
Malcom Brogdon, DeAnthony Melton. Sign either one.
P on Bradley Beal
Backcourt defense….Luka nor AR can defend. LeBron is 40 so he will run outta gas as usual. I don't want brogdan or beal. I'd trade AR for a two G with size or trade LeBron old ass
Marcus smart
If you can replace kenect with beal. Hell yea
Looks like Beal is going to the Clips. If the Lakers sign Brogdon, you know they are going to trade Reaves for Wiggins.
D'Anthony Melton hands down is the best fa fit that they need to sign ASAP
Beal is signing with the Clippers which was reported before this video even smh
