Hawks have BIG decision on Trae Young looming

Yeah, man. It gonna be crazy. But, uh, y’all know what time it is, man. It’s time for the popup boys to pop up and do this thing, man. And we got some great topics for y’all today, man. Some insight as to things we’ve been looking at with the news with the Hawks. Uh, if y’all didn’t catch yesterday’s show uh about Ronald [ __ ] and his uh future in Atlanta, which I hope it never happens, but y’all know we keep it real. We just try to talk uh things up in conversation so y’all give an idea of what we always thinking cuz we always think outside the box. And in today’s sports world, you got to do that because guess what? Just like life, tomorrow is never guaranteed uh as a professional player. But y’all know who it is. Your boy Antoine Smith. I got my right-hand man with me, uh my boy A1 Forever. And we have another special guest. Um, if y’all don’t know him, if y’all been following me since the inception way back in 2019. It’s been a while. Um, y’all know how long that I wouldn’t even thought of, but I started YouTube in 2019. Oh, okay. I started podcasting in 2014. If they know me from way back then, and a lot of them do, they know who you is, man. My boy Marlon Copen. Uh what’s going on everybody for short? But uh tell everybody you know what’s up before we get started. Hey well just jumping on just trying to get back into the business and um yeah just about to have some fun with it. Oh yeah. Yeah. I appreciate you guys having me on. No doubt we’re gonna talk about Trey Young. But before we do that A1, you know what to do man. Hey what’s going on everybody. A1 Forever Sports. Chris Tipmore and the Hawks Digest as well. Hey, on here, man. We about to have a little Trey Young conversation. You know, some concerning things going on around. But hey, man, happy to be here always, always. And happy to see you guys. So, make sure y’all take off your shoes, leave on your socks, and get ready to relax and enjoy with your boys. Fact, facts, facts. Larry, what’s good, my dude? Uh, Larry always tuning in. But yeah, man. We gonna give y’all our thoughts on Trey Young, man. The Hawks have a big decision looming. sort of the topic uh the headline and that’s what we going to talk about man because uh if you talk about the next five years with the Hawks exactly where are they headed and if you’ve been watching them this off season um already early on Hawks are pretty much head in a good direction I think but a fiveyear $229 million decision is gonna be big for the Hawks my first question to y’all um what kind of decision do they come to when they talk about Trey uh in those five years because we know um with those five years is going to be probably um I don’t know how to put it probably uncertainty uh in some areas because when you talk about coaches the Hawks have went through a good little bit of coaches the last five year five to six years uh you talk about front office change and Landry Fields and ANC uh taking over uh but What do y’all think as far as the future of the Hawks? How is it looking to y’all right now after this off seasonason with the new GM and the new additions? What do y’all What What kind of future do y’all think it holds for them? Man, we’re gonna let our guests go first. Go ahead. Um I I actually like where where the Atlanta Hawks are at right now. I really love I love the transactions that were made. I think Chris Staps is a phenomenal pickup. uh all for a 22nd overall pick basically in George Nang. Um I love Nil Alexander Walker. I I I just love all the depth that we have. I think that right now we could be in contention for at least the next four years with this nucleus cuz pretty much Nikia Alexander Walker’s contract lines up with the core of what we have in Atlanta. I mean, Chris Staps is a a free agent uh after this season, I believe. But even with him being a free agent, if he turns out to be injuryprone or this or he’s just not a good fit, it’s it it is a oneand done and and we can be fine with that. Yeah, that’s true. And uh you think about it, that $30 million uh that’s a very tradable asset as well. Even if uh they sign him to a three or$90 million deal, it’s still gonna be about the same price. That may be a couple of dollars shorter. Uh but if just like Donalo Galinari when they signed him to that $63 million deal uh that contract was very easy to trade and I think the same thing will be true for Porzingis no matter if they uh go with the one the expiring contract or they sign to a new deal. You can always use that contract as a conversation start as far as getting more pieces for your team. And we look at these young guys, you could probably get two or three young guys for that one guy. Uh, so I mean that’s why I’m not worried about the $30 million. A lot of people worry about it, but I see it as an asset. Yeah, it’s an aspiring contract. So, you know, the Hawks have been kind of past few seasons using those to gain advantages. That’s another reason why we were able to get a guy like sign and trade Alexander Walker because you had those exceptions. Mhm. So I mean again you brought in Anzie Anzie Cetle and again like and I said this before you know so me it was just me and Smitty and but but for Marlin for you I had the opportunity just so so happened to have been you know working alongside someone that was previously working with Golden State Warrior with the Golden State Warriors and they was familiar with Anzie Clay and just was talking about how you know talking about just how intelligent he is but he also said it’s not a good thing in business to where you have to bring in another guy to help you do your job. Fact. So, and that’s pretty much what happened. And now, and now you see a year later, well, it wasn’t even a full year, I don’t believe. It might have been, but um Anie Salo, he or an CE, he takes over. And now you have him pulling the strings. And the way that he’s willing and dealing now, it really begs the question on how long have you been willing and dealing, Azie? Like, did you come in the door already saying, “Hey, boom, this over there. Put this over here. We need to take this down because I don’t like how it looks over there.” Were you already coming in the door doing these type of things? Because Landry, where’s your office? I’m moving in. Right. Right. Type type thing. It’s just because the Dyson Daniels for the Je the Jonte Murray trade period, you know. Getting that and getting all those assets back that we did um players even though it was some players we didn’t use, we still was gaining like assets and everything. We still got the draft picks. We got Dyson Daniels, you know, also Larry Nance, who was also a utility guy, but he was definitely I feel like a a influence on from a veteran’s perspective and also just being able to know how to play the game. So like that was a great pickup and you know, salute to him and uh good luck to him in Cleveland. But yeah, man. Um I I enjoy what what they’re doing right now. I enjoy Anzie Sal. I call him Chef Sole with the filt. So, you know, right now he is really cooking. He He’s cooking, fam. He’s cooking. So, I I just gotta give him his credit. And I One thing about it, when you when you do good, I’mma give you your credit. When you don’t, I gotta get you. It just, you know, it’s just at the end of the day, there just no favoritism. It just is what it is. And right now, Anzie, like I said, um if he keeps on going, he’s going to be the most Atlanta’s most favorite GM if we’re just talking about, you know, GM’s uh stance. So, I just like he’s agreed. Matthew, I got a quick question, man. Where the hell is Malta at? I mean, I don’t know. I’m I don’t know. I wouldn’t know. Um Ain’t that in the I want Is that the Philippines? Me being ignorant. I think the Middle East. East. I don’t know. I that’s why I asked. I hope you enjoying your time over there, man. But uh man, Matt Matt, go ahead and let and let everybody know where you at, man. Ple please, please, sir. And thank you. Hey, but we all know I apologize, man. It’s in Europe. Hey, man. We have we have people watching all we have people, my boy M M Dub, he all the way over there in Germany and he’s watching. So, we have people watching from all over the world. So, I mean, and we definitely appreciate it. I’m telling you, like you really could be doing Marlin tell you Marley been know me since I was six. He know math is my is my forte. All the rest of this stuff is okay. Outside of math outside of math but yeah Trey Young let’s talk about math with him with that 220 $229 million deal. And hey we got we guys we got a surprise that we gonna talk about we talked about it before. We just didn’t go in depth with it about another addition that we would look at. Uh but y’all might hate it, but we love it because we talked about it already. But uh 229 million, what what do you think will factor into that decision of Trey Young uh signing long term? Because as I told y’all, I think he’s going to be looking at and I think you got Look, I’mma just get to the point. They got to do it right now. And the reason why I say that if you commit to him right now to five years 22 229 million right now I think that is the best move because if you give him a chance and he’s not signed on a new deal and something goes wrong during the season, he might say, “Hey, I got to back out of this. Uh y’all might have to go in another direction.” So, and I and this is the reason why I said that. I know they’re going to sign him. Every time they brought in a draft pick or a sign and they made a deal, who’s the first person to pick up the phone? I mean, it’s Trey. I mean, but that’s if you are if you are a key intricral piece of the the the team, you expect for them to do that, you know. I I would, you know, and and I think he is a um he’s the model of what you would want your star player to be. Yeah. And and but they’re building the team around him and that’s a good thing because for the first time actually. Yeah. And and as you said, uh you looked at his numbers, 25 and 10. Um he’s averaging that for his career. So, he’s he’s a total point guard, but he took that to the next the next level last year with his numbers as far as assists because he learned to he learned to dish the ball a little better, find who he need to find passing lanes, he worked on all of that. So, right, when you look at how he’s grown as an individual player, um I think he’s at the point now where, hey, I know what to do. I know how to be a leader. I know how to drive this person. I know how to drive that person. And if you look at the roster that they have right now, it fits perfect. So, why not go ahead and make that commitment to him and uh say, “Hey, we trust you. We know you can lead us and we going to get it done sooner rather than later because guess what? Um if they let it linger too long, that might give him time to pause and something may happen in the NBA.” Well, he said, “Well, I can go to that team right there and make them a little bit better because they have a couple more pieces than where I’m at right now.” So, you just don’t give him that benefit of the doubt. Yeah. Uh, I’m going to say the same thing that I said about with Ronnie. If you plan on keeping Trey Young, you don’t allow him to get to free agency. You know, you just don’t do it. U, you go ahead and I’m agreeing with you guys. You lock him up. And I’m not I I will really want to know if he’s already been offered something because the whole thing with the Jordan memes and the time tickings and all the stuff like the crypted tweets that we see it’s like is it is it does it mean something? Does it not mean something? But he did become eligible for that extension I believe two days ago. So um yeah because July 6 was the day when everything becomes finalized. So yeah he’s eligible for it. So, it’s just like, all right, did they try to dial something back and say, “Hey, we’re trying to save some money down the road, maybe take a little less money.” Does that was that where that Jordan meme comes from? Or is it just, you know, just or is it nothing? We don’t know. But it it but at the same time from the timetable of when it’s happening because it’s happening around when it’s time to talk money. So, that’s why it’s just like, “All right, man. This this is a crypted tweak like something.” That’s what I’m feeling like, you know, possibly he may have got offered something that was a little lower and it’s like, nah, not that though. But I don’t know. You know, some Hawks fans feel like that Hulk um that Trey doesn’t even deserve to be paid. And my question is always like, okay, you’re going to replace Trey with who? That’s never a question that they can answer. Then I also ask you, okay, so when are you going to pay somebody? When are you going to try to keep somebody worth a darn in Atlanta for long term? Because we don’t have a we have a history of letting our guys go, our superstars go. The Atlanta Hawks have not had that many superstars in their history. No. You know what I’m saying? Like the last one you really can name that was homegrown was Dominique and we traded him. You know, and we traded him for for Danny Manning who didn’t even stay. That’s another thing. So, you p basically let him walk. You basically let him walk and you didn’t even get anything in return. Like Steve Holman, uh, the voice of the Atlanta Hawks had told us in an interview, the probably one of the worst, if not the worst day in Hawks history when we traded Dominique. So, I’m just like, when are we going to get to the point to where we’re going to start like keeping guys who are worth something in in our cities instead of letting guys teams in markets like LA, like New York, you know, all those different like Miami, all these different uh franchises taking our players like Boston, taking our players that we’ve had we drafted and then they go make something with themselves. You know, I just feel like if you’re gonna keep Trey Young, now is the time to try to keep him and, you know, have influence what may happen with other guys. I have a question for you guys, though. I know we’re still talking about Trey, but this does kind of tie in with him. Dyson Daniels is also eligible for an extension as well. Right now, yeah. Could the Hawks be thinking about how they could possibly extend both right now? Could they make Dyson wait? Do you should you make Dyson wait because his contract will be coming up in about about a season or two as well? I think him and Trey is on I think they’re on the same timeline. I think I think both are entering into a player option. I can give me a second. Keep talking. Keep talking. But yeah. Yeah. If if they’re in the same if they’re in the same rim timetable, then yeah, they could be working on a deal for both of these guys. And it makes sense. Uh, but you got to lock up your superstar first. And if you coming to a point where you’re going to have a problem with Dyson Daniels, um, you throw you throw you throw something to the wall and see if it’ll stick. And what I mean by that, you give him a number, let him talk it over his age. If they don’t agree with it, you up it a little bit until you get to the point to where they can come to an agreement. And um as you seen with Dyson Daniels defensively, what he brings to the Hawks is something that they haven’t had in a long time. Well, that lock down somebody. Go ahead. Fact. Facts. Point of attack defender. Somebody that came in and said what he was going to do and did it. Said he was going to be first team all defense. Did that. Should have been should have been defensive player of the year, but whatever on that. But still came in. Had a significant jump from averaging six points to jumping up to 14 points. all his numbers went up and this guy was a absolute benefit for the Atlanta Hawks. You know what I’m saying? All it really feels like we just robbed the bank when we uh got from the Pelicans when it comes to him because he’s so young, so much room to grow. Says he’s going to come back and win the most improved player again because he’s going to get better offensively now. And honestly, I’m looking at his timetable. We have him on a club option this coming season because of course he’s 22. By the time he turns 23, he will be on restricted free agent. So, the Hawks have to make a decision sooner than we thought. Like a one season sooner than we would think cuz Trey, he can play this season out and then uh what he’ll become a free agent 2027, I believe. So, like uh Dyson, yeah, they are pretty much they’re on the same timeline. We was right. and and and it’s crazy how things work out because we talked about the Jonte Murray and his fit in Atlanta and you move on from him and I agree with both of y’all. I didn’t like the three first round picks, but the way it worked out, we ended up winning the trade because of the player that we got back and Dyson Daniels being young as he is being a lock down defender. And as Chris tell you, I said it, if this guy can just develop some type of consistent mid-range jumper, he could probably be one of the better two guards in the league. Um, okay. Real quick, just to add context to what we were just talking about. So, yes, in 2627 year that’s restricted free agency for Dyson. Sound by me. But, but next season it 26 27 it’ll be player option for Trey. 2728 that’s when he’s unrestricted free agent. And of course we we kind of know that because I know we was talking offline and we was talking about how 2027 that list of free agency is going to be crazy. Whole lot of veterans but Trey Young’s l name is on that list amongst with the Jokices and the Giannis’s Kawas all these different guys is going to be free agents in 27. So that’s another thing too. He’s one of the youngest guys that’s going to be on that list. Yeah. You don’t want to get to that point man. But go ahead. Don’t you don’t I I think the priority would be Trey right now. Um I agree and for a few factors uh number one is that we’re in a golden era of point guards. Like every team virtually has a solid point guard. There are only about three to four teams that that probably like have the opportunity to sign a veteran point guard that they would need and which would be like San Antonio technically, but they would be more in the backup role. Then you have Orlando because we don’t know if Jaylen Suggs is really a two or one, you know, he’s he’s kind of like that tweener. Uh Connley is like 40 years old, you know. Um, and then you have um Toronto that could possibly want a point guard. Other than that, like everybody else has like a solid to um all-star caliber point guard. So, you want to lock Trey up and you’re pretty much are you’re conforming the team around Trey. Um, when it comes to Dyson Daniels, I would pause a moment. And the reason why I say that is because I think that he leads oppensively. There’s still opportunity there. I want to see what he can bring to the table. Uh secondly, we have u if Milwaukee and or New Orleans turn into, you know, a a lottery team, we have the opportunity to replace Dyson Daniels with a good wing that can come in and do the same thing that he does for a lesser rate. So I think we have some we you know doing the same thing though Maron will he be I mean they can come in and play sound defense if depending on who we draft that you know it’s one thing about u like you know sole said um optionality. Yeah, it did. And optionality just pretty much mean having as many options as you can, you know, that you can have out there on the court or in your organization. And you don’t want to tie too much money into someone that could take away your optionality. And and and Dyson Daniels, if he only moves up to like 16 points a game, if you go from six to 14, yeah, that’s a big that’s a big turnaround. But if you’re thinking about it, his play his play was very limited in in New Orleans. They didn’t play him a lot, of course. So you’re going to score just by getting on the court. So he was on the court with Atlanta, but he averaged 14 a game. I would like to see him get to 18 a game. I would like to see the jump shot become a little bit more consistent. I want it’s just a few things I want to see offensively when it comes to him before, you know, I give him the bag. I also want his decision making, even though it wasn’t bad, I want it to get more crisp. I would like for um just like as far as like because he’s going to be backup point guard at some points depends on who’s on the floor. Um which crazy thing about it point guard is actually his natural position. Um found that out as well but they use him as a shooting guard but he is like a secondary point guard option bringing over u my guy Alexander Walker. He brings that as well and if you think about it JJ he’s a point forward. So, I’m just looking at the Hawks and I’m looking at a lot of guys. A lot of guys are able to at least handle the basketball to some degree. Uh, I know Zack, I would like him to get better at that because I know I he’s pretty much like a catch and shoot. A lot of he had a game to where what it was I forgot who he was against, but he had like that 30 36 point game. He only like dribbled like three or four times that game. The rest of it was like kind of catch and shoot. So, I would like to see, you know, improvement uh if it was, but I would like to see more improvement just in the dribbling and the ball handling from Zack because I believe that’s going to take him to another uh part of his game and elevate him because he’ll be able to pick spots, you know, take angles, find he already has like the ability in the frame. So like and especially, you know, with him being able to with him saying that Kevin Durant is his favorite player, I expect him to be watching film and getting into and getting into the motions to try to be able to score like a Kevin Durant. He won’t be Kevin Durant. There’s only one Kevin Durant. But you know what I’m saying? If he can be the best Zachary Rishet that he can in year two, I can take that. You know, especially is taking a step forward in consistency. If he can get like a consistent 15 16 a game, I think that is a good improvement. If that’s a consistency, I got to ask you a question, man. Before you go, Marlin, why is it the perfect time to trade Dyson? Because he’s on a I can tell you why you’re saying that. Because you’re trying to bank on what he just did and you’re going to try to maximize on the opportunity. He’s a restricted free agent and a 26 27 and honestly it’s like okay so you possibly can get something for him most improved player etc. Me personally I’m not trading Dyson Dames that’s somebody who I want to lock up and honestly keep on this team because he’s a veteran he knows the system he he knows how to play the right way. So, and and if he’s making like little improvements, I looking at it like this. I would still like my thing is first first things first, if we can lock Trey up, then we can start moving to anybody else that we want to do. But if we can’t get Trey locked up, then there’s no point and we’re got to have to start worrying about if we got to move Trey. If you just I feel like if you just see the Hawks out of nowhere just pivot to Dyson and it seems like, you know what I’m saying? It’s one of two things. either Trey is going to play out his extension like even as player option and then we’ll see what happens to player option year or Trey is on the way out. But I still think that’s a mistake. Yeah, I feel like you shouldn’t. Yeah, I don’t feel like again with with like Okuna. Don’t let him get to the point to where it’s going to get to free agency if you serious about keeping the player paying what he worth. That’s all I’m saying. Go ahead, Mark. I I ain’t I would hold off a year before I even think about that. Uh as far as as far as trading Dyson Daniels um just because if he does improve he’s going to improve his um value. Um true and right now I am on the AI sole um Kool-Aid. I’m drinking the Kool-Aid. He believes in optionality. I believe in it as well. And I think that you have the biggest thing you really think about it. He’s really just trying to acquire a lot of assets, right? That’s what he’s doing, right? So, if we’re doing that, great. Like, let’s do that. And, you know, like looking at the draft class, I was trying to look at it to see what we have, you know, coming up. Have a lot of wings. A lot of wings. A lot of good wings in this upcoming draft next year, right? That’s a replacement for Dyson, you know, but we we we we can be very flexible right now. We can run big. We can have Trey, we can have um Dyson at the point, Risha, move Jaylen to the three and oh Kong Woo and like we have a lot of options, but then we also have options to trade to make some some adjustments for our organization. I I just love what we have going on right now. I I wouldn’t trade him as of yet. Ask me answer me this either one of y’all, both of y’all. Why does Jaylen Johnson at the three scare me so bad? Even though I know he can dominate like just with his size, athletic ability, I know that’s all there. The upside of courses through all of our roofs. So it’s just like but why does him at the three make me so nervous? I would never want to play him at the three unless we run a big lineup. Only reason I would that’s the only reason I would do that because I think if he plays at the three, he’s going to lose the edge that he has. Because that’s the thing, him as a four, he quick so much more than the other fours can do and he can kind of have them on their heels. You know, he’s kind of like, you know, when you younger and you used to play Madden and you take a defensive end and make them a defensive tackle, if they are 91 as defensive end, you move them to tackle, they are 78. That’s that’s kind of like the thing with him, right? And also, um I hate to say it, but Josh is right. You know what I’m saying? He’s not the best shooter. I think that’s one thing about somebody being at the three. You have to be able to have a consistent shot. And I do feel like Zachary Reese’s shot is more consistent than Zach than uh JJ if we’re just talking about just shooting. If we’re just nothing else, just shooting. Yeah. So, but and but yes, with JJ at the four, he’s already a mismatch against most other fours. and him being at the three, he would be a mismatch for most threes, but he doesn’t have like a dribble drive pullup. Like for example, he doesn’t have he’s more he’s more of a transitional player. He hasn’t have that that [ __ ] [ __ ] that start stop and I can still, you know, say get a buck. Now, don’t get me wrong, we’ve seen him do some things to where it’s just like, okay, JJ, I didn’t even know you had that in you, but that’s not consistent. You know what I’m saying? So, he would have to get consistent with a jumper. I also think he had like he had to get downhill and be able to stop stop pop, you know, saying, pull up with good form and be able to get like a a knockdown shot like that in the mid-range game for me to be able to be like, “Okay, JJ, play the three, you know, and of course back to the basket game, too. I think a back I think him going back to the basket would would definitely benefit JJ with his size and athletic ability. His jumping ability, he can give somebody a bump and then go right up and he’s already like in the vicinity of the rim and can just probably just drop it in there just because he can jump so high. Like I said, the athletic ability. I just it just depends on if he wants to add that to his game because I think he can. I think he has the the the frame for it. He just asked the muscle because I know right now with the with the shoulder tear, you can’t work out with weights immediately. You got to kind of get that band work. Yeah. So, I know once he start lifting weights again, he’ll get some more of that size that he once had because I know a lot of people say, “Oh, JJ’s super skinny now.” But just it can’t work, bro. My shoulder I can’t. No. But it just likes but when he is able to do that, I believe that, you know, JJ, if he wanted to add that back to the basket game to it, I think he’ll take his game a long way. Um, I think he’ll be more versatile. And I think by the time it’s time to pay JJ again, we’re looking at something more than 30 million if he stays healthy. If he if he pans out. Yeah. If he stays. And again, they could do a silent trade at that point. So, you never know. Which is why I’m I’m I’m so happy. I would be happy if they traded him for Giannis. Hey man, winning does cure everything and that’s what we’re looking to do. But can we continue to win this off season? So far we’ve won the offseason. You know, Rockets, okay, you know, you know what I’m saying? Salute to you. You was a playoff team last year. The team that they that basically did the best was the Atlanta Hawks, though, because they improved from a playin team to possibly top four or beyond. All depends on health, fit, um, scheme, quote, coach Schneider, you know. So, it just all that, right? You know, one one thing I want to bring up about the Rockets. Yes, RJ. That thing that thing you remember you Hey, y’all remember when Clint Capella shot the three earlier this last season where it was like at the end of the shot clock and he had to put it up. It looked like it hurt, right? That’s how JJ when he shoots a three, it doesn’t matter if it goes in or not. He looks like it hurts. And I’m not I promise you I love Jayen Johnson, okay? I’m not ragging on Jaylen Johnson. Jaylen Johnson is my guy. I believe that, you know, I’m saying he can help take us somewhere for real. I’m just saying on how it looks to me. I’m not Hey, because I know how people be, man. You just don’t No, no, no. Yeah, it’s like a little hitchy something something there. Yeah, it’s it’s like I said, like it hurts and it just like, you know, but I believe it got to get it got to get smooth. Yeah, it just a little more smooth, a little more fluent fluidity and I just feel like, you know, he’ll be all right. But but uh Josh made a excellent excellent uh comment here. He says he thinks that Risha is the long-term shooting guard and not Dyson. Ah, that’s interesting. I mean, I I I think that um he has a lot of he definitely has a lot of room to grow and he’s growing in the right direction because the second half Reese Shay turned I mean he he he would have been rookie of the year if he started out like that and it would have been it would not have been a competition. He turned into a young Pedro Starkovich the second half for real man Zack was Zack is the only rookie last year that had 30 point games. Yeah. I I like Stephen Stefen Castle but He’s not he’s not he’s not um Risha Shay nowhere near it’s so much upside that Risha could be with his size and his athletic ability. I think something that people don’t talk about a much and enough is how fluent I feel. Now you guys let me know if I’m wrong, but I feel Zack his rookie year he was really fluent with finishing with both of his hands. Like he left or right. Yeah. It seemed like it didn’t matter if he spin left, he can go left, he spin right, he spin right. And it can almost look like it would be somewhat out of control sometimes depending on the play, but he’ll still put it down. And I feel like him being able to basically finish around the rim. Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. Four. Hey, Josh. Four in his rookie year. Yes. JJ only has one. And I remember that game because I believe I was either watching it, I was there. Either way it go, I remember it because I was like, JJ, you going off tonight. You know what I’m saying? I just I just remember that. But yes, JJ only has one. Zack had four in his rookie year. In his rookie year. And think about this in his rookie year and he wasn’t even the number one or number two option when we I personally think that um Zachary Reish Risha is the second most important Atlanta Hawk. I agree with that. That could be I knew that because I remember you said if there’s one guy if I’m corre correct me if I’m wrong there’s one guy that you wouldn’t want to trade for Giannis is Risha you would want to keep Risha if you can get rid of possibly JJ and maybe double O you would do that deal though I would and y’all and y’all made a great point in the conversation we had earlier today about OKC and this is the way that you know the NBA is going to start building teams through the draft. Uh both of y’all said y’all think the the big three error is kapush. And I agree. Uh because if you look at what OKC did, they went and made that move early for SGA. And I know boy the Clippers kicking yourself in the ass for trading him. Uh but Tisk Tisk with Trey Young and Ricochet, the spirit of Donald Sterling, they they’re going to be the main two uh going forward until they find that third piece. I think that’s going to be in the draft as well. Um, could that be a determining factor too at the for the future with Dyson Daniels are going to find that key third piece uh through the draft since y’all said, you know, we building through the draft. That’s what the NBA is going to turn into. Uh, will they use one of these younger guys as a piece to find that next piece through the draft? Of course. Oh, yeah. I can see that. Possibility. Yeah, I agree. I can see that for sure. Especially if we’re talking about with our GM and just keeping our options open, it’s all about, you know, how many options you can muster for your organization. And right now, if you look at it, I mean, he got KP. And my thing is with the thing with Porzingis that I love the most, and you spoke on it earlier, Smitty, is the fact that if he does well, you could still trade him to a team that possibly may extend him if you don’t want to extend him. you know, it just like it’s another asset. It’s it’s 30 million, but yes, it’s expiring contract and it’s a motivated Kristoff’s Porzingis if he’s, you know, said, of course, you know, say performing well. It’s it’s another bargaining chip. That’s basically what I’m saying about, you know, it’s really an is out here playing kind of like chess, not checkers. And regardless, it’s an option. No, I’m just saying that optionality open. and think about this option as well and I saw it in the chat. Um, and Marley said it. What if you don’t want to resign Dyson Daniels and think you got that next piece and like you say there’s a lot of wings coming out next year in next year’s draft. What if one of those guys you can get in next year’s draft can give you slight defense, a good enough defense uh to pass but give you a bigger upside offensively and become that third piece. Uh this is why, you know, this off seasonason, like I said, is going to be the way the next two years is going to be pretty key for the Hawks because if you can get that next piece, uh and the crazy thing about it, Dyson Daniel is still only 22 years old. So, he has years to grow, but what if you decide to not want to pay that? I would say he got at least in the $30 million range right now. 25 to 30. I think the last they talked is like 20 I think it was like around 22 I think. Yeah. I was about to say now now now for Dyson right now considering the fact that he’s only making like 6 million7 million in the next 6 million then I think 7 million in the next two seasons. Right. Right. Jumping him from seven to 30. That’s a that’s that’s damn near like he almost like he made the Allstar game and damn near was in the MVP discussion for for me to jump him from seven to 30. But I understand the market as well. That’s a lot of money. I understand it’s about the market because you look at JJ. What What was JJ making? I can’t I think he was making what? I think he was making like 12. He was a first round pick. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, Dyson was Was he? Yeah. Dyson was a first round pick. He’s in the back in the back end though. No, he was selected higher than JJ. Yeah. JJ was uh number 19. Dyson was like top 10. Dyson was He was nine on 10. I think Dyson was like the seventh or eighth overall pick. Let me see. Man, who’s his agent then? He He was the eighth. Yeah, he was the eighth pick in the 2022 draft. See what I’m saying? That’s what I’m saying. I did not know that No Limit still had a sports agency. Boy, how you making $6 million and you the um and you drafted higher than um JJ? That’s what I’m saying. It’s like, hey, he might got he got Ronaldo Cooling agent. That’s all. Hey, but wait, wait, wait. No, but think about it like this. The reason why also why JJ got paid, the Atlanta Hawks, first of all, they need somebody in that role. They they need like that starter and everything. So, of course, you paid JJ. Also, JJ got more exposure, I believe, than than what Dyson Daniels got. That Dyson was just standing in the corner. At least JJ at least got some kind of burn, more burn than what Dyson got. So you seen him a little more. You know what I’m saying? You see the upside. Not not on that, Chris. When he was in when JJ was in the G- League, he just tore the G- League apart. And you think that you had you had a nice future in that kid. So you can’t risk losing that future. Uh especially with uncertain future of Trey Young at that point. Um you just couldn’t let that go to waste. So they didn’t have a choice but to pay. But this is what I love about NBA contracts. If you sign to a contract and you can find somebody to offload it on, you can do it. So no matter what you sign an NBA player to, as long as that number match up, you good to go. So you can take them kind of chance in the NBA. In the NFL, you can’t do that. But the NBA and Major League Baseball, you can do that, right? And and again, just bringing it back to Trey Young again, eventually guys, we got to pay somebody, okay? Like it can’t be everybody getting lowballed or everybody, you know what I’m saying? Not not getting paid. You know what I’m saying? Again, we can’t control the market, right? Like some of the numbers these guys are getting. Heck no. But at the end of the day, I’m still going to salute them for, you know, making this making the funds, supporting the family, you know what I’m saying? Still, you know, supporting the team that whoever they’re playing for. But end of the day, it’s not us making these decisions. The market is making the decision because there’s more money involved. So, you got to pay I I I don’t want to say for let for lack of better, you got to pay the athletes because I’m not going to say workers. So, you got to pay the athletes um what what the top the what they’re worth. You know what I’m saying? For the most part, like just you look at it like this. Luke Canard got paid 11 million, right? Now, now do a lot of people feel like Luke Canard is not worth 11 million, but you look at the market and you also look at his value. Everyone is looking for some type of shooting. Mhm. This man in the last three years shot 45% from three. You don’t think that’s valuable? You don’t think you’re going to have to outbid teams and try to, you know, team that shot under 35% last year. That is absolutely the best value you can find. That’s what I’m saying, bro. You’re going to have to pay. Like my my thing is it’s it’s almost just like like you want to cheap your way through everything and you’re not going to be able to do that. Shoot. OKC. They just paid SGA. Mhm. You know what I’m saying? Like they like you gonna have to pay. And if they want to keep him, they gonna have to pay Jayd Dub. And Phoenix just paid Devin Booker a boat. That’s gonna be interesting. 75 million for two years. That’s what I’m saying. No, I’m fine with Booker. I’m saying I’m saying Williams is gonna be interesting. Oh, yeah. That gonna be interesting because I don’t think he’s I I don’t know what he’s eligible for, but I don’t I I Yeah, he he doesn’t strike me as a number two guy like that. Like I think they just have they have a tremendous team built around SGAA. I I’m not really enamored with Jaylen Williams as a Robin number two to his Batman. So So you think I think he can be I I really do think he can be a valuable number. I think he’s more of a number three number three option. See, I ain’t going to lie. Think about it. He’s a number three option though. Think about it. When SGA was off, who picked up the team? that one game. You talking about the championship? No, he did it throughout the playoffs. Playoff a few times. He did it throughout the playoffs. Yeah. So, but I would not I would not want to pay my number one. Like I wouldn’t I wouldn’t make him my number one player. No, not right now. I feel like because SGA can take two or three guys sometimes with him, it’s going to leave guys open and available for opportunities and he’s maximizing on it. That that’s probably why that’s probably I actually think he’s I think he’s going to wind up being the third option on that team. I think Cadet will continue to grow and become the better player of the two. He can stay healthy. Chad definitely number two. Definitely. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz you’re going to have to start running some things through him. His athletic ability, his shot making ability. He’s really like, you look at it, he’s really like another version, a younger version of Kristoff Porzingis right now when you think about it. Agree. um that that be able to pick and pop, being able to shoot from anywhere on the floor. Yeah, man. And then you like for the Atlanta Hawks, we really are running like a old school blueprint, bringing in some veterans. Like we brought in Gallo. You don’t think Christophs Porzingis is kind of like our Gallow right now. He is. Yeah. And really, he’s better than Gallow when he healthy. So it’s like, oh yeah, really upgraded all the way around. got you a stretch five who can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. uh shoot long distance threes as well because Kristoffs a few of them threes you know what I’m saying that you see him like he’ll pull up from half court get into that form that thing gone you know what I’m saying then like like so he has range and everything man and you have another element I I can just see I’m not say it’s going to be games to where you just see the Hawks are going to be on fire from three I’m telling you watch you gonna see Trey with the logo you gonna see Kristoffs come in there and say hey I can do that you know what I’m saying I’m telling you it’s going to be footwear every game. I’m just saying go ahead. My bad. Where it’s going to be like that. Yeah. Go ahead. Yeah, that’s true. That’s true. I I think you pay I would pay Trey now because I would not want to get into his player option year and if he makes all NBA you got to pay him even more and all that type of stuff. But the thing about Trey Young, and I and I know he gets ridiculed nationally, but I want people to think about something. If you look at Trey Young’s career, when he’s been at his most optimal and he’s taken the team deep into the playoffs, it’s when he’s had at least two people on his team that can create their own shot. If he if he doesn’t have people that can create their own shot, he’s a play he’s he’s good enough to take it to the playin. when he had Gallow and like Bogey, those are two people that can create their own shot. Lou Williams, Lou Will. Like you look at these playin teams, name me the people on those teams that can take that can create their own shot. He needs at least two other people on his team to create shots. That that was really it. Caris Levert. When you looked at when you looked at who was on our team last year as far as like who can create their own shot. Shoot, man. Carver, Trey and Caris, you know, Trey and Vert. That was it. But now you have a different element, man. Now you Now you have other guys who when Tra T Tracer average about 15 assists. Like if everybody if everybody is knocking down, I think it’ll be around 13. Yeah, I’ll give him 13. That ain’t that a in the chat. He’ll stay where he’s at. He’ll averaging anywhere between uh 9 to 12. I just think that what should improve is his efficiency. He said, “What up, guys?” Yeah, Marlin, don’t sleep Oh my god. You said not the number two right now. Reminds me I think I think he got Rudy Goar beat because I think he his jumper is much better than Rudy Gobear. Oh wow. Yeah, that’s a that’s a stretch on that one. Now, I I do agree he’s not the number two right now because I think he’s had some injury issues and he’s um he’s still trying to grow. He’s like a season behind, but I just say over time he will be the number two because he’s going to be able to pick and roll, pick and pop. He’s going he’s going to bring more options to the table than Jaylen will. But that’s now. I mean, that’s that’s in the future, but right now Jaylen is a number two. Yeah. I think Jaylen got I think he got another three years with OKC at least before he goes on because he’s still They can’t keep everybody. There’s another two. No, no, I know that. Yeah. So, yeah. Oh, yeah. Officially that team. That’s why right. And that’s why like also you look at them and they’ve won a championship already now with this young nucleus. When it’s time to really get into the starting to have to pay people, at least you guys have already won a championship. Yep. And can kind of like build off of that pedigree because Yeah. Eventually. Yeah. You going You just paid Shay eventually. Here come Jdub eventually. Here comes Shet. Here come Hartenstein. You know what I’m saying? Trying to see if you gonna resign him. Who? He’s not coming back. They already drafted his replacement. They did. Yeah. Yeah. That’s a given. That’s a given. They did. But I like they drafted that kid. I said, “Man, I like Hartinstein. He gone though.” Oh, yeah. Yeah. He gone. But but y’all talk about old school basketball. We talk about Trey Young playing the point. Mhm. We talked about a guy that um we think can come in and help the Hawks uh both defensively and what you know what they’re trying to preach with defense. And a lot of people don’t like this guy. I don’t like this guy. But we going to give y’all a reason why we think it makes sense because we had a full conversation about this and how he fit. And that person is none other than Mr. Ben Simmons. And I know y’all gonna say, “But man, he can’t shoot. He can’t score. He’s scared. He’s scared to shoot a layup.” I don’t need him to do that. Yeah. But but what he brings to this team is versatility. And that is the key to the entire setup right now. The player that they drafted, the free agent that they brought in, versatility is key. What does Ben Simmons do? Well, Ben Simmons is a big man that can bring the ball up the court. He can play point, he can play three, he can play the four, and he can play the five in small ball. So, what he brings is versatility. So, one of y’all was breaking it down. One of y’all were breaking it down to a T. I don’t know which one it was, but if you know who I’m talking about, take the floor. I mean, I don’t think I was I know for me, only thing I was saying about it is you’re not going to use him in this scheme for uh to be a shooter. You honestly would you honestly would use him as a ball handler. You’re using him as another defender. I believe honestly you can be able to do switches to where you have him having his back to the basket against smaller guards and being able to use him that way with his ability to still have that point guard ability even if they do collapse. They can he can still kick it out to the shooter who probably be like Luke Canard who probably be N Risha Dyson whomever it is you know Porzingis you know what I’m saying and no matter who else it is he still has that point guard ability he’s still 610 and having him Dyson and N on the floor at the same time now you would be a little bit limited offensively I understand unless the other two guys that I said before Ben you know takes you know better But but the crazy thing is the crazy thing is you talk about scoring. You talk about scoring, he can play on the floor the same time as Trey Young. He could be a three or four or five at the same time. But when you got when you when you put a defensive unit on the floor like you said with Dyson, with uh N and with Ben Simmons, that’s a pretty good lineup if you trying to play catchup ball. So I mean he his versatility just brings so much to Atlanta and We we talk about development for me though y’all like what’s his mental what’s his body I mean all this all this bad and all this like that and all this that’s going on around him at the end of the day I I I like what he could be uh that bro and I get it and that’s why I say I like I don’t like this guy but I I only like him in the in like as our as I said as a rotational person in the uh like number eight on the rotation, eight or nine. That’s why I like I like uh Ben Simmons at I would never ever depend on him as a primary uh catalyst for the team. I I’m not a Kobe Buffkin fan. Um I I I am a little concerned about the non Trey minutes, which is we’ve been like that virtually his entire career and we need to be able to preserve him, you know, down the line. And I think Ben Simmons could do that because he does often he offers optionality, you know, just as um as our general manager always says. Uh so it but if you if you’re talking about him coming in starting or being the six or seven man, no, that that right there I think everyone should be drug tested and and also the mental the mental aspect is a very good point. We don’t know where he’s sitting at mentally. We don’t know if he’s going to come in and be a a model. um basketball player or is he gonna come in and be a wanker? Trying to be Instagram model. That’s the only thing he been doing the past. Hey, and we see Kim Kardashian somewhere in Buckhead, we know it’s is over. That’s what I’m saying, bro. Come on, man. That’s what I’m again. The ability that you want is there as far as defense, second or thirdary ball handler, all that stuff like that. But could you imagine having a depth piece like that? They can play four different positions. The thing about this from the basketball aspect, yes, I can. But from the worldly mental aspect, I don’t know. I Hey, I think you can do that. I think you can do that because if I can get him for that. Has he has he really played the last three years? No, he hasn’t. So, you can probably get money. Clippers last. Yeah. Clippers last. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, yeah, if he’s willing to play for no more than two million, don’t don’t you dare ask me for 2.1, don’t you dare. If you want to play for two million or something like that, then okay, then may maybe we can talk about it. Yeah, I like Hey, man. I’m trying I’m not paying anything. That’s exactly where my head at. Um Yeah. Yeah. Just a rotational guy. Yeah. Just couple minutes. I’m looking at aspect, but yeah, man. That’s it’s just a thought, man. Don’t jump Don’t jump down my throat. I’m just saying. I mean, I mean, we have to think about I mean, Kobe Buff Buffkin is going into year three. I’ve only seen him five times. I don’t know what. And Kobe Buffkin is on the summer league team in year three. And And that is And that is a problem. That is a problem. I mean, he hadn’t developed none. And he injured. He’s pretty much still a rookie. Every time he tries to get going, something goes, you know, so it’s just like he’s essentially still like a rookie when you think about it. Facts. That’s what I’m saying. He had he hadn’t developed a bit. And the re another reason why I like Ben Simmons and I’m going just keep it real and I told y’all this earlier. I just feel like he fits what Quinn Snder like to do when he like he teaches defense with like a root to go bear at center. No one Ben Simmons one of the better defensive players uh in the league. What Raymond Collins got going on, man. What? I’m down here at the bottom. He talking about got PE. Yeah, that ball players at the top left. Yeah, that that that right there is uh Smooth Smitty and he’s known for his passing game. You know what I’m saying? Like he was locked down defender before Doc Rivers and uh yeah, he said Ben don’t shoot threes. Ben can’t shoot threes. Honestly, better shoot three throws. That would probably be the lineup to where you would have Ben Center Simmons being the center, right? And you got you just put shooters all around him. Rish Canard, anybody, anybody and everybody who can shoot a three. You just had him be at the five and be like, “Yeah, you get down there in the post or something.” Rebound. But yeah, we Hey, we we want you have to pay him the whole 7.5. Nah. Uhuh. We can probably give him that higher than two than two million. Two is it? I’m still going to have my five. He still He’s still getting paid from the Nets and the Clippers. So, he got the money that And the Sixers. No, no, no, no, not the Six. I think the Sixers may be finally off the hook, but yeah. Yeah, them Nets cuz I think they traded for his contract and then what got he got waved something and then they got bought out by the Nets, I think. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, that’s what I’m saying. I mean, he still don’t make good money. Honestly, it’s time to try to go to a contender and win something. If you can catch him at the end of the bench like like you know what I’m saying, being a dep piece like that ninth tth guy that you bring off and you just be like, “Oh, that’s right. They do got Ben Simmons.” Like if he’d be like that type thing. No, the Hawks are not interested in Ben Simmon. It was just a thought that we It was a hypothetical. No man, we’ve been talking about Trey Young. We’ve been talking about Dyson Daniels. Like because they’re both extension eligible. And just like we were saying it before, Dyson Daniels, he’s a restricted free agent like next season. And so it’s like what are you going to do with his contract? And then of course Trey is still the head of the snake. you really need to get him done before anybody else because you get Trey locked up. Okay, to Marlon’s point, there are heck there there are so many wings coming out of next year’s draft that you possibly could pivot from Dyson Daniels. So, I mean, I like Dyson, but I’m still open to, you know, what Marlin is saying because he is making a good point. You never know where that number one pick, where that first round pick, should I say, end up next season. You could be out of here. one. It was a couple veterans got traded the other day. A three-way trade. Kevin Love was one of those guys. What do y’all think Kevin Love ends up? Because I know he’s going to get bought out. Well, I’ve heard a little bit um about him possibly coming here and and becoming our uh new uh Larinance. Really? I see that. I see that. Kevin Love in Atlanta. I mean, we do need we need a third big, you know. Um, I think so. Like, is the third big? Say it again. Y’all don’t think that Mo G may be used as a third big. It seems like he may be It seems like he might be going back to um College Park. I I don’t know that I mean, he’s not on the summer league roster, so I mean that that is a Well, that’s a good sign. I like him. I do like him though. And I know right now I did see before we um I seen on Twitter before we started that he was in drills and he was dribbling, you know, trying to dribble. They had him dribbling with one hand. You can tell that he’s still working on it because the ball did try to get away from him a couple times, but he picked it right back up. You know, it didn’t get far. It just was like boom. You know what I’m saying? Let me get back in back into the flow and everything. So, he’s working on it. They got him working. So, I believe that they believe in Mo. Like even if he’s not going to be a five, I like him a lot. I Yeah. And even if he’s not going to be a consistent five, I believe he could be like a utility five depending on the lineups. And he’s definitely going to be playing some four. I know that he’s probably going to be the immediate backup behind JJ. Uh so yeah, that’s what I’m saying. Like maybe Mo G, but and then you got to think about this too. I think they like Jacob Topping too. Yes, I think they possibly like him. Yeah, I I definitely see him getting that uh he getting one of them two-way deals. He definitely gonna get that at least. So, what is Atlanta’s lineup? Starting lineup. We talked about this about a week ago. So I’m looking at Trey at the point, Dyson at Rich Shade at the three. JJ went healthy at the four and uh it’s a toss up 55, but I got to say on Yucka at the end of the day because like we said, you got to preserve position as much as you can because you gonna need him more in the postseason than the regular season. So you got to think about double O unless you bringing another big uh that can you can you know bringing another big he there but y think down below. Yeah, I would love my lineup is my lineimar my lineup is similar and I think that they’re gonna let double O start because Kevin love Walmart greeter possibly you know he would definitely greet them well and see this was he’s he would be one of those guys you would sprinkle in here there with his veteran y’all remember now Martin we talked about right there we we talked about this back in the day uh when Kurt Tums was still in the NBA and he was one of those guys that you would just bring in. Uh if you need a guy to fill in here and there, we need one of those type guys at the at the at the five. So, we can get one of those type guys. And I agree, Kevin Love could be one of those guys. That’s the type of backup you need. That’s a guy you can bring in here and there. Kevin Love about what 36 37 in his mid30. He’s up there. He’s up there. Yeah. So, yeah. So yeah, I could Yeah, that that’s exactly what I would why I would bring in Kevin Love, but Walmart agreed to Yeah, man. I knew he was up there. I preferably don’t want Kevin Love, but I mean I did see I saw that on um I think on Twitter or something. I saw that out there. I wouldn’t want him here, but I mean No, I’m good. I’m good on that. Um it’s so as crazy as it may sound, I I take Chris Paul first. I’m good. I would not be opposed to that. I just I just I’m really concerned about the non-trade minutes. Yeah. I mean, we bro, we have reason to be concerned for the non-trade minutes because at the end of the day, I mean, even though again, Dyson was great secondary. You know what I’m saying? Well, he was good. You know, it’s a secondary point guard, but that’s not necessarily what I need him to do. Correct. You know, I want an actual point guard. I want an actual backup point guard. You know what I’m saying? And if Keen Wallace is going to be the guy that he needs to step up and be the guy cuz I do think he has some ability, if we’re going to have one of these new guys that we brought over um like like in uh in way if we bring him over and he pops, you know what I’m saying? And in the G- League and other places, then maybe he could be a taller guard. I know Rod. No, we waved him. Yeah, we waved. So, but that’s what I’m saying, man. You traded Plowing. So, you have that two-way spot open. You have that one slot open. I think plow got released too though, didn’t he? Yes. Yeah. Yeah. The Suns waved him. So, yes. No. Yes. That’s that’s another look at. Yeah. I mean, I like Plowder, man. I think he has some upside. But we’ll see what happens with that. I mean, he’s a I didn’t know he was as old as he was. Yeah. When I found out how old he was, I was like, “Yeah, he got some age on him.” That’s the thing. That’s the only thing. But yeah, but he still can hoop though. I think he has some I mean you seen what he did against the Bulls. I love that for him that he got that opportunity to do that and showcase that and um you know just take advantage of every opportunity. Hopefully he gets picked up again somewhere and as they want to play and continue his career. One more name, one more name and I just want y’all opin y’all in the chat. Y’all can throw it in there as well. Um Andre Drummond, we know what he brings. Defense rebounding. Would you be opposed to them signing him to a one-year deal? We don’t need him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He’s He’s a traditional big. Honestly, if I could, I would have got Daniel Gaffford before he got uh before he got extended. Yeah. Yeah. But um I feel like he would have been better. He would have been better fit, better motor, better everything honestly. Allaround game. But um Drummond is a bit is a bit too uh too gray hairish for me right about now. I mean, um, optionality for what we’re trying to do, you know, and and and honestly, Dre can’t shoot no three. He can’t space the floor at all. You look at our lineup. We We’re looking for floor spacers and that’s not a floor spacer at all. Yeah, I’ll take I would agree with that because a space is a floor spacer. Drummond is in the paint and he ain’t going nowhere. He gonna be sitting there like a traffic jam on 400. But that then but but I’m just saying for real. But you got Horford. He can step inside outside. You on the road, Chris. Oh, I’m just saying. Yeah, man. I’m just No, I’m good on Drummond. I would Even though Alford is old, he has a better skill set than Drummond. Agreed. Even though he’s older. True. Yeah. Drummond, he he in that DeAndre DeAndre Jordan type category. Yeah, I agree. Oh yeah, you forget about you guys ever heard his um his rap his rap song. He had a rap video. I don’t even want to hear it. It’s actually he actually can rap. You talking about druming or Jordan? Uh Drummond. Wow. Okay. I had enough of Seb and Shaq back in the day. No, no, no. He actually raps better than Well, Sewell can’t rap, but he raps better than he I would say Dame is the best rapper ever as far as NBA players. Dame can go. Yeah, Dame Drummond can rap. He can rap. I’m telling you. Look it up. Larry. Larry. Larry, what it do, man? How you feeling? Yeah, man. But uh I don’t even want to get into that conversation cuz uh look that’ll go in a whole another direction. But before you know if y’all got any last thoughts before we get out of here, y’all can go on the sh right now. Hey man, only thing I’mma say again if you’re the Atlanta Hawks and you’re trying to continue with the direction and the timeline that you’re going with, I think you go ahead and you extend Trey Young. after you extend Trey Young, I think even if it’s midseason and he’s doing well, I think then you start to try to pivot to Dyson Daniels. I mean, I know guys are coming out, but if he’s still doing well for the Atlanta Hawks, you know what I’m saying? Why take a chance on the rookie when you got the real thing right in your face? So, you know, take that option, you know, of possibly just locking him up as well. Have, you know, I’m saying, more core pieces already locked up. Hopefully JJ stays healthy because I believe if he stays healthy or if he stayed healthy I believe we at least win 10 more games at least that you know. So say quick question. Are they holding up the extension due to them trying to get Giannis? Oh that’s a great question. I don’t know bro because Giannis has not officially came out and said I want out. He not gonna say he not gonna say it. They they gonna have to wait till they get the right deal. No, they they get the right deal that they can’t turn down. Yiannis ass gone like the wind. I’m keep it honest with you. I think they want Yiannis more than Giannis want them though. I really believe it because you trade Giannis. That’s everything gone. I mean virtually everything is gone now. Trey Middle only thing they have now is gone. As much as we talk about Trey having deficiencies, uh, for Giannis to be a key player on a championship team, he he has the team has to be built around him, just like how Trey has to have a team built around him. And right now, they don’t have that. I mean, I understand uh that uh uh Turner can step out and shoot threes and things like that, which is really good. And I think him and Giannis comp paired together defensively would be like a nightmare in the front court for slashing players. But but you know it’s like hey I mean he he has to he has to move on you know he he he got to get out of there cuz right now you know I I don’t like to do the media thing when they say I mean I know we all are part of the media but like when they we we focus on the legacy like what tier are you? I mean, the man won a championship as the primary catalyst for a championship team, but you know, yeah, I mean, there going to be certain people you probably put in front of Giannis historically because he only has one championship. So, I I think he has to start thinking about um thinking about getting out of there. And the crazy thing is, I think him and Trey will compliment each other very well. Trey has never had that big man that he can just rely on. If he gets that, it makes his job easier. It makes Quinton Snider job easier. So, I mean, it’s to me it’s no he’s supposed to be a Hawk anyway. Yeah. Facts. Talking about Giannis, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We got back door about that. It’s crazy. I got a video about that, too. But, um, but yeah. Um, hear me out, though. Let’s not get Giannis this year, right? If we don’t get If we don’t get him this year, we ain’t gonna get him. No. Okay. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Let’s say let’s say we don’t get Giannis this year, right? Mhm. 2027 Giannis is a free agent. Okay. I don’t think he’s going to sign any more extensions with B with with Milwaukee. Why not see what this season holds for the Atlanta Hawks, for the Milwaukee Bucks, right? Mhm. If Giannis decides that he wants out even more next year after probably having a dismal season, probably not even making it to the let’s say like they don’t even make it to the playoffs. And Giannis is like, “All right, I did I tried it out, guys. Like for real, for real, I won out next season as far as salary cap and everything would be better for the Hawks. Why not trade for him next season and then just extend him because he’s a free agent in 27 anyway?” Larry just made my point. The hunt war and on top of that I would on top of that I think that the the assets that we would need to to acquire Giannis would scare me. I I JJ gets hurt every year and you know he would be the primary piece of this trade. Exactly. But my if JJ does stay healthy but still doesn’t live up. Let’s say JJ stays healthy, right? But let’s say JJ’s takes a step back hypothetically, which is possible. You know what I’m saying? Let’s say JJ was averaging 19 and 10 before he went down. Let’s say JJ comes back and now he’s 14 and eight. You know, I mean, and that’s being the second option. I ain’t talking about we burying him in the depth chart as a third or fourth or fifth. I’m talking about him being number two. But here’s why you can play with that. You can say he was trying to he’s trying to get back into the the field like you know like how you got to get your game back but if he’s injured he’s just injured you know cuz he tores what labor them you take your labum you got to get it back so you can use that and then maybe Milwaukee will say oh okay he still has the potential so we can work with him now health is the key with him health is the key but and that’s what I’m saying like I feel like that’s another option talking about optionality. I feel like that’s another option that could be looming that we don’t even know about. We could be seeing what JJ could possibly be. Can he stay healthy? Can he produce and all that stuff like that? And then you possibly could go after Giannis next year. Now, I now now I want to I want to comment to Larry about the bidding war. You’re right, bro. We just we just won one with Nquil, right? But we did win one with Nikil. Yeah, but y is a different animal. Giannis is a different animal. But you got to think about this too. At least you wouldn’t be fighting against Western Conference teams because he doesn’t want to go to the West. He’s openly said if he if he was to be traded, he’s staying in the East. He gonna wind up in Miami. So that’s So that’s already cutting out teams. See, and that’s what I’m saying. Miami that could be cool. But I think and the key to getting Giannis to Atlanta would be Trey Young. Correct. You know, um, and and I’m not a hater. I’m actually a Giannis fan, but if we are talking about optionality, he doesn’t quite bring optionality to the offense. Hey, I’m not I’m not complaining with that’s one thing I never argue with about getting Yiannis. Do I want I still would take them though. Yeah, that my point. You still gonna rock with them. But yeah, right now we just gotta figure out how we gonna make this engine work because we got pieces from a challenger and we trying to put it in a dog. We trying to put in a GMC Yukon. So it’s just like how we gonna make these pieces work now. Yeah. like, you know, but could you imagine that transition game, whether it’s Giannis or Trey throwing logs or Trey, you know, spotting Ricochet in the corner somewhere for a three, that transition game would be crazy because you have two viable options with Trey Young pass basketball. It would just be hard to stop, right? And and Giannis is an immediate double team. You know what I’m saying? Just to the chat’s point. Exactly. He’s an immediate double team and he has gotten better with passing, you know, saying, out of the double team because I mean, he sees it so much. You ain’t got you either going to get better or worse. But, you know, but yeah, he can pass out the double team. Yeah. And you also depending on how the offense and how the ball movement and how the moving without the ball goes. You can have a pick and roll to where you’re having a where you’re having Giannis in the pick and roll and you having Trey move without the ball and next thing you know you can kick it out to Trey and he’s shooting a three or you can and you have so many different guys interchangeable in that. Yeah. As well like a uh Nquila Walker, like a Kristoff Porzingis. You got like a Luke Canard. You could possibly be do pick and rolls and have guys moving without the ball and they and everybody collapsing and oh my god, we have two or three guys that are open on the perimeter, but we have to because this guy can’t stay in front of Giannis. We’re trying to put two guys on. We’re trying to put three guys to collapse it. Oh shoot, we don’t left the shooters out there. Now you have a problem. Hey. Hey man, I’m y’all in the chat. Y’all play pass that collection plate around because he he preaching right now. Yeah. And hey, I ain’t gonna lie to you. My my my if anything uh off and on throughout the show, uh uh Josh been the deacon. So I’m I’m just saying I’m just saying because JJ can’t create right now. Yeah, that’s another thing I want to see if better in his defense. If we’re talking about running that floor and being the team that we were the the Hawks were the one of the top two teams in pace last year, we’re talking about keeping that pace and that transition, JJ is your guy because you don’t when he gets downhill, get out of the way or get dumped on. And as me and Chris been talking about the last couple of shows, you get Yiannis right now, the East so weak right now, the easily elevate to a top. I’m not going to say the East is weak. It’s not as strong as the West, but it’s a very competitive conference. The only team that’s probably going to be down is uh Indiana’s going to be down. U I I I don’t think Boston is going to be as bad as people think they’re going to be, but they’re not going to be they’re not going to be the Boston of the past 10 years. Let me ask you this real quick about Boston because when when you say not as good for me, not as good is I think they still can possibly be a playin team. I’m not going to Yeah, you go. on the same page. Okay. Okay. So, yeah. Yeah. Cuz I don’t see them out of the playoffs because I still think they made some moves and they still got Brown. They went and got Simons. Um what I mean I guess they got traded for N Yang or whatever. So, I still feel like they can at least have the pedigree to get and the coaching to possibly get to the playin. But yeah, but God but but you think of Indiana, they have great coaching too. Hallebertton was the thing to make that team go. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah, but Gaston, who who said we were gonna blow up the team? I’m not doing it. I’m not going to do that though. I mean, look, doing that. It’s just a hypothetical. It all depends on It all depends on the deal. It all always depend on the deal for me because I’m not giving away uh certain assets just for Giannis who are who I know he’s proven. I know he’s a former MVP, former champion. We can go down the line on all the accolades for Jiannis Alik Tupo. But at the same time, if it means giving up two, three players, extra picks, etc., etc., that’s stupid. Now, if he was five, maybe six years younger, sure, have everything except for the thing about it is you still got to have a bench depth and uh because injuries play a part. You trade away all your assets and only have Giannis and then don’t have no back. That’s what he’s dealing with in Milwaukee right now. He don’t have no bench. You know what I’m saying? Like when he going against better teams and everything like he doesn’t have a lot of support help. So it’s just like he’s We had a lot of inflated contracts too. I mean they had older guys and those guys had those contracts. We have a lot of young guys that that are not on big contracts. So if you if I was to give if Giannis was 25 years old Oh man. and and you said you want Daniels uh JJ and Okamu and maybe one first round pick for a 25 year old Giannis or 24 year old Giannis. I would definitely do that trade. No problem. Let me ask you trust JJ. Can you really trust JJ with the injury history? Hey, let me ask you this though. Let me ask you this. That’s a Joe Dumas trade right there. Did you see that? Would you Let me ask you this. Okay, so let’s say keep JJ, right? Ask him this. Would he trade Kobe Buffkin and Zachary Reese? If we could just keep JJ, move him down to the three and bring in Giannis, would you do that? I just want to know. I I just want to know. You said earlier, you said earlier you don’t trust JJ at three. I mean, that would I just want to know what what he thinks. I just want to know. Would I would I do that? I want to know I want to know Gaston’s opinion. Or Warren. I don’t know if he put his last name first or what, but I just uh but either way do Gdub, I want you to know I want I want to know. Would you trade Kobe and Zack? Because it’s not going to be just Kobe Buffkin. Okay. Kobe Buffkin don’t make enough and Kobe Buffkin ain’t good enough for Giannis alone. I don’t even think he’s the second best Kobe ever play in the NBA. Wow. No, he’s not. Not right now. Because I had to think about, okay, we got Kobe Bryant. I was thinking, who’s the Kobe after that? And I was like, what? Kobe White? No, Kobe Buffing is not better than Kobe White right now. So, it just like I mean, the upside is there, but if we’re talking about what’s on film, you know? Yeah. Money, moneywise, JJ works. That 30 million that that go that ties into the what 56 million with youngest mate. So, yeah, that’s the only way it’s going to work. Correct. 16. A conu is 16 million. Right. You got 16 million for a Congoo. You got 30 million for JJ. 30. The JJ has to move because of the money. Yeah. That’s just how the NBA works. The salary has to match. Salary has to be within what? 15% of each other, right? Something like that. Yep. Dixon way crazy. He said, “Bro, I’ll take Kobe Johnson over Kobe Buffin right now. saying, “God dang.” Well, Larry, Larry, you wild, boy. Hey, man. Just saying. I I personally would I met a guy named Kobe at BP gas station. He I might suit him up before I suit up Buffkin. Right. Right. No, that’s crazy. He said, “Damn, Reese Shay has upside, bro. I don’t know, man. How How are we ruining this team, though? We trying to think about how we going to get better to get out of the playin.” That’s what we talking about. I mean, if we if we could take that next step by just making one superstar and yeah, we said that big three era is over, but what if you keep at least two of those first round picks and you only have to give one up for Giannis and you can still build towards the future. Oh god, that man said Kobe Stakes over Buffkin. Good lord, what is wrong with y’all people? Get this. Hey. Oh, go go go go to my man Gdub up here, man. He was talking I don’t see no lies. He was talking about Risha real quick. Uh, and I’m I’m not going to forget about you though, Dmac. I got I want to answer yours real quick. Uh, he said, “Damn, Risha has upside, bro. I don’t know, man. I would hate to lose Risha. He would be an allstar uh for many years to come. Giannis is a win now and now is and that’s it.” Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. you and that’s and that go and I’m glad and I did that because I want to roll right back into uh DMax’s comment about the don’t ruin the team building. I’m not gonna lie to you in my heart. What I want to do is I want to build a consistent playoff winner. Like a team that’s consistently in the playoffs, a team that we can have pieces that we can just they uh we can just retool and not have to rebuild afterwards. You know what I’m saying? If we have to send this guy off, okay, we got somebody for him. If we got to send that, you know, I want to have build something sustainable. Getting Giannis is definitely win now. Like you have to be in the NBA finals this year if you get Giannis. That’s the type of move I feel like Giannis is. And I don’t think it’s longterm because at the end of the day, agreed. Realistically speaking, what it’s 2025 now. By 2029, 2030, you see Giannis still in a Hawks uniform? because I don’t Oh, he’ll be done got traded again. So, that’s what I’m saying. Like, like at the end of the day, like I understand what you’re saying, Dmac, but you also have to understand this. We’re talking about a generational type player in Giannis Altho. And we’re talking about somebody that if you can figure it out with him on your team, you possibly can be in the finals, at least a deep playoff run. But for me, if you trade for Giannis right now, you bet your behind better be in the finals, and I don’t want to hear nothing. And if you get Giannis, you guaranteed to have a trade for the next five to six years easily, maybe longer. I personally just would like to go to a Hawks parade before I die. That’s all. I know. That’s right. And one behind a championship, not one for the fans uh fan appreciation week. Correct. We I only go to championship parades, right? Yeah. We we 469 and trust me it’s more behind us than in front of us. That’s all we’re saying. That’s all. That’s what I’m saying, bro. And you don’t know what my thing is. Giannis has proved that he’s an iron man. We know that the championship season with that hyperextension. I thought his behind was done, but he played the rest of that season out. But he also is the same guy that said that leg will never be the same. So that just let you know already. For me, I’m listening to that and I’m just like, “Okay, well, we’ll see what you looking like by 33 then, my guy.” If you know, so I’m just saying. And Giannis at the end of the day, he get like anybody else. G Dub, this is true. He do miss a couple games a year, but this is where the young Asa New comes in. If he’s developing like he’s supposed to and he’s a, you know, he’s a depth piece on this team behind Giannis, he can start at least 10 games. That wouldn’t be a problem. And I want you to think about something too. Like current the way we’re currently constructed, we’re under the cap. We’re under the first apron. Like we’re like seven I think under or something. Seven. Seven and a half. So and then and plus we have um we have a 14 million um trade exception still there. Like we have the tools if like hypothetically we was to make that trade. We have the resources to replenish the team to where we won’t lack so much in depth. In fact, the crazy thing about it, uh, fam, if you wanted to, if and this is hypothetical, nobody said that they’ll go for this, but you think about if we’re talking about trying to match salaries, if you trade JJ and trade Christophs Porzingis right now, you’re you’re exceeding Giannis’s contract and they will have to send you capital back. Yep. And I don’t want nothing off their team. Yeah. I don’t want I don’t I don’t Only thing I like is Kevin Porter Jr. And that’s just because he’s a secondary guy that would come off the bench and probably be like something like that Ben Simmons that you talking about down the bench, but you’ll forget about him and he’ll come in and drop probably 13 points for you. But yeah, outside of that, I mean, outside of Giannis really don’t have anything for me. Yeah, B them team, right? Y’all remember when uh y’all used to go for house and people said don’t eat over their house. Uh that’s what Milwaukee that’s what they looking like right now. Don’t get nothing off that plate. Right. No. And and but again JJ would have to go for those who love JJ. I know. But for the money to work, he would have to be included. He had to be a part of it. Now injury history that’s never been the thing that that bother with injury history. When you love to get rid of that problem, what if that’s going to continue to be a problem? Let that be somebody else problem. That’s all I’m saying. It it’s always been Risha for me. Like it’s always been reish and the capital because my thing is you can give up players. Cool. But at least have some capital so you can still make some other moves as well too. You know what I’m saying? To keep that depth because you need depth in the NBA because injuries happen and you need depth to to help win a championship as well. So I believe you said yeah and Jaylen is from Milwaukee. So you really would be doing him a solid by sending him back home. You know it’s not like you it’s not like you sending him to the Jazz, you know. So, there’s nothing like being injured and being at home. I’m kidding. I I love JJ. I love JJ. Yeah, we just joking, man. We just talking, man. Slaughter nobody, but Well, yeah, man. Look. Yeah, it man. Look, it is what it is. But, uh, yeah, this look this popup show. Look, I’m telling y’all, we can talk about this all day cuz that’s what we do. Uh, but y’all know what to do, man. Uh, Chris, please tell everybody where to find you, man. Hey, man. First and foremost, I’d like to thank everybody who tuned in to this, whether uh via YouTube, whether you was watching from Smitty’s channel, whether you came over to A1 Forever Sports and gave some love to my channel, I appreciate it. You know, I said this was a great conversation. It was supposed to be just strictly about Trey, but you know how things go. Uh we start talking about Dyson and you see we don’t moved around and everything guys. So like this was a great show. Uh thank you Josh and everybody else like I said for tuning in and being a part of this because this was really a round table feeling type of conversation man and just something that need to be had. And we I feel like everyone made great points. Whether you’re on the side of team building, whether you’re on the side of, hey, let’s go get that superstar that you can finally put beside Trey and and really say that you got something like that. But I appreciate everybody coming through, man. For me, it’s A1 Forever Sports on YouTube, of course, the platform. Also, catch your boy on the Hawks Digest as well. Uh thank you for everybody who subscribed to that channel as well, growing that page. Um, I think uh Walter dropped a video earlier. So, y’all go check out and I believe he was talking about something similar like this as well. So, please make sure to check that out. Also, catch me on Twitter, A1 Forever, Instagram, A1 Forever, and the real A1 Forever on Tik Tok again. Great conversation, guys. Uh, shoot, man. Can’t wait for the next one because uh I did see that Kurt Cousins uh or that that thing with on Netflix came out with Kurt Cousins. So, I plan on trying to watch that. Hey, you all know, you may need to keep that notification bell ringing because I already Hey, man. They already know me. If when I look at he going to get roasted like some potatoes on a Sunday cuz uh look, I ain’t I ain’t having it cuz whatever he’s saying, I’m pretty sure I done said it already. Bro, it’s Bro, it’s confirming like just from what I’ve been reading, that thing is been confirming stuff that we’ve been talking about on this channel, on other people’s channel, us collectively, us at the water cooler, us at meet and greets, whatever. It just confirms so much that we already knew. So, yeah, man. Take that look at it, man. I can’t wait to look at it in its entirety. For some reason, for some reason, I just feel like he didn’t tell about that injury because he didn’t want to give up that spot. He wanted to make Bro, and bro, what did I say? I know folks probably like laughed about it or say, man, T being corny right now, but when I said about that that that love and basketball analogy about when she told her, “Never let a rookie take your spot.” That’s all that was. Yeah. That’s all that was, bro. And I’m not We It’s crazy. We talked about that. I know. I know. Midway through the season, we talked about that at least 45 shows in a row at least. So, yeah, he got eight. I’m intrigued to see how much honesty from his perspective, how much honesty was presented to him. He had two eyes, right? But he didn’t have one mouth because But we signed him before we we signed him before the draft. Yeah. No. Yeah. I know. I know. And then but with Dixon Way talking about about you know when he got injured and he was talking about his shoulder but he kept on playing and everything and he’s saying Raheem should have been like bro you got like Raheem you got two eyes. Sit him down. But even though Raheem got two I say that one mouth. It wasn’t mouthively. If we look, if we if we in our living room looking at that on the TV and your ass standing right down the field 30 yard 20 yards away from him and you can’t see it, but you know, you do know that politics can play into that as well. Like sometimes it can it could be coming from the front office front office could be saying don’t pull him cuz if you you know it’s a you know point bro Marlin that’s my point. He didn’t have one. It was collect. If it was just Blank wrote that check. Oh yeah. Right. Yeah. Blank don’t wrote the check. So let’s try to maximize on the investment as much as we possibly can. Yeah. I’m not keep the willing and dealing. So yes, hold on. Hold on. Let’s let’s get this out here and see. And then we got to think about it too. Every This is what we didn’t know because they was building the facility and all this stuff like that. But they were saying that Michael Pennix was already lighting it up whether we and we didn’t see it but everyone else did including Kurt. That man ain’t no way I’m f to let this young pup come in here and take my job cuz he got the ability to. He said about the Drew Brees thing oh whe whether he’s a threat or not. You knew he was a threat. Absolutely threat. The only the only thing that surprised me as far as them still signing Kurt Cousin was they went up to Washington. They they did a private workout in Washington right before the draft and when Arthur Blank signed off said, “I want Michael Penn. Y’all make a way to go get him.” That should have been their sign right there. Hey man, Kurt Cous should even be in the conversation. But he had already signed the contract signed though. But I get it though. We signed you to a two or basically a two-year deal, right? Learn behind you. I had no problem with that. Yeah, but if Kurt had a problem with it, what you know, you knew you knew what that’s a possibility of that. But like I said, that’s I think Kurt his shoulder in Magic City. Nah, I don’t think Kurt Cousin did that. I don’t even think Kirk Cousin stepped foot in that matter. I’m telling you, man. It It was that New Orleans Saints game when Cam Jordan came off the edge and hit him when when they lost that game, Chris would tell you and anybody in chat me would tell you that game was the downfall because I said before that game, if they lose that game, that’s one of them game that can ruin your mindset for Heard itself in Magic City. He had a lot he had a lot on his shoulders. I bet he had a little Let me shut up. I’m married. Let me shut up. Oh, Lord. That’s what I’m saying, man. I don’t know, man. Kurt Kurt’s a pretty family guy. He’s, you know, he goes to great that conversation almost went left real quick. Yeah. Like I don’t I don’t I don’t I don’t see him in Magic City. I’m sorry. I don’t. But hey, man, end of the day again, like I said, man, I’m glad to have this conversation with you guys. We’re definitely probably gonna get into that next. I’m pretty sure. Like I said, I’m going to go watch it. I’m definitely going to watch it. Y’all know where to catch me, man. Smitty sports machine on YouTube tonight. Uh we gonna be on live again, man. Look, tell you anything pop up, we just gonna have it. But we gonna have Fox five sports anchor Miles Garrett on the show tonight at 7 p.m. So y’all make sure y’all tune in, you know, cuz we we gonna have a good time, man. When Miles stops through, y’all know he gonna give y’all the truth. We’re gonna talk Hawks, Falcons, and Braves. So, y’all come into the chat, man. Please come into the chat tonight. Drop those questions and if we see a good one, we might throw it up on the screen, right? So, um, we got some questions for Miles. But, uh, we gonna have some answers for y’all, too. But again, man, y’all know where to catch me, man. Like I said, Smith Sports Machine. Catch me on Twitter, fatboy_21. And during the NFL season, y’all might see me on the NFC South round table Tuesdays at 6 o’clock because uh me and the boys from the NFC South uh panel, we go at it every single Tuesday and we have a blast doing it. So um for my boy Marlin uh Oh, my bad. Did you want to uh I I don’t have anything set up yet, so I’m good. I was just making sure. My bad. My bad. I’m just here. You got to stay real good, though. Yeah. Hey, you got your feet wet today. You got your feet wet today. Real good. Whole hour with 30. Yep. I appreciate you guys. I appreciate everybody in the chat. Hey, y’all go see more Marlin because uh if you join us during the football season, hey, talk Falcon football. We on every single Tuesday and Sunday.
