Dylan Cardwell explains why he chose to join the Sacramento Kings on a two-way contract
All right, couple days of practice in the books now. Now it’s Vegas time. Just how are you and the squad feeling, you know, with uh kind of microwaving team chemistry right now? You know, first and foremost, all going to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You know, this is a great training camp. Um it’s really exciting but really tiring and we have a great group of guys, but also a great coaches are surrounding us. Um they’re very uh very detailed uh very passionate about what they do and I feel we’re prepared going to Vegas. going at each other. I was excited to play in general. You know, uh the pre-draft process for me was grueling because, you know, every team was every game, I mean, every day was a different team and so now I have my own team. I’m on a team again. Uh you know, I’m just really excited about being on the team and so I don’t care who we’re playing. We can put a hard glove truck for all I care. I’m just happy to be on the Sacramento Kings. What uh defense been telling you about what you need to develop? Just energy, man. Just keep being energy guy. My role is energy, rebounding the defense. uh offensive physicality and I try to be the uh the bin walls to this team and so uh I’m a big I’m a big fan of Quincy AC legend in my eyes. You know what I’m saying? So I I try to fill that role. That’s that’s my role. And then as far as like development goes is obviously offensive scoring and um you know free throws. So yeah. What do you guys been talking preaching the most about playing defense? Playing defense. They make them feel us. That’s our slogan is MTFU. Make them feel us. We want to be in the ball. Uh we want to guard the ball 94 ft. What are you uh what are you looking forward to most about Vegas summer league getting in these games? Yeah, you know, a chance to play AAU again. I heard AAOU, you know, is a a small amount of warm-up time for the tournament field. Everybody’s on the side of the slides ready to go hoop and so I’m excited for that and then see my teammates uh you know, Jani Broom and um Miles Kelly, Chain Johnson, Denver Jones, Jay Williams. I’m excited to see my guys again. How has it been working with Devin Carter? Seems like he’s insane. He gets downhill really fast. is pretty quick and so that a big jump for me uh as far as the cause to the NBA level is just the difference in you know speed from the point guard position gets out really well. What are you expecting from the game this week? Oh man, pace I that was the wakeup call this this week you know um coach Dip done a great job of integrating into the team but you know when I was at Auburn one of the slowest paces in the country because we’re so offense and you know here in the NBA I prioritize up and down for more possessions. Uh and so that’s probably the biggest difference for me. Vegas gonna be gonna get a track meet and so he’s in the best shape just kind of like dress rehearsal that we saw part yeah dress rehearsal you know um kind of get our our win know going into the week we have a sermon that long uh we play about a half just get our leg up under us to get the uh jitters out undrafted you get a little bit of choice kind of where you want to go what to you made the kings the right place you know they believed in me um they believed in me they’re the only team that offered me a two-way um you know out of I guess under the free agency and it showed me they had a deep belief in me and you know I don’t really care where I’m at. I just want to go where I’m appreciated and and where they they see a future for me and so I feel like you know Scott Perry uh BJ Armstrong they believe in me and so I’m I’m work every day to to pay them back. What’s been their messaging to you on just kind of what they want to see on and off the court? Yeah, you know professionalism, grit, determination, accountability. Um really just just being being a vet pretty much 23 but I can’t afford coming here like a rookie. I have to be pretty mature and that’s why as my bring my maturity and so you know physicality, toughness, rebounding energy just being the ultimate blue back. Thank you. Hey, good.
