[Music] Welcome in to the Lakers report by chat sports. Jeffrey Cooperstein here with you guys. And on today’s show, taking a look at three Lakers trade targets that they could go out and potentially acquire. We’re going to talk about Matise Dyel of the Trailblazers, Marcus Smart of the Wizards, and IO Dumu of the Chicago Bulls. Let’s jump right into what Anthony Irwin, Lakers insider, had to say. And he said Matis Styel Smart Marcus Smart or Let’s start this over. Sources say Matis Styel, Marcus Smart, though most teams are watching to see if he’s bought out, and IO Dumu and other names the Lakers have had preliminary conversations with teams about availability and price, though no offers have been made. So, this is basically just the Lakers doing their due diligence on potential trade targets. They’re not in advanced discussions for any of these three, but I do think all three of those guys could help the Lakers in some form or fashion. We talked about on yesterday’s show about their need for backup point guard. Iodumu and Marcus Mart both fit that role. Batistball a solid three in Dwing. He didn’t play much last season, but I think all three of them could certainly contribute. More from Anthony Irwin here who says as far as goals go. The Lakers are at least looking to open at least one and ideally a couple of roster spots, plus gain full access to their bi-annual exception with a little room under the first apron, which they will be hardcapped at heading into the season. Ideally, sources say they would accomplish all of that and land more of a natural starting small forward. Ruy Hachimura has played out of position the last couple of years while bolstering a bench that was among the least productive in the NBA a year ago. And I absolutely agree with Anthony Irwin on all of that as well. Rui Hachimura to me is more of a forward. The Lakers do have him playing at three when they play bigger. And that’s where I think Matise Thybel fits into the situation here. And Thybel is a very solid three indeed wing. He signed a three-year $33 million contract with Portland last off season. He’s going in or uh two offseasons ago going into the final year of that deal. And I think Dybel really really solid player. again, didn’t play much last year. He did shoot 43% almost 44% from three-point land, which is something that he’s developed over the last few seasons because he really wasn’t a great three-point shooter until he really started picking up picking it up in 223 when he shot 36 12%. And then last year he shot 34.6 and then this year in just 15 games 43.8. And Thyel is it one of the most elite on ball defenders in this league. Like we showed you, he’s two-time alldefensive team and he could absolutely provide the Lakers with that three and Dwing that they need. He is making 11.5 million this season and he opted into that final year of his deal. So what could the Lakers potentially trade for him? That remains to be seen. But Dyel certainly a name to keep an eye on if you are Los Angeles. Marcus Smart, another name to keep an eye on, the former defensive player of the year, formerly of the Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies. And Smart is a guy who maybe kind of fits what the Lakers are looking for a little more. The only problem with him is his $21 million salary. Smart could absolutely play point guard if they need him to. He’s also an excellent on ball defender and just a tenacious player. Something that the Lakers absolutely could use. Uh Smart a potential trade target for the Lakers. It’s just the salary that is a potential sticking point for Rob Pelinka. We’ll talk get to the rest of the show here in just a moment, but before we do that, we have this dope Lakers hoodie on sale for you guys, courtesy of our friends over at Fanatics. So, go get another one for just 20 bucks right now at chatsports.com/lakers sweatshirt. Marcus Smart last year uh with the Washington Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies. He averaged just nine points a night. This the counting numbers aren’t going to stand out to you when it comes to Smart, but it’s all the intangibles that he brings. It’s the leadership. It’s the defense. It’s the overall just tenacity and approach to the game that the Lakers could absolutely use. Now, is his salary a little too much for what he’s doing? Maybe. But look, this is a guy who won defensive player of the year, knows how to win, went to the finals with the Boston Celtics, has won at every level that he’s played at in his NBA career. And going into what is it I year 10, I think in the NBA, Smart could make an impact on a team trying to win in the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s the 21 million half dollar salary that could be a burden for the Lakers. But there has been rumors out there that he is a potential buyout target and could hit the market as a free agent. And if he ends up getting bought out by the Washington Wizards, I do think he would be the Lakers would be a great option for him with that by annual exception. So keep an eye on Smart. He can play point guard, he can play to and guard at an extremely extremely high level. Iodumu is the final player that we’re going to talk about here on today’s show. and he was an all rookie guard coming out of Illinois. And I like Iodumu a lot. A more true point guard. He is the truest point guard of all of the guys that have been on here. He played in 30 minutes per night for the Bulls last year. Averaged 12 points, four and a half assists. Doesn’t shoot that well from three. He’s more of a downhill slasher, but he can also create for others as well. Dumu, who I I really like as a player to be honest with you. And I think that if the Lakers did end up going this route, it wouldn’t be a bad option whatsoever, was limited to just 46 games last year as well. So, a little bit of an injury concern, but he should be coming into this year fully healthy. He’s going to be making $7.5 million in this next season. So, we’ll see if the Lakers want to go the Iodumu route up as far as a potential trade target. I think at the end of the day, Rob Pelinka is just looking for for upgrades to his roster in any form or fashion. Whether it’s a trade, whether it’s a guy who gets bought out and signs as a free agent, those are all potential options. I think ideally Pelinka would just not want to give up an asset essentially and he would like to sign a guy like Dumbu or a guy like Marcus Spart in free agent free agency who otherwise might not have been available just because given the the nature of the buyout market and where the Lakers are with the apron. They’re trying to get under that first apron so they can use that full by annual exception. And I do think that Smart would absolutely fall under that. Dumu with that $7.5 million salary would have to be traded for it. The Lakers could obviously match that salary there if they needed to. So, there are options for the Lakers here. It’s just a matter of how Rob Pelinka wants to go about clearing those roster spots and then reloading with guys, whether it be free agency or a trade. Look, the Lakers have been relatively quiet here in the off season. They signed DeAndre Aton to that 2-year 16 million deal. They signed Jake Laravia, and that was their mid-level exception, but combined between those two that they got. And then they uh brought back Jackson Hayes. So, look, is there a guy in the summer league like Eric Dixon that could potentially be someone the Lakers look at as an internal replacement for guys on the roster? Do they still go out and trade for Andrew Wiggins? I know those rumors were still out there. And the latest one was that the Lakers actually declined the offer of Rui Hachimura, Dalton Connect, and a first round pick. So, we don’t know if they’re still interested in Wiggins or not, but there are certainly options on the table for Rob Pelinka. So, out of these three Lakers trade targets, who do you want them to trade for? If you think it’s Matis Styel, type T. If you want Marcus Smart, type S, or if you want Iodumu, go ahead and type D down there in the comments section. That will do it for today’s show, guys. Appreciate you for tuning in to the Lakers Report by Chad Sports. If the Lakers trade for any of those three guys on the list, you know where to find it. It’s right here at youtube.com/lakersv.
