All right, my my forces definitely was all black with the black shoe. Yeah, we’re going to switch it up though a little bit, bro. You was doing it right now. And we in nap time now. Yeah, black beater with these, bro. As always, shout out to the puncher. Coming to the league, man. To the association, man. So excited for him. Excited for his journey, man. I let you do the honors. Come on, man. Welcome to the city, big dog, man. All Big East, man. Hell from Memphis, Tennessee, man. We got the one and only Cam Jones in the building. Big dog. Appreciate you sliding on us, man. And welcome to Nap, my boy. Sure. Appreciate that. Appreciate y’all having me. I was just excited to get on here. A for sure, man. I seen you know what I’m saying draft. My boy said Naptown. What’s happening? I Yeah. He really tapped in cuz every like I’m coming to Indianapolis. I’m going to Indiana. Yeah. The city had to stay. All the above, man. But welcome to that, man. Appreciate that. First of all, man, we got to talk about your career, man. You went crazy in Marquette, man. But how did you get there, man? Going crazy in Tennessee. What was that like hooping down there in Memphis, man? Um, man, growing up, Memphis has some good basketball. Um, some good players that some went into the league, some, you know, was good, very good college players. Uh, growing up in Memphis, you know, it was it was fun just being on the floor. Um, being there, I knew I definitely wanted to get away with my college decision. Um, it was actually crazy cuz my high school coach was old teammates with um with a coach who was on staff at Marquette. Okay. and uh he basically ended up hitting him up and then we went went out there for a team camp. Um they recruited me for like a year, man. It took them a year to offer me now. I pretty much committed a week later. I knew that’s why I was want I knew that’s where I wanted to go. Okay. I heard you play center at one point, bro. Yeah, I played center my senior in high school. I was I was the tallest player on the floor for real. We had a big uh we had a we had a bigger football player, but he was a football player. He wasn’t really, you know. Yeah, they on everybody football. I mean, everybody basketball team. He couldn’t hoop for real, though. Uh he wasn’t hoop wasn’t his main sport. He was he had clim for football right now. So Oh yeah. Yeah. He doing his thing. Yeah. He cool. He had to play get here and foul my boy. Yeah. I definitely played the five, man. Did big man drills every day in practice with the skills balls. Uh but it’s crazy how that translated cuz I made I shot hella jump hooks this past year. Like just jump hook and spin jump hooks and you know that it kind of just automatic just from all the work I put in that year. So, did you play one and five in high school though? Did your coach let you, you know, be versatile or Yeah, a little bit. We had a we had a younger point guard that was that was pretty good. So, I he had the ball most of the time. Okay. Okay. That’s crazy. He went from center to actually being a a point guard now about to be a point guard in the NBA. Ain’t no way in hell coach could have told me to play center. No. Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. I’m trying to figure out how you was finessing that, bro. With your game. I ain’t going to lie, bro. I was getting double like in the post, catching a post catch. instant double like got to make it work. Nah, bro. I ain’t going to lie, bro. Swear to God, you my new favorite player, bro. I I didn’t know that, bro. For you to play center and make it to the NBA as a PG, bro, that’s a hell of a journey, bro. I thought he was posting. I thought he was just jumping center and bringing the ball going to the post, right? You might get the post cuz you bigger than everybody. You feel me? I got a smaller guard, but that for you to be a straight center [ __ ] we got this guard. We don’t need you bringing the ball. Yeah, I used to bring it. I brought it up. I ain’t bring it up that much. Uh sometime I get a rebound and take it. But yeah, we coach used to be like four round cam and we trying to feed it. Wow. That’s crazy. I ain’t wait you you got recruited. What about AU? Yeah. Okay. It was different. Bro, you got to look. I’m sorry. I don’t want to get ahead, but you got to explain that. No, AU is different. I played like the the one two AU. Ah, okay. Cuz I’m trying to figure out how the [ __ ] you got recruited. Four decades of hustling. Yeah, we need help. Uh 64 center. I was like, “Yeah.” I was like, “No wonder it took them a year. They ain’t see some [ __ ] playing center.” I Oh, damn. Yeah. It was fun though. It was definitely fun. Yeah. And I respect your mindset, bro, cuz you really locked in. For you to have been like, “Hey, I’m going to Marquette, bro, but you got another point guard feeding me the ball.” I would have had a problem. Yeah. I would have been like, “He got to come off the bench, coach. I’m got to play the five. I’ve not been playing the one, bro. I’ve literally never heard that in my life, bro. We have sat down. I’ve known hella basketball players before you destroy play center in high school and run the one in AU. You different, bro. Appreciate that. But for real, that probably helps you though a lot cuz you probably became a good rebounder. Most definitely. Yeah. You know what I mean? You can see the floor. You can play multiple positions. You probably know one through five obviously. But that probably helps your game expand. Definitely. Yeah, for sure. Especially in the paint, like scoring in the paint, finishing. Yeah, most definitely. Dang, that’s Marquette was the main people on you or did you have any other looks? Um, I had some uh some good mid majors. Uh, okay. But yeah, I kind of I knew I wanted to go high major and I knew it was possible for me. So once Marquel offered, I was like, “Yeah, this pretty much why I want to go.” [ __ ] didn’t offer. Nah. Was uh Penny there? Yeah, he had to be. Yeah, it’s all right, bro. I ain’t tripping. It happens, bro. It happens. Is there a rumor? Is this rumor any true that Wake Forest was interested in you? Uh, I think Wake Forest might have shown interest. They didn’t They weren’t recruiting me for real. Okay. Yeah, don’t worry about it. We make mistakes all the time. Did they give you the ball right away or you had to come in and you know what I mean? Uh Marquette man, Coach Smart was he really let us play. So like he kind of seen what I could do. Yeah. He go man once he seen what I could do a little bit you know he would pull me to the side as a freshman like yo when you get the ball go score. Go be aggressive. And yeah he he like he be talking [ __ ] like like go like scoring his ass Cam scoring him. Yeah. It’s funny. No that’s a player’s dream. Most definitely. He definitely a player’s coach. Like he say that in the games like I had a ball on the dude. He fries his ass. Fry his ass. Like just go. That’s him. Yeah, for sure. Coach for sure. Kill him. I like kill her. Kill her. She don’t want to guard. Yeah. Fact. Hey, that used to be the team team catchphrase before Fitz. Kill her. Kill her, bro. Kill her. That’s dope cuz a lot of people they say well a lot of people that I didn’t met through this [ __ ] they was like when they get to school it’d be different than the actual recruitment. It’s like damn bro this ain’t how you came to my house and told me how [ __ ] was going to be. So for you to have that instant love thus far. Damn one of my kids getting recruited by Marquette. I might have to tell him the truth now for sure. Yeah that’s that’s funny. Obviously man know you went to Marquette for hoop. You know what I’m saying? Boxing. Was that your first love too? Uh no it was my first love. I pretty much picked up love for it being around my dad. He liked to watch a lot of fights, a lot of big time fights. He grew up a huge Mayweather fan, watched a lot of pay-per-views. Yeah, for sure. Um, I pretty much when I got to Milwaukee was able to find a good coach with Coach Angel up there, a good facility up there and, you know, I was just training up there for years. Who you fight your fighter? Uh, man, Errol Spence. Okay. Damn. Yeah, his last fight was rough. Yeah, he got the [ __ ] beat out. Shout shout out to him. Bud went crazy, though. Bud did go crazy. Yeah, I I Yeah, I rock with Spence though. There some good upcom up and cominging young fighters too. Like who who you like? I’m in the box. I like um Motton. I like Abdullah Mason. He’s probably He nice though. Yeah, for sure. I just hope Never mind. He nice. What you hope? I just hope it continue and I hope he has some good I hope he fights some good fighters. You know how it go. Like no no no no shade to Tank Davis and them but they don’t really fight the best fighters all the time. I feel what you’re saying. like like Shakur, he fought some fighters, but he ain’t fought nobody that really nice. Yeah, he waiting on that on that big time fight. At least it seems like it. It seemed like it. Yeah, I like the I like Boots, too, man. Boots is nasty. Yeah. Oh, yeah. You nice in the ring. I’m solid. I just fart a few times. Ain’t nobody ever knocked you out. No, I ain’t never I ain’t never been knocked down yet. Okay. Okay. You a big [ __ ] bro. Yeah, I know. Yeah. In fact, my boy My boy Ev Turner boxing now. We got Oh, yeah. sent me the footage, man. In the ring, he’s like, “Hey, he told me to set up the celebrity match for him.” It’s Lance. Him and Lance. That’s some good ones right there. I was like, “I ask.” Yeah, them celebrity matches make money, bro. For real. For sure. No. Straight up. They the real They the real boxing right now. Boys tapped in with that, man. That Charson White fire at me weak, man. YouTube. The way he jab you, bro. That fight, I know we was going to talk about that, but that was a classic fight. That was a stupid jab ever since, bro. I was when he did the ring war, walked in, so kept going. He might have to be a reoccurring guest, man. He act like us, bro. He might just have to come give us update on the season, man. All right, man. Gladly do that. Yeah, for sure. For sure, man. Obviously, you had a great career, Marquette, man. But like you said, freshman year got acclimated. What was that time when you felt like, “All right, I’m ready now. This my team.” Um, man, right when that uh it took me a while to get over that sweet 16 loss my junior year and man, I’m still getting over how we went out senior year. But, um, yeah, once I got over pretty much, you know, coach pulled me into his office and was like, “Yo, Ken, I’m not going to go in a portal and fish for no point guard cuz I think this something you can do for us at this level for this team.” So, man, um I put in a hell of work over the summer. Um working on my game, watching individual film with teammates, getting our twoman game right. Um learning how, you know, more learning more about them as people, learning more about what they like, what they like to do on the floor. And uh we was able to just, you know, go out there and do our thing. It was a lot of fun for sure. Most definitely. Big East is definitely not an easy conference to play. It was one of your favorite games, one of your hot your favorite moments in college, you know what I’m saying? Obviously, you went crazy. Oh, just in college in general. Mhm. Uh, probably getting the triple double against Purdue. Uh, cuz Purdue we we owe we owed them. Um, they had beat us our my sophomore year. We pretty much had them. We played them here. Gave that game away. Um, then we lost to them in the Maui Classic Championship. That was painful. Very painful. It was It’s a story behind that. But, uh, then yeah, so we played them my senior year and we was like, “Bro, y’all y’all not beating us, bro.” So that was pretty much our mindset for y’all not to be in the same conference. If y’all play them three times, it’s crazy. Yeah, it um we turned it into a home and home after the Maui game. So, my senior year and they going to play him here this year coming up. Okay. Okay. Yes, I watched y’all playing. We got a kid named Ryan. Um Damn. What’s Ryan last name? Conwell. I get that [ __ ] name. Yeah, Ryan Conwell. He a P kid. Yeah, but I seen y’all have a little duel in the garden. A real duel. Yeah. Y going crazy. Uh, I I I hate our opponents, honestly. Damn. I ain’t going to lie. He was fronting that. Yeah, he was going crazy. He had 38. Yeah, y’all both was going uh like 26, a few assists. Okay. Yeah, they had a duel. I was like, damn. That’s that’s I had seen you play before that, but I was watching Ryan. I ain’t going to lie. I was watching Ryan cuz he he little bro. And I was just like, damn. Damn. Hey, they going at it, bro. He was he was not missing, bro. Then all threes. Facts. They was having That was one of your toughest match ups right there. Um this past season, yeah. Uh I I like um Luis or Lewis from St. John’s. He was all right. Yeah. Um yeah, man. We the Big East, like you said, Big East is a tough conference. It’s always tough every year. Like even like Satan Hall only win in the conference was against Yukon. Like it’s really like no game you could just pull up and just BS your way through. Yeah. Obby Madison from Yukon. They only won one game against us. Like Yeah. In fact, they um man that ain’t the first time they lost to Cena, honestly. But yeah, it get they had backto-back champs for sure. Could you play for a coach like that, Coach Hurley? Yeah. Keep it real. Yeah. I feel like he loves his players. I mean, he just a little he got a little screw loose. All coaches got to have a little screw loose, especially in college, bro. Yeah. He different. Yeah. Obviously, I’m not too fond of him, but you know, I’m rocking with Co Smart. No. Yeah. Yeah. I was just saying like that that style like Oh, yeah. Sure. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, he be on one. Yeah. I’m trying to get him to start acting like that. That’s why you ain’t going to do that. You ain’t got that. I’m too cool, bro. I cuss you out, but I I say I’ll make the joke afterwards like, “Boy, I Boy, you sad as hell.” All right, boy. Love you. Love you, boy. You little ugly ugly ugly ass. That’s uh that clip. Uh, Bill was like, um, he was like, “Yo, your stats, don’t worry about your stats cuz they suck, quite frankly.” Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, that’s me. Hey, boy, y’all trash. That’s what I’ve been telling. None of y’all going to the NBA tomorrow, bro. They be like, “What?” I’ll be like, “Y’all, they sophomores. Duh.” Right. That don’t even make sense. Like, none of y’all going to the league tomorrow. They be like, “Du, I’m going to class, [ __ ] You stupid.” Shout out to them boys, man. For sure. For sure. All right, man. Before you leave off Marquette, man, talk about the NIL, man. What was that like that first moment? NIL was crazy, bro. That’s the first time we got some real love about the NIL. Yeah, NIL was crazy. Uh, got his ass. Oh, yeah. You Yeah, NIL was good, man. It was ran It was ran real well at Marquette. um had a very good collective, very good people in uh in that job, in that profession, you know, NIL people to help put your name out there, get you, you know, brand deals or whatever. Um yeah, it was it was love, man. For sure. No, that’s fire. When I seen my boy doing the crush commercial, I said, “Okay, they tapped in now.” Yeah, for sure. Yeah, that was love. That crush commercial was love. It was bad. They they chose a rough time I cut was ass, but they let you get prepared. N Yeah, long as you got it done, man. Yeah, for sure. It was all good. Let me ask you this, cuz Marquette Brand Jordan, right? Yeah. Yeah. What’s that like? Did y’all get pees? Do y’all get special peas? You got PE every year, man. What y’all get? Uh, we got some sixes, some ones, some low ones, some fours, and like some Oh, them fours crazy. 30 like some 38s or something. Them fours. Fours. What colors? The fours and the ones. Uh, I could pull them up. They like They got all Martell colors on. He He going to pull them up real quick. I hope it ain’t the fours I’m thinking about. Yeah, I think it is the PE. They got Is it these fours? I hope it ain’t the fours. I’m thinking of the blue ones. Yeah, I think the yellow the the M on the suede joints. I ain’t seen them. I think it them right there. Yeah, I think it is. Is it them? We got them. Oh, them crazy. Hold on. I don’t know. I don’t know if you might not got them. You ain’t get them. [Music] You don’t know. You going to know if you got them nasty, bro. I ain’t seen them fors in a long ass got tap in man. You got equipment manager Marquette. Take care of my boy if I didn’t man is fire. Tap in for sure. Now that’s a fire part going to a drug school. They be lazy. It is right here. Oo, I did not see them. Yeah, for sure. Freaky the yellow ones right there. Yeah, for sure. Damn. Little little lemon. All right. Yeah, them different right there. different. You know how nasty you got to be to wear a rare P with some loose lemon? That is not That’s O, man. That’s O. Nah, nothing. Nothing. Them right though right there. Yeah, I rock with them. them them fors you talking about. I think a few like a while ago they got them. Oh yeah, them them Marquette them crazy. For the first time ever, we got a all women’s boxing event going down in New York City. I mean a mega event for sure, man. Two title fights in the same night. Let’s go. The crown is yours. Yeah, I need to go feel fire. Yeah, for sure. I’m crazy. Obviously, man, you declare. How was that that pre-draft workout? What was that like, man? Man, my um my pre-draft experience was a little interesting cuz I got hurt in the combine. Um I uh had a grade two uh hamstring like strain or tear. Um sat out for a few uh for a few weeks, then I was able to go to a few pre-draft workouts and uh do like one-on-one shooting. Um, so I was just pretty much there on the sidelines, uh, like giving energy, talking [ __ ] um, just encouraging people. But yeah, it was cool. And then I shot at the end to work out. So it was, it was pretty cool pre-drive process. So kind of similar to you. So you had to last. That was mine right there. I had a sprain my MCL. I had a grade two sprain on my MCL. I had to sit out like that. I didn’t really do no shooting drills or nothing, but very similar to yours. You went to some? Yeah, I went to Philly the day before the draft and uh shot in Indiana. That was it. How many stops you do? Seven. Oh, damn. You went on a real tour. Yeah, real tour. Oh, wow. All right. You in the league now, man. So, what’s what’s something you feel like you can work on on your game? What’s one of your weaknesses? Um, man, first and foremost is getting stronger, getting my body stronger. You know, this dude’s been in the league a long time. bodies are much more mature. Um they know how to train. So, you know, that’s one area making just getting faster, getting stronger, making sure my body’s prepared and just cleaning everything up with both hands, passing u finishing around the rim. Um you know, my lateral movement for defense and cuz you know, we going to be picking up full. So, you know, just constantly working on that, getting reps in that. Um, you know, cuz I’m I’m looking forward to, you know, I’m already doing it. Just adapting to the pace of way and, you know, really embodying that, embodying what that means. For sure. Obviously, we know you got drafted by a fake. I want to ask you that. I ain’t never seen a [ __ ] catch up like this. Hey, why you trying to make it Why you trying to make it try to make it weird? I said, damn. Praise [ __ ] That’s that mom [ __ ] All right. I got All right, there it is. Mike, we got it. King Griffy laughing hard. He back there rolling. My fault. This ain’t about me. No, man. This ain’t no ISO. This about today, man. Griffy, he going in. All right. All right, but we know you got drafted by a face ex where did you think you might go? Did you have any teams that was interested in you or any idea where you might uh got drafted at? Oh, a promise. Uh I didn’t get a promise. Um well, I kind I knew I was going to Indiana um when they traded up to get 38. I had talked that out with my agent. we fig this is a good spot for me to be at and this is somewhere I wanted to go but like I only wanted to well not wanted to I guess preferred I really didn’t care where I went but if you would have had to ask me it was a few teams that I preferred Indiana was one of them for sure so I tried to get him he’s somewhere around that’s a cool way to do it [ __ ] I try to bring it in like a lightning bug that’s two that’s two listen Y’all know I forget we on a That’s too It’s funny because your style play is like perfect for the Patriots obviously, man. You in college getting awards, assist ratio, a team that gets up and down the court, obviously you can make good decisions, man. You watch a team obviously in the finals, man. Just like I can lock in with them for sure. Yeah, most definitely. That’s what I was thinking watching them the whole playoffs like, you know, I rock with this system just how they running and playing. Similar to a lot similar to Marquette. Yeah, you going to get a lot of opportunity. You going to get opportunity. What I was about to say, it’s a big opportunity with Tyrese being out for the season. Uh, obviously they got TJ McConno. They probably got some other guards that we not thinking of right now. I’m not sure who they picked up. They probably picked up somebody in free agency, but you going to have a big opportunity though. It’s hoping for you. That’s one thing about this. I wish you would have came pause on different circumstances. You know what I’m saying? A lot of turmoil going on right now, but you definitely get a chance to play. I love that for you, my boy. Yeah. I’m looking forward to summer league getting to know those guys and building those relationships on the floor. Most definitely. Hey, summer league, man. We was talking about it the OG days. Boys used to hooping that Orlando side gym. That was lowkey the fire in summer league situation. The Pacers used to play in that every time, too. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t. Nah. Everybody in Vegas now. U It’s another one too. Like in Utah still. Utah. Y’all going to Vegas, right? Yeah. Yeah. Y got to be there for boy. Be ready for that weather, boy. Yeah. Banging out there. Boy there two weeks. I’m just slide the gray ones off. Just go to H White, bro. Ordering ordering a multiolor pack of beers is crazy. Kim, you are not 55. A gray beater like draw. Yeah, boy. Still here. He on his way though. I just didn’t know what I wanted to add like what that music scene was like though. Like man, it was like around my junior senior year of high school. Memphis was on a crazy run. Like all these dude, all these people that you just named was kind of on the up up and coming. Uhhuh. Um, that’s all you heard just in in cars riding around throughout the day in the gym. Um, yeah. I ain’t going to lie. When I’m in the gym, I’m more of a like a mellow type guy. Like I play like No cap. I I play Kes in there, Drake. Yeah. Yeah. But when I didn’t have a Especially in Memphis, you know, it was it wasn’t that. So I learned a lot of a lot of songs from that. Um so yeah, I definitely learned about a few artists just listening around. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Chill. He chill. He like us. He like me more. Like they like Well, they like new [ __ ] I don’t like nothing. I love Ro NBA. I’m rolling, bro. No cap for sure. No cap. No cap. He gets no play in my ride. No cap on. It ain’t no disrespect. We was going crazy. Damn. 2002. That was a anthem for a lot of ass whooping. Damn. But 2002, what? Seven, eighth grade. Yep. Dang. Literally crazy times, man. If I went to school, we I went 03. Mhm. You went 02. 02. Yeah. Yeah. Damn. K. Growing up in Memphis, was you a Grizzly fan by chance or what team who’ you rock with? Uh, I was never really a Grizzlies fan. I kind of grew up a players guy. Okay. I used to like Kobe a lot. Um, for sure. Uh, Steph. So, those are my top two players that I really liked. Um, but that grit and grind era was that it was cool. Like that with Tony Allen, them Tony Allen, Zack Randolph, Mark, that big three. Yeah, they turned Memphis up for real. They really did. Mike Connley from Mar City. Yeah, for sure. I heard. Yeah, he from Shout out Mike. They had a crazy run. who you will model your game after or do you see yourself similar to anybody in the league right now? Um, yeah, a little. Uh, for sure. I was thinking like in my interviews I always gave comps like Derek White. Okay. Um, kind of like a uh I was in my interviews I was actually saying them hard kind of guys like that that can play the one and the two do what you need can catch and shoot. Okay. Um, can handle the ball, make the right play with the ball, don’t turn it over. Those are two of my main guys. Got man. That’s a valuable player right now. I ain’t gonna lie. Everybody want a deer Derek White or a Nimh hard. So it’s a Mario game after them. Yeah, you are the ones all them. Yeah. People that can guard multiple positions and play multiple positions. Sure. That was my kryptonite. I lived in Atlanta as a rookie. Yeah. I went out. So I’m telling you, they going to be there in the summer. They going to be there everywhere. So throughout that year, stay in the gym. First to leave. I mean, first to first to get there, last I was I was the first to leave. Don’t be me.
