Brian Windhorst on Developments With LeBron James, What it Means for the Cavs – Sports4CLE, 7/8/25

ESPN’s national NBA analyst Brian Winhorst talking about the back and forth between LeBron James and the Lakers front office. Things are not going well and there’s some national belief that the Cavs could be on the outside kind of waiting to see what happens. Here’s Winhorst on the Lakers and LeBron. LeBron absolutely knows that he will cause a wave with these social media things. So on one hand he is just coming home for the holiday. he is just doing something that he has done numerous times in the past. On the other hand, by doing what he’s doing, he is absolutely poking the bear and, you know, being passive aggressive. And by the way, the Lakers are being passive aggressive back at LeBron. All right, they did not announce his his uh option pickup. So, they’re both acting in the same way. Now, how is this going to get resolved? And my answer to you in full honesty is I don’t know. He elected to opt into that contract to make $53 million. When he did that, he limited his options way down and he limited the Lakers options way down. So if he truly badly didn’t want to be a Laker, he doesn’t pick up that option. Again, it’ll play out and we’ll see. Most likely he goes back to the Lakers. If not, uh, Cavs might be a destination where LeBron decides he’d like to be.

Hear what Brian Windhorst had to say on the LeBron James situation with the Lakers.

  1. He’s not stupid you pickup the option and then piss them off get the buyout you want he has a no trad clause on top of that

  2. Lebron to Boston 😂 .. lol JP ..Bron dont have to rush my guess he will play the first half the season just to see what the team looks like then maybe facilitate the trade b4 the deadline if he feel disrespected .. remember he put JJ in the coaching seat so he has to maintian a good working relationship or JJ could lose out behind Bron .. i dont think Bron would do anything that could affect JJs coaching carrer ..

  3. Last I checked he picked up his 50 something million option with the Lakers. If he truly wanted to come back and win he would’ve declined, let the Cavs make a little room (trading Strus, Okoro, etc), and signed on a “cheaper” deal. The reality is he has no problem staying in LA. He’s not truly playing to win anymore. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind winning but he’s mainly in it for the money at this point his career. He’s got nothing left to prove. Won everywhere he’s been and has achieved all of these individual awards. Just trying to collect $ while he still can.

  4. This Lebron hysteria is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. No contending team, especially Cleveland, wants to gut their bench to sign old Lebron James and his handler, Rich Paul. All James/Paul have done since the 2016 Cavs Championship, is win a fake COIVID title, and ruin the Lakers. No thanks, the Cavs aren't that stupid.

  5. he hates the fact that Universaly MJ is regarded as the goat no matter all individual records /stats and longevity his prime isn't even top 10 .

  6. There are three options once LeBron chose to opt in: LeBron plays for the Lakers, LeBron is traded for a package the Lakers love, or LeBron retires. There’s no way the Lakers should buy him out or trade him for another team’s scraps.

  7. LeBron always been about the money. You be a fool if you don't think he won't get everything he think his worth out of it. 😂 Something like a Shaq.

  8. He'll be retiring as a Cleveland Cavalier it's going to happen he'll be back this season via trade or buyout. Where's theres smoke there's fire.

  9. Cleveland show you would like 30 millions retired for the more at la after this age to can play within his laker is love anymore history get it done really threw lebron🪙😅

  10. As a Cleveland Cavs fan, I do t know if we should get LBJ at this point. Yes, he'd help NOW, but I'm thinking of our future and what we'd have to give up and what we'd get back. We are set up to win now and in future (with certain tweaks) but as much as I love LeBron, he asks and demands too much and we can't afford to break up our core and chemistry.

  11. This dude is stupid, how is it poking the bear when you are going home. The media make's their on story filled with lies especially when it comes to us it's a sad condition them folk's are in and without us around their Future would be dismal, "no more talk"
