GIANNIS to Knicks?! Cole Anthony Buyout Talk + Dink Pate Buzz

Knicks fans, did Giannis just admit that the Knicks tried to recruit him? Cole Anthony could hit the buyout market soon, and one young guard is turning heads before summer league even starts. Let’s talk Giannis, Cole, and the rising buzz around Dink Pate and what it all means for the Knicks next move. So, let’s start with the biggest headline. Giannis Antakmpo live on Show Speed stream this morning just casually dropped this. He said, quote, “A lot of people tried to convince me to go play for New York with the Knicks and probably staying in Milwaukee. We’ll see.” And some Knicks fans think he was just trolling, but others believe he’s laying the groundwork for a future exit and pointing the finger directly at New York. And listen, he didn’t really say it with the laugh. He didn’t sound like he was joking. He sounded like a guy who knows the Knicks are on his radar and knows the league is watching how they’re building this thing now. Should the Knicks be chasing Giannis right now? Probably not. This team just made the Eastern Conference Finals and finally has continuity, something that they’ve lacked for years. You’ve got Brunson, Mikuel, OG, Cat, and Mitch starting a solid bench with Deuce, Clarkson, Hart, Yabuselli, and Hakporti. And chemistry that just carried you through the playoffs. Trading the whole roster for Giannis right now might not even be worth it at this point. And check this out. A fan ran into head coach Mike Brown a few days ago in the airport and asked him, quote, “Are we getting LeBron or Giannis?” And Brown reportedly smiled and said, quote, “I’m not trading my wings.” And if that’s true, that means OG and Mikuel are off limits. That tells you everything you need to know about where this team’s mindset is right now. Still, Giannis saying probably staying in Milwaukee. That’s a long way from definitely. File that one away. Now, let’s shift to something that could actually affect this roster right now, and that is Cole Anthony. He was just traded from Orlando to Memphis in the Desmond Bane blockbuster. And now, multiple reports suggest that Cole is a buyout candidate, and even his father said the same thing. He’s 25 years old. He can score. And he’s the kind of guy who might want a fresh start in a new system. Maybe even in New York. And remember, his father, Greg Anthony, did play for the Knicks before, but do we actually need him right now? We already have Deuce McBride, and now Jordan Clarkson penciled in behind Jaylen Brunson. That’s a pretty guard heavy second unit already, and Cole isn’t exactly the pass first guy, so he’s more of a volume scorer who creates for himself and not a table setter. That’s why a lot of Knicks fans are actually saying, “No more guards. go get a wing or a big instead. Because if this final vet minimum spot goes to a player who can’t even crack the rotation unless there’s an injury, that definitely means that it better be someone who brings something different. That’s why names like Amir Coffee and Chris Boucher keep coming up. Quiet, solid vets who don’t need touches and who can defend multiple spots if needed. So yes, Cole Anthony is interesting, especially if he hits the market. But is he needed? That’s a different conversation. This is the big debate right now among Knicks fans. Should the last roster spot go to another guard or a versatile forward instead? And here’s what we know. Leon Rose is still monitoring the backup market right now according to Ian Begley. But adding Cole or even someone like Marcus Smart or Brogden would make things crowded unless a trade happens. And there is real reason to believe a wing or combo forward would be more valuable to round out this roster, especially someone who would not expect big minutes. The question becomes, what’s more important, ball handling insurance or defensive versatility? And based on how this roster is built, it might be the latter. Now, last thing for today is Dink Pate. And Knicks fans are locked in on this kid heading into summer league tomorrow. He’s a 6’7 point guard with real size, playmaking instincts, and confidence. And multiple sources say that he’s in serious contention for a two-way spot. And let’s not forget James Naji is another two-way contender unless he explodes and earns a full rookie minimum deal instead of Kevin McCuller Jr. And Muhammad Diawara is expected to go back to France for another year unless he turns heads in Vegas. And also Marjan Bochamp might not even be eligible for a two-way. So that’s still unclear. But Dink Pate, he’s different. The buzz is real and fans want to see him show out. So if he puts together a strong summer league, do not be shocked if he gets more than a two-way contract. So here’s where we are. Giannis admitted that people try to get him to the Knicks and the league is watching. Cole Anthony could hit the buyout market, but he might not be the right fit. And fans are split. add another guard or grab a wing and keep the balance. Lastly, Dink Pate is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing names heading into Summer League.
