And he handled it well and probably caught him off guard a little bit but he got that on to point B. They said they were going to run the first play for him and he barely grazes the rim crosscourt. He comes off the swipe because he’s got a very strong lower base so he can stay on balance to still get off a quality look. Here he is on the break. Got the pass and one. What kind of player is Dallas getting in Ryan? I think uh a winner. I think you’re getting a winner. A guy who wants to compete, do whatever the team needs, play on and off the ball. A guy can play make um make others around him better. Is there any part of his game that’s better than yours? No. He’s working. Took the ball with your brother. That was up by six. Under five minutes to go. Flag. What do you make of his handle so far? It’s still early as he draws the foul on Basley. Total command of the basketball. He The reason he’s so good with the ball is because he’s so strong. I This is a guy that averaged 13 and seven in an NBA season for the Thunder. So, he’s obviously got a lot of talent. He just has a smoothness about his game that you love. Acres with a six-point lead. Flag couldn’t turn the corner. Basley well defended and Flag left it up top. What a follow by Sharp. 20 to go. It’s really just something through repetition and focusing on on that wrist finishing going straight toward the basket and not his fingertips sort of pointing off to the left, which is what’s happening when he’s releasing the ball. Interesting observation on the crossover. Flag took it to the rim and got it to fall. Are we playing too too many minutes? I don’t think so. I’m not going to say that. I’ve been loving it. It’s kind of fun to get him to see some real work. Yeah, I think Cooper’s done an incredible job with all the minutes. Uh he’s handled the ball. He’s got viable job for teammates. Uh he’s finished. I think you’ve seen a lot of what he can do in this league. Um I got excited uh to see number 32 get an easy one and it was what a dunk. But again, he’s shown that he can handle the press. Uh, I thought the Lakers uh, set the double team on the first play of the game. I think that’s out of respect. I think it is as well. That was something I was wondering if we were going to see maybe a little bit more of point coupe. Is that something that you’re planning to employ particularly as you wait for Kyrie Irving to get healthy with your squad? Yeah, I think when you have someone like Cooper who can handle, who can shoot, who can pass, uh, you want the ball in his hands and so he’s a great decision maker. He did that in Duke and also in high school. So, he’s get to see it tonight. Uh he’s going to have some mistakes. We all did. We all threw it in the stands once in a while. But I think just his poise as a 18-year-old is is incredible. You got to give his family uh his mom and dad credit and his brothers just understanding. Uh they’ve done an incredible job with this young man. Uh off the floor when you talk to him, you forget that he’s 18. Uh he loves basketball. Uh the one thing I thought he said in his press conference is that he played outside. You don’t hear a lot of kids talk about playing outside. And then also growing up in Maine, it could be a little nippy, could be a little cold. Uh but it just shows his toughness and uh I’m again as a coach, but I think the Dallas organization is very excited to have this opportunity. Half when you compare it to what you saw out of him a year ago when he was just trying to survive out there. That’s not what I saw tonight. He he looks like a guy much more comfortable with what he’s doing. He’s got a plan and a purpose, and you saw a lot of that in the first half. You’re seeing older players come into the league, Tim, and what do you make of that trend? Well, yeah, I do think there’s something to be said for it because I think there’s openings because a lot of the new salary cap land invitations. It’s just a much bigger, quicker athlete he’s going to see at this level. And he’ll make that adjustment. I had a chance to visit with your brother earlier in the broadcast. He’s so excited for the way that you’re playing. Was there any advice he gave you ahead of tonight? Yeah, just be me. You know, he knows what I do. He knows how much work I put in. So, just be me. Come out here, play my game. And uh yeah, that’s it. DeAndre Aton now in the fold. They added a nice role player of Jake Larabia. So, the Lakers feel like they’re going to be much better than they were a year ago. As well as Lewis knocks down the perimeter. Jay played good defense on that wide action. He tried to get it to connect. He missed the jumper. Basisley. Slider got it. Oh, Slider brings the Lakers a little bit closer. Flag with the paint away. Missed everything. I don’t need to tell you that this is one of the most highly anticipated summer league debuts we’ve seen in quite some time. And how would you describe your play tonight, Cooper? Um, not up to my standard. Um, but I’m going to regroup. I’m going be all right. Um, you know, it was new feeling, new environment, new teammates. Um, but you know, the guys held it down. You know, Miles, Ryan, they were amazing tonight. Max, um, and they were great tonight. So, you know, just, you know, they had my back. You know, I didn’t have my best game. Um, but I’m going just keep going forward. How would you say this kind of game compares to the college game? I mean, it’s just a different game. Um, different pace, different feel, different spacing, just a lot of adjustments, but we’ll be we’ll be all right. You mentioned Ryan. What do you think of his game and the ability that he has to control both ends of the floor at point? Yeah, I mean, Ryan’s incredible. Um, you know, the way he can pass the ball, score the ball, do it at every level. Um, you know, he he defends at a high level at his size, so you know, he’s going to have a lot.
