Well, we haven’t had a chance to really dive deep into it, but you all know by now the Spurs have added via trade uh Kelly Olen uh to the roster. Big man, veteran big man. We’re going to talk about that, his impact, why this was perhaps a very key pickup slash addition to the Spurs roster next season. And then, hey, hey, the rookie is gonna make his debut tomorrow out in Vegas. Uh, yeah. Yeah, go figure, right? His debut against the Mavericks, Cooper Flag, number one pick. You can see where they’re going with this NBA. So, we’re going to be talking about that. What should we expect? And if time for a minute, we’ll get into some locked on Spurs fan comments. But yeah, Kelly Wick is now a Spur. Let’s see. Let’s see. I think that’s a pretty good addition. I think my guest is going to agree with me. Let’s go and bring him on. He is Mr. Raul Dominguez of the AP Sports following him on X at Dominguez sinko. You know the Spurs needed to add some size. I was upset, Ro. They didn’t add you though. I was upset. I could I can only go a minute at a time. So they needed someone with a little more conditioning. So again, he is the AP sports writer based out in San Antonio. And again, follow him on X at Dominguez World. Thank you for coming to Lockos First. By the way, I always tell the Friday guests, they always that’s that’s the primo spot because it’s the last episode of the week. It stays on the main page front and center over the weekend and on Ken’s five where it’s also shown. It’s the first thing people will see. So, you got the you got the prime seat today. Yeah. Hope hopefully it doesn’t uh result in the recent By the way, you’re only following following Ariel Wrger yesterday. Sweet lady. I really like her. She’s uh uh she I’m sure she’s going to be around a lot of the Spurs uh games and such and uh looking forward to it. She she she really seems like she’s really uh falling in love with the Spurs and yeah, I know she’s done a lot of research on the Spurs and and you know, she knows you as well, so you know that that’s plus. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She she surprised me with that little uh comment uh before we recorded. She was like, “Hey, you know, Jeeoff, when I was getting ready for the partnership and you know the crossing the tease it on the eyes, all that stuff.” She goes, “I heard about you.” I was like, “What?” She’s like, “Yeah, I heard about you. I really knew who you were.” I was like, “All right, no pressure as we about to hit record to start.” So, what a way to start when I started interviewing her. Um, but yeah, by the way, everybody, I get we’ll talk to Ro in a bit, but we missed it out missed out yesterday’s show is with Ledger CMO, chief marketing officer, Ariel Wr. It’s a really good episode. She kind of let a few things out of the bag. The first thing she let out, Raul, was that any San Antonio artist, you know, like the murals that they paint in San Antonio, she goes, “If they do anything regarding the Spurs and the Ledger partnership, that if they let Ledger HQ know that what they’ll do, and of course, you know, some steps they got to make, but if it’s good, they will actually ask them to send them a print.” And in the French headquarters, they have a wall of Fresp Ledger uh pictures and whatnot. They were added to the wall. So sheep said that. Wow. Yeah. And then uh well need to tell Nick Soup that. And uh Yeah. Yeah. I’m I’m going to let him know. I’m going to let him know. Yes. Yeah. And then the other thing is that she kind of let it out of the bag a little bit. Um Ledger is going to go beyond just the patch. There’s going to be like ingame stuff. So, the closest that we got to it was, you know, how like in baseball, every time somebody throws a strike, there’s a K. You know, the fans put the K. They might be doing something that with Wimy’s blocks. So, nice. Yeah. So, yeah, they better get ready to do quite a quite a few of whatever they’re going to do because he’s definitely gonna I mean, he led the league in blocks and he missed what? He played what? All but 30 games of the season. Yeah, that’s He missed. He missed the last 30 games of the season. I’m sorry. Yeah, exactly. That’s what you just he should have won rookie of the year his rook I mean sorry defensive player of the year his rookie year really should have but nevertheless uh well we’ll keep with the topic of big men uh if y’all missed it and I’m pretty sure y’all did not the Spurs made a deal with the Wizards sending out Malachine Bram and Blake Wesley in a return uh the main piece was Kelly Olenik the big man veteran big man uh from Washington and right off the bat ro let me tell you I thought all right this was close to a fair deal, you know, for everybody involved. You know, from Malachi and Wesley, they’re likely going to get the playing time they deserve and Washington. So, and then the Spurs kind of remove the pressure of so many guards on the roster. And then in return, the Spurs got exactly what they needed, more help with the big man jet. But not just that, a guy that can hit the three shots. All in all, I thought this deal was perfect for the Spurs. I I mean, sure, there’s that three-point shooting they got to address still. But as far as addressing the need for size, man, check mark off that to-do list. Put a gold star on it. A+. Spurs did a good job. Your thoughts about Kelly coming to San Antonio. Yeah, I mean, he’s uh one of the those kind of big men that they used to get uh you know, during their their their you know, the phenomenal run of great playoff appearances. They always have those that kind of guy kind of a Kelly or even a Luke Cornet who they signed recently. just sort of that big man that does the, you know, all the little stuff, you know, sets the screens, you know, is very much a team player, good passer, you know, sort of that fab uh mberto Thiago splitter. Uh that that type of guy who who’s not going to wow you with uh you know, his dominance and and in the paint, but just a guy that’s just steady and uh you know, does all the the little things that make make a team great. Absolutely. Um, again, he is 611, listed at 240. So, he’s a big boy. That That’s exactly the type of size the Spurs needed, and they got it. And what you like about it, too, not only is he a veteran, 12 years in the NBA, his career shooting from the three line, because the Spurs definitely need big men that can space the floor, uh, 37% last year, uh, connected on nearly 42% of his threes. So, that is a big big big check. uh mark for me. And uh yeah, I I mean this is just uh solid solid addition uh to the Spurs lineup here. Uh you know, I I look at this uh situation here and know that it’s beyond just the three-point shooting. You know, last year uh 20 game well split uh last year between the Raptors and the Pelicans. And uh he finished out I got the stats here for everybody. 20 games with the Pelicans, 10.7 points per game, nearly six rebounds per game, and this is what I like about it. 3.6, give him four four assists per game. This tells me he has kind of a allaround game roll. Yeah. And that’s that’s what uh Spurs need. You know, that’s what I was talking about. just sort of that that type of guy that, you know, the kind of the old school guys that they used to have. A guy that is going to mesh well, a guy that’s going to be willing to to pass the ball and it’s going to be looking for, you know, guys that are going to be cutting or guys, you know, maybe they’re down low, maybe, you know, they they double team a guy that can pass to to a guy cutting to the rim or or, you know, pass it out to someone on the three-point line. Uh, you know, Kelly’s just uh he’s just sort of one of those old school centers, you know. Um, and I I think it’s something that the Spurs haven’t had uh uh you know, it’s been a while, you know, since they’ve had some like that. Maybe since the since the days of maybe Fab maybe. Uh they’ve had some some you know, obviously WMBB is a great center. Um you know, but just sort of that guy that kind of kind of played down low and um you know again do some of the dirty work uh you know, which is which is what this team needs. Yeah, absolutely. By the way, those 3.6 6 assists came in 20 games played with the Pelicans last year uh for Kelly and but either however you slice it Raul this is just a good addition to the San Antonio Spurs and we can’t even we can’t ignore this a veteran he’s a 12year veteran of this league uh you know he’s been there he’s done that uh he’s been in the playoff situations before so he’s fully aware what it takes to win and I think the Spurs need that in the roster because it feels like the way they’re trending right now, this team is shaping up to be a playin or a playoff team next season. Ro, your thoughts? Yeah, I mean, we had talked about this in a previous where, you know, I think they have a a great chance of being a a four or a five seed. I mean, people people talk about what the what they they’ve added this off seasonason, you know, Dylan and and Dylan Harper, Carter Bryant, Luke, and and now uh Kelly, but uh to me, the thing you also have to factor in is the fact that they’re getting De’arren back, Dear Fods back, they’re getting Wimby back. You know, they they lost Wimby uh you know, from the all just prior to the All-Star game for the remainder of the season and they lost De’Aran uh you know, shortly thereafter they acquired him. So, uh, to me, you you also have to factor that into this coming season, the fact that, uh, not only are you getting both of them back healthy, uh, they’re going to spend the offseason working out, uh, together, going to go to camp together, and get used to each other. So, uh, to me, when when you think about kind of sort of the additions, uh, to me, that’s that’s that’s a a big addition in terms of the fact that they’re finally going to get to play together, spend a season together. So, uh, you know, uh, that you to me, you got to factor that into how much better they’re going to be. Uh, having having two allstars on the team, uh, that can just dominate, uh, right. They’re going to make everyone else better in addition to to the, uh, you know, the the, uh, the pickups that they’ve had either through the draft or the trade or, you know, free agent side. Absolutely. And one other thing that should be noted about Kelly is that he knows his role. What more can you underscore that and highlight it that for everybody watching right now is he’s a former sixman of the year. The former sixman of the year. He wanted in the 2017 18 season with the Heat. So in that year, Eker, it was a while ago, but he put up 11.5 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game. So again, he just knows know how to fit, how to be effective. And I I So now that the Spurs have this as their big man dep with Wimi, Cornet, and Kelly, that’s deep, bro. I mean, it’s it I should save this for another episode of lockdown Spurs, but this team has proven to have depth nearly at every position now. Yeah. I mean, you you look at what happened uh last season, you know, when uh uh you know, initially when Charles Bassie went down and of course they had that Wimby and Collins and then Bassie and then Bassie went down and then you had the the the Zack trade and you know, Wimby Wimi unfortunately got injured and you know there in the final uh month of the season um you know they were struggling. I mean they had you know uh you know Bismar Bambo Bismax Gibo did a great job but you know he’s he was undersized center he was 69 you know you had Jeremy as a as a backup you know you had sometimes you’d have Castle uh you know guarding either a power forward or a center so I mean they they struggled uh last season uh in the paint you know uh you know there down the stretch. So now you have three big men. Uh you know uh but the other big thing is with with Kelly and with Luke is is uh uh you know you give Wy uh a chance to come out and you don’t lose anything. It seemed like a lot of times when Wimby would leave you know guys uh first of all guys guys would attack the rim uh with Wimi because they wanted to test him but Wimby would always back. But as soon as he he went out of the lineup they went crazy you know because they they finally it was almost like almost like a breath of fresh air. they could actually go to the rim and you know uh without the fear of wimy there. So uh with Luke with Kelly that’s not going to happen as often you know it’s going to be very consistent. The defense is going to be you know very consistent uh when Wimby is not in there. Absolutely. Yeah I think this is a phenomenal a a move for the Spurs just I mean great a you mean uh for San Antonio the exact the type of player the Spurs needed. They need to build around their stars and they’re filling it out with guys that know their role. Cornet, he knows his role. He even joked about it, you know, saying, “Hey, I going to be one-third of Tim Duncan.” That’s great, you know, because he knows he’s not going to be Tim Duncan. Kelly, we proved that already, you know, six man of the year, former winner. Knows his role. He fits in well. You got other pieces around there that are players that going to know their role moving forward. Champenni is going to know his role. So, I think you know his know definitely figured out his role on this team. So, it’s coming together little by little and Kelly just really fortifies that big man depth the San Antonio Spurs desperately needed and they got him. But, you know, unfortunately, you know, it looks like Bassie will probably not be back in San Antonio. Uh, I think Boston put out a photo of him in the Celtics camp, I guess, ahead of the summer league. So, we know he’s like land there. Good for him. You know, the Boston needs help the big man spot, so he’ll do that. Same thing with Malachi and Wesley. They’re going to go to Washington, get some playing time. It just feels like the Spurs are finally trimming the fat, right, and getting the right pieces on the roster. Uh, your thoughts? Yeah, I mean, really liked all three of those players. I like Blake, Malachi, and Bassie, but um, you know, with Bassie, unfortunately, you know, he kept he kept getting injured. you know, yeah, I know the Spurs were really high on him, but you know, it’s difficult when uh, you know, that that you know, these injuries coming, you know, and then they have to try and, you know, uh, fill his spot and then with, uh, Malachi and Blake, you know, they just, uh, it was tough for them to get on the, especially when they kept adding these, you know, these these talented wings. So, um, you know, guards and small forwards. So, I think Blake, uh, and Malachi are going to do well in Washington. I think especially Wesley going to do well. Uh Malachi is just uh you know sort of the to me it’s almost like a not to that level but sort of the Vinnie Johnson type of score. Like I think eventually once he gets minutes he’s going to be a guy that could come off the bench and get you 20 points really quick. You know not not do it every game but you know there’s going to be games sure he’s going to get 20 30 points and uh it’s going to be that type of instant offense. Um yeah, but uh you know it was to me it was just going to be hard for them to get any minutes and uh like you had mentioned Spurs had a gluted what at you know guard and learning zone. So, they were able to turn that into, you know, a big man, which they needed. And Kelly, uh, this is this is just part of, you know, developing a roster. You know, you get the assets and then unfortunately either they don’t work out or maybe, you know, someone else works out a little bit more and then you trade them away. You look at Zack and Trey Jones and, uh, you know, they had to deal as well, you know, to to get De’Aran. So, uh, you know, unfortunately, this is this is part of it. You know, Spurs fans get attached to uh the players understandably, you know, but uh in order to build the roster sometimes you have to get rid of some some popular players in order to bring somebody else in. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Perfect point is to is Mamu and they pretty much parted with him. So, the Spurs seemingly are doing the right things to build this roster for the new season. It feels like the new season starting tomorrow at this rate. It’s still months away. Uh but uh exciting exciting times in San Antonio. Hey, we’re not Dylan Raul. When we get back, uh we’re going to be talking about Dylan Harper. He is set to make his NBA summer league debut uh tomorrow versus Dallas Vegas. We’re going to talk about the expectations and more right here on Locked on Spurs. Hey, but first I want to talk to you about game time. And unfortunately, he’s not making his summer league debut tomorrow, but Dylan Harper is. Man, you know, R, I remember back in the day, the summer league was not a thing. Like, that wasn’t like a destination thing to do in the offseason. I remember going to the Vegas summer league during that those those times. And the NBA was so desperate for any attention they could bring to that that they would let you walk on the court and like sit on the bench with the players just to interview them. Now it’s a whole other story. Uh, have you do you remember going to the summer league before it was a thing to do? No, I never went to any of the summer league games, but I remember it was uh it was so difficult to to get anything hear anything about it. You know, it wasn’t TV, no radio, uh, you know, minimal media coverage. Yeah. You know, back then, back then it was almost um I don’t know. It was almost like, you know, just just sort of the players that that maybe had a chance of of making the training camp making the training camp roster, right? Taking the team. So, yeah, you know, now that you now you have all the top picks that are playing in that and you know, uh, second year players and then some other kind of uh people that have been around the league maybe three, four years are playing now. So, so it’s become a big event now. It really, really has. And you hear that uh tidbit that tickets are go selling for like 200 plus bucks just to like watch a Cooper Flag game or an Edgecomb game or whatever. I mean, it’s it’s become a thing. But hey, speaking of a thing, the Spurs might have a very special player on the roster and that is Dylan Harper. Uh as of this recording, he is set to make his debut, summer league debut that is tomorrow versus Dallas Mavericks. Gee, Ra, I wonder why. I wonder why. Yeah, Cooper fight maybe. So, that should be good thing to see. Finally, Spurs can see uh the number two pick overall. Put that summer league uniform on and ball out hopefully crossing fingers. But Raul, the chance of him playing extended games in the Vegas summer league are very minimal. I got him maybe at a game and a half, two at most. I don’t see the Spurs playing him a lot, but nevertheless, what do you expect to see? What do you want to see out of Harper when he makes his summer league debut? Uh, you know, just kind of just want to see him go out there and just be be comfortable. Um, yeah, you can’t really judge, you know, too much out of the summer league. You remember when Wimby uh played, you know, you know, speaking of of which, you know, when when kind of like you’re talking about Harper, it was like I can’t remember what game it was, but I remember Wimby made his debut. I don’t know if maybe it was against Chad or or someone uh or maybe it was um Miller uh from Charlotte, but it was like he had been out sitting out for a while, you know, they weren’t quite ready to have him out there because of at that time everything that he had been doing, you know, over the summer, but then all of a sudden, you know, he popped up in the the big game that NBA TV was uh you know, highlighting. So, um you know, he and Wimi didn’t do that well. I remember people talking about, “Oh, he’s a bust.” And I remember that. Yeah. thinking like, you know, it’s it’s summer league, you know, give the guy a bad break, you know. Uh so so with with Harper, sort of the same thing, you know, just kind of just getting comfortable. He’s going to be back on the court, you know, just just be comfortable out there. Uh I know he’s going to be aggressive. Uh I know he’s going to be out there having fun. Uh I think with Dylan is just more so than points or assist. I just want to see him being having fun and being aggressive, sort of like what uh Derek White did. I think it Yeah. This his second summer uh out there uh second summer league Derek blossomed where you could see him knowing how you know uh he scored a lot of points obviously but the big thing with Derek was just the confidence that he had you know the he had you know I’d like to see Dylan do the same thing you know regardless of whether or not he can finish you know the the drive or whatever but just that the intent to sort of impose his will. Uh that’s what I’m looking for. Yeah. Exactly. and you know obviously the health you know stay healthy and I think that’s why this bird is going to really monitor his games slashminut out in Vegas starting tomorrow but no I’m excited you know you got the number one pick flag number two pick Harper should be exciting times again if they get extended run but you’re talking about summer league yeah I no matter even if he falls flat in his face tomorrow and just has a poor performance do not read into it why because wasn’t there a time ro where Greg poster tag busted up Tim Duniness on the week. Remember that? Yeah, I think he dumped on him and people were like, you know, like, you know, he’s gonna Yeah, I think people were wondering, you know, because at that time, you know, it was it was during the um uh you know, the the the end of the the defensive era was, you know, uh that was right at the tail end of the defensive era, you know, the Detroit Bad Boys and right, you know, that type of defense. And I think some people were wondering if Tim was g some people wonder if Tim was gonna be able to hold up in that, you know, that that sort of the bit more physical play, you know. Uh and yeah, Oer Tag, I believe, dunked on him and yeah, people lost their mind and, you know, I think I think it turned out pretty well for Timmy. Yeah, I I think it did. Yeah. So that’s why you don’t want to put too much stock in it if Harper does not have a good outing or if Flag outshines him. If he does play uh extended minutes and gets to show his skill set, I want to see uh if he how positionless is he? I would hope to see the Spurs play him at the one, at the two, at the three, and the four. I really want to see him play those positions to get an understanding of how he’ll fit in because remember they have a they still have a log jam at uh guard despite Wesley and Malach gone. Uh, so if he can show that, yeah, he goes, I can play off the ball, you know, or I can lead as a point or yeah, you let me create my own shot as a swingman. I think that’ll be good to see Harper and show the team how he can fit in despite Fox and Castle on the roster. Other thing, too, is I’m curious to see his shot. That’s kind of the knock on him right now is, yeah, he’s a slasher. Yep, he can score, but can he hit the three shot? Can he hit a mid-range? So, those are things I’m focusing on uh tomorrow. How positionless is he and can he knock down that shot? Are you worried about the shot, though heading into his rookie season? No, I’m I’m not. I think I think he’s uh just a really smart player. He’s he’s very savvy. Uh you know, having uh not just you know, his father, you know, Ron who’s uh with the Bulls and his the Lakers, his mom, you know, played uh college basketball, right? she was his coach and and he talks about how his mom uh didn’t let him work on a on a jump shot. I think Cruz first maybe I think I think it was his first year or two playing basketball where all she wanted him to do was to drive uh you know cuz she wanted him to to sort of get used to that then and I you know she knows um jump you know you can build a jumper you can build a jump shot that aggression you know that ability to finish at the hole that’s something that you know that you really have to to work on and uh you know she knew that that he could you know start building a great jump shot and so I know he’s done that. And I I think, you know, if if his jump shot isn’t quite there uh at the start of his career, I know he’s going to work really hard to build that. So, I’m not worried about him uh with his jump shot early. I think I think he’s going to be a better uh shooter than most people think. Uh but however, you know, good or bad he is this season, uh he’s going to be much better second year. is going to keep growing and growing and growing because he this kid puts a lot young man rather puts a lot of work in. Yeah, he he really does. And you know, exciting time for the Spurs. You know, you you see the number two pick out there. Uh you uh you know, I know we’re talking about Harper, but you know, Carter Bryant is like you would play, you know, see him get better. I think he’s off to kind of a rocky start, but again, it is just summer to give the kids some time. Uh but as far as Harper’s concerned, yeah, you know, one thing we heard before they left to the summer leagues, Cali and Al Vegas was during the summer league practice at the at the in San Antonio at the Rock, you heard Carter Bryan say, “Oh, he’s vocal like like Harper is loud.” Not in a like boisterous way, but as far as leadership, setting the tone, the example. That’s another thing I want to see if he’s gonna how he’s going to do that vocal leadership because Carter Bryant brought it up. Now, let’s see it in action. So, I’d love to see that come out even if he plays a game or two. Raul, your thoughts? Yeah, I mean I mean, you know, he’s he’s been a leader and you know, pretty much every level that he’s he’s been on, you know, and then, you know, again, I I keep talking about his his his mother. I I really love his mom. I love her intensity. you know, the fact that she sort of built him up to be a great player and I know that’s something she stressed, you know, for him to be a leader on the court, to be a coach on the court. So, I I think you’re definitely going to see that. And that’s another aspect of him I think that’s going to be uh that’s really going to play well in the NBA is sort of being that leader, that coach on the court. Uh you know, he’s going to yell uh and and sort of be uh correct, you know, uh sort of command the other players, you know, make sure everything’s going right. where whereas Kelvin Kell yells, you know. Oh, yeah. Out of excitement, you know, I think Dylan’s gonna not so much yell, but sort of direct uh people where to go and what to do and and uh you know, I think that’s going to be good for for Wimi. Uh I think it’s going to be good for the Spurs uh in general. Yeah, absolutely. So, exciting times for tomorrow for Spurs fans into the summer league. It’s going to be like basketball all day. Uh today it’s like there’s basketball from beginning to end. tomorrow. It’s like starts at Central time. That is 10:00 in the morning till like 10 at night. So, if you’re missing some NBA action, oh, you’re going to get plenty of that for the next few days. He is Ra Dominguez. Make sure to follow my next at Dominguez Cinco. Do that right now and leave him a comment uh your thoughts on what he has to say about the silver and black on this episode of Lockdown Spurs. We’re not done when we get back, but uh talk about one. We’ll pick out one lockdown spurs fan comment. And we’re back right here on Locked on Spurs joined by Raul Dominguez, the EP Sports. He is on X at Dominguez Cinco. I’m going to follow him right now. So, it’s time to pick out one Lock on Spurs fan comment and we got a good one for you. Why? Because Oh, Mr. Rudy Compost. Mr. Rudy Compos. Uh, so Compost Sweep the League. He was a guest this past week and the topic was wimi and you know how much he does well and you know, we all heard the same thing over and over again. Good defensively, good offensively. But Capo said, “Hey, that’s good and all, but he’s not generational.” Capo does not believe Wimby is generational as of now. Now, why? So, he So, he says it’s because he’s seen sevenfooters on up block crazy shots. He pointed to like guys like Mark because I’ve seen that. He goes, I’ve seen centers as as Wimby that are tall as Wimby if not, you know, shorter at least around there. Hit threes and he pointed to Durk. He pointed to KD. He pointed, you know, pointed guy. He goes, “Wimy hasn’t shown him anything that makes him generational.” So, with that being said, we have a comment from um Okay, I think this is a prank uh topic or like name, so I’m going to skip it. I’m going to say uh Fluff 23. I’m not going to add the middle uh word in there, but Fluff 23 says, “When when did Rudy become a Wimi hater? He said he is not generational. Give me a break. This guy is constantly negative. Wimby is just now at the age Duncan was when Duncan entered the league. He already has an all-star game under his belt, the best defender of the league. He is the definition of a generational player. Rudy is an idiot. So with that being said, Raul, where do you stand? Do you think uh Wimi is generational? Um no no disrespect to Rudy. Rudy’s a great guy. I love Rudy. Um but but yeah, I think I think it’s difficult to say or I don’t know if it’s right to say that he’s not a general generational talent. Maybe he’s not quite one yet, but he will be. I understand what Ry’s talking about as far as you’ve seen sevenfooters, you know, block shots and sevenfooters uh you know uh make three-point shots, but but not in the way that Wimby does it. I mean, I have I’ve rarely seen a a sevenfooter block three-point shots. And not just block not just block them like, you know, he’s guarding him like he he runs to the to the corner and he’s, you know, jumping up. I mean, there there’s iconic shots, photos of him where he’s blocking. Oh, yeah. stretched out, you know, he he’s blocking he’s blocking those shots uh as far as like closing out on on the shooter and blocking them after they released the shot. And that to me that’s just, you know, I I can’t remember a sevenfooter doing that before, you know, being having the speed to close out that quickly, the leaping ability, the length to block those shots. Um and then also, you know, inside where he’s able to Oh, yeah. uh you know it’s it reminds me a bit of you know Hakee Elajin where uh you know guys would would sort of try and fake Hakee out and maybe they’d get him to bite on a fake but he was quick enough to recover and you know uh you know block the shot even after the fake and Wimby does that a lot where guys will do that. Um, and then as far as him making the three-pointers, I mean, yeah, you have guys like Kristoffs and guy guys like that that can make threes, but I’ve never seen anybody do a crossover or do a step step back. You know, he he’s he’s he dribbles like a guard. And then the other thing is, you know, when when uh one of the best dunks I’ve ever seen is, you know, when he had to break away and Derek White, who was an absolutely tremendous defender, was trying to get the ball away from him, he he did a wrap around behind his back and dunked it. Uh it was it was like Manuesque, you know, that Yeah. And to me, that’s just, you know, you, yes, you you see maybe guys do a little bit of that, but his his athleticism, it’s again, he’s like a guard. He’s like, you know, uh he’s like a a Jamal Crawford, you know, you know, just stretched out, you know, just he’s like a Manu stretched out. I mean, so so to me, I think he’s he’s going to be generational in in terms of you’ve already seen this sort of developing where these big men are having, you know, the athleticism of guards. Uh I think with Wimi, you’re going to see, you know, more uh sevenfooters that they they can, you know, sort of do the step thing, you know, where the crossovers, the dribbles, you know, behind the back have that type of touch, have that type of feel. Uh, you know, uh, you look at, uh, you know, Durk, you know, the way Dirk was shoot, you know, a lot of after Dirk came around, you know, a lot of guys big men started doing, you know, that little, you know, step back off of one foot, you know. KV did it. Yeah. KV started doing it. Yeah. Yeah. So, I think when when when’s uh I think you’re going to see more big men uh come in with that same type of athleticism, that same type of focus on being being a you know, almost a guard out there. So, uh, you know, I definitely think Wimby, uh, is going to be a generational talent, you know, uh, if he is if he isn’t one already. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Uh, I again, I agree. I see where Rudy is going at, you know, maybe he’s not generational yet, but the ceiling is going to be generational and we may see that generational label kind of pop out next season. you know, the blood color issue, the blood clot issues are done with. He’s finally taking time out of his world tour. He’s back in San Antonio, you know, already getting ready for the new season. He’s added some size to his frame. Not a lot, just enough. And he has the right pieces around him as far as player and roster positions and all that stuff. So, that’s going to lend to his abilities. So, you can definitely see some monster games more often than not from Wimi next season. And I think at that point he’ll reach the level of generational. Uh but even then you can hear it already coming to Raul. They’ll be like all right women can do all of that right all that. But to be generational you got to win a title. You’re going to hear that. That’ll be the next excuse why he’s not generational because you know generational talent brings titles to a team. Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Shaq uh you know Durk uh Wimpby hasn’t done it. So that’ll be the next hurdle for him. But nevertheless though, he’s on that trajectory to being uh generational I think is going to be next season. All right, thank you for that comment fluff. We appreciate it. Once again, he is Raul Dominguez. Make sure to follow him on Dominguez. Uh what’s going on in your neck of the woods, Raul? What do you have for fans or just sports fans in general? Yeah, you know, sort of you’re like you like you said earlier like uh it feels like the NBA season’s, you know, just right around the corner, you know, but it’s still it’s not, you know, it’s a few months away in October. So, uh, you know, just kind of waiting on that. Like I said, I think it’s going to be a great season for Spurs fans. Uh, you know, you got UTSA football coming up as well. So, y um, you know, just kind of just waiting on on those things right now. And um I I think the Spurs off season is done. You know, other than uh you know, signing officially signing De’aran to a extension, but uh I I get the sense that it’s pretty much done. You know, they’re they’re going to add, you know, uh a player or two, you know, maybe one of the the two-way guys, maybe a Riley or Harrison, you know, get transferred to a conf that Garcia guy in the summer league, man. Smalling out. Yeah. So, uh, but you know, seems like for the most part, I think the Spurs are are done and, uh, you know, ready to to go into this next season. I’m with you, man. I can’t wait for next season. You know, again, if it’s months and months away, but nevertheless, it just feels good knowing that the Spurs are on the right path and should make for an exciting 20 202526 Spurs season. So, I’m looking forward to that. Ro, we thank you as always for taking time out of your schedule to join us here on Lockdown Spurs. Once again, make sure to follow him on X at Dominguez. Lol Fluffhead is just a song about a man. With a fluffy head. 😂 I appreciate the extra discussion. I’ll add that Wemby was also the first rookie on an all defensive first team as a 20 year old, and was arguably the best defender in the league as a rookie. Definitely generational. I do still feel bad about the name calling and hope Rudy saw my apology.
I know we wanna be positive about that olynyk trade, but come on have to talk about how these are two failed first round draft picks by brian wright. And while we got what we needed in the now, thats two first rounders for a 34 year old stop gap big, that could have been christian braun, walker kessler or jaylin williams….
