Yves Missi on Derik Queen, rebounding | 2025 NBA Summer League

Uh we saw a lot of the the stuff you’ve been working on in in the summer. How good was it? Kind of show uh you know some of the stuff your your handles at some of those things in the uh first game. Uh it was good. Obviously just going to get better on the free throw line and then obviously be more focused on my finishing and yeah doesn’t maintain for me. What was it uh for you? What was it like kind of watching uh DQ yesterday? Obviously he struggled a little bit in the first half but kind of finding his way and being able to to make it through in that second half. I mean, I was talking to him the entire game about just I mean, we all know he’s a great player. He can play other to be more patient, more poise. And obviously, there was a lot of time was catching the ball uh on the block and I was saying just just tell the guy who’s in the corner to go side because it’s your world. You just got to stay patient at work. I mean, we know you can score. You’ve been a great player. So, just take your time. Everything be fine. What were your impressions of of Jeremiah being out there kind of running the show? I know he had had the ball in his hands a lot. Jeremiah also great play great point guard. Uh, obviously he showed a little bit on the on the turnovers, but we know he’s going to fix it. It’s just the first game, so nothing to worry about to be honest. And obviously he was making some great reads, finishing through contacts, making some tough basket, just a great player. What do you remember from like your first summer league game of the adjustment of going from college to pro and then maybe um what how much that experience benefits you like going into the second game? Uh yeah, I mean the first game you always you just you just throw out there. You just don’t really know what’s going on and obviously you going to take some time to get used to everything. So yeah, I mean they definitely know what it did wrong and good. So they probably going to fix it for next game. You spent the last season as an NBA starter. What’s the biggest difference you think is between like the actual like NBA level game and then like in in summer league? Uh I would say summer league is a is a lot of I would say most teams is is a lot of selfish basketball. I mean here obviously trying to move the ball more but just player just going oneonone trying to get just spots trying to get a job. So he’s not what I see from summer when I can’t judge a player from summer because he’s just trying to go out there compete and then it’s really hard whenever you rookie just throw out there you don’t really know what’s going on new teammates and then you just have to play through it. But I would say it’s kind of hard. It’s that’s why it’s different from MU level where everything is more you work. You have an entire uh summer I mean training camp. Everything is focused. You know the plays, everything is set. So you know the player you playing around. So it’s kind of different for somebody for sure. You talked about how you want to be more physical in the glass this next coming year. You had a double double yesterday. Um just what is the balance between going for like a contest in a shot versus like you know getting a good rebounding position and making sure you know you’ll be able to uh end the possession that way. I mean I feel like sometimes I should just be able to read and know whenever the guys going to miss it. Sometimes try to bluff more now. Bluff like I’m going just to uh be set for the rebound and obviously block these guys out is the main thing. Yesterday we gave us some offensive rebound. I think they had 20 points off the offensive rebound. So, that’s something you got to do a better job at. And, uh, just push people out of the way and try to get the reb. If I can get it, someone’s going to get it. That’s the main thing. You mentioned um, during the real season, you know, everybody that you’re playing with, you know, their tendencies, stuff like that. How much do you think that affects like you guys had 25 turnovers? It seemed like there was times where somebody cuts or didn’t cut and the pass was there. Um, so I mean, how much do you think that was a factor of just not you just have know each other? I mean, that affects a lot. I mean, we’ve been playing for a while. We you had three days of training camp. I mean you don’t this guy you just put together. They all flowing last week and then you don’t really know each other. You don’t really know everyone game. So this guy they want to play more. Some guys they just didn’t have the opportunity to be on the court. So there’s a lot everyone trying to find your roles kind of. So it’s kind of hard compared to actual season where everyone know his role. Everyone know the plays. Everyone know what he’s supposed to do. I know what Trey, Zion, all these guy want to do. So it’s it’s very different. So, I’m not even worried about Derek or even Jeremiah or Micah. I know they will be fine. You were you were matched up against Ben uh yesterday, but were you guys able to exchange anything in French? Uh yeah, he was bucking myself in French, too. I mean, it was crazy. I got him. We go get back in the real season. It’s fine. It’s all good. But, uh yeah, we were talking French a little bit. Great player as well. The dunk that you got blocked, I know technically it didn’t count, but you you you gave him some stuff after that one. Uh that one I was like, “You got me, I’mma get you back.” Because like it’s the thing like you got me, it’s fine. I’mma get you back at some point, too. So yeah, even though it was a foul from the other guy, but
