As always, like I said, the Nets kick off their summer league season on July 10th, Thursday. Thursday, last night with a 9081 loss to the reigning NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Gary, how you doing, my friend? I’m doing good. Thanks for having me on. This is going to be fun. We’re going to try to do this for for every summer league game, right? Oh yeah, for sure. You already know. Yeah, that’s a good amount of summer league games. It’s It’s gonna be interesting to see how they kind of mix and match the mix and match the rotations over the course of of these games because we only saw a handful of players last night. It’s not like Steve Hetszel, the Net’s assistant coach, who is now head coaching the summer league team for the second consecutive year. It’s not like Steve Hzel kind of, you know, used every single player on his roster. There were a handful of guys in including Quincy Olivari who uh did not play last night. Quincy Olivari was a a G-leeager with the uh South Bay Lakers last year who got some run in LA for a little bit last season. So, it’s going to be interesting to watch over the course as we do these postgame shows. We cover as we cover the Net Summer League for the remaining games, how Steve Hel is able to utilize his entire rotation, who stands out, who doesn’t, how much do we see the rookies? And I think that’s where we have to start, Gary. the rookies uh last night. Breaking down, you know, the overall game, I think Nolan Trayor, the 19th overall pick in the NBA draft this past year, had the biggest impact for Brooklyn. He was the only player who had a plus rating. I mean, you start with his first points of the game. He, you know, accelerates past multiple defenders, goes up and under to lay it in for two. I think it’s clear why this guy got drafted by Brooklyn despite taking Giggor Demon with their first draft pick. He’s an athletic specimen, and I think that’s why the Nets really, really like him. Heck, he told reporters after the game that he actually rolled his ankle in the first quarter and he played through it. So, if he’s playing that well on a rolled, if he’s showing that much athleticism, it’s certainly some promising signs coming from from Trayori. His final line last night, he got the start from Brooklyn, by the way, in 26 minutes, 85% true shooting, three rebounds, three assists, and 13 points while going one of three from beyond the arc. Overall, a really, really nice performance for Treyori, Gary. Um, I know you weren’t very high on the Nets picking Trayor. I know he had top five, top 10 buzz just a few years ago. You didn’t understand it all that much. Has your opinion changed a little bit after seeing Trayor last night. Did he impress you by any measure? Yeah, a little bit. Uh, I watched a lot of tape of him since postdraft. So since I I said I hated the ping, I’ve watched a lot of tape on him and I I just it was one of the guys I I watched tape on him last year and I was like pass, right? Like so I was never really got, you know, because that’s what he was talked about as a top five pick. Um and I was like nah pass. Um I went back. He’s fast. Like I’m not saying he’s going to be Tyrese Maxi, but that’s that’s the upside. That’s the ceiling. You can see the athleticism in him. Like he’s super quick. Uh he’s super twitchy. he can get to the basket. I don’t think he’s fully developed yet. I don’t think he’s um there yet, but there there’s upside in him. You you can see why they think he could be Tony Parkerish. Like, you can see I’m not saying he’s going to get to Tony Parker’s level, but you can see why they drafted him. He he can get to the basket and boy’s quick. Like, he he he’s he’s blow past you quick. Yeah. And obviously, the Nets selected so many point guards in this year’s draft. Three out of their five first round picks were point guards. And a lot of these guys are ball dominant point guards. These guys need the balls in the ball in their hands to, you know, succeed and thrive at the NBA level. But Trayore seemed to be the primary ball handler for Brooklyn last night. Steve Hatel, the assistant coach who’s coaching the summer league squad now for the second year in a row, spoke to reporters following the loss on how all these rookies and all these ball handlers, assuming Cam Thomas is back as well. I’m sure they want to get him some run at the at the point guard position as we saw towards the end of last year. Hzel was asked how these rookies and how these even veterans on the roster are going to be able to coexist in Brooklyn having there be so many ball handlers on this roster. Let’s take a listen. This is the way our roster is constructed. There’s room for every the league is now multiple ball handlers, attackers. If you look at the team that just won the championship, they got Jaylen Williams and Shay Young Alexander that can both put the ball in the paint. We feel like the more people that we can uh have attacking and making plays, the better we are. Really interesting comments there from Hzel, Gary. I like that he gave an analogy to OKC, but at the same time, Jaylen Williams and Shay Al Shay Gilis Alexander are pretty much as good as it gets in the NBA for a one-two tandem. So, I like the analogy, but it’s also you’re comparing the Brooklyn Nets to the Oklahoma City Thunder. I don’t think you can I don’t think that’s a fair comp for Brooklyn. I um I I’m a little concerned to be quite honest on how you know the Brooklyn’s going to spread the ball around between these point guards. It it was discerning to me that you drafted Jaor eighth overall. You tanked to get Jagor. We sat through that all of last year and then Jaor didn’t handle the ball. I like okay he hit two threes which was cool but this is why we got him to play off the ball. I’m just By the way, on a side note, did you see there’s a new pronunci pronunciation for his name? Doyman. Doyman is actually how you say his name. I’ll try to get used to it. It’s Yeah, it it doesn’t look anything like that. So, I’m I’m letting you guys know ahead of time. I’m going to struggle with that. Yeah, because it doesn’t look like that at all. Uh I had to listen to the clip like four times yesterday just took me all three plus years to get Robert Sal right. Uh, I I can’t promise that. Yay. Yaore. I don’t even know how we’re saying his last name. Dyman. Doyman is we should say it. Jaor Dyman. I said to Eric Slady yesterday. He was saying it differently. It’s like this is going to become an issue. Like no one can get this right. This is uh Yeah, I I look at his name and the last thing I think is Jaor. How is I said Demen right from the gate. That’s how I said it too because that’s what it looks like. Eigor Demond. It looks like a pretty straightforward name. I don’t I was saying I demon for a long time and then all all these different last names. I mean, but we have to start with DY’s performance yesterday. Shot 40% from three like you mentioned. Um and most importantly, I saw some clips from Eric Eric Slater following the following game. His form actually looked pretty nice on those two three balls. His feet were aligned. You know, he came quick off the pick and roll. I really really like the way that um Jagger Jagger was shooting the ball. So that was interesting to see from him. I want to see him be more physical though uh the next the next game that you know he plays valuable minutes in. I mean he played 23 minutes yesterday, had eight points, you know, a net zero rating overall. He did have two turnovers, but he’s he was known to have turnovers in college. 205 from downtown. What do you want to see from Jakor in the next summer league matchup uh for Brooklyn, Gary, which is on Sunday against the Washington Wizards? I mean, I want to see him handle the rock, right? Like I don’t want to see him playing the wing when when they drafted. I was I was texting with Pete from that fans, you know. Shout out Pete. Subscribe to Net. Yep. Yeah. I was texting with Pete and he’s like, “Well, he can play the wing.” I’m like, “Okay.” Like I we took him eighth overall. Why are we playing him out of position? Right. Like I I just don’t understand if this is what we want to do. He’s supposed to be the best ball handler, the best passer with the best vision in the draft and you want to play him like back in the day. I’m I’m going to show my age. When the Nets had Jason Kidd, they really couldn’t score and like they really couldn’t get offense going. They play him at the two and put him in the post against smaller point guards, right? Because you had to put a point guard on because he’s so quick. So he’d post up smaller point guards because he’s so strong. It’s like, “Okay, you can do this for five minutes. We’re not going to take the ball out of Jason Kidd’s hands. It’s like this is not what we’re doing. This is not how we’re going to run an offense. This is what we’re doing with Jaor. I mean, look, we’re gonna I don’t I want He asked me I want to see him run the point. That’s what I want to see him do. I I I don’t know why that’s so much to ask. I I’d like to see the point guard we drafted with our first lottery pick in 15 years run the point. That’s what I would like to see. Yeah, absolutely. I what I what I think is going to happen and and what I want to see over these next few games is I want him to use his physicality. People forget this guy’s 6’8. I want him to drive. I want him to get lot down low. I want him to be physical. I want him to be dominant in the in in the paint. That’s what that’s what I want to see from Jagor over these next few games. You spoke about vision. Someone who didn’t have great court vision yesterday and overall struggled was was Danny Wolf. He hit Drew Timmy in the head with a pass pretty much to uh to open the game. That was the first summer league blooper of the year for Brooklyn. Wol ultimately finished with a minus three rating. Uh four points, zero from 05 from the field, 03 from downtown. Just hit all four of his free throws, six total rebounds, a block, two assists, and four turnovers. His first possession of the game, Gary, vividly remember this. First possession of the game gets the ball for Danny Wolf. Gets the ball ripped out of his hands and then takes a panic foul for an N1 on Oklahoma City. So rough rough start for for Danny Wolf. Yeah. Um look, everyone wants to beat up on Wolf and he looked he did not look good. That’s for sure. I I could see some things in him. I I really could. I I could see he can handle the ball. I think he can play in the NBA. It’s going to be an adjustment period because everyone’s going to be a far better athlete than him now. He’s not going to be at their speed. They’re all going to be faster than him. Um there’s going to be some adjustments, but you can see the vision. You can see the creativity and the ability to handle the ball at an NBA level at being seven foot tall is all there. Look, is it going to be a smooth transition immediately? Maybe not. But I saw some stuff that made me think that he can play in the NBA. And I know that’s not the popular nar. Jed Katz on of Sports Illustrated, who we had on this program yesterday said when we were doing our starting five predictions, he had a hot take that Danny Wolf’s going to be the starting power forward this season. He look he he may be at some point. It’s not going to be Yeah. day one. Um could he start could he be the starting four? Do you have him at the four or the five? The four. Yeah, I thought so. Um maybe that means he’s starting over Clowny. How do we feel about that? Depends how much his defense improves over summer league. Depends how he looks in preseason as well. Like he’s too left feet on defense. that he can’t defend by any measure. Um I want if I want him to be able to knock down the three ball consistently if he’s going to be the starting power forward. That’s the biggest thing because I can’t see him I I could see him playing the five with Clowney. I could see him playing the four uh not not the starting four. Like he could come in for Clowny at the four and come in for Claxton at the five. I I can’t see him starting it. But go ahead. I didn’t mean to interrupt. No, no, that’s that’s all I was going to say. Like I think he needs to improve his defense. I think he needs to shoot the three ball more consistently. I think Noah Clown is a far better defender than Danny Wolf is and I think he’s a better shooter. And it’s it’s no diss against Wolfe because Wol has just entered the league. That was his first ever game in a Brooklyn Nets uniform and it was a summer league game. So, this guy certainly has room to grow. just wasn’t a pretty showing to to open his Brooklyn Nets career unlike you know Nolan Trayori for example who impressed Nets fans who said he was playing on a rolled ankle too which also was was was quite interesting to see that he was performing that well while also playing somewhat injured. But I want to get in and you see the comment from Maloo here to to start off the show. Says, “Someone kidnapped our favorite Walmart employee, Toan. I don’t want to see him again. Gary, our favorite Walmart employee in Walmart employee history, Toani WMA struggled yesterday.” That That’s the way I’m going to put it. He He You know, he finished the game with 13 points, which is nice, but from an efficiency standpoint, it wasn’t that pretty. Yeah. I he was there starting he he started he was their starting three in the game and this is he doesn’t have the skills to be a three and he’s not big enough to be a four. He’s kind of a tweener. He’s just not an NBA player to me. Like he had a nice little story what he had a game where he had like 20 something points last year. I didn’t even remember that when Jed Catz said it but I did look it up after and that was completely accurate. Yes. He had 22 points against Utah coming off the bench at 24 minutes and had the game icing free throws. So, yeah, one gig. Yeah, it’s a Yeah, it’s a cool story. He’s not good, right? Like, I mean, he’s he’s he’s not good. He He’s He’s got a two-way. It’s fine. Like, whatever. I wouldn’t have given it to him because I don’t see any upside. I’m not trying to dunk on the guy. He’s not an NBA player. Like, I I don’t Yeah, I don’t know what else to say. Did he look bad? Yeah. And he’s gonna look bad. This is a summer league game, you know? Imagine how he looks against all NBA players when he’s playing against veterans. Like, how’s he gonna look then? It’s just he’s he’s not I’m not trying to dunk on the guy. Five turnovers. Like, that’s five turnovers in a summer league game is for a non ball handler. Yeah. Like for a non ball handler who’s a veteran. Like Danny Wolf’s four uh turnovers is ugly. It’s certainly ugly. Not pretty. That four turnover like Yeah. Exactly. To Woman didn’t have the ball in his hands all that often. I remember the first like he drove for a layup on the first possession of the game and like it didn’t even touch the rim. Like it just skyrocketed right off the backboard into Oklahoma’s possession. So yeah, Toani Wo certainly not a a a pretty showing. I mean, this is one of your guys on a two-way deal. It’s like keep him in the GLeague and then if you love him so much and you need him to come up due to injury, sign him to an exhibit 10. That’s what I do. Like you don’t give this guy a two-way spot. Like like Gary, the the as as the NBA progresses year in and year out, these two-way spots continuously become more valuable. Like why are you giving it to a guy who doesn’t have much upside who in my opinion can’t make much of an impact in Brooklyn if called upon? Like it it simply doesn’t make sense to me as why the Nets, you know, give Toan WA. They hand him one of the one of the three of two-way contracts. The other guy who’s also currently on a two-way contract with Brooklyn is Tyson Etienne, who got off to a hot start yesterday for Brooklyn. I was really, really pleased with the way he started off the game. Overall, though, 22 minutes on three of 10 from the field, two of six from downtown, eight total points, a net minus one rating, four turn uh two turnovers, excuse me, two steals, two assists, four rebounds. compared to what the Nets did overall compared to how Oklahoma City had great defense all night long. Not a bad showing from Etien. I love how he, you know, started started his night right on the wing pulling up from three and then had a nice three in the corner. Uh nice pass, by the way. Do you see that pass when he was driving and he kind of got shoved and on the run hit it to Trayori in the corner and then Trayori knocked it down uh for a wideopen three ball. So, I I was happy with what I saw from Etsy, but at the same time, like I’d much rather be pleased with a performance from, you know, Quincy Olivari when he plays, a guy who has upside, who’s played in the G- League before compared to Tyson at the end because we pretty much kind of already know who he is as a player. I was Etsion was the best player on the court for the Nets yesterday. He really was. I think Trayori was, but Okay. Yeah. comparable Etion certainly had a great game. Etsion played really well. Like I said, he he scored, he ran the point, he handled the ball. Um, turn the ball over. Yeah, he didn’t turn the ball over. Like he he was the floor general out there. He he he looked good. Uh, I was I was impressed with Tyson Etion. Uh, Grant Nelson and Ben Saraf I was not. Uh, but Tyson, I thought played played well yesterday. I was uh Yeah, that was that was a positive thing for I I don’t know what his role is going to be. I don’t know. He’s got a two-way, right? So, he’s going to be here at times. He’s on he is on a two-way. I expect to see him in the preseason. Um because I guess what are you going to do with Tyson Etion? You know what I’m saying? You’re not going to get but uh I thought that was that that was positive yesterday from from T. Certainly. You mentioned Ben Saraf. I kind of want to get into him. He started his night off with a what I would I’ll give Ben Sarafh his flowers was a beautiful spin move and then he actually finished finished the layin. finished the layin which was the most surprising part in my opinion. So Ben Saraf was uh had a really really interesting performance um yesterday for for Brooklyn. He finished the night with only three total points, a minus 11 rating, two turnovers, two assists, and one rebound on one of five shooting from the field of run from downtown and then one of two on his free throw attempts. We kind of know who we we kind of know who Tyson uh we kind of know, excuse me, who Ben Saraf really is at at this point. I think Ben Saraf is a guy who has speed, has athleticism. That’s the only thing he really brings to the table. Not a great defender. Can’t really shoot for you. I don’t think you can rely on him to give you a plus rating night in and night out. So, wasn’t a beautiful showing for Ben Saraf, but didn’t surprise me because this was the expectation I had going in to the season. Yeah, I’m looking at my notes here. And uh the only thing I got is early in the game I said uh looking pretty with the spin move and he finished it and then I have nothing else on him for the rest of the game. That’s it. So this is this is what I have on Ben Saraf. This is all I have on Ben Saraf. Saraf beautiful spin move into layup. Foul on a drive next possession. Goes one of two from the stripe. Great speed. Great assist to Nelson. So he had a nice assist to Grant Nelson where Nelson hammered it home after Nelson uh you know hammered that home Gary I was like let’s see more of Grant Nelson then he just did nothing the whole game. I mean I you know the another guy who I think really really stood out for Brooklyn yesterday was Drew Timmy. He had a great great great performance overall. Um he his final line for for for Timmy yesterday. Why? Here it is. Um here it is. He had 22 points. Yeah he had he had a double double. He had 22 points. Um we know he almost had a double double. Nine rebounds. With nine rebounds. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Nine rebounds, one assist, a steal, a block, no turnovers, one of four from free throws, one of three from beyond the arc, 10 of 13 shooting from inside the field, and then that that all across 30 minutes. So, a really nice overall showing from Drew Timmy. But again, it’s like this is a guy like it’s always great to see. I I’m never rooting against a Brooklyn Net no matter what. I’m always if if you’re wearing a Brooklyn Nets jersey, I’m always rooting for you no matter what. But it’s like, is this the guy you really want to see thrive on the court? Like I I’d much rather have so many other players stick out because there’s not a role for Drew Timmy really, no matter how much he impresses in my opinion over the summer league. Like I just don’t know how Drew Timmy fits in Brooklyn. I want to touch on that, right? Because anyone who’s played a lot of basketball, like a lot of pickup basketball, like there’s this guy that you know he you run with him like I don’t want to run with this guy. He sucks. And then you play with him, you’re like, “You know what? He’s actually pretty good.” And then you keep running with him and you keep winning and you’re like, “You know what? I I I want to run with this guy. That’s Drew Timmy.” Like, I I get it. You watch Drew Timmy and it’s like all the obvious stuff, but he keeps contributing and he keeps playing well. Like I don’t know. Like there’s something. I’m not saying he’s going to be a star in the league. Just saying like he may be a guy that kicks around the league because I I want to run with this guy. He can play. He keeps contributing. like when they brought him up like this guy’s terrible and it’s all right he’s an NBA player and now it’s like he’s like a friend he can’t be a rotational guy like there may be minutes for this it doesn’t look pretty but like he keeps he keeps putting up numbers he keeps getting rebounds he keeps making shots like who do you want him over then in Brooklyn would you put him I don’t know like let’s just see how like I’m not going to like automatically give him minutes he’s got to earn those but like every time you play him he just contributes he killed it in the G-League he played fine He he looked like an NBA player to me. He contributed an NBA level in his in his few minutes last year and now you put him out here against, you know, summer league player and he and he and he dominates. He’s 22 and 10, 22 and nine. Yeah. I mean, I want to see how this performance can, you know, persist pretty much um over the whole summer league and I think that stands for for every player like could, you know, Jaor can give us a triple double at some point in the summer league and, you know, kind of change our opinion on yesterday. I thought Jagor was okay. He didn’t really catch my eye. Like if I I I wouldn’t have if I was just someone watching the game that knew nothing about basketball and someone told me that I I wouldn’t I wouldn’t have guessed that he was the eighth overall pick. Like I would have said, “Oh, Trayor was the first was the first overall pick for you guys and in this year’s draft.” I wouldn’t have guessed it was it was Jay Goryman just based on the way he um per performed yesterday. But there’s certainly a lot to look forward to. I mean, the Nets still have a handful of summer league games left. So, it’s going to be very interesting again to kind of see how Steve Hzel is able to utilize this rotation. Gary, anyone we didn’t see yesterday who you want to see on Sunday against the Washington Wizards? Well, I want to give a shot. Caleb Daniels, number 28. Uh, guy is good guy with a little fro. Really good effort on defense. He’s got zero% chance of making the team. Uh, he’s 26 years old. I looked him up like he played at Villanova. 26 years old. 15 rating though. like you that defensive effort was there. He was he he was hounding everyone on defense. I love watching summer league because these guys like jump on the you know the the floor. They do they they’re putting for their lives. Yeah. Good max effort from Caleb Daniels yesterday on defense. Um look he gets to wear a Nets uniform. He gets to be part of the Brooklyn Nets for the summer. Um he’s certainly not going to make the roster. I looked like 26 like 26. Dang. Yeah. Um, he could be Tosson from Walmart in a few years. Who knows? Like he can he can be someone like that. Yeah. But I want I want to shout out Caleb Daniels for his effort on defense. And uh yeah, that’s that’s that’s that’s the one I knew we weren’t going to touch on him, so I wanted to shout him out before we I appreciate you jumping in. So, anyone you want to see next game on on on Sunday against Washington? Uh the guys the guys who Can I say Drake Pal? Because I really want to see Drake Pal. That’s what I really want to see. Oh, yeah. By the by the way, I ordered a I was ordering a Drake. This is a huge mistake that I made. It actually arrived yesterday and I’m so mad. Drake Powell is the jersey that I’m I Drake Drake Powell is the jersey that I am ordering um for to be my jersey this season. I I I chose Drake Powell and before the num the day before the number became official, I just wanted I wanted the jersey so bad. So the day before the number became official, it’s like 14’s available. He wore 14 in college. Just going to buy a 14. and he chose number four. So, I now have a number 14 Drake Powell jersey that I’m trying to return to Fanatics um to see if I can exchange it for the number four Drake Powell jersey. So, that was I mean, of course, like I’m sure if I didn’t buy the jersey, he would have picked number 14. So, it’s it’s it’s it’s just my luck overall. But oh, the the guys who we didn’t see yesterday, not counting Powell because we know he’s not I was ask I was going to ask you whose jersey you’re going I’m going to go with Michael Porter Jr. Okay, that’s great. Seven is going to look really nice. I will say that. I like the way Seven looks with MPJ. Um Um So I’d go Dayun if you want a second like I I love Dayron. Yeah, I love Dron too. Clown is going to If I get a second jersey, it’s going to be Clowny. But so I wanted to wait on two things. What the the jersey does it say Porter Jr. on the back or does it just say Porter? So I’m waiting on that. I had to customize the Powell one. They didn’t have Powell jersey. I had to like customize it. Um let’s see. It should nets. Let’s see if the jerseys are up. Oh, no. You You have to make it custom. They don’t have the the jerseys aren’t ready yet for for Porter. The second thing, the alternate uniform. Are they going to replace horrible cause editions with something better? Because I might order that. So, I’m waiting for that and I’m waiting to see if Porter Jr. has Porter or Porter Jr. on the back. The one last year, the city edition jerseys were awful last year. Um, yeah, the course jerseys. That’s Yeah, those are so bad. And we’ve always had like Yeah, I had the red, white, you know, the red, white, and blue one they did I think two or three years ago. It was the like with the kind of the New Jersey logo. I had like a a warm-up vest for that uh that color scheme. It was super super cool. So, yeah, get a good city edition jersey. There are so many teams like Miami, for example, is such a great city edition color scheme. Like we’ve had them in the past. Like we’ve had good city distance in the past. The these are abysmal. Yeah, absolutely. They’re not good, Conor. Yeah, the problem. Definitely. Do you remember like the the the Miami Heat ones that were like uh baby pink and baby blue and they would like kind of fade into each other like Yeah, they had them recently. I think those were sick. Yeah. Oh, you like those? I think those were awful. I think I think it gave me a seizure. I really do. I couldn’t watch them. Oh, let’s see. Uh you know the ones I’m talking about like like the device kind of looking things. Yeah, these. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What’s that? It’s not my f I like these. I think those are cool. Yeah. Yeah. I think those are cool. Um I mean the Yeah. The ones the Nets have had have not been great by any measure. Um, for those who are are wondering, I’m talking about the city editions. That city edition. The ones that look like the New Jersey Nets uniform. Those are I like the Yeah. Um, these are It was this one. The city edition one. I love those. Those are cool. Yeah, those are cool. That’s not for this year though. That was two years ago. Yeah. Yeah. What was it? This last Oh, it was this last year, which This was last year. The year before had like weird red in it. Like this probably Yeah. This one’s terrible, but this one’s awful. But this one is way worse. This is that was I think the letters are terrible. Yeah. It doesn’t The gray doesn’t make s like I want I want a color that pops. Like give me something like this for example. I want the red, white, and blue is the best color scheme in the world. The teams that have red, white, and blue, the Patriots, the Cubs, the Giants, they don’t go away from it because it’s the best color scheme. Just go back. Even these are okay. They’re not my favorite, but they’re better than Yeah, I think those are way better. Um, but yeah, those are the Coogi. I think those are overrated. Like they’re all right. Yeah, definitely. For sure. The thing about the Nets uniforms, they’re, you know, they’re standard home in a way that they’re they’re clean, but they’re blah, right? Like, okay, they were cool when they first came out, the black and the white, but now like 13 years and it’s like like let’s let’s Yeah. Yeah. Break back bring back this and give it a Brooklyn theme to it. Uh whose jersey is that? Petravvic. Uh no, it’s Jason Kid. Oh, it’s Kid. Okay. Kid, even just watching highlights of Kid and not being able to cover him, you could tell that he was like such an efficient like probably the most efficient scorer in the NBA at that time. like he was if Cam Thomas could get assists and defend. I think that I think that’s why. But getting back to summer league yesterday, the guys who did not play for Brooklyn, Tyrese Samuel, Justin Hamilton, Drake Powell, obviously he’s not suiting up for any summer league games due to a knee injury. Terry Roberts who was on Long Island last season, Dre Davis, Quincy Olivari. Gary, who do you want to see on Sunday against Washington, who we did not see this past game? Really? None of those guys. It’s it’s one of Quincy Olivari like I mean I I’ll watch them and I’ll probably because they’re wearing Brooklyn Nets jerseys, but none of those guys have any chance of making the team. They can’t not Terry Roberts, not Dre Davis. None of those guys. It It’s You’re gonna have your You’re going to have um your work cut out for you because you can’t crack the rotation on a summer league team. Think about that, right? Like Yeah. like preseason and I think in NBA as well along with NFL is so different than summer league. Summer league is just a bunch of try out guys. Like think of summer league as like training camp scrimmages for the NFL like like uh inner practice um was that the two the um when the two teams come together and scrimmage like a dual scrimmage for example like the joint practice is joint practices. Yeah. Yeah. Like the Jets did three of last year they have one with the Giants this year. That’s pretty much what summer league is like in essence. They didn’t even want Drake Pal to play in it, right? Like he like if it was the NBA playoffs, Drake Pal would be playing right now, right? Like this is not that big of a deal. This is Yeah, they don’t even like you. He’s He’s 19 years old. They don’t even care about getting him burned in the summer league, you know? Like they don’t like Look, Cooper Flag looked terrible yesterday. I’m pretty sure Cooper Flag’s going to be all right. He’s going to be okay, right? Like you want to see guys look good, but it’s not the end of the world in my opinion. It’s It’s not. It’s I mean, we all thought Jaylen Wilson was the greatest thing since sliced bread after he won summer, including myself, by the way. And those out there who are new to the pod, I’m not afraid to admit I’m wrong on any dig. I was completely wrong on the Jaylen Wilson thing. Gary, you didn’t like Jaylen Wilson at first. Then I kind of you you even said it when we were on your podcast last year. You I kind of I kind of lured you into liking Jaylen Wilson a little bit. Well, just like I lured you into liking Cliff Kingsbury in the Jets head coaching search after you were completely opposed to it and you gave me five minutes to explain my case. So, you know, Jaylen Wilson is a 3 and D guy. It’s the way to put it. He’s like I missed the comp you gave right out of the way and I’m I’m sticking with it. It’s Kesler Edwards 2.0. It’s a guy who can shoot the three ball at an okay rate for you and not really do anything other than that. He’s like a wing. That’s that’s that’s what he is at the at the end. I mean, he’s got no dunks. He’s physically strong, but okay. Can he get in? Can he can he cause some damage in the paint? Can he get some offensive rebounds? No. You know, could he be could he be hard? Like, could he be like that on the Knicks? Could he do that? No. The closest guy to that is probably Keon Johnson on the team. If you just think of like someone who could just provide an energy spark and like get rebounds and play fast, it’s probably Keon. And I hate saying that because I know you don’t like Keon and I certainly am not a big Keon Johnson fan, but closest guy to Josh athlete. He’s not an NBA player. Like you all Okay. No. No. Yeah. Next. Like I’m good. I’m I’m good on Keon Johnson. Certainly not an NBA player. He’s not on the summer league roster though. So I I still anticipate that Keon Johnson is going to play a huge role in Brooklyn this season. I really really do. He’s a great tanking piece. He’s a terrific tanking piece. I don’t know if he’s a good tanking piece though. really because he’s not going to help you win down the road. Like I think of good tanking pieces, guys who are young that you just want to see and you lose. When I say a good tanking piece, I mean, oh, you just mean guys who are going to help you lose a lot of games. Yeah, Keon Johnson would certainly be one of them. Uh Tyrese Martin would probably be another. Uh Drew Timmy would be another one. A lot Nets have a lot of tanking pieces on this team. I asked this question of Pete. Would you rather bottom out this season, get a top three pick, or go to the first round of the playoffs? I said first round of the playoffs and I’ll explain why after and I got a ton of hate for it. Yo, if Yeah. No, I’m going to agree with you because if we get to the first round of the playoffs, I like you. That means the guys that we drafted played well. We’re not making the playoffs if all those guys suck. That means like Yeah. No, I’m going to go with Conor. I’d rather make the first round of the playoff because that means we picked well. Um, yeah, you’d lose in the first round of the playoffs probably. But also, yeah, not only would it show that the young guys played really, really well, but it gives something for your culture to build on. That’s another bottom line. It would give something for your culture to to build on and show, hey, we’re we’re going to win here in a few years down the road. We want to win a championship in 5 years. We’re serious about winning here. And I think that’s what it’ show to the culture as well. So, there’s also the um culture aspect of this as as well that you have to keep in mind. So Pete said he’d he’d rather bottom out and um get a top three pick. I’m going with the playoff route here. Take winning any Utah. It’s working. Washington, it works. If you tell me you make the playin, if you tell me you make the playin, no, I’d probably say not like if you go if you go into the playin as a 10 seed and get wiped out in the you know playin game, that does nothing for me. Um, but I again play playoffs are the playoffs. Like once you get into the playoffs, it’s anyone’s game, right? And like you want the team to win, right? Like this idea that like we’re just going to sit there and collect lottery picks and become good. It doesn’t work, right? Like they always we got Derek Coleman number one overall and Kenny Anderson number two overall. It didn’t work. We never got to the f we never out of the first round of the playoffs. It didn’t work. Like that’s the team that I grew up on. It was fun. It was exciting. The Nets weren’t terrible. They never got out of the first round of the playoffs with that team. So like it didn’t work, right? Like I want a team that wins. You know what I’m saying? Like just to sit here and say we’re terrible, but we we picked number one overall. We picked number two overall. Yeah. Okay. That doesn’t mean I’m winning games, right? Like does anyone think Washington is going to be good this year? Does anyone think that? No, they pick high every year. No, I I I want to win. And if we’re making the playoffs with this unit, that means those guys, those draft picks we made played well and they’re going to be here for a while and we’re going to win with those guys eventually. So, I would promising signs certainly and I think you got to win. You got to win. Like there’s always talks about the Nets are going to win in four or five years when they have all these, you know, good pieces and they bottom out over the next few years. you gotta win sooner rather than later because you know five years of losing who knows if Jordy Fernandez here is here who knows if Shawn Marks this is here who’s kind of picked the direction that this team is gonna go down like that’s a huge thing like if you get your GM fired midway through a rebuild that’s a pretty significant issue because I want I you know I don’t think Shawn Mark’s a good GM I want him here now though because he’s kind of picked the direction that this organization is going in like I think you need to stick with the GM who’s already picked the direction is going to dictate everything but anyways appreciate tuning in. Nets didn’t tank for Egor, I’m sure if the Nets were certain that he would still be there at 19 they would’ve definitely picked differently. It was the FO’s choice to choose him first once they found out that OKC was going to trade up for him. Steve Hetzel was also just testing rotations to see what fits. Hopefully he’ll get it together next game.
Definitely top 3 pick than making the playoffs. Next year’s draft has 3 or 4 studs
it's not Doymin it's Dyomin
Egor was the wrong pick
