Would Jonathan Kuminga fit Scott Perry’s Masterplan for Sacramento?
from the Athletic Renault. Uh we welcome back Anthony Slater. How are you slates? I’m good, fellas. How are you all? Good. Thank you so much for making time for us. We appreciate it. Hope you had a great holiday weekend. I know things were busy, busy, busy. Um where, if we may ask, where did things stand, if they stand at all, between the Kings and the Warriors concerning Jonathan Kaminga as far as you know? Yeah, I was going to say it wasn’t that busy of a holiday weekend. Um things they’re not moving that quick. This is restricted free agency across the league. You know, name the four biggest situations restricted free agency wise. I’m talking Kamingo, but also Josh Giddy in Chicago, Quinton Grimes and Philly and and Cam Thomas in Brooklyn. Uh the market dynamics at play which include like almost no cap space out there except Brooklyn um has frozen the restricted free agency market. So I think you know obviously there’s been a lot of chatter out there about the Kings. I even put out last night, they certainly have been uh the the strongest pursuer of Kaminga. But I think sometimes what people forget is there’s three sides on this. There is the Kings desires, there is the Warriors desires, there’s also Jonathan Kaminga’s desires. This is not the trade deadline where Warriors and Kings can just talk to each other without talking to Jonathan Kaminga and his side. Uh he matters within this and uh from my understanding it has not come close where all three sides would be appeased in a in a situation that will get Jonathan Kaminga to Sacramento. Yeah. Hey, Slates, is there a a a deadline where this needs to be wrapped up? Like, how long can this stalemate uh go on? Wow. I mean, I’d say it jokingly because I’m not predicting it’s going to last that long, but that’s it’s part of uh the leverage in this situation, it’s time. Certainly from the restricted free agent side where you you’re not given very much leverage in uh this current market uh you can be patient and Jonathan Kamega has a qualifying offer out to him 7.9 million uh which I believe it you know he can sign all the way up till October 1st and until then he can wait out and try to find the best contract and situation that he desires and sure I mean like it hasn’t been a very friendly market uh but he could just wait he can wait it out and you know maybe that generates leverage you know between him and the Warriors. Maybe something pops free. Maybe a big trade happens across the league. Maybe Brooklyn, you know, decides, hey, we didn’t use our cap space here or there. Maybe we’ll get into the sweep stakes. Um, it hasn’t, like I said, it hasn’t been flush with movement. Clearly, Sacramento has tried to edge its way in and and at least presented an opportunity that that I think, you know, we could categorize as a boow type opportunity. And and there was conversations, but it didn’t get that far. And um I mean, you know, the kings could theoretically put their own personal deadline and say, “Hey, we want this to be known by July 12th, for example, uh and if it’s not done by then, we’re we’re out.” Well, then they can just be out. But as far as like I think, and I’ve been saying this for a while, I think Kaminga and the Warriors, which are the two most important parties in this situation, are in a stalemate that I’ve been predicting for a while it was going to last a while. Uh it’s Anthony Slater. Cory Slates, I wanted to ask your views of Kaminga. great Nick Fidel told me years ago, Nick Fidell said, “Oh, Slater’s a big uh Kaminga guy.” Is that is that accurate? Would you describe yourself as a big kaminga guy? I I like his talent. Uh I think it has been underutilized with the Warriors. I think there are understandable reasons for that. I think he doesn’t mesh necessarily with with what Steve Kerr’s, you know, system and and the Steph Curry offense wants to do. He has very high ambitions for himself where Steve Kerr has made it clear he kind of wants Kaminga to fit a more slashing role player. He you know he wants him to be the Shawn Marian that the Suns once had which is we never run a play for you. You just use your athleticism, crash the glass, high energy guard everybody uh and you make your money that way. You turn into Aaron Gordon in Denver essentially. And Kaminga wants to be uh a future part of an offense. He wants to score. He he wants to take mid-range jumpers. He wants to create. He wants that, you know, pick and roll touches. He wants to be uh you know an all-star, multiple time all-star. These are quotes he’s given me on the record. I went and you know visited him in Cleveland about a week before free agency and he’s being very clear and transparent about his desires in the league. And there is obviously a little bit of a disconnect, a public disconnect even uh between Warriors desires and his desires. But that doesn’t take away the the talent that I do think he possesses long term and the fact that he’s 22 years old. You know, the Warriors just added a guy in the draft. Will Richard seems fine. He had a nice little summer league debut. Uh he’s older or I think he’s about the same same exact age as Jonathan. Jonathan Ka is very young still and I do think uh you know as topsy turvy roller coastery as it’s been with the Warriors I still think he has a very high upside. Anthony Slater of the Athletic joining us slates. Uh do you uh see a scenario in which Kaminga and Golden State men defenses and he’s actually on the roster this upcoming season? I would say that’s the likeliest scenario at this point because I just I’m not sure he’s going to get to, you know, be able to muscle his way to a point where he gets the dollar amount that he wants while also the Warriors get the trade package they want. Cuz that’s the thing, a team like the Kings, for example, they not only have to, you know, give the Warriors, you know, a sign and trade package that they agree to, but they also have to then commit to an amount of money to pay Jonathan Kaminga. You know, you have to check both boxes. Um, and if you don’t, then either Kaminga is going to say no or the Warriors are going to say no. And it just doesn’t seem like both of those sides seem a little bit dug in. Uh, and I just think it it kind of uh works against each other. And my opinion is eventually they’ll get to a compromised contract that u you know and I I didn’t even explain the base year compensation rule which really complicates this and I almost don’t want to get into it because of you know the CBA and we could probably spend 20 more minutes on it but I just think all of the market dynamics at play will lead him back to the Warriors at a compromised contract that can potentially be traded come December 15th uh when they can trade the full value of that contract. Anthony Slater with us. By the way, the piece that you alluded to that you did on uh Jonathan Kaminga, it’s it’s excellent piece. Congratulations on that. As far as a potential Kaminga to Sacramento fit, and I understand what you’re saying. You’re saying it doesn’t appear likely. I understand from the Kings standpoint, look, we want to get younger and we want to stay relevant. That’s a guy that would he would help us stay competitive now and maybe he gets better. Other than that, with this roster, I don’t see the basketball fit for Kuminga on this Kings roster. Uh Slates, how about you? I would say if they sign Jonathan Kame, if they if they get it done and they’re certainly not out of it, I you know that I would say the conversations while slowm moving and far away are still relatively active. Um if if John the Kaminga is ends up on their roster at some point this summer, I think that is a sign of them pivoting quietly a little bit towards the future where where you don’t need to sit here and say I mean we will obviously entering train how does he fit with Sabonis? How does he fit with Lavine? But the idea of adding Jonathan Kamingo would be if he does pop and explode, he’s part of your next great team. And it would be more like how do the future Scott Perry, this would be Scott Perry’s first big move. And we would be talking more about how like a Jonathan Kaminga type roster around him would would make sense in the future. Uh there would, you know, again, if he we know he wants the ball in his hands, we know Lavine has the ball in his hands. So Bonus is a center has the ball in his hands. Where’s Monk in this situation? Where’s D Rozan? there’s one of them out the door if they’re trying to fit Kaminga’s money in. Um, it’s not ideal just like their current roster is not ideal fitting. But, uh, I guess the appeal of a Kaminga compared to a D Rozan or some of the other piece on the roster is the age. It’s the 22. It’s the idea of of you you are undergoing a little bit more of a youth movement. Anthony Slater joining us. Slates, I want to switch gears uh to the latest with Dennis Shruder. you know, it seems like he’s coming to Sacramento, you know, over the weekend. Uh, it seemed like it was going to be a signing trade, then it was just going to be an outright signing. Uh, Malik Monk was rumored to be involved over the last week. What can you tell us about where things stand there? Yeah, it’s not official at this point, which you know that that happens a lot in the league where they’re, you know, the way you have to sequence some of these moves and it’s becoming more and more complicated as you guys know sitting on the radio having to talk about all these a you know, first apron, second apron, all these odd terms that are just thrown into the lexicon. Sometimes the way you teams have to sequence their moves to stay under, you know, the rules of the league mean you can’t officially do stuff till till kind of later. That’s why that Durant thing became a 17 trade that people were kind of hyping up where it was like, okay, just part of it was just this team was swapping draft picks with this team, but by the time draft night got there, like it was you, you know, like the Warriors were roped in. It was like they didn’t really have anything to do with it. But anyways, my point is um there’s maybe the Pistons are trying to create, you know, a big trade exception. Maybe they’re still trying to find a way to get Monk roped into the trade. Certainly Monk’s been available on the open market. My understanding on the Warriors front is they have not had any interest uh in adding Malik Monk and any Kaminga type conversation, but um I guess the the thing we know is Dennis Rutder will be a point guard for the Kings next year. I just do not know when that’ll be official and exactly what will come along with that. So Slice, can you confirm then that the Kings I think the way you reported they floated an offer which was Devin Carter Sharic and two seconds for uh Kaminga and the and the Warriors bulked at that. I use the word floated for a reason, right? Like these, you know, it’s like these so many just discussions out there. Like sometimes people think there’s like a firm email or it’s like a fantasy football, you know, you like send it in an official type thing. Like they’ve been like the I would say the Kings more than any other team have been like actively talking to the Warriors about uh this type of stuff. Um again, I don’t think the I know the Warriors have not come close to saying, “Hey, that’s something we would do.” And I know that Jonathan Kaminga has side has not come close to saying, “Hey, the Kings, that’s that’s a contract that we would be willing to sign.” Uh, and understandably, I think the Kings are poking around because they’re saying, “Hey, that’s a talent over there with a situation that’s a little murky and and maybe a chance to to get a talent in the door for for a cheap price.” Um, so those are the type of names that have been, you know, talked about, but it’s as I will continue to say it’s just it because there’s three sides and three motives in this situation and none of them seem to be aligning. It just hasn’t got near where it needs to be. Well, listen, congrats on the career move. I know it’s hasn’t happened yet, but uh we uh we appreciate your time and your insight. Anybody if you’re wondering what’s going on with Kaming and the Kings, if you’re not already following Anthony Slater, that’s the guy you need to be following. Thank you, Slates. We appreciate it. I hope you had a great holiday and we’ll talk to you soon. Yep. All right, fellas. Thanks for having me. There you go. So, the king’s kind of poking around like that. There you go. There you go. What about this? What about that? Yeah.

Para SA akin puede si heal SA gsw basta hinde sila magkaproblema SA ahod si liliardkasi next year available .
Why would they be offering devin carter plus another player AND picks when they could have gotten whitmore or collins for a 2nd or two?! Those are actual team guys that wouldnt need the whole world to revolve around them who would be cheaper in every way.. Make this make sense
As a warriros fan who watches every game twice, teams are absolutely sleeping on Kuminga. Worst possible situation for a player who is 22. Teams gonna regret not getting in now. I hate to see him go.
Kings need to get Ben Simmons n be done w it…..
