This WAS NOT Supposed TO Happen… | Daily Grizzlies News & Rumors
to this edition of Grizzly Daily. I’m your host, Malik, and let’s just jump straight into it, man. Uh, Grizz versus Jazz in the summer league. It came right down to the wire. Literally right down to the wire, and the Grizzlies ended up losing 112 to 111. At the end of the game, Gi Jackson hit a miraculous one-legged three, or so we thought. They reviewed it and it was claimed a two. I personally thought it was three. Nobody like all by side, I thought it was a three, but they felt it was a two. So, the Grizz ended up losing the game. Now, what is interesting about the game is Grizzlies won by 19 at one point. Um, and then league gone. So, some things to touch on. I don’t really I got to be honest. I don’t really care about the blowing league that much. It’s It’s summer league. Let’s just be honest. Um, something that I really want to talk about was how GG Jackson just looks comfortable, which is good. He he looks comfortable. That’s what we needed right there. Um, I’m looking up the box score right now. I’m trying to find it actually. But Gigi looked Gigi looked comfortable, which is something that, you know, the Grizz really look forward to having as he comes off the bench next year cuz more than likely he will come off the bench. Um, but GG looked comfortable. Um, have it have it right here. He had 27 and five and shot pretty good from the field. Uh, yeah, GG looks like he doesn’t even belong in some. We said that. Yes, we said the um yesterday’s episode and we kind of need to reiterate it. GG does not need the summer league. It is good to see that he he’s working in the summer league because he didn’t have an off seasonason to train last year, but let’s just be honest, he does not need something. He’s much better than summer league. Um also in that game, Cam Spencer, 23 points, six rebounds, three assists in 29 minutes. Honestly, I love it. I love it. I was watching uh the pregame show with uh Pete and Rob Fischer and something that Pete Prrenica said was that Ken Spencer needed to shoot the ball more. And sure enough, we saw Ken Spencer shoot the ball more. I feel that Ken Spencer um he did he does have he did have some concerns early on about um his shot selection, but I think he’s kind of gotten the idea of being a playmaker, but at the end of the day, he does have a role. And honestly, if Ken Spencer is gonna be coming off the bench, the team is gonna look for him to shoot because Ken Spencer is a shooter that you cannot leave open at all. So, I think the Grizzlies want him to shoot the ball more. And if they do, go for it. Absolutely go for it. And clearly, we saw an aggressive Ken Spencer today. Uh, I love what I saw. I really do love what I saw. Um, I I I just wish kind of people other people kind of saw the vision. Um, so other than that, I like Ken Spencer. He did a good job um controlling the game. I just wish he um just wish um he kind of was given more of a chance to prove that he’s a rotational piece. And what I mean by that is some of the people that don’t need to play in this, they they just simply don’t need to play. This needs to be for guys to prove that they are rotational pieces. At this point, we know Jaylen Wells. We know Jaylen Wells is a rotational piece. We know GG is a rotational piece. Give Ken Spencer that opportunity to really prove that he’s a rotational piece. So, hopefully we see that come time for Vegas. If not, I’m all for, you know, GG and Jaylen Wells are going to want to play basketball. So, that’s just that that’s just that reality. Um, when it comes to this game, I had a few things. Um, if I’m being honest, it Well, let’s actually talk about Jamaic because, how do I put it? He he he’s an energy guy. He is an energy guy and I love it. Um, very good defensively. Um, he he used all 10 fouls, but if you watch the game, he had a great impact defensively and a little bit of playmaking. He it’s the best way to describe him is just if you want if he need if you need him to do something he’s going to do it. He’s one of those people. Um but he he he stood out in that game. He really did. Very physical defender. Obviously, you know, kind of got to relax with the fouling, but some league they do call anything a foul. That’s just the reality of summer league. But I like Jama like liked what I saw. Hopefully he um hopefully he gets another chance to really bring that energy and hopefully time for Vegas we can actually see you know more minutes from him and really see what he brings to the table. Now the only concern and I truly mean this one of the only concerns about summer league these last two games Zion Poland that experiment I think yeah I think that experiment is done. I’m just sorry I think that experiment is done. the the guy just he he struggles way too much. He just struggles way too much. Um whatever the front office saw in him, we’re not seeing it. Um he he’s a guard, but he doesn’t really know how to handle a ball. I mean, at one honestly, he he had a key turnover with 12 seconds left in that g in yesterday’s game and it really hurt the Grizzlies. So, Zion Poland, it’s just kind of hard for me to see what they see in him. And it’s just one of those situations where he has the ball and you’re worried about what’s going to happen next. So, I think Zion Poland, I don’t think I don’t think you need to have an experiment anymore. I think we kind of can put that under rest and, you know, just leave it be. Honestly, if he’s on the two-way, which I doubt, um cuz I know at one point he was, I think I think you just let that go. I’m being honest. I think you just let that go at that point. So, yeah, that’s really all there is to that. Um next game is tonight. Um it it’ll be the last one in Utah, so definitely be on the lookout for that. Uh definitely going to be watching it because I don’t know who’s all going to play because it’s the last one in Utah and then Vegas is coming up. So really no telling, but uh tip off is there at six o’clock against the 76ers. Um good thing for the s good thing for the Grizzlies. It doesn’t look like VJ Edge Coleman is going to play because of uh believe a thumb thumb concerns. So ain’t no telling on that, but only time will tell and we we’ll see. Now, uh in other news, not really much free agency news, but just kind of something that was confirmed. Uh the Grizzly signed Cedric Cow to a multi-year contract. looking at it right here. He um uh terms of the deal were not disclosed because of team policy, but he’s been signed to a multi-year contract probably somewhere around like three four years. Um sim similar to um I believe it was Zia Williams, similar to his contract. So that’s probably what we’re looking at. But um nothing I mean no real news. We kind of knew this was going to happen. Um just, you know, just confirmation. Real really good. Um really good news hearing that you know the Grizzlies are relying on him to be their future wing. Um so that’s so that’s a good sign because at this rate we’re not asking for everybody to be the main star. We’re just asking for people to play their role play play the role that they can and essentially just give give the starters you know a side of relief. So, um, yeah, I I think we’ll see a lot of Cedric Cow in the next few years, which I’m all for. I’m here for it. I like his game. He has a great mid-range, which allows the Grizzlies to really space the floor and let him handle the ball on his own. So, it’ll be really interesting to see how the Grizzlies let him do that. And if they do, um, in other news, uh, like I said, it was not much free agency news yesterday. It was very chill day, but something that, uh, really caught my attention I kind of wanted to talk about. Um, obviously we uh obviously we know that Norman Powell traded to Miami and then Kevin Love was traded as well. Well, it’s been said that Kevin Love is essentially going to be bought out. That’s essentially what’s going to happen. And if I’m being honest, I know we do this all the time. I truly know we do this all the time, but I am being so serious when I say this. We need to make a call to get Kevin Love. Genuinely, we need to get we need to go after Kevin Love mostly because there is a there’s to me when I see when I see a guy like Kevin Love in the buyout market, I truly think that he’s essentially perfect for the Grizzlies. And I I say this because yes, Kevin Love is on the older side. No question about it. But he is a veteran. He plays in the front court. He has championship experience out of this world. He’s played with some of the greatest people. And not to mention, he is an impact player even at his age. I mean, sometimes age doesn’t really hinder people as much as we think. You look at a guy like Al Horford about to he’s he’s about to be 40 and yet he’s still looked at as an impactful player. You can look at Kevin Love like that. And the reason I say that is because Kevin Love still brings very good intangible to the game. And one thing about Kevin Love that I really appreciate, he has no problem playing a veteran role. He has no problem playing the role of a veteran. And that’s something that the Grizzlies really really need. That’s something that I think guys like Jiren Jackson Jr. and maybe even a Brandon Clark could use. I mean, imagine a Brandon Clark being mentored by Kevin Love. That’s that’s huge. Like we’re talking about a guy that’s that was a NBA allstar at one point, one of the best power force in the league. And I truly do I truly do think if you’re looking for serviceable people to join the team, I would not be I’m not upset at a Kevin Love signing. I’m really not. And I think you can definitely get him on the veterans minimum. Uh wouldn’t wouldn’t cost you much at all. And I I think the Grizzlies should go for it. I truly do think. Now, if they don’t, I’m not I’m not truly I’m not gonna be mad at it. But if they do go after it, they’ll see the vision that I’m trying to see and that’s something that I could really get behind. So, um, yeah, just kind of nudes in the buyout market. And I think a lot of teams are going to go after Kevin Love. One particularly probably being the Lakers because Lakers tend to go after buyout guys, especially a guy that’s played with alongside LeBron. So, I would say the Lakers, maybe the Cavaliers are people that are going to um target Kevin Love, but there’s going to be a team there’s going to be a team that signs him and he’s going to make a huge impact for him. So, um yeah, just something I noticed, but I really do kind of hope that we get to that uh possibility, you know. So, hopefully we see something. Uh but um kind of piggybacking off yesterday, I I read the comments. Uh some people a lot of people had some good things to say about Jock Landale and I looked at some footage. I read I looked at some footage, looked at what I need to see from him and I take back what I said. He is now I do agree that he is a serviceable be. I will not take that part away, but he brings a lot. He brings some good things to the table that I think he um I I think we we kind of missed what he really brings. Now, scoring wise, he can score inside and outside the paint. That’s that’s something I noticed. So, um definitely definitely going to appreciate that. That’s something I didn’t really know from him because he’s played off the bench majority of his career. So, um I would say hey I’m all for uh apparently last year last year he didn’t play much but in his minutes he shot 42% from three and 55% from the field you know the fact that I’ll be honest the fact that I missed over that that’s something I’ll give him that that is that is something and then he’s pretty he’s a pretty good rebounder can’t complain about that that’s something that the Grizzlies always need at that position because um over years Grizzlies getting killed build offensive rebounds really hurt them. Obviously, you know, really letting go of a guy like Stephen Adams definitely hurt the team and it was proven that it hurt the team. Uh, I get why they move Steven Adams, but it definitely did hurt the team. Um, but yeah, just rebounding is always is always a big concern with the Grizzlies and defensively he he really does that. He really is a pretty good defender. So, that’s something. So, this this pickup I’m actually leaning more towards and honestly I really am rooting for Jollandelle. I actually want him to get to a point where he’s looked at as a long-term option. Now granted, yes, when Zack Ed comes back, they’re probably going to give that spot back to Zack E. But having Jock Landale playing a role and seeing that he can step in at any time and change the pace, not change the pace of the game, but essentially make an impact in the game immediately. That makes me feel more comfortable about the signing. Um, so I’m I’m all for it. I didn’t know. I’ll be honest, I had a casual moment. I didn’t know he was that comparable to Jay Huff, but clearly I was wrong. And I’m glad that I’m wrong because that gives me hope that the Grizzlies saw something and truly got a steal from the free agency market. So, I’m really excited to see Chuck Landale’s fit. Obviously, beginning of the year, he’s going to have essentially the keys to the front court. So, I’m all for it. Um, like I said, probably probably going to play alongside Brandon Clark. But hey, that that gets, you know, a chance to really um really stretch out the floor. Although Brandon Clark at the four, that does bring some concerns. But only time will tell and only only we only we can see that. So, just got to wait until the season starts. But hey, I love it. I love it. And I’m glad that I was wrong about Jo Bandelle. Uh, but as for this edition of Grizz Daily, that’s a wrap. Uh, like I said, not much going on today. We’re kind of a We’re kind of in a dying period of free agency. We won’t really know anything. I mean, maybe a trade or two. The only people only teams that are really making noise right now are the Clippers. Other than that, I haven’t heard anything about any of the teams. Haven’t heard anything about players that we’ve mentioned on here. So, we’re probably in the dying parts of free agency. I don’t think it’ll pick up. Uh so, no telling what the Grizzlies are doing because no rumors or anything are out right now. So, we really just have to wait and see what time will tell. Zyon pullin stopped progressing
Refs wanted to go home
It looked like 3 to me they took long time looking,I think they didn't want to go into OT
I agree Zyon looks bad , but you doing nice job on the show, I like you better than some of the other ones
we need a veteran leader to help these guys cos sometimes last season they were all over the place and especially that phase were we lost three game winners in a row we need to learn to be patient and not rush
Kevin Love couldn’t play defense when he was 21, he was a massive liability when he was young and healthy, shopping the buyouts won’t change the direction of your team. There’s a reason he’s getting bought out. Let the Lakers have a retirement team take the court.
Kevin love, Bol Bol
