Jalen Green Talks Houston Trade To Phoenix, Role With Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks

Phoenix, I appreciate it. I’m happy to be in Phoenix, man. How you feeling about uh about being part of the Sun? I’m super excited. A great organization, great people. Um it’s going to be fun and uh the position we in. I think uh we’re going to surprise a lot of people and make a lot of noise. So, I’m curious when you look at just you started something with Houston like you were there when they were trying to figure it out and then part of them making an ascension and then you get traded. How how does that deal with that deal? I mean, it hurts. You know, Houston was is home to me and forever will be home to me. Um, you know, I started, you know, my NBA career there and I’ve, you know, built a lot in there in that situation. So, um, obviously it was sad to leave obviously, but it’s it’s a business though. You got to understand that when you coming into the NBA and uh I’m just thankful that you know I have the opportunity to play basketball again, you know, for another team that has been in the playoffs, been to the finals and you know, winning basketball in general. So, yeah. I’m curious just when you look at you and both, you can also score with the ball and the question of how can these two work together? Can you answer that for us? I mean, we are two people who are going to accept a double team and be able to play off each other. So when you look at something like that, it’s like we’re two people who know how to score the basketball. We know we’re two people who know how to attract the defense and everyone’s going to shape around us. So I mean when we’re doing something like that, you got to pick who you want to score tonight. And me and him both is going to be a deadly scoring duo no matter what the situation is. So it’s going to be fun. It’s going to be exciting. Um, you know, people going to say what they want to say, but this is a great opportunity for I think for myself and, you know, Debook is a winning player in general, so it’ll work out. Create a little bit of hunger in all teams. Uh, yeah, for sure. I mean, the hunger is already there. I made it to the playoffs already as it is. I may not have performed how I should have performed, but at the end of the day, the goal is to be in the playoffs every year, and I got a taste of it now, and there’s no reason I shouldn’t have had a goal to get back. What’s it like coming to a team that obviously wanted you in the train to get you, and you know, fuel for you, you know, fitting with them in the future? It feels good. You know, a team that is excited to have me, organization that’s excited to have me. Um, it’s a good feeling. um they understand and know what I could bring to the table and uh they they’re ready to capitalize on that just like I am. I’m ready to capitalize on the court and do what I got to do to help this organization. So um yeah, it’s a good feeling and it goes both ways. What’s kind of your early impressions of KN and and just the coaching staff and what you’ll be coach is amazing. Um he’s already been sending me film. he’s already been breaking down the offense that we fa to run and just what he needs for me and uh it’s it’s going to be a relationship that’s going to be built over the years. Um so yeah, I know what he wants from me and you know I know what he needs me to do and that’s what we going to do. J some of the questions already hit on it, but what did you learn specifically about like building up a program in Houston and what it takes to establish a culture, establish an identity like Phoenix wants to do this year? I just understand the winning side. Um try to coach me do you know he He didn’t installed into me that, you know, winning is more than just scoring the basketball. Um, defensively, playing hard, and, you know, just being in games through the whole game. Um, I learned that from over there, and I’m going to take that and carry it to Phoenix. So, um, just winning basketball in general is what we going to bring that here. A big part of your game is getting to the basket. How much pride do you take in being able to take anyone off the dribble and get to the get to the win? I take a lot of pride in it. Um, you know, we got we take it to the rim, we can still add a lot more to the game. We can add the mini, we can add the three. And I feel like I can get my three off at any point. So, got add the in between game now. So, um, it’s going to be exciting year. I’m excited for what’s to come. I’m excited to be at Phoenix Sun. It’s going to be good. How much is it to have Dylan with you along this journey that, you know, kind of just feel each other? Yeah. No, it’s good. I mean, that’s one person that was on the Rockets team that has pushed me and like motivated me to to keep working, get in the gym, watch film, and you know, I told him from the beginning to hold me accountable, and I think that’s what he’s done. Um, so just for him to come with me to Phoenix is is a big step and a big part for us to, you know, grow and and carry that leadership role over. So, I think it’s going I think it’s going to be really good. Um, I’m happy my brother’s with me, too. I didn’t go by myself. So yeah, it’s awesome. He’s one of those dogs that really gets after it on both ends. How valuable is it is a guy like that when you’re trying to change a culture and win? Super valuable. Um I mean you just seen what we did in Houston and 52 wins don’t come easy like that. So um he was a big part of that and um you know me and him both growing up over here we understood what it took to win last year. all the sacrifice and the dog mentality playing hard defensively, offensively um bringing that to Phoenix. I think it will help out and you know give uh Book a little bit of leeway so he could you know get some buckets too. So much of you talked to Deon and and kind of prepared notes and mapped out how this thing will look. I seen book out here and he called me when you know I was out in Phoenix trying to look for a house and stuff. Um but uh yeah, I I think from what I’ve read so far, just off, you know, his vibe and everything, he’s excited. Um he’s ready to, you know, do what we got to do this year and he understands like the situation we in right now. Uh people don’t expect us to, you know, do anything. People don’t expect us to come out to West at all. So I think the situation we in just like last year, Houston didn’t expect, they didn’t expect Houston to do none of that last year. So, it’s a difference. Jaylen, I saw you post on your story when you got here. There was like the photos of your family in the room and everything. Just what it meant to you to feeling welcome right away with a with a welcome like that. No, I felt the love for real and and that’s that’s a good feeling, bro. Like especially in this basketball world, confidence is probably 95% of the game and, you know, skill and everything comes after that. So just having the confidence behind them and them just feeding me that and just, you know, welcome me with open arms is a good feeling, you know, only make me play better and feel more comfortable. You know what I’m saying? So I appreciate all the love that they’ve been giving me and it’s it’s been good. Can that be a nice reset when you’re coming from a situation just a few days before where it’s like league league is a business kind of thing and then to see Yeah, the league is a business at the end of the day, but you know, you got to look at the glass half empty. Half full, I mean, half full. You got me looking at the glass half full. Um it’s a great opportunity for myself uh for the team and you know it’s new beginnings at the end of the day. I’m close to home, great organization, great people. Um you know I get to create everything that I’ve created over the last four years in Houston and bring it here and just show them what I’m capable of. So it’s going to be a good feeling. Young guys, if you had to choose one teammate to pick your tunnel fits for the rest of the season, who would you pick? Say it again. If you had to choose one teammate to pick your tunnel fits for the rest of the season, who would you pick? I’m not picking anybody to pick my tunnel fits. I got it. I dress myself. Serial soup. Damn. I ain’t cereal. I mean, I’m going to go soup. I just had soup recently. For fans not familiar with your fashion, how could you explain it? Uh, I wear pretty much everything, you know? I I switch it up. I like to try new things and um I like to make fashion statements and stuff. So um who got the camera right now? You get my fit right now if you want. We’re just doing some cool Nothing too crazy. We got the chrome chrome. Got the AP on the classic on the feet. We’re just chilling right now though. Yeah. You you were you were you were just in this position a few years ago. What did you see out of the young guys? Uh it’s it’s good bump. Uh everyone’s out there playing hard. I mean um my out take on it with everything is go out and do everything you got to do out there in summer league. Take all the shots. Get to the cup. Play hard. Get everybody involved and basically play you a point guard trying to get buckets. You know what I’m saying? Cuz when it get to the league, you’re going to have a role. You might not get the minutes you want. You know what I’m saying? So it’s like just get everything out right now to show everybody what you can do. And then when you get to the league now, you can focus on like one point in your game. Whatever the team needs from you. And if the team needs you to go all the way off, do that. But if the team needs you to get catch and shoot, play defense, you got to do that, too. So, just be ready to be bought into whatever the team needs you to do. That’s my last one. You got one thing that you want some fans to go watch? Um, man, I’m coming in. I’m excited. I’m ready to work and I’m ready to get us to the playoffs. That’s it.

The Kevin Durant trade from the Phoenix Suns brought in two new members in Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks from the Houston Rockets. What are the expectations with Devin Booker? Will Bradley Beal be out the door soon? How will Jordan Ott, Brian Gregory and other build around this young core?

  1. Dude has a picture perfect small forward offensive game. He’s undersized (I guess) his game on both ends would just blow up at SF getting fed. What a running mate for Book

  2. Suns fans have doubled when Jalen and Dillon got traded. We never wanted them to leave. ESPN is more excited about the trade than we are lol

  3. Damn….. We just gave them 2 doggs lol damn. It's not his fault for his first years with his organization he was dealt with. Wrong place wrong time (sort of thing) He got a good teammate and roots heading out of here along side w/ Dylan Brooks

  4. He sounds mature here… grateful for the opportunity he had in Houston and now in Phoenix. Good Luck to both Jalen and Brooks. Will miss them in Houston

  5. Jalen will do great things. His maturity stepped up big time and still gives everyone in H Town props for his growth. Trade is what it is, but I'll miss you both J and DB in HTown . It is a great loss ! Go get it in PHX !

  6. Jalen put on some weight (in a good way) I see! As a Rockets fan im rooting for you and will definitely be watching Suns games to see what yall do. Keep working big dog. Much love from the H! 🫡

  7. Ngl seeing the Sun's Summer league team win their first game got me more excited than this 2 SG experiment that they're trying rehash again, this time with JG. Im not a fan of inefficient guards that dont have anything else to offer but flashy plays and highlight reels. This kid has been a starter for most of his career and has not seen any jump in progression when it comes to overall IQ of the game and gravity. Tunnel vision in terms of driving the basketball, disengaged when the offense is not predicated to him, and lack of effort on defense, so much so that IMe Udoka has benched him multiple times. Can he get better? sure, but very rare slim chance turning the corner in year 5 especially at tbe guard position. If he has the same results like he did in houston, the trade is a bit more harming knowing his contract.

  8. AS a native Houstonian, This saddens me. Im gonna miss you bro. Ball out and show them that the Rockets made a big mistake.

  9. Suns fan….for a long time I had alot of envy for Houston because they had Jalen and Dillon, I could only dream to have one on the Suns and now they got them both. Plus some other nice additions. I hope KD stays healthy in Houston, he will make an impact immediately.
