Sixers NEW Trade Target… Bring Back KJ Martin? | VJ Edgecombe Provides UPDATE On His Injury!

Sixers summer league in Vegas is officially underway. No VJ Edgecomb still out with injury, but today we get an update from the man himself. Also, one familiar Sixers face could be back up for trade. So, should the team go out and reacquire him? What would it take? Is it realistic? And does it make this team better? We’re going to talk about all that and more coming up. But welcome in to Philly Take with RB. I’m RB. Do me a favor. Make sure you have that notification bell on so you don’t miss any of the videos or live streams. Now, like I said yesterday, I was going to go live for summer league, but no VJ, no Dylan Harper, and I am glad I did not. I watched up until maybe mid third quarter. The Sixers were getting eviscerated. And you see right here, they lose by 41 points. I’ll tell you what, if VJ doesn’t come back to play in summer league, what’s the point of even watching? This team got blown away. More on that later. But I’ll tell you what really cracked me up last night was David Jones Garcia. Do you know who that is? Do you remember who that is? 24 points in 18 minutes last night. This guy was a flamethrower in the first half. He was playing like Jason Tatum and he led the Spurs to a 41point drastic win. You may not remember him. You may not recall him. Why? Because his name used to be David Jones. That’s right. The Sixers had this guy on their team last year. He was a two-way contract. He got waved before the season. I think they picked him up as an undrafted. And David Jones switched his name to David Jones Garcia. Became an absolute hooper after one year in Europe. And this guy was cooking last night. 12 points on four for five shooting, three for four from three in the first 6 and a half minutes, a forward 6’6. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up. Now, at the end of the day, is this guy going to go on to have a great NBA All-Star season? Probably not, right? This is summer league. But you have to admire the growth. I heard Tim Leggler on the broadcast last night talking about David Jones saying he’s been the most impressive summer league player. 24 points. 25 points. 25 points. Maybe he could be something. It would go right in line with the Sixers that have been waved or cut. They go to the Spurs and they become pretty solid players, whether it’s Champenni or Charles Bassie or whoever else. So, that’s where we’re at. Let me know your thoughts on David Jones. Did the Sixers make another mistake? But let’s talk about another forward, another guy that used to be on the 76ers roster. His name is KJ Martin. And I want to hear from you down in the comments. Should the Sixers go out and trade for KJ Martin? I’m going to give you my thoughts on the other side. We’ll talk about whether this is realistic. But real quick, a shout out to our sponsor of today’s video. Do you ever look at your to-do list and get overwhelmed with everything piling up throughout the day? Well, that’s where Incloud comes in, where you can literally be in the clouds. A quick gummy turns the overwhelm spiraling into cozy and calm. And shout out to them for sponsoring today’s video. Float above the stress and vibe out with the cloud. All right. So, we get this report from Evan Siderei. He says the Jazz are open to trading KJ Martin who is on a non-g guaranteed $8 million expiring contract. KJ averaged 6.4 4 points and 2.9 boards off the bench this season. A future second round pick would likely get a deal done for Utah as they aim for a top 2026 draft pick. I’ll be honest, man. What the Utah Jazz are doing right now should be investigated. Like they are literally clearing their entire roster, the season hasn’t even started. The preeason hasn’t even started. And they’re already officially tanking for next year, which they came into the off season during a press conference and said they were not going to do. So, they draft Ace Bailey, they have all these young guys, and they’re already trying to get the top pick next year because he is also from Utah as well. So, they would like to keep him home. But, nonetheless, KJ Martin is a guy that is absolutely expendable. Like we just said, $8 million expiring contract should the Sixers go out and make this trade. In my opinion, it doesn’t hurt. When KJ was here, he showed some great flashes for a young athletic piece who was continuing to grow and develop. Not anywhere near a solid starter yet, but a decent rotation piece. And this guy played a good amount of games over the last couple of years with the Sixers. They ended up dumping him at the deadline as a move to get under the luxury tax, but overall in limited opportunity whenever his number was called on, I thought he played okay. And like I said, he’s athletic. He’s a rim runner, right? Lob threat. He still has to work on the outside shot, but he started to show more polish specifically on the defensive end. He was making some strides and then the Sixers just got rid of him. He had a few injuries here and there and he I think he was traded multiple times. Then he ends up in Utah and Utah is obviously trying to tank like the Sixers were this season. So, at one point, this guy was a very young, exciting piece. And if you go back to his days in Houston when he actually had a solidified role that was consistent, he was putting up some decent production for a very young guy, right? 12.7 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, and he shot almost 32% from three back in 22. Back in his rookie year, 9.3 points, 5.4 boards, shot 36 1/2% from three. It’s not anywhere near a finished product, but I think with more reps, this guy can get more comfortable in his role in the floor. And when I look at it, overall, the Sixers still do not have a starting power forward. So, they need to try as many options as they can. There are others that I would prefer them to go out and trade for, but if KJ Martin is the fallback plan, $8 million expiring contract, and all you have to do is give up a future second round pick, I wouldn’t mind that at all. Plus, he might even get bought out. Who knows? The Jazz are trying to clear their entire roster, so you might be able to get him for nothing. I think the fan base was really excited about this guy at one time, and he definitely had a few points where he showed real flashes. And the best part overall is that he is familiar with the team, with the coach, right? Who knows if he wants to come back here, but, you know, it’s not like a completely new situation. Like, he understands how to play with some of these teammates. And you know, I think it would be a little bit easier for him to transition back into Philly. So, give me your thoughts on KJ Martin. But speaking of a guy we’re also becoming familiar with or were becoming familiar with after one game, VJ Edgecom is still out with injury and he has missed three consecutive games, including the first summer league game. And everybody had a lot of backlash from me on my last couple videos. RB, you’re overreacting. They’re just resting him. He’s not playing. Blah blah blah. Well, now it feels like it’s even more of a serious injury and they upgraded it from a thumb contusion to a thumb sprain. And hearing the word Sixers rookie injury and re-evaluated in the same sentence is very traumatizing at this point. I feel like we go through this with every rookie player. But hopefully this guy can either get on the floor for one of these summer league games or get back for the preseason because you don’t want to have a situation here where this guy misses an extensive amount of time and you don’t get to see him build on what he did in that first game. Here was VJ last night hanging with Jarro McCain. Good for team morale, right? Team chemistry. I like the fact these guys are getting comfy with each other. But VJ Edgecomb also spoke to the broadcast and he said his thumb is getting better. He hopes to play in summer league and Sixer fans are worried that another injury to a first round draft pick is on the horizon. Now again, it’s just the curse at this point. It’s frustrating. It’s annoying. Not mad at VJ. I don’t know how he got hurt. They never talked about it. Maybe he was on one of those dunks or I don’t know. But he was out there shooting around with the team before summer league. So maybe, just maybe, he will be okay. I mean, obviously, you don’t want him to get an even worse injury, right, and and get into the season and he’s missing time. You need this dude. You really, really need an addition here, and you need him to be on the floor and be healthy. So, I’m personally cool with keeping him out of summer league. It’s just annoying because you saw him play one game and it was like a a new life with this team and the fan base, and all of a sudden, he’s out again. Ultimately, it’ll come down to the health of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and all them. But for once, let’s see our rookie actually stay healthy and play. They said he’s working with the medical staff, which again, how much can you really trust the medical staff? But ultimately, I like the fact that he keeps a positive attitude and he keeps his head high. And once again, he’s always mature. They talked him on the broadcast last night a few minutes. He he was asked how he wants to impact the Sixers this season. He says, quote, “Go out there and play hard, play defense, make wideopen shots, and impact the game.” Then he was asked what he’s most excited for, and he said, quote, “Getting to play with superstars.” So again, I think he’s willing to kind of weave his way into any role he can, whether that’s helping out on the glass, defensive end, you know, point of attack, defense, shooting, whatever it is, he’s going to make an impact. But to make an impact, you have to stay on the floor. And it just sucks that after one game, right, and all the hype, all the excitement. Last night, we saw Cooper Flag go up against Bronny James and then you get the night game at 10 p.m. and Dylan Harper and VJ Edgecom both dealing with injury and don’t play. So, hope and pray that this guy comes back fully healthy and he’s good to go soon. And we’ll see just like another, you know, normal case of the Sixers rookie injury. We’ll we’ll see how long it takes. You know, who knows? But give me your thoughts down below. What should the Sixers do? Should they go out and make a trade for a power forward like KJ Martin? Give me your thoughts down below. Appreciate everybody for tapping in. As always, be sure to like, comment, and subscribe. And I’ll catch youall on the next one. Peace.

  1. So the Sixers can pay KJ 8 million but couldn't pay Yabu 6 mil per year for two years? Also Jones was a beast last year in the Summer. I was disappointed when he was waived.

  2. 😮I dont think VJ is hurt because in that interview he said I hope they let me play so that tells me hes fine the Sixers are just holding him outv

  3. let me gets this right. it ok when sixers tank but not ok if Utah is getting ready to tank. Sixers cant talk at all. Two word THE PROCESS

  4. let me get this straight. We have to trade picks to get off KJs bad contract and now you want us to trade another pick to get him back?? Horrible take RB

  5. I had no idea that Jones Garcia was David Jones from Memphis who I was a big fan of during draft. I too was mad when they let him go I had no idea he changed his name to Jones Garcia.
This is what will happen with Izam Almansa is they don’t quit playing around and give him real minutes because from a tools and skills standpoint he is arguably the best big on our summer league roster.

  6. OH NO!!! Not a thumb sprain!!! What ever will we do!!! C’mon man this is a nothing burger

  7. I’ll take Kj… he’s young & he could hoop ..he just need consistent playing time ‼️

  8. VJ probably not even hurt sixers just scared to take chances. If they lose Grimes VJ has to be healthy.

  9. Summer league sixers has no playmaking Hood Shanfino can’t create for the other guys. Even guys who can score struggle when the guards don’t set anyone up

  10. VJ isn’t hurt. They saw enough in the 28-10 first game. Shutting him down so he doesn’t have a real injury in a summer league game. It’s just posturing.

  11. Hood-Schifino went 0-4, 0 assist and had the most fouls. Would have fouled out in non SL games. I want this bum gone like pronto!!! 🤬

  12. KJ would be a great fit. Philly teams are successful when they have Philly guys. Hard hat and lunch pale guys. They're the only ones who can survive Philadelphia. Allen Iverson didn't win a thing here but he played his heart out and had no fear and he's going to be loved here forever.

  13. Man i would love us to get KJ starting PF imo, because he defends rebounds and can shoot a little bit. Also doesnt need ball in his hands unlike other starters ( Embiid,PG,Maxey, McCain,)

  14. Just hit $28K today from picks!
Started with $500 last week — all the game really paid off 🙌💸
Appreciate the real ones sharing knowledge 💯

  15. Loving the hat. Sixers need to change their branding. That red, white and blue doesn't rly connect with Philly culture, today.
