Kings Issac Jones on playing with mask, mentoring rookies in Summer League 2025

days ago. I had to celebrate, but I could have waited. I ain’t do nothing, man. You know, got a little food, hit the bed. That was it. Got ready for today. What was uh what was the focus heading into game two? Looking back on game one, just go out there, be even more aggressive, prove the point. Like, we want to run teams and we know we got the talent to do it. So, we didn’t play that well the first game, so we got to play better this one. So, focus on like the goal here is winning the whole thing. Yeah. What do you think about your performance in game one? How was it kind of dealing with the uh mask? Oh, I had to take it off. I started getting mad. Uh it’s kind of hard to play with just not for me, you know. I tried it. I don’t know. I couldn’t do it. So, once I took it off, I was able to turn it up a notch. Uh for me, that wasn’t a good game. Got to bounce back today even better. What made it hard to play with? I think it was just like all messed up and I felt like something was sticking out of my face, you know? I always had to adjust it. Like I I bet people watch the film like I’m adjusting every time. That’s with with Max. It’s kind of an interesting player, you know, seven foot, 71, whatever three level. What do you think of his versatility and how his skill set allows you to play alongside? Oh, it’s great. Um, it’s like he gives us like a seamless offense, you know, because he can play inside and out. So, if he’ll pop, I can just go in and take his spot. If I pop, he can do the same thing. So, I think it makes the offense a lot smoother. He’s a great player and great offensive skill set. So, keep him around for a long time. Mason is sort of the vet out here. You got to talk to him. You talk about how he loves Sacramento and loves to stick around. I mean, just kind of what has he meant to you throughout last year? No, I love Mason because he holds me accountable. Like yesterday, he knows I didn’t play my best. So, you know, he the first person to tell me that I think he’s a great vet. Um, great person on and off the court and uh he can definitely get us going and he deserves out there. You know, he’s put a lot of work in. When you say he didn’t play, where are you kind of picking apart? I don’t think I was aggressive enough at all. um passed some shots and I just got to play more and then he sort of it felt similar not very fresh out playing the right way. Is that a relatable thing to you? You know, you come in and you don’t want to step on people’s. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Um especially as a rookie, you know, like you say, you don’t want to step on people’s but at the end of the day, you just play your game and uh we want him to be aggressive. He can score. You feel score, too. If that’s something you’re good at, you got to just put that in the back of your mind and go get it. And we’re teammates. Where do you see him effectively being able to score set up guys? Is it just that aggressiveness? Yeah, definitely. I think he’s strong. He has a good frame, you know, and I think if he looks to score first and then score a couple baskets and then defensive glass and then start being able to do everything else in what stands out Chicago tonight, uh they got some athletes time off threats and just do something compete. So, we’re going to play harder. We’re going to pressure them and walk out of there with a W. I guess last thing with Max coach that didn’t replace him. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of talk about that a little bit. Yeah. All the time. All the time. He got it lucky. They were a lot uh a lot softer on him than they were me. So I let him know that every day. But uh he’s a great coach and I mean you can see it that he learned a lot of stuff that I learned and he applied.

Sacramento Kings second-year big man Mason Jones spoke with reporters Saturday morning following their Las Vegas Summer League shootaround.
