Luka Garza Explains Why He Signed with Celtics | Full Interview

I mean, I think there’s a lot of things. Obviously, uh, the franchise speaks for itself. Um, and just the winning and the history, and I’m a big basketball junkie, so obviously the the chance to to put on that uniform and play for the Celtics is attractive enough, but obviously, uh, there’s a lot of opportunity, especially in the front court and with the guys that we have and and, you know, I think they the front office and and the coaches believe in me and what I can do and, um, so I just saw that as a really good, you know, uh, really good for me at this stage in my career. What’s been the messaging so far from Joe and the coaching staff? Yeah, I mean I think everyone’s just excited in general. Um excited for where we are. You know, kind of been the hunted for, you know, a long time and now it’s we can be the hunter and and go after teams and and obviously there’s so much opportunity in the East just with everything going on. You uh were obviously in a deep front court in Minnesota. Uh very tough to earn minutes. How important was that opportunity that you just brought up and how big a priority was that for you this summer? Yeah, it was huge. You know, I feel like I’ve learned so much, you know, from my time in Minnesota from being around those type of guys, but I I I think it was time to to find that opportunity to get on the floor. You know, I I felt like, you know, in the limited opportunities I was able to get, I was able to show well and and uh you know, maximize those. But, you know, for me, it was a priority for me to get to get to somewhere where I could get more of those opportunities. NBA, what do you feel like you bring to an NBA? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, there’s obviously always adjustments you have to make every level you go through. Uh, but but for me, I think, you know, number one, just uh, you know, the skill that I have more than anything is playing hard. And I think that helps me. It makes up for a lot of the things that I don’t have. Um, but obviously through, you know, being in a league four years, I I I’ve learned a lot more and have a better understanding, a better IQ and angles, different things that can help me out there, especially on the defensive end. And then offensively, um, you know, I know that that’s a side that, you know, uh, you know, I have a lot of confidence in that, you know, I could really help a team in many ways, just create good offense, create good flow within it, um, and always be able to help, uh, get shots out there, whether it’s for myself or my teammates, you know, through screening, passing, whatever it is. Uh, I just feel like that’s a strength of mine that I’ve been able to show um in the times that I’ve had. Did you talk to Josh about coming? Did you talk to him about signing here? No, I didn’t. You know, so it was it was a surprise, but you know, I called him right away once I saw the news and and uh we were both excited. I mean, we’ve been through a lot together. you know, we went when he was a rookie, you know, we went down to Iowa together, uh, to play for the Iowa Wolves and went through training camp and then kind of made it up together uh, to the Timberwolves and, you know, started to see opportunities, both of us. And, you know, both of us quite honestly really did produce when we did get those opportunities, but just didn’t see too many of them, just because of how stacked of a roster we had. Uh, so it’s cool to see and, you know, have someone come with you, you know, that you’re have a good relationship and, you know, I feel like me and him have always connected on the floor, uh, just playing with each other. So, it’s going to be cool to to have the opportunity to continue that if possible. Have you had any conversations with any of the current Celtics players? I know you showed up at the facility last week. Yeah, I mean, I I I got to see I haven’t met everybody. Uh, but I got to see a lot of the guys. I mean, George Nyang obviously is someone I know just, you know, being Iowa State guy and and I’ve just known him through, you know, uh, being in the league. He’s always been a, you know, really good example for me of of how he’s just made his his career work and how he’s done so well. And you know, obviously there’s there’s seen the rookies and all the guys that are around Boston and I saw Neias and and uh you know, when I was out there. So, I’ve met some of the guys, not everybody, but I’m excited to meet the rest of the crew and and get to work. Thank you, sir. Nice to meet

  1. What number is Luka Wearing? This guy could be a steal if he just plays all out effort on defense. Skilled offensive player and fearless.

  2. Low key psyched about him, Queta, Bassey, Amari Williams. And the rest of the team. Just need a few guys to hit this year and we could compete. I like the depth and youth and potential of many of them.
