Indiana Pacers – Isaiah Jackson extended! Myles Turner bitter & childish! IU Basketball busy!

We’re going to talk about the Indiana Pacers first and talk about the extension of Isaiah Jackson. Three years, $21 million. The gang of four to replace Miles Turner is complete. You got James Weisman, you got Jay Huff, you’ve got Isaiah Jackson, you you got guys who are going to be able to find a way to to recreate 15 12 and 6 and 1/2. Isaiah Jackson could get the six and a half all on his own. That’s very close to his career average. So, I I got no worries about the center position for the Indiana Pacers moving forward. Really, none. I do have worries about the point guard position for the Pacers. It’s not all roses. It’s not like, hey, let’s book our our flights to wherever the NBA finals are also going to be played. That’s not where we are. But that point guard position, that’s kind of the glaring hole. and you hope that Andrew Neart’s going to be able to fill it or that somehow someway Kevin Pritchard’s going to be able to go out and get a point guard who can at least augment what Andrew Nehard is going to bring to that position. We’re going to talk about that. We’ll talk about Miles Miles Turner. His bitterness continues to flow. His childishness continues to flow. He can’t stop it. He can’t help it. He can’t help but be who he is. And that is a childish human being. And that’s what Milwaukee, the city, Bucks fans as a whole are going to figure out over the next four years. By the end of the four years, they’re going to be scratching their heads saying, “You know what? Those guys in Indianapolis that told us about this, they were right as rain.” Absolutely 100% childishness from Miles Turner. We’ll talk about that a little bit. The Indiana Fever uh set records yesterday, 64 points in the first half and it really should have been more. Like the defense for Dallas was so suspect, so bad and the shooting so good for the Fever that they trucked the uh uh what are they? Oh, the Wings. They trucked the Wings yesterday in in a way that made franchise history. And Caitlyn Carr correct in her postgame assessment that you know what when that team gets rolling and has five teams in double figures they are going to be really really hard to beat. We’re going to talk about the Cubs a little bit too. Cubs a 4 to1 winner yesterday at Yankee Stadium, vanquishing the the hurt done to the Cubs franchise in both the 1932 and 1938 World Series, which none of us were even close to being alive to recall. Uh my dad this year, next month would turn what would he be 96. He would barely remember the Cubs uh being swept in 1938. Would have no working memory whatsoever of the 1932 series when both Babe Ruth and Lou Garri uh really powered maybe one of the best offenses in the history of baseball. Cubs refuse to pitch around Ruth and Garri. What are you going to do? You know what I mean? I mean, my god, if you’re not going to pitch around Ruth and Garrick, what are you doing? This is Breakfast with Kent for Monday, best deal day, July 14th, 2025. Uh you could also if you’re an Ohio State Buckeyes will I I’ve already announced who’s on this but we will uh just for dramatic purposes say a mystery Ohio State Buckeye has signed the opposite side of this mini helmet that doesn’t look so many if we put it up here. Look at how big that helmet is. Uh we will give that away. One of these prizes today is Steve Berlin uh football later today. But you got to be a subscriber to win. And the phrase that pays, we’re going back to Adios Miles because I I can’t say it enough. I am pleased as hell that the Pacers are rid of Miles Turner. I got to tell you the truth. I I No love lost for me. He says there’s no love lost between the franchise and him. What a child. Uh hit the like button. that. Oh, anyway, what you got? You got to subscribe to be eligible to win a prize. And then you’ve got to use the audio smiles in order to enter. That’s your entry. And a little bit later today, we will draw from all the entries over the last week and a half, two weeks, all the entries will draw 10 tickets, put them on the fabulous prize wheel during the show this afternoon. We will spin the fabulous prize wheel and somebody is going to win one of those prizes. There you go. Hit the thumbs up because that’s that’s what polite people do. I like every video I watch on YouTube. You should, too. And if you want to make a donation, make a donation. No big whoop. But make sure and include a uh a question or a comment that will lift the level of discourse on the channel. All right, let’s talk about the Indiana Pacers. Uh Isaiah Jackson, he with another Pacer with a recovering uh Achilles tendon. He had the Achilles tear, then surgery to repair it, and he’s back on the beam or will be. And so the Pacers signed him to a three-year $21 million extension. That’s a lot of money. Uh and and you hope that Isaiah it is. I 7 million. We have We have so skewed our way of thinking about the NBA and about professional sports that we think $7 million a year is cheap for a backup center in all likelihood in the NBA. $7 million a year. Whatever you do for a living, you would probably enjoy making $7 million a year a hell of a lot more than you enjoy making whatever it is that you make today. Isaiah Jackson is a superior athlete who’s figuring out how to play the center position in the NBA. He is going to be he you kind of had to have him. So, that’s a good thing. And I like Isaiah Jackson. I think he’s a good player and and a guy who with James Wisman and Jay Huff are going to be able to man that uh center position the start one of them is going to be the starter and is going to do a good job for this team and uh we we will see exactly which and Tony Bradley’s in there too. Uh we don’t talk about Tony Bradley a lot. He’s a guy who’s going to come in. Tony Bradley is and he’s not going to kill you, right? He’s not going to lift you a bunch, but he’s not going to make mistakes that kill you. And you got to have a guy like that playing backup center. People list him as a starting center for the Pacers. I don’t see that at all. I think he’s a really good backup. One of the other three guys is going to be the starter. Tony Bradley may be the first backup. We shall see. Uh Miles Turner making more noises over the weekend saying there’s there’s no love lost between Miles Turner and and the team. Miles Turner continues to overevaluate his importance to the Indiana Pacers. Like the Pacers are are gonna walk around in circles mumbling to themselves, “How do we get along without Miles Turner through this entire off season?” That process has stopped for whatever period of time it took for Kevin Pritchard to get over Miles Turner signing with the Bucks. He’s over it. Chad Buchanan over it. Rick Carile over it. You don’t need Miles Turner. What you need is a really competent center to do the things athletically necessary at the center position. Stretch five. Great. Nice to have. But Miles Turner, the baggage that he brought with that just not worth telling you the truth. Uh a legend in his own mind. He does hyper evaluate his importance in the NBA and in the minds of of the Indiana Pacers as an organization and Pacers fans. We’re over it. Done. Enjoy Milwaukee. Milwaukee fans. Enjoy Miles. Have a great time. Um, and the Pacers screwed nothing up. Herb Simon is frugal. That’s fair. Cheap? No. What the Pacers did was move on from a personality here. Here’s what Miles Turner said. He said that he sent a text when the news broke about his agreeing to the signing because he didn’t want his guys to hear it, his former teammates to hear it via social media. Okay, that’s fine. He said a couple of guys responded. that kind of silence in a response according to Miles Turner that is uh that is not the way these guys operate too terribly often. It speaks volumes about the level of respect or lack thereof from teammates for Miles and and good for Miles. You know what? $107 million over four years. It’s going to spend nights and it’s going to put Miles Turner in a position to do exactly what he wants with his life and that’s start his own business, be the CEO and run it. And that’s great. I think he’s going to do a good job at that. I think he can do that. And this money is going to uh aggregate with 140 he’s already made to about a quarter of a billion dollars. And after taxes, that money is going to be able to be applied to that venture. And that’s wonderful. Good for him. There’s nothing personal between the city of Indianapolis and Miles Turner. Pacers fans, nobody’s going to hate. I don’t hate Miles Turner. I got nothing personal against the guy. I want him to succeed. I want him to succeed Milwaukee. I just knew that the Pacers aren’t going to succeed or wouldn’t succeed with him here. that you don’t win with a guy like Miles Turner. You just don’t. But I’m happy for him. Good for him. Uh Indiana University basketball coaches all over the place in the southeastern United States, North Augusta, Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia, uh South Carolina, Richmond, Virginia. They were watching players all over the place, trying to build relationships with people who fit the culture. I hope for Indiana basketball. You got to build a culture. You do that by setting standards and then disciplining to standards. So hopefully the Hooers are able to do that and and Darren Dere gets that started this year, but he’s got to build relationships in 26, 27, and 28. That job has started. They’re about four months in in getting that job getting that thing rolling. And so we’ll see what happens with Indiana. But I’m kind of bullish on the Hooers this coming year and in the future because what what Darren Deere continues to say is that Indiana basketball is going to be about something. This team in this program for the last nine years has been about nothing specific. There is no there nothing qualitatively that you would point to Indiana and say this is what they do. Indiana football different Indiana football. This is what they do. We know what that is. Indiana basketball, nothing like that. And you have to have that thing. Who are you as a program? Darren Deere has got to answer that. And then he’s got to go out and recruit pieces that fit it. Not the best guys, not top 20 guys all over the place. People who fit the culture. First qu Quality over quality of culture over quality of player. Make sense? Diligence over talent, but talent still important. Uh the Fever really, really good. They seem to find their footing with Caitlyn yesterday. Uh 64 points in the first half and it really should have been more. They missed a bunny late. They could have got it to 66. I really wanted to see him score 70 in that first half. I know. like 64 is a record. How about we just call it a day there and we’re happy about it. Uh they win 10283 over Dallas. So going into the uh at the end of this home uh home stand, they played their best basketball. Now they go on the road for a couple and then it’s the all-star break in Indianapolis. And isn’t that going to be fun? Uh Clark with 13 points, uh 14 points, 13 assists, five steals. You had Mitchell with 20. Uh Howard 18, Boston 17, Sophie Cunningham with 13. 30 team assists on 40 uh made buckets. They’re at the Sun tomorrow night. And then they finish up the first half against the Liberty. Nice. Cubs took two of three in New York against the Yankees. Pitching was really good. Imanagi yesterday was terrific over seven strong innings. They are 5739 at the break. The Brewers keep winning. They’ve won seven straight. They’re just one game back. Should be a really exciting second half. Let’s celebrate some birthdays, shall we? Duke Burus celebrating a birthday. Billy Clark, Bob Weaver, Jared Morris, the great Jared Morris. Uh Chris Knox celebrating a birthday. The great Chris Knox. Sarah Sullivan Newsome. Happy birthday. Uh Rick Wolf, Kelly Antcliffe. Happy birthday, Ben Lesie and Nikki Johnson May. Happy birthday. If today’s your birthday, you celebrate like hell. If it’s not your birthday, you celebrate somebody else. That’s best done with an honest and specific compliment. Have a great day. Enjoy yourself. Lift people up. Don’t pull each other down. Have a great time. Do Pacers fans watch the summer games? I will watch summer games until I get bored. I know they got another one uh this afternoon into like 6:00 tonight. I think it’s on ESPNU. I will watch uh unless I see that it’s all gone south and nobody’s playing any defense because I’m not going to insult my own intelligence by exposing it to that level of basketball. Does that make sense? But we like summer league basketball. We’ll It is Indiana, man. We’ll watch basketball of any type. The basketball tournament coming up gonna have the IU alums, the Butler alums at Hankle this week. This week should be outstanding fun.

  1. The Pacers are a train wreck at center. We have three second and third string players and some fans are cheering…just plain stupid.

  2. 7 Mil = $583/month, $135k/wk, $19k/day – also $85k/game, if plays in every game, more if he doesn’t.

  3. Myles Turner is acting like criticism doesn't come with the territory of being a highly paid professional ball player.

  4. Nembhard is a really good ball handler. The question I ask is can he run an offense? He’s got to play smart and make good decisions with the ball. I am honestly pretty confident in his ability. At least in the short to medium term while Hali recovers.

  5. adios myles….just a side comment….why is it when I click a thumbs up the number stays the same?
