The Spurs Roster is DEEP but WHAT Starting Line-Up!?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Spurs fans, it is a good time to be a Spurs fan. What is up, San Antonio Spurs fans? Welcome to TSR Sports. Doing an original video today about what the Spurs starting rotation should be. Our bench is deep, but I’m seeing a lot of different um feedback on what the starting lineup would be. I thought, let’s talk about that amongst ourselves. I’m going to show a bunch of different lineups, give my two cents in the end on which starting lineup I think the Spurs will go with. While we’re going over these starting lineups, I do want to let you know you’re not going to see Carter Bryant, Kelly Olick, or Jordan Mclofflin in the starting lineup or in the main 10-man rotation. I think Carter is going to start his time off in Austin. His defenses look fantastic at times, but to get the minutes and work on his offense, start in Austin, get the playing time. Kelly will be as an as needed basis, and Jordan Mclofflin will be likely a garbage time player. No shade to be thrown, but that’s just going to be his role, but hey, that role is needed, too. All right, let’s get into the projected starting lineups for our Spurs, and this is the one I see the most. This is ESPN’s depth chart. This was shown during the summer league games, but this is our starting lineup likely for next season. Darn Fox, Dylan Harper, Deon Mel, Harrison Barnes, Victor Webyama. When I first look at the starting lineup, I’m like, defensively that could be a little rough. team’s unders sized, which is something we’ve been saying for feels like forever. But there could be a, you know, a little little caveat to this starting lineup is Dylan Harper, isn’t that right? Dylan Harper’s defense may be better than advertised in college. Sure, we only saw what 16 or 17 minutes in his summer league debut, but that shot block was highlight reel worthy. He was he was disruptive at times. Maybe he’s going to be a better defender with San Antonio than we’re expecting coming out of college would certainly shore up this the defense in this starting lineup. As far as floor spacing, the cell inconsistent but can shoot the three. We got Barnes shooting three. Obviously, WHMY, I say this a lot, if Fox get back to his normal form of around 36 37% and Harper can be better than advertised, then you know, this could be an offensive lineup that cooks for the Spurs. When I look at the bench, all right, one of the big issues with the bench is that they gave up points at regular as soon as WHMY came out of the, you know, came out of the rotation. This is a good defensive lineup. Sorry Luke, I cut most of you off, but you know, you got Luke, a one of the best rim protectors, I believe, per 36 minutes in the NBA. Zan’s a strong defender. Champeny’s no slouch. Castle has his ups and downs, but I think he’s going to be a better defender this year. The weak link here is my man Kell Johnson, uh, essentially traffic on defense. Hey, it is what it is, but I think I think this could work. But my concern here with this rotation is the current rookie of the year and your fourth overall pick is de I guess taken as demotion to bench. I know Mano Genobboli. I know I know. And then you got one of your core players in Jeremy Sewing coming off the bench too. Both players expected to be starters. Now Castle’s still going to get his minutes off the bench. I fully expect him to get 30 minutes if this situation plays out. But I don’t know if I’m down with this rotation. Luckily, we have a whole bunch more to go over. Rotation number two, we’ve now swapped out Harper and Vasel. They are now on the bench and you got Castle and Sohan getting promoted to the starting lineup. Again, we’ve got two solid defenders in the starting lineup and Sohan and WBY. Castle possibly will be a very very good defender this year. We should have some decent rebounding with this lineup as we have some size with both Barnes and So being at least 6’8. I can’t tell if so 68 or 69. I see different heights for him, but we got some size out there. But the floor spacing is going to be an issue. My biggest concern with this lineup is Castle and Sohan’s three-point shooting or lack thereof. We did every game together on this channel last year called all 82 regular season games plus preseason. I’m so proud of that. And so many times you saw defenders sag off Castle or someone and just leave them open like and just kind of hover around Wemby. I don’t want to see that again. Looking on the bench, it feels kind of somewhat balanced between scoring and defense. But the issue here now looking at this is now you’ve got your second overall pick coming off the bench. Usually those guys start in year number one. There’s a reason they’re the second overall pick. They’re good enough to start right away. And then you have your $27 million guy in Dumbell on the bench as well. All right. Don’t worry. Things are going to get positive. I know it sounds like a little maybe gloom and doom, but there there’s there’s definitely the chariot. There’s there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. All right. Lineup number three, we switch things around again. This is the the youth core lineup. I don’t know what you want to call it, but when you look at this lineup, Spurs fans, this is all the Spurs top 10 picks in the last four years from WBY to Harper. And then Darren Fox, our big trade last, well, actually, no, it was this year was earlier this year. My goodness, time flies. So, our ninth overall pick in 2022, the last man standing out of the 2022 draft class. Victor Webyama, the consensus by far number one overall pick in 2023. Stefon Castle number four overall pick in 24. Dylan Harper the number two overall pick in this year’s draft. That that’s crazy when you look at that. That’s four high well yeah three high lottery picks out of those five players in the starting lineup. But this would be a small lineup and the floor spacing could be disastrous. this would be the goal someday that these four can pull, you know, they would work together on the floor because they’re all young. Fox not 21, 20, 19, whatever. He’s not the youngest of the guys, but he’s still young. But this would be the goal, wouldn’t it? That this five right here, the Fantastic Five where their Fantastic Four young core work together and make it cook. Don’t see this happening. Not right away at least. But end goal maybe something like this. So, I don’t think that lineup would happen, but it might happen in portions this season, but not likely. All right. Hey, you never know. Could we see the Spurs shock a lot of people? Maybe not some of you because some of you said it’ll happen. You TSR, I believe it, but could we see Twin Towers light? WBY starting at the four, which he’d be a huge four, and Cornet starting at the five. Holy protection in this starting lineup. And definitely one of the biggest lineups we’ve had in I don’t know how long. I don’t see this happening either, but never say never. All right, TSR, what’s the point here? You’re showing all these lineups. You’re talking about the things that work that don’t work. Sounds like you don’t want to go with any of these lineups. To answer the question, Spurs fans, what should this first starting lineup should be? I honestly have no idea. I really don’t. The WBY and Fox are sure fire locks likely at the one and the five, but because of our depth, our personnel with overlapping position, similar heights, etc., etc. Honestly, guys, I think this season, we could see the two through four change often throughout the season as Mitch is trying to figure out things and figure out the best mix of players and who’s going to work to get work best together as starters. You could see men stagger. could see Wendy, maybe a cornet start, then one comes out and then I think they’re going to stagger things a lot. I certainly expect Castle, Harper, and Fox to each get at least 30 minutes per game as there’s a three little headed guard marks there. The Cell Johnson will get their minutes at the wing. It’s going to be fun. It’s It’s going to be fun. Probably a little frustrating at times to watch things play out throughout the season. I do think we’re getting a lot of wins along the way, but it is going to be a lot of fun to see what works, not so much what doesn’t, but there’s going to be a lot of changes throughout the season. And then there’s the X factor that we need to talk about Spurs fans. The huge X factor for this coming season. How much better will Castle and this this is just the offseason in general. This is everybody. How much better will Castle and Soan be after this off seasonason? We are seeing them put in the work on a regular basis. Just how good will Dylan Harper be as a rookie? Just how good will the Fox tow connection be when they have an off seasonason to work together and a healthy Darren Fox? He was injured all last season. Will Sohan be better not playing center Sohan and point guard Sohan? Will we actually see him reach maximum Sohandness playing in position? There’s a lot of questions going into the to the season that we’re not going to have answered right now. But this is why I say it’s such a fun time to be a Spurs fan because I really we haven’t seen the ceiling on a lot of our guys. Think about what our team went through last year. The head coach, the greatest head coach in Spurs history, maybe the greatest head coach of all time goes down what, game five, game six. Who the hell is ready for that? Nobody. Chaos. Complete chaos. Cats and dogs living together. Mass hysteria. I am so pumped for this season. I truly believe we’re going to be better than advertised. 50 wins. I’m calling it. I say it every video. Not every video mostly. 50 wins playoffs. If you believe you believe that WBY is the guy that he’s the next David Robinson and Tim Duncan type player for the Spurs, this is year number three. When you look at the guys around him, how can we not be a playoff game? If we’re a lottery team again, something has gone terribly wrong. Barring injuries, I’m excited, Spurs fans. I hope you are, too. I really think we’re going to cook this year. And there’s going to be, you know, a little frustrating moments as Mitch is trying to figure things out, but I think our players are good enough. our best players are good enough to help get us through that. I really do believe that. All right, after my rambling rant there, I’ll be live with Miss TSR and the couch contingent. 8:30 PM Eastern for the Spurs versus Jazz. I think this is going to be the last time we see Dylan Harper. Cooper flag was just shut down by the Mavericks after two games. This will be game number two for Harp. Fully expect him to play tonight, then be done. Ace Bailey did not play last night for the Jazz, so I’m hoping he plays tonight and then maybe he gets shut down, too. So, I’m excited for tonight’s game. Hope to see you in the chat. Drop a comment down below. Do you agree with me? The starting lineups might be a little fluid throughout the season as Mitch is trying to figure things out and tinker with the lineups. Maybe it’ll depend on who we’re playing. If the team against us is playing a small ball lineup, maybe we smart start switch it up and start a small ball lineup. If they’re going huge, maybe Cornet and Webby start. That’s one thing I love is we have deaths. We have a lot of depths and they can change things up as needed. Like, comment, subscribe, all that good stuff. Hope you’ve seen the chat tonight. Thank you. And as always, go Spurs go.

The San Antonio Spurs are looking good, wht should their starting line-up be? Playoffs or bust this year!?

  1. I hate the 3rd lineup…
Vassell at PG (from the bench) is insanity. He don't have the feel and touch for that role… It's just another 'Sochan PG experiment'.
And the starter, Fox, Castle, Sochan can't shoot, and I don't think Harper will be a good shooter as a rookie… The worst floor spacing possible is there!
Wemby will have to deal with 3 or more D on him, and have 10 turnovers per game as a result…

  2. I personally think the main goal is to surround Wemby with the best stretch and shooting group including a great pick&Roll option. You want your franchise player to feel to get the best support he can get!
So for me it would be:
Fox, Vassell, Castle, Barnes, Wemby and this still leaves an amzing 2nd unit with Harper, Champagnie, Johnson, Sochan, Kornet. I also see Olyniyk as the backup center to give Wemby breathing time when needed and I would also start polishing Bryants offense. Bright future!

  3. Starting 5 i think should be wemby, Fox, Castle, Barnes, and Sohan. The backups are Harper, Vassell, Keldon, Kornet, and Champagne

  4. Iโ€™m not going to discuss lineups, but rather goals. SA now has size and depth, but 3 pt shooting is still a question mark. The answer, IMHO, is a fast paced game like the Pacers where you are constantly pushing the ball down the court and not letting anyone even setup a half court defense because SA has the slashers. On defense, you are going to see SA picking up and making people work the entire 94 feet.

If SA can make this work, they are a playoff team because SA will be able to run any team in the West into the ground if they donโ€™t have the depth to keep up. Look at your lineups. Other than the 5 (Wemby), there was little drop in quality from the 1st team. To me, that means no let up on offense or defense. Viewing the West this way, OKC can keep up and maybe the Rockets, but who else can stand up to the constant pressure SA could exert???

  5. Fox-Castle-Barnes-Sochan-Wemby
    Harper-Vassell- ? -Olynyk-Kornet

Barnes or Vassell or both get moved at trade deadline, possibly ๐Ÿค” Lebron???? Just kidding

  6. The numerically best line up is if we bring back Chris Paul, Wemby at PG, Harper at SG, CP3 at SF, Fox at PF, and Castle at Center ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. 50W and playoff? Not happening… I wish it to happen… But sorry I'm not delusional. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

  8. Great Stream TSR ๐Ÿฉถ๐Ÿ–ค
    I heard that reference lol
    ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ‘ป
WE'RE READY TO BELIEVE YOU ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป

  9. Just hope Mitch doesn't screw it up… We have depth… We have bigs now… Please play sochan where he belongs and no more sochan/barnes at 5… If this happened the HC has to be removed…. (If no injury from the 3 bigs we have obv)

  10. This my starting 5
    Fox,Castle,Vassell,Sochan,Wemby
    Harper, KJ,Champagnie,Barnes,Kornet
Until Olynk is healthy he will get at least 15min running the PF and C

  11. Point guard is one of the hardest position to play well. Start fox this year, if Harper becomes good enough trade fox for picks!

  12. I can also see
Fox, Vassell, Champagnie, Barnes, Wemby for max shooting around Fox and Wemby
    Then
    Castle, Harper, KJ, Sochan, Kornet

  13. I prefer the second lineup you threw up. Sochan at 4 (though i wish he was taller) was really good in Dec. and he and Wemby looked good out there together. Fox, Castle(or Devin), Barnes to round it out. ๐Ÿ‘

  14. Lineup 2 but trade Keldon for a future 1st, move Champagnie to the backup 3 spot and then put Kelly at the backup 4 spot.

  15. @2:20 I agree with this lineup however switch out castle for Harper. I think the Spurs are gonna want to develop Harper into a point guard for his own benefit for the teams benefit in case they move on from Fox. It doesnโ€™t put pressure on him to be in the starting lineup he can run the second unit and get wet behind the ears so to speak as he adjusts to game speed physicality and 82 game seasons. Castle has been working on his combo guard skills which I think fits perfectly behind fox. Doesnโ€™t put the ball in his hands all the time but sometimes. Also the fact that castle was rookie of the year which I want to continue awarding the production and effort by giving him a starting role and not benching him after he just won the rookie of the year

  16. (1st) PG Fox, SG Castle, SF Vassell, PF Sochan, C Wemby
(2nd) PG McLaughlin, SG Harper, SF Barnes, PF Olynyk, C Kornet
    Extras: Keldon, Champagnie, & Bryant
You don't swap all 5 players at once, so there will be many lineups. However, seeing how the Spurs have historically treated rookies and empowered veteran role players in the past, I think this "depth chart" makes the most sense from the typical Spurs coach perspective.
Wouldn't even shock me to see Keldon or Champagnie come off the bench before Harper.

  17. If I had to make my own think it would be an 11 man rotation including Carter Bryant. Staggering Julianโ€™s/Keldons minutes. For the rest of it would basically be@2:20 except for Harper coming off the bench to the run the 2nd unit and castle playing SG in the starting line up.

  18. if castle doesnt start im going to be pissed ik my thought doesnt matter but castle does a lot to not be starting

  19. I see us making the play in, but not making it to the play-offs just yet…..I want to keep my expectations low, and hope for the best. I think that we will need to play 2 big men at times in order to match teams with size, and also because Victor still prefers to play in the perimeter.

  20. In my opinion Iโ€™m going Fox Castle Barnes Sochan and Wemby. Bench Harper Vassel Keldon Champ/Bryant Kornet/Kelly. But hopefully we trade Vassel so we could possibly plug in Bryant more minutes and maybe even enter the starting lineup next year

  21. Fox, Castle, Vassell, Barnes, Wemby. Starters

I like a defensive lineup of
    Fox (former steals champion)
    Castle
    Carter Bryant
    Sohan
    Wembanyama

  22. Need to do a program on the full coaching staff with our additions and how the are as signed to each if our players. We may have upgraded our coaching as much or more than we upgraded our players.

  23. ๐Ÿค” maybe a situational line-up more often than a set starter group…see Harper as the back up PG, Luke the back up big, and Devin starting…so Fox, Dev, Castle, Sochan, Wemby ….with Harper, Pennie, KJ, Barnes, Luke …with Kelly as an insert starter or bench scorer depending on match up… Carter in Austin, sign Jones-Garcia for another spot scorer….
