Cedric Coward: “I’ve been watching every minute of every game.”

Grind City Media’s Grizzly Summer League coverage presented by Pinnacle Rolls On. I’m Michael Wallace joined by Grizzlies rookie lottery pick Cedric Coward. Cedric stopped in, joined the team for today’s practice right here in Las Vegas. And you know, a lot of people have been wondering, you know, wanted to catch up with you, man. What’s been the latest? How you been feeling? And uh sort of what was your message to the team out here today? No, I’m feeling good. And honestly, the message to the team was just, you know, show up. I think the biggest thing for me being back in Memphis rehabbing, making sure my shoulders straight is, you know, I want to get my body better, but I’ve been watching every minute of every game, everything, and I just need to be around my guys again. I think that’s the biggest thing is just be present in the moment and to just show face, to watch practice, to do all that stuff. Just, you know, be able to hug, give daps up and all that stuff is like that really matters to me. So, being out here, that’s that’s I guess the biggest thing. I know one of the things you told us uh during the leadup to the draft and even after the draft was that if it were up to you, you’d be ready to play right now. But it’s also uh you know you want to take a caution right here and make sure you’re ready for training camp and the big season coming down the line. Uh what are you doing right now? What is the rehab like for you? And uh what are some of the things that you’re able to do uh on the basketball court? Yeah, I think the rehab right now is really just strength building and building that strength. So like you said when I’m ready for training camp, ready for all that stuff as soon as it hits. So I’m not, you know, easing into it. I’m just able to go right away. Um and for me, I can do everything on the basketball court. That’s why I said like if I was able to make the decision, I would play. I think for me it’s just making sure I’m also I don’t want to say being cautious but being you know smart in how I’m approaching things and you know me and the team agreed that it would be best for me to rehab the shoulder and just make sure it’s I guess got armor on it you know I guess is the best way to say it uh before and to not participate in summer league it sucks like it really does like I was really upset when I wasn’t able to but at the same time like if it’s what’s best for my health and preparing me for the big season and for the training camp and be able to be out there with my guys for the full year. That I I’ll take that all day. It’s a big big picture. It’s about a big picture mentality and you want to be able to be at your best when the team gets ready for training camp. Listen, man. Best of luck. Continue uh progress in your uh your rehab and everything. I know Grizz fans can’t wait to see you, man. So, hey, listen for Grind City Media. I’m Michael Wallace, Cedric Coward. Keep it locked on all of our Grizzlies summer league coverage presented by Pinnacle.

  1. Theres something brewing here. Mashack, Coward, Wells, GG, Cam Spencer. I really like KCP on this team, with these young guys.

  2. He could be 100 percent ready to play cleared by the doctors and the Grizzlies would still put bubble wrap around him with fluffy white pillow rooms. They are the most injury cautious (yet plagued) team in the NBA. Still excited for the future of this bright young man.
