Grizzlies Make Sneaky Good Move…

The Grizzlies have made a sneaky good move as Tumaselo has just found his right-hand man. This is absolutely huge because it brings back a familiar face for our new veteran 3 and D player Contavius Cwell Pope. Huge news to get to here at the beginning of the week. And what’s happening everybody? Jared Alto here for Grizzlies Digest bringing you the latest breaking news right now and that is that we have Tumas Iselo’s next right-hand man at assistant coach. But before we get into that, just want to let you know we’re trying to balance out those two bubbles. You all are doing a great job hitting that subscribe button, engaging, liking, commenting down below. We’re getting to know all of you very well. But this is why we’re able to get you this content. We say subscribe so we can get you this content as fast as possible. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do. As it’s breaking news today from Drew Hill, the Grizzlies are hiring Ryan Saunders as the lead assistant coach under Tumas Iselo. That’s per sources, but came from Drew Hill. Saunders comes from uh excuse me, comes with previous head coaching experience. He won a championship with the Nuggets as an assistant in 2023. So obviously very familiar with guys like Joic, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr., Kavius Cwell Pope. And that’s why this is so important because you have a veteran 3 and D guy, a championship 3D guy like KCP, and you’re able to build off of something more by being the voice in this young locker room. And then you have your old assistant coach, well I should say new old assistant coach coming back and doing some work now with the Memphis Grizzlies. So the lead assistant coach uh something to not play around with especially for Tuaselo. He’s really starting to build up uh his coaching base right now as we take a look at Ryan Saunders and his resume. So played at Minnesota. He’s a Minnesota kid and he didn’t waste any time. He got right into it for his NBA career from 09 to 14. He was an assistant with the Wizards 14 and 19, an assistant with the Timberwolves, the interimm for the Timberwolves in 2019. Then became the head coach for a couple of years for Minnesota. So basically he he was right where he was back home for a good seven seasons and then got a nice job with Michael Malone in Denver and of course Heat. Michael Malone’s not there anymore. But for the Denver Nuggets, uh they’re still a threat in the West. I think you still have Joic and Jamal Murray that twoman game that’s always going to be a threat in the West. But he Brian Saunders did a great job alongside Mike Malone finally getting that championship for Denver. Believe they waited 47 years. Fact check me on that if I’m if I um if I’m a little inaccurate there, but I believe it was 47 years finally helping Denver get to NBA heaven. And of course, Contavius Cowell Poe played a big part in that. Even though they both had short term uh short tenures with the Denver Nuggets. I mean, they certainly did a lot in their short time there. Only makes you think what else can happen now that you have KCP and Saunders here in Memphis. And a little bit about Tumaso’s staff here. Obviously took over as the head coach for Taylor Jenkins. only coached about 15 games regular season and playoffs. And then you had Cha um Taylor Jenkins who really didn’t utilize Zack Edy all that well. I’m sure that was one of the biggest criticisms. At least that’s what I that was one of my biggest criticisms with Jenkins. I think most of the players they were pretty neutral on the situation as you can’t really totally put or totally throw Taylor Jenkins under the bus. I mean, he did build a really young solid core with John Morant and Bane and Jackson and Brandon Clark. I mean, those four, they they were together a long time and helped build Memphis to uh, you know, a solid two seed in the playoffs at and at one point and he really looked to be like a guy uh for the long term, but as we got younger and we’re trying to build for the future with veterans, it seemed like uh we wanted to go another direction. And that’s exactly what Tumaselo is doing. And he’s alongside Anthony Carter along with Patrick Matumbo. Anthony Carter, former player himself, most known for the Miami Heat about five to six years ago. And then Patrick Matumbo actually won a championship as an assistant with Toronto. And then you add, he’s not on this list yet, but then you add Saunders who won a championship with Denver. You’ve got some championship experience on this coaching staff. So, this is I I think a great thing that you’ve got. You’ve got veteran elite coaches, you got championship coaches, you got a championship player in KCP, and then you’re building for the future. You’re building John Morant to be the city of Memphis, basically. Jiren Jackson Jr. who’s getting paid. It looks like his uh contract extension was confirmed as well as for Cam Spencer. I mean, this is all about building for young players now or young stars, young superstars now, but also building for the future with guys like Jaylen Wells and Zack Edy and Cam Spencer. And I think this is and also Gigi Jackson. A lot of people talking about GI Jackson as if he’s going to be the next Kobe Bryant apparently. I hope I hope something like that happens. But let’s just kind of take it slow, let him grow. Let’s be patient with it. But I think this is a great core of coaches to really help build these guys for the future. And of course, we’ve got injuries ourselves to worry about. We’ve got injuries to Jiren Jackson Jr., injuries to Zack Edi, and you know, you want to build again, another young guy, I forgot to say, Cedric Coward, obviously. So, you got a great group of guys. And I also think you’ve got the right core to do it with. And I think for Taylor Jenkins, he did a great job kind of building everybody together. I think it was just a matter of trying to mesh these young superstars with these really young upand cominging stars together. So, I think Tumas is doing a great job and who knows what else he’s got lined up if there are any other positions available, but I think he’s doing a great job so far. Uh obviously hard to judge on just 15 games, especially when you’re expected to lead the charge with only nine regular season games left. Obviously very hard for anybody to do in that circumstance, but I think Tuas has done a great job with that and we certainly wish him well and congrats to Coach Saunders. He’s now a Memphis Grizzly. But that’s going to do it for this video. Jord getting this breaking news out for you on this Monday evening. So good to be with you. Thank you so much for watching the video. You can like this video, comment on this video, share this video, leave a comment down below your thoughts on Coach Saunders and also KCP and Coach Saunders. Hey, back together again. Championship championship championship memories between those two guys. Can uh they do something with Memphis or at least build something uh with these young guys? Jared Altor saying so long. Thank you so much for watching the video and we’ll see you in the next one. Thank you.
