All right, ladies and gentlemen, the LA Clippers are 2 and 0 in summer league. We are live from summer league. Didn’t hear any complaints about the audio in the last episode. So, here we are right here just a couple hours before the Lakers and the Clippers will face off in the second night of a backto-back for the Clippers here at Summer League. Of course, Lakers getting another easier schedule than us at Summer League getting a day of rest. But, I’m here to talk about Clippers Bucks cuz I might as well make another episode for the Lakers game. Talk about as many of these summer league games as we can. So, I’m going to be talking about the performances of our guys, the performances as a team. starting with Cam Christie, then we’re going to go to Jordan Miller and Patrick Ballwin Jr. and then at the end Xavier Simpson and Yannik. So, let’s begin by talking about Cam Christie who led the Clippers. Actually, didn’t lead the Clippers in scoring. We had a really balanced effort of Patrick Baldwin with 22, Cam Christie with 21, Jordan Miller with 21 in a 10691 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. We actually lost the first quarter by one 27 to 26. Outscored the Bucks 25 to 20 in the second. Got outscored 2722 in the third and then completely dominated them in the fourth quarter. Even be uh going into it trailing by one. outscored the Bucks 33-7 in the fourth for a 10691 victory. And I thought our defense really tightened up in that fourth quarter. But overall, let’s talk about Cam Christie who continues to be really aggressive, showing more of his self-creation, but also looking for opportunities to attack closeouts when he’s gotten the ball on the perimeter. And even in transition looking to be aggressive, looking to get downhill, hit a beautiful step back with a hand in his face. I talked about, you know, in the episode before the summer league, I want to see the efficiency from Cam Christie because we know he’s got a really pretty shot, but it’s about seeing the results, right? And he went three for nine in the first game, but he also went three for six in the second game. So, and that I’m talking I’m talking about from three. So, three for nine in the first game. 33% in the second game 50%. He shot 6 for4 overall in 33 minutes against Milwaukee ended with 21 points, three rebounds, and three assists. So, two 20 plus point games to start summer league for Cam Christie. And you know, the Clippers only shot 42% in the first game. We shot 53% in this game. Bucks only shot 42 and 1.5%. From three, the Bucks shot a putrid 26%. We shot 44% 14 for 32. And then from the free throw line, they shot 83% on 23 attempts. We shot 80% on 25 attempts. So overall, 53 44 80 shooting splits for us. Really solid across the board. And again, it was really the fourth quarter where we kind of took control of the game and it started on the defensive end. You know, I thought one thing that and I guess I’ll mention him right now, Yanik Kona Neerhouser, right? Really solid first game, four blocks, 10 rebounds. In this game, he was a lot quieter and played less. He only played 23 minutes in this game. He had two points, three rebounds. Just three rebounds and yeah, just three rebounds, two points, and only one block. Now, you might say he was bad. I don’t think he was bad. I think he’s getting adjusted to the pace of the game, but I think because the Bucks didn’t really have like a true center out there, they were trying to, you know, space the floor and take Yanuk away from the basket. So when you watch the game, there were a lot of possessions where Yannik was guarding a perimeter player and that’s not his strength. You know what I’m saying? So that’s why he got less minutes. It wasn’t just, you know, Yanni’s playing terrible. It’s the lineups that you’re seeing from the Milwaukee Bucks to try to take him away from the basket. Now, when teams did go to the basket and did try to challenge him at the rim, he was still contesting. He was still a presence to the point where guys were second thinking their shots and not even shooting them. Then he eventually ended up getting a big block later in the game. So he ended with just two points, three rebounds, two steals, and a block. Didn’t turn the ball over though, and was one for one from the field. So the takeaway for me with Yannik is he’s very raw. To me, like hopefully in his best case scenario, he’s going to be a very good lop threat, rim protector, kind of like how DeAndre Jordan was for us. And he’s very athletic. I keep talking about his agility, his athleticism. It’s just, you know, being adjusted to the NBA level. That’s really what it is for me. But Cam Christie, like you know, as I’ve mentioned, he’s going to turn 20 soon. This guy’s a pro. He is definitely an NBA player. Great head on his shoulders. Really has gotten better defensively, moving his feet, bulking up a little bit as well. And now you’re starting to see a little bit more of him finishing around the basket, getting downhill. And you know, our boy G Money Grant Mona asked him about is that something you’ve worked on, you know, trying to get downhill. And he even said, “Not really. It’s just a byproduct of the way the game’s going. I’m just taking what the defense gives me. If teams are going to run me off the line, I’m going to attack closeouts.” But I love that we’re finally seeing that jump shot, the prettiness of it translate into the efficiency as well. So, I’m really excited about Cam Christie. I know he’s not going to get run this season, but he’s really improved. And to start off summer league with two 20 plus point games, that’s something that all Clipper fans should be very excited about. You know what I’m saying? The jumper looking good, the self creation, the finishing around the basket. So, you love to see that from Cam. As far as Yanik, as I mentioned, he’s very raw. I want to be a little more patient with him. You know, I saw some people giving him a little bit of a hard time on Twitter and saying, “Oh, another bad pick by the Clippers.” And you know what? Maybe they’ll be right. However, two summer league games, like really, that’s what we’re going off of. Let’s pump the brakes just a little bit. All right, that’s all I got to say. But a really solid win. Took over in the fourth quarter. Cam Christiey’s overall aggression’s been fantastic and when we close with our small ball lineup, you know, it really took over the game and allowed us to switch everything and I think our coaching staff has done a really good job. Shout out to Jeremy Castleberry who I saw at the casino last night with Eme Udoka. So, you know, it’s just awesome being here in summer league and seeing the experience. I’m enjoying every single second of it. You see players all over the place. I mean, you can’t even imagine how many players I saw at the win last night. But, and I also, you know, we got to talk to Derek Jones Jr. Uh, and, um, I finally met Terrence, man. I’ll talk about them. I’ll talk about him at that interaction at the very end of the podcast. But, Summer League is the place to be. That game was at Cox Pavilion. And, by the way, shout out to the Clipper fans that were there. You can hear them booing on calls, making noise. So that was really cool to see that it was kind of more of like a home game for us. So good stuff. Two and 0. We’ll take it. And the thing about this Clipper summer league team is, you know, we lost in the semi-final last year. These are guys, a lot of them on our team that have played in summer league before. It’s not their first rodeo. So we have a chance, in my opinion, to go pretty far. You know, when we’re dealing with teams that have played haven’t played as much summer league basketball when it comes to individual players on those teams. So I think we’ve got a really good chance to go all the way. got the Lakers on Monday. So, coming up, going to be talking about Jordan Miller and the impressive performance to start his summer league campaign from Patrick Baldwin Jr. Going to be talking about that coming up. All right, back here talking about the Clippers 10691 win over the Milwaukee Bucks in our second summer league game. Patrick Bowwin Jr., He’s someone that really stood out to me. First off, his size just really jumps off the court. You know, I would say jumps off the screen or jumps off the page, but I’ve been sitting in the second row. So, his size is really something. Like full 69, strong. When he gets around the basket, it feels like he’s going to finish just for the sheer fact that he’s that big. If he misses a shot, he can he can put it back up and in. He was getting downhill attacking closeouts and he was knocking down the three ball. three of them in the first half to be exact. So, you love to see that. He talked about his defense is something that he wants to work on, but I just thought his activity early on was really good. Getting rebounds, hitting a three, bodying up, getting downhill. So, you saw a lot of good stuff in my opinion from Patrick Baldwin Jr. And I’m telling you, the size was really what stood out for me. He had 17 points and seven rebounds in the first half. And funny enough, he also had four fouls in the first half. But remember, you get more fouls than six in summer league. So guys, that’s part of the reason why the physicality is so high. You know, it’s aggressive. It’s a more physical brand of basketball than you see in the regular season. And it’s partially because you have the more fouls and you have guys that are just dying to make the NBA. So Patrick Bowman Jr., I mean, this remember this is a guy who was playing for the Golden State Warriors and, you know, he’s really looking for a role in this league and I think he’s a pro. I don’t know what team he’s going to play for, if he’s going to stay with the Clippers, but in my opinion, he’s a pro. And he was drafted, remember, he’s a first round pick. He was drafted 28th overall by the Warriors in 2022. obviously only played one year for them, then went to the Wizards in the Jordan pool trade and, you know, spent a lot of time in the G-League and has spent a lot of time in the G- League overall. So, he’s hungry for a spot. He’s 6’9 and I mean, he was listed on Wikipedia at 220 lbs, but I would not be surprised if he’s put on more weight than that because he is a big dude. Now, in terms of his NBA career, his career high in games played was 38 in the 23-24 season. And he obviously didn’t shoot too well, just four points a game on 38, 32, 68 splits. But again, you got to give him some time to get more comfortable and find a real consistent role in this league because if if he gets it, of course, cuz 38 games, that’s that’s nothing, you know, that’s not that’s not a regular rotation guy. But I really like what I’m seeing from Patrick Bowwin Jr., you know, or what I saw, I should say, cuz it’s only been one game. A double. He was my player of the game. A double double, 22 points, 13 rebounds to go along with three steals in a block. He did turn the ball over five times, but he didn’t foul for the rest of the game. But how about the double double? 2213 and then three steals in a block. So active all over the stat sheet. and he shot 50% from the field, eight for 16 and four for 10 from three. So yes, a lot of threes, but he shot 40%. You’ll absolutely take that. And here’s the thing, how many more years does Nico Batum have left? I would keep Patrick Bowwin Jr. around because I think he could be the successor Nico Batum or games that he’s injured. Why not give him some run? Maybe I’m overreacting because of one game, but I think there’s a there’s an NBA player in there. I mean, 69 and that strong with that shooting ability just does not grow on trees. And then we’re talking about another guy who had 20 plus points. Again, it was Jordan Miller. And man, was it a relief to see him knock down some threes, 21 points, one rebound, three assists. And I also I mentioned that he wasn’t looking up enough finding his teammates. I thought he did a much better job of looking up when he was dribbling. He was driving and attracting two defenders and dropping it off, finding his open teammates and looking up in transition. So, I thought he made the right adjustments and just looked better overall on this game. 21 points, one rebound, three assists, one steal. Did turn the ball over three times. And again, like most games in summer league, very turnoverheavy, very sloppy. 22 for the Bucks, 20 for us. So, another game for us with 20 plus turnovers. That’s definitely something we want to limit, you know, against the Lakers on Monday. But man, I mean, 21 for Jordan Miller on seven for13 shooting, three for seven from three and four or four from the line. A lot of the same with Jordan, just making the three more, you know, getting downhill, taking the hit to the chest, those that one, two slow, you know, deceleration step, you know what I’m saying? That euro step that he loves. And he’s just so good at taking the contact, keeping the ball, and getting the shot up and finishing. That’s something that he’s fantastic at. So, with with Jordan Miller, I haven’t really seen anything new. But again, a lot of it comes down to can he hit that three ball consistently because if he does, he will have a future in this league. I mean, a lot of being a role player in the league now is just especially at the wing position, just making your open threes. He talked about that that’s the main thing he needs to do when I asked him, you know, what he needs to do to show the biggest part of his game that he needs to show coaches and front offices that he belongs. It’s that three ball because yes, he doesn’t have a good enough right hand yet probably, but it’s not like there’s no guys in the league that are very strong hand or dominant hand dominant strong hand dominant you could say. He’s very good going left, very good around the basket and definitely needs to work on his off hand. But again, as I said, there’s not everybody in the league is super good with their off hand. So, I think the three ball is the most important thing for Jordan. But another 20 plus point game. You’ll absolutely take that. Coming up going to talk more about Xavier Simpson, Trenton Flowers, and my interaction with Terrence man. Meeting him for the first time. Going to be talking about that coming up. I got to tell you a little something about FanDuel, America’s number one sports book. Summer sports are in full swing, including NBA Summer League. And you better believe you can bet on that. You can bet on baseball. We’re at the All-Star weekend or we just had the All-Star weekend or is All-Star weekend. I don’t know. I haven’t even Unfortunately at Summer League. I haven’t been uh paying attention. But the MLB All-Star game, no, it’s coming up tomorrow. So, yes, I’m right. The MLB All-Star game, you can place bets on that. You can place bets on summer league. You’re already following the action. Why not make it a little bit more thrilling with FanDuel? You can get in on the game while your friends are doing whatever, wherever, on the beach. Open the FanDuel app today or visit fanuel.com to get started. That’s fuel.com. All right, so to close out this one, the Clippers winning at 10691 over the Milwaukee Bucks, going to 2 and 0 in summer league. How about Xavier Simpson? The only thing I’ll say about Xavier that’s going to hold him back is his size, but he’s got a great feel for the game. Boxes out, plays defense, hustles hard, really solid handle, finds his teammates, just makes the right play. As cliche as that sounds, you know, when he’s when that’s why whenever I say someone has a good feel for the game, that means they’re make usually making all the right plays, being unselfish, doing the right things on the defensive end. I mean, look, he’s undersized. So, you know, having a guy like like to be in the league when you’re undersized, you have to do a lot of those little things. And the thing about Xavier Simpson is he’s 28 years old. You know, he played a lot of basketball overseas. He’s played for Michigan. So, that’s probably why it is as well. He’s had experience being a pro. You know what I’m saying? So, he’s got a very good handle. He had made some really big plays in this one. Uh especially late. He boxed out. He had a late blow by to put us up by 10 when the Bucks were making a little run cuz at one point it looked like we were just completely pulling away. But Milwaukee slowly took advantage of our sloppiness, which felt a lot like the game the other day against Houston, but before it got too close, Xavier Simpson had that layup, put us up by 10, and we were able to close things out. So, I’m I’m liking what I’m seeing from him. Again, he’s older, so it’s a little bit different, but you know, another game in double figures. 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, and how about five steals? Like, how about that? Five steals for Xavier Simpson. My bad. He didn’t actually have 10 points in the first game. He had nine points in the first game. But hey, close enough. So, I’m really liking what I’m seeing from him. Four out of our five starters were in double figures. Patrick Baldwin with 22, Cam Christie with 21, Jordan Miller with 21, and then Xavier Simpson with 12. Xavier Simpson shot really well from the field. Four for six from the field, and two for three from three. So, we’ll take that 66% from three, two for four from the foul line, though. So, that’s something you probably want to see him do a little bit better. But off the bench, Pulikita still couldn’t hit. He was 0 for two from the field, 0 for one from three, had a donut. We played Jamil Telford. He also had a donut, but got three assists in a steal. But the two guys I want to talk about too before we get to the Terrence man part is are Trenton Flowers and Kobe Sanders. I got a chance to, you know, be part of the postgame availability with Trenton Flowers and man does this guy have a great enthusiasm. Like just a huge smile on his face and kept mentioning defense. This is his calling card. That’s something that coach Jeremy gave him a huge shout out for is the way he’s bodying up, the way he’s moving his feet, his athleticism is crazy. He mentioned to us that he has a 42 inch vertical. So, this is a guy that has great athletic I mean, not great athletic potential, but great potential due to his athleticism. I mean, he’s when he’s in transition, it’s a movie. I mean, he’s skying over the rim, almost getting put back dunks, put back layups. 15 points in 21 minutes off the bench to go along with four rebounds, one assist, two steals, four turnovers. So again, everyone’s just turned the ball over a lot, but he shot five for six from the field, one for two from three and four for six from the foul line. The guy is quite the athlete. And again, I think he’s got a great enthusiasm and head on his shoulders. And I really hope that he ends up being a part of this team down the line because I mean, man, if you can defend and you’re that athletic and you want to be a role player in this league, it’s just that three ball nowadays if you’re a forward and 50% three in this game, we’ll absolutely take that. Of course, the volume not too much with just two attempts. But I really like Trenton Flowers and I love his postgame answers. He like didn’t even want to like he was surprised when we when they were done with questions. He was like, “Oh, that’s it.” Like almost like he wanted to talk more. So, I was he was very pleasant. And then there’s Kobe Sanders, who I’ve actually been very impressed with. You know, when I saw his highlights, it looked kind of like a, you know, plays at his own pace, slow, methodical, kind of like a Kyle Anderson in college type of deal, but he’s much quicker than Kyle Anderson. He is getting the step on his defender a lot. whether it be one-on-one attacking closeouts, he’s consistently getting two feet in the paint and he’s got a really solid handle. You know, I saw him getting pressured full court and using the arm bar to shield his defender. So, he seems pretty comfortable with the ball in his hands and he’s got great size and he’s been efficient in two games in this one. 13 points in 18 minutes on five for 10 shooting, one for three from deep. Had an amazing catch for an alleyoop layup and made both his free throws. So, double figures on 50% shooting. Another good shooting game for him. I think we might have gotten a steal there. You know, so far in these first two games, it looks pretty good. You know, he can handle the ball. And if you can handle the ball and you’re that big and you’re finishing around the basket, you got you might have a future in this league. So again, this is not a guy that I think is going to play minutes for us on the rotation this year, but hopefully a guy that we can see down the line, get some good reps for our G-League team because it looks like we got a really solid player there. And of course, you know, he’s a little bit older, too. He played five years of college basketball, so he’s got a little bit more of that, you know, season nature to his game. But, okay, I might be tripping, but I think I see Aaron Donald sitting courtside. Sorry for the distraction, but that’s a big deal if that’s the case. I’m probably wrong though on that. But anyway, Jordan, sorry, Kobe Sanders, Trenton Flowers, Patrick Bowwin Jr., Cam Christie, Jordan Miller, Xavier Simpson. I think all of them played really well. And of course, in this game, we were without Kobe Brown. But so far so good for your Clippers. 2-0 in summer league. And I’m liking what I’m seeing. I’m really liking what I’m seeing. Let’s see if we can make it 3-0 against the Lakers. Now, Terrence, man. So I’m at the win last night. I see a lot of former Clippers, a lot of NBA players, more than you could ever imagine. John Wall, Rajan Rondo, Z Bozo, Zack Randolph, Andre Miller, Willie Green, Coach Jeremy, Emma Yudoka, everyone you could think of. Derek Jones Jr. who we talked to, and he says it’s flight five now, not Flight 55. So remember, he’s changing his number. But we see Terrence, man. I’m with my boy DL2 that you always see in the Clipper in my Dimepper vlogs and Grant Mona for the Sporting Tribune and we see Terrence and we go up to him and he sees DL2 wearing all Clipper gear. So he already knew what was up. So he put his hand out ready to shake our hands and I was wondering because everybody I always you know people always say like all your all the players see the tweets. All the players see the tweets. So I was curious like does Terrence man know who I am? And so I was like yo I don’t know if you know who I am but I defended you for so many years. My name is Dime Dropper on Twitter and he said Twitter he’s like my guy handles that. So I I guess Terrence doesn’t actually do all the tweeting himself but it was an amazing interaction. It was better than I ever could have imagined. You know he told us that he’ll be back one day. That’s what he told me. He said I’ll be back one day. And I told him, you know, I defended you till the very end, man. It was like, we were all in the, you know, in the arena that night, game 6, 2021. And he was like crazy. And I told him, um, that, you know, asked him if you knew my friend Ethan from Massachusetts because that’s how I knew about Terrence Man before he got drafted. Like for people going back to the when everybody would say I stand Terrence Man to some degree, it was because I knew about him before he even played a game for us because my friend knew Martin man, his younger brother, and told me about him in Massachusetts. Remember, I went to UMass, the greatest school in Massachusetts, not Harvard, not Nor Eastern, not BEu, not BC, not MIT, Mass, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, not Ammeris College. Don’t get it twisted. And when I went there, I heard about Terrence and then he gets drafted to my team and has that kind of game. Like, of course, I’m going to back him for life. But also, objectively, he was a positive player for us until the 2024 25 season. Really was. I don’t even think he was necessarily a ne negative, but we just had guys that were doing what he does better, but man, I mean, he was he was the first NBA player that I’ve really talked to on this trip that wasn’t like on some like, “Okay, thank you. Go away kind of deal.” Cuz eventually he gets to that point where they’re like, “All right, thank you so much, but like I’m trying to, you know, just have my my own time.” But man, he was like, I told him, I was like, “You’re going to get a great reception when you come back.” And he said, “Oh, I need a standing ovation.” And it was great. We were talking about Chelsea, so like he is as awesome as I thought he would be. It was an amazing interaction. I think it was really clutch that uh DL2 was wearing Clipper gear as well cuz he knew the deal. Like he’s just one of us, you know? He’s just one of us. So, I don’t know. And it was very surreal for me because I’d envisioned that moment for so long of me meeting Terrence and just like talking to him and just like hearing cuz obviously you hear all these guys voices in there actually talking to you looking at you. It was awesome. It was awesome. Like I don’t get like you know I’ve been around all these people all the time. So like it’s not all the time but you know I see them so much. I mean I’m from LA so you see celebrities and like that but and so I don’t get starruck or anything like that. That wasn’t it wasn’t necessarily Starruck but it was very surreal know for all of my like me moneya and DL2 to be talking to Terrence man like because we’re just such die hards you know what I mean and ah he’s just Clipper legend that’s all I got to say um and Derrick Jones was awesome too so gotten I’ve gotten to meet Chris Dunn on this trip I’ve gotten to meet Derrick Jones on this trip man Dante Jones Powell Dante Jones and I already knew each other though because I coached against his son but Oh man, summer league is a special. That’s all I got to say. Summer League is a special. Oh my god. Guess who I met, guys? Sam freaking Cassell. Actually, I’ll talk about that right now for a sec. So, I met Sam Cassell, which is a dream come true. Like, he’s part of the reason I’m a Clipper fan. And I told him that. I said, “Yo, you are literally one of the reasons why I love basketball so much.” And he was like, “Really?” I’m like, I started watching basketball in ‘ 06. I’m from LA. And when when I said ’05 06, you could see him smiling and he was like, “Oh, really?” So then I I really picked his brain about coaching, you know what I mean? Like how often do coaches call plays versus the players calling plays in the NBA? And he said, “Well, maybe call plays like max 40% of the time.” So again, it’s a players league. It’s not like college. And he said, “Every single, if you want to get into the coaching game, learn about every single kind of game and its intricacies. You know, the old school, the new school, the overseas game, the college game. You know, all of it matters. Everything’s different. There’s nothing quite like the NBA game. And he he said and I asked him like I was like, “I’ve been advocating for you to be a head coach for a while. Do you want to be a head coach?” And he said, “Yes, with authority.” So, I mean, obviously it would be special to uh have um what’s it called? To have Sam Cassell eventually when Tailoo’s time runs out be our coach. That would be sick. But I’d rather just him get a head coaching job, whatever. It doesn’t matter to me. I’ll be very happy for him if he does. So yeah, Sam Cassell, baby, the goat. The goat. And I was sitting right behind Joe Mazula. So like, by the way, if you want to find out all that, go to Dime Dropper. I have I’ve all the vlogs are there. It’s so much cool stuff I’m posting there. So both my channels, Dime Dropper and Lockdown Clippers, make sure you subscribe to both. You can listen to Lockdown Clippers wherever you get your podcast. And I’ll be doing another episode for the Laker game and maybe another one for Brook Lopez, his opening words as a Clipper because there was some good takeaways there we can talk about. Also had a hilarious interaction with Brooke. So it’s just a good time. It’s my last full day at summer league though. It’s been an incredible experience. An experience of a lifetime. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Uh getting to meet some of my 2000’s heroes. Special man. Like that’s meet Rondo in the hotel. Taj Gibson, Kyle Corver. I got to see Pat. The only time I was starruck on this trip, even even though I sat behind LeBron James, which is insane, was Patrick Euing because he’s before my time. I met Mario Ellie, too, but different level. Patrick Euing has like a presence, you know? He’s a seven-footer. He’s a freaking top 75 guy. So, it’s a great time to be here. I don’t even know what else to tell you. Uh, the age old proverb continues. Go Clippers and let’s see how we doing against the Lakers.
