Dave McMenamin report on LeBron James future with the Lakers 👀
I tell you, I can barely walk 5 feet in Vegas without someone approaching me and wondering that very thing. What caused the speculation was a statement by LeBron’s agent, Clutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, given to ESPN’s Sham Shirania, when James opted into the final year of his contract with the Lakers for $53 million last month when Paul said LeBron intends to play on a championship contender for whatever time is left in his career and will be closely monitoring Lakers president of basketball operations general manager Rob Pelink’s moves to improve the team at a training camp for his record Saturday 23rd season in the fall. Now, I’ve checked in with both the Lakers and LeBron’s camp on this one. For the Lakers, it’s business as usual. They have motivation to compete at the highest level and maximize not just LeBron’s timeline, but they want to compete now with Le Luca Donuch. Some have positive that the true cause of this situation was the Lakers not offering LeBron a contract beyond next season. But Rich Paul told me that they never asked for one. Paul also made it clear to me that LeBron has not asked for a trade. And Paul hasn’t even discussed the possibility of wanting a trade in the future with the Lakers. Paul did tell me that four teams contacted him with interest in trading for LeBron. So now we wait. The Lakers have a full roster to have a decision to make on Shake Milton’s contract by July 20th. They also have three expiring contracts in Ruy Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, who’s here tonight, and Maxi Cleber, plus their 2031 first round draft pick they can use in trade scenarios. Now, I asked LeBron just before tip off if he’d like to join the broadcast to discuss everything, and he told me, quote, “I ain’t got nothing to talk about, guys.” Thank you very much, D. was a shocking end.

The media had been speculating for WEEKS, they were even becoming “ANGRY” at his silence. Many said “LeBron is so passive aggressive, LeBron is creating uncertainty”. So by not coming right out and squashing THEIR rampant speculations, LeBron was at fault.
Everyone had many “if LeBron would opt-in, opt-out or ask for an extension and WHY for each option” show segment.
So LeBron finally makes a decision AND releases a statement about the thought processes that went into that decision. The statement had nothing new or different from the reasons given by the media!
The media played their audience like a fiddle! They turned an obvious DECISION into uncertainty and they were right back in the high volume news cycle.
Rich Paul/Lebron aren’t stupid, it’s pretty obvious the Statement was intended to weaponise the media. He wants the Lakers to build a contender and so do Laker fans. Stop hating on this man.

I feel Lebron put himself in a bad predicament by opting in that $52 million player contract. If LeBron really wanted to win a championship in LA, he would’ve taken a pay cut. This current Lakers squad needs size, defense, and depth. Lakers have no cap space now to address these issues. Plus no team is going to want to trade for a 40 year old LeBron now.

Ramona and Windy threw more BS on the BS media fire. Lakers don't have to invite LeBron to every dinner they have with another player. He doesn't deserve any place at the table especially after having Rich put out that statement. He didn't opt out to sign a two year ultra team friendly extension allowing Lakers to rearm around Luka and compete for a championship. There was no option for LeBron to take a slight haircut and make a difference to the cap so he was all in or all out and he chose the later.
