5 Jase Richardson Strengths at NBA Summer League

Here are five things Jacece Richardson has excelled at in summer league. Number one, shooting touch. Some players just simply have that finesse, precision, and delicate control when releasing the ball, and Jace is among them. He has a gentle touch, which helps him make shots from difficult angles. Key for him, especially at his size, is that he has an excellent floater, which is something we see from players in the NBA that are known for having good touch. Number two, drawing fouls. His size is not deterring him from initiating and absorbing contact on his drives. He seems to be a player that has the presence of mind to go into his shooting motion as the contact is taking place. Through two games, he’s averaging 5.5 free throw attempts and has made 91% of his foul shots. Number three, three-point shooting. Jace has knocked down three of his six shots from beyond the ark through two games. If he ends up playing off the ball more than on the ball, obviously his stationary perimeter shooting is going to be critical. At Michigan State, he made 45.7% of his catch and shoot threes. Number four, ball pressure on defense. This can’t be emphasized enough. There is a premium on players who can guard ball handlers up the floor and be physical without fouling. This past season, there were 31,000 instances leaguewide of teams pressuring ball handlers in the back court, 9,000 more than the prior year, and 12,000 more than the year before that. And that’s according to Second Spectrum. Richardson is a player that can hound opponents up the floor. Others on the Magic that do this well are Jaylen Suggs and Anthony Black. And finally, number five, Heart and Hustle. Along those same lines, Jace is one of those guys that isn’t afraid to dive on the floor for loose balls or wrestle the ball away from opponents. He forced two tie-ups in the Raptors game with his hustle and determination. He just has a grit about him that fits in well with the Magic’s culture and identity. So, that’ll wrap up this video. Stay tuned for more coverage.
