Devin Carter (30 pts) outlines playing through shoulder pain bouncing back in SL Game 2

Um, good game for you. Um, how did it feel in general and, uh, you know, kind of assert yourself there on the scoring side? Um, no, it felt good. You know, definitely a bounceback game. Uh, my shoulder feels a lot better than did the first game. Uh, I mean, I tweaked it the day before the game and scrimmage that we had. So, uh, yeah, I was kind of playing hesitant the first day, but, you know, I just had a lot of treatment, a lot of, uh, Advil. So, I mean, you know, shook back. So, glad we got the win though. That was really the most important thing. you know, we’re two and0 and I feel like that’s the most important thing going into the next game. Yeah, I was I was going to ask um like kind of both games it was kind of bothering you a little bit the shoulder. Is it maintenance? It wasn’t today really until I fell. It was a little bit but uh No, definitely the first game it was day before. So, it’s just a small sweep, but you know, uh that’s part of having sober surgery. Yeah. So, so nothing nothing out of the ordinary? No, no. Ever since I had the surgery, you know, it’ll have it episodes where it’ll hurt a few days and unfortunately for the first game it happened the day before. So, it’s fresh. So, is it always the same type of pain like same location? Yeah. Yeah. So, like that’s why I don’t even worry about it. You know, I just have to deal with the pain as it comes. And uh like I said, just take a lot of treatment, a lot of I was good. What’s was there a different approach to you to this one? I mean, obviously shoulder being what it was, but looked like you were really trying to get into it offensively. Um I mean, all the coaching staff, they just told me to be aggressive. But the first game, uh, like I said, I wasn’t really being aggressive, taking good shots. I was taking, you know, hit shots and stuff. So, just let the game slow down. Felt confident with my shoulder going into the day. So, gave me the confidence just to do what I do. So, how much is it still kind of work in progress knowing they’re relying on you solely as a point guard and then also trying to pick your spots out there on? Yeah. Um, it’s definitely a work in progress. Um, I feel like today I did a lot better, you know, uh, how many turnovers I had, but I feel like I did a lot better, you know, uh, initiating offensive. So, um, yeah, it’s just reps really is all you need to learn and glad I’m here. How do you think Bill running that pick and roll game specifically working? Max is nice. Max is nice. Maxine, he’s nice. Uh, I love playing with good bigs, skill bigs. So, Max is nice. What about you guys together? How you feel about um crazy thing me and Nick knew each other since uh Colorado because we both played AU against each other growing up like basically our whole AU life. So um no it’s just great to see him doing what he does. I’m glad he had a great game today showing why he was the right pick for us and just happy he’s my teammate. So is his game different then it is now in any in any way in terms of what he was doing when you know Um, no. I mean, just I mean, just grew up. I mean, everybody grows up. So, I mean, yeah, that’s all it is to it, just growing up. Body changes, so obviously, you know, more bouncy, able to get to the rim a little easier, shoot. So, how was this experience compared to last year? Weren’t obviously able to do much, but be around the guys? Yeah. Um, no, it’s a great experience. Like I said, just getting reps, uh, preparing me for the regular season. So, um, yeah, not having a great time out here. Just my family, my pops is here, friends. So, just having a great time, you know. What have you made of the brand of basketball? Just, you know, trying to get the brand of basketball that that summer league is kind of a sort of chaotic basketball going on there, but still trying to um, you know, it’s a lot of people who are fighting for spots. Um, you know, it’s not just for the team you’re playing on. Uh my pops, funny enough, he I think he played with the Mavericks against somebody, but he got picked up by the Heat. So, you never know who’s watching. So, it’s everybody’s out there competitive, playing hard, and you know, that’s the best basketball you can ask for. So, going back to you and do you see similarities with some of your guys names? Like, he’s he’s getting a bunch of boards, too. And I’m curious, I guess, if it has anything to do with being from similar. I’ll let y’all decide that. That’s my dog, though. But I’ll let y’all decide comparisons, all that. I don’t care compare myself to anybody, but Nick is very good. Not a lot of lead guards in the in the NBA can exert as much defensively and be that locked in on that end and then also produce, you know, offensively. What’s your Do you think it’s a lot of mental thing or is just your your conditioning? What do you think allows you to be so good? Um, it’s definitely a want and a will. You know, I take pride in locking down who I’m guarding personally and I know my capability on offense. So, I mean, at the end of the day, it’s just what you work on. I don’t just work on offense. I work on defensive slides. I work on reaction things. Like, I do a lot of stuff to keep up with, you know, my defensive stuff as well. So, it’s not just a offensive workout tomorrow. And a message fans tuned in. Providence fans watch. Oh, yeah. Go Fries. Last one. Yeah. Um, a lot of time I feel like he’s speaking in French, but n he’s definitely vulgar. Uh, no. He He’s vocal. He calls out the screens early. Uh, he lets us know to go under. He’s uh he’s a great teammate. He motivates us and uh I love playing with him. So glad he’s with us as well.

Sacramento Kings second-year guard Devin Carter spoke with reporters Saturday night following their Las Vegas Summer League win over the Chicago Bulls.

He outlined continuing to deal with shoulder pain, being more aggressive in game two, his impressions of the rookies (Nique Clifford, Maxime Rayaud), and more.
