MASSIVE Injury Update – This Has Mavericks Fans CONCERNED…| Dallas Mavericks News
We have a massive injury update that’s leaving a lot of Mavericks fans pretty concerned. And rightfully so. When you look at the season that we all just had to endure that was filled with injuries, filled with illnesses and almost having to forfeit games because of said injuries and illnesses. Mavericks fans just want a piece of mind. They want to hear good news. They want to know that the guys are getting healthy. They’re preparing for next season. Cooper Flag is integrating well in the team. No more bad news. But unfortunately, we’re just not that lucky as we did get the reports earlier today from both Shams and Mark Stein that show that Derrick Lively over the summer had foot surgery to get rid of some heel spurs or foot spurs that it’s very complicated. But in this video, we’re going to break down all the reports surrounding Derrick Lively, his surgery, why he needed surgery, as well as I did get some information from a medical professional that really breaks down what is going on with Derrick Lively. But how’s it going everybody? My name is Marcel Martin. This is Mavericks Digest, bringing you the latest news on everything Mavericks related. And before we get started with today’s video, we’re currently sitting at 21,643 subscribers. We are getting oh so close to 22K. But if you want to be up to date on everything Mavericks related all summer long with the last game of summer league, we’ve got preeason. We have more updates on injuries and contracts. If you don’t want to miss out on a single thing that your favorite team’s doing, make sure you subscribe. But the Dallas Mavericks just can’t catch a break. It seems like we know that Kyrie Irving is dealing with a torn ACL. He’s improving. He’s rehabbing. He should be fine in the second half of next season, which we’re all aware of. But just about a week ago, we did find out that Anthony Davis had to have surgery to reattach a retina. We went over that in a previous video where he’s going to be fine. He’ll be back by training camp. And if anything, this will just help him next season to maybe hit more of his threes, more of his free throws. But earlier today, we did get the unfortunate news about our own center Derek Lively. And the report goes uh Dallas Mavericks center Derek Lively has undergone surgery to clean up bone spurs in his right foot. Sources tell ESPN he is expected to be healthy for training camp. So, there is good news. It’s not all doom and gloom bad news. We do know that he will be back in time for training camp, which is perfect. By the time the season comes, as long as everything goes smoothly, we’ll have nothing to worry about. This report will probably be an afterthought to many Mavericks fans, but it does show an underlining issue with Derrick Lively. This last season, due to injuries and illnesses, Dererick Lively only played 36 games, which is less than his rookie year, where he barely played 50 games, about 56, 53 games. Derrick Lively is slowly becoming injuryprone, which does kind of make it a good thing that we got Daniel Gaffford, that we’re not trading him away for Herb Jones or, god forbid, LeBron James. But it does show that Daniel Gaff for being on this team does have value. But it does, at least for me and many other Mavericks fans. It does raise a little bit of concern for Derrick Lively. Dererick Lively is an amazing center. He had an he had an awesome rookie year helping us in the entire playoff run and leading up to the finals. He’s been a sponge. He’s improved so much in his game. A lot of people would argue he should be our starter over Daniel Gaffford. I would choose Daniel Gaffford over Derrick Lavy. Derby is a great center, very good on the defensive end. His free throws have improved. His perimeter defense is well well better far along better than Daniel Gaffford. So obviously there’s no reason to trade him. There’s no reason that he shouldn’t be on this team. But the health is concerning which is attributed by the Dallas Mavericks. We talked about it many times on this channel how the previous medical staff has been fired. We found out that the people that Nico Harrison chose to put in charge weren’t even qualified. me, Marcel Martin of Mavericks Digest had the same amount of qualifications to be an NBA head trainer as the guy we had just let go, which is a little bit, I mean, irresponsible. I mean, Derek Lively at the time was your young player. He was your prospect, your young talent that you wanted to grow, develop into something great. So why wouldn’t you put the best talent around him to make sure that he’s healthy, that he stays able to play, stay on the floor for two seasons, not even able to play 60 games in either of his seasons is a little bit alarming. Are we going to see Derrick Lavyy develop some actual injuries that are going to pro, you know, just last the entirety of his career where they just keep coming up or are we going to put the right people around Derrick Livey to make sure that he stays healthy, he’s able to stay on the floor, he’s able to develop and actually play games. I like Derek Lavy. a lot of people do and seeing these injuries just keep happening is a little bit concerning. However, like I said, it’s not all bad news. We take a look right here. Mark Stein does put things into perspective. He said that Lively, I’m told, is now out of the boot after having bone spurs removed, which is a which is great great news. He’s not in the boot. But he also said that the Mavericks were hopeful that Lively would not require offseason surgery after being limited to 36 games by the injury last season. But the expectation is that the 21-year-old will be available for the start of Dallas training camp in late September. So again, good news. He will be here for training camp and we’ll have another video around that time to make sure that’s still the same. However, the Mavericks knew about this. They knew that he would possibly need surgery, most likely need surgery. Mark sign said right here, “The Mavericks were hopeful that Livey would not require offseason surgery, but he did. And I don’t know why the Mavericks are hesitant to do surgery. It’s offseason. Let Derrick Lively go get surgery. Let him go fix his foot.” The Dallas Mavericks have shown us last season that when it comes to the medical staff, the medical side of of everything, injuries, and how we rehab players, how we allow them to come back when they’re ready, the Mavericks are doing a very poor job last season. And it’s starting to look like that really hasn’t changed. And although we do have someone new in-house, which we’ll get to later in this video, the Dallas Mavericks have to do right by the young players. I think Nico Harrison should not be heavily involved on the medical side. If someone’s telling you that Cooper Flag needs to sit for a month, you let him sit for a month. There’s no reason to rush anybody back from injury that would just add to those injuries. We saw Derek Lavy go down the injury, a really nasty one on his ankle earlier in the season. He almost came back a few days later until one of the trainers said, “Hey, go get a scan which showed that he did have a foot fracture or a hairline fracture in his foot which sidelined him for the remainder of the season up until the last several games where he was still on a men’s restriction. So yes, surgery’s important, recovery is important. Make sure these guys are taken care of are way more important than anything else. Availability is the best ability, and if you can’t stay healthy, then you’re no good for us, no matter how good of a player that you are. If we take a look at this right here, Mark Stein also said that Derrick Lively the second, I’m told, remained on a minute restrictions for both of Mavericks playing games this week. This is a old tweet. Just want to bring it up. He said that among the topics covered Nico Harrison’s round table with selected Dallas media members was an ESPN McMahon question about the handling of Livy’s injury. So, just to bring this old report back up that yeah, Derek Lively came back after being sidelined with that ankle fracture or that foot fracture. But then also while coming back he was on minutes restriction. I understand we didn’t want to have to forfeit games. We were dealing with a lot of injuries. If you could just play for 10 minutes, you were going to suit up for the Dallas Mavericks. We were not trying to forfeit games because that would obviously look like we were trying to tank. We’re trying to throw games to try to get Cooper flag. But that does just paint a bigger picture. Are we taking care of our players? I mean, we got Kyrie Irving who’s rehabbing his ACL. We have Anthony Davis who’s dealing with a detached retina as he just got surgery. Derek Lively just now getting surgery. Now, these are good things. It’s not a bad thing. They’re getting surgery. They’re getting taken care of, but these should be priorities, not something that you put off into the off seasonason. I understand you don’t want to throw games. You don’t want to forfeit games, but but health should be the number one thing. What if something worse happened to Dererick Lively or Anthony Davis or Kyrie to where they have to miss the entirety of next season? That just doesn’t sound responsible. But like I said, I did have a medical medical professional break it down for me. I’m g show you exactly what I was told. That really puts things into perspective. Take a look right here. I was told this. He said, “So, let me pre preface this by saying Shams is infamous amongst medical professionals because his reports are super unclear medically. There are 26 bones in the foot, all of which technically could have been bone spurs, but there is a variation in any potential recovery timeline depending on the localization of the spurs. My best guess would be this is a case of calccanal heel bone spurs as a calcinius I’m sorry I’m not a medical professional um is among the most common places to have bone spurs recovery would be 6 weeks to 3 months with the six weeks being the more likely scenario if the surgery only involved bone bone spur resection he also followed up by saying so I had also asked how serious is this is something we should be worried about how did this happen is this relative to the injury that we saw earlier in the season and I was told so this is Where NBA reporting stinks, his fracture was said to be in his right ankle, no bone specified, and the spurs in his right foot without specifying the bone. They could be related in that stress fracture and bone spurs both are caused by repetitive force/impact on a specific area of the body. More or less, they are wear and tear injuries. But bone spurs rarely occur acutely and normally are caused by the affformentioned chronic force process. Therefore, the RT or the right ankle CT Live lively had which allowed diagnosing the stress fracture would have almost certainly included the bone spurs, especially if they are in the heel, less so if the spurs are in bones close to his toes. So, this is unfortunately would be another black mark against the medical staff. All that to be said, this is something that happened because of something else. Derek gladly had that ankle fracture and then it caused bone spurs. But this isn’t something to worry about. He’s not going to have to walk funny, but it’s good that we got them removed. And like I said earlier in the video, we do have someone much better in house that should fix a lot of our medical issues. A lot of people have been asking if we fixed our medical staff, and I did find the answer. This is actually an old report that may have flown under the radar, but we did find out that just in the Dallas Mavericks are hiring Bulls head strength and conditioning coach uh Jeff Pulse to their training staff. League sources tell me. A highly respected figure around the league. Pulp Springs years of experience and reputation for elite player development and care. And you can take this with a grain of salt because I know the Chicago Bulls had health issues on their own roster, especially with Lonzo Ball. However, if he’s been around the league for a while, he has experience. That’s more than what the last guy had. It’s more than what I have cuz I added as much experience as the last guy. So, all in all, we’ve got improvements everywhere. We’ve talked about the players that we’ve added in D’Angelo Russell and Cooper Flag as well. Ryan Mhard and Miles Kelly and Dwight Pal. Of course, he opted into his player contract or his player option. So, we got good players. We also have a better staff. I’ve I’ve recovered it. I’m sorry. I covered it heavily on this channel of all the coaching changes that we’ve made, we have a much more experienced coaching roster as well as the training staff. So, even though Derek Livey had to get surgery, even though AD had surgery, Kyrie Irving’s rehabbing his ACL, things aren’t that bad. We’re taking care of the problems now so they’re not problems in the future. But let me know what you think in the comment section down below. Do you think that this is just a small sign of what’s to come with Derrick Lively, that he is going to be injuryprone for the future? Or do you just think, like me, that he’s fine? He’s getting surgery, fix all the problems now, so by the time the season starts, he’ll be ready to go. We have about 98 days left until the regular season, so these guys have plenty of time to rest. But I’m glad you made it this far to the video. Make sure to check out our Twitter and Discord links in the description below. And as always, y’all take care. Drink water. Peace.
Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively II underwent offseason surgery to remove bone spurs from his right foot, with ESPN reporting the procedure was a success. He’s expected to be fully recovered in time for training camp in late September, though he’ll miss the remainder of Summer League and team workouts. Tune in as Marcel Martin examines how this impacts Dallas’s frontcourt depth, the adjustments to their rotation heading into camp, and what it means for Lively’s development.

Imagine idiot people clowning Dlive, and AD for getting surgeries when they had those injuries the whole season and thats why they been struggling whole season it's better for them to get the surgeries done now than later when they injure themselves harder people just don't know what injuries are they be thinking that injuries are so funny. 💀

*When someone makes your team better….. you keep that player.
Mavs Roster 2.0🏀🏀
Sign Kai Jones to back up. A.D. and return of the Mack.. Mickity Mickity Mack Quentin (no Richardson) Grimmy Grimms
It is better to have a deep rotation rather than exhaust a line up of 6-7 player rotation.
Also when injuries or load management occurs you want to still have other players able to perform at a high level like Kai Jones and Quentin (no Tarintino) Grimms.

That is why they should Kai Jones on the Roster and ship off Dwight Powell
I mean this is nothing out of the ordinary, he had a 3 month injury last season, makes sense to get the surgery to be safe
If he gets banged up again this season it’s time to trade him next summer. Can’t have an injury prone young player
ive seen enough trade lively for lebron
I remember that report Tim McMahon wrote where they mentioned the medical staff messed up and made Lively do a full contact practice before checking his scan and it turned out they made him play on a mild stress fracture which they almost certainly made worse. It was insane that they even made him play a little bit late in the season. This was malpractice by the Mavs, they'll regret it later if they sell low though, and fixing bone spurs at least isn't as serious as it could have been
He'll be ready by training camp. He's already out of the boot/cast. I'm guessing that's why he wasn't at the summer league games.
Trade him for LeBron 😂
Reason why I believe it would be better for him to come off the bench. Gafford been on the bench to carry some type of offensive actions for the unit but that isn't needed now. Lively would be best at 15-20 minutes a night to start the season and then ramp him up but also save him for playoffs.
I love Derek lively but he's to injury prone Dallas shouldn't announced his injuries so they can have a better trade value for him
That's why landlord is so important
Lively and Davis = 1 player. They both will miss half the games. We can’t trade anyone in the front court.
Why didn’t this happen straight after season?
Didn't kyrie just have his surgery just a week or 2 ago? Not sure why we are over reacting to off season surgeries. I mean it is the off season
I’m not concerned at all we should win a lot of games if shit goes right
Yall were all ready to trade gaff just 2 months ago. I told yall if we traded gaff that we would he FUCCED because of his fragile tre other 2 were and 2 months later both ad and lively are having surgeries, regardless of reasoning. It’s a bad look. A healthy mavs scrubbing they the west, but injured, it’s ugly
Hopefully this is the last surgery to get him right . I’m praying for the best
On the real he ain’t never stayed healthy but we ain’t need him to either we can’t use the term injury prone when we traded for AD 😂😂😂😂 let’s be patient maybe he’ll be healthy for three years straight who knows what we do know he got game we need him !
You all seriously don’t believe the story about a trainer that’s basically a layman, right. Surely you can’t be that bought into the Nico hate to broke a human making his kind of money would be that blatantly idiotic. It literally serves no purpose at all even if you assume Nico has the worst intentions.
We shouldn't be concerned at all he will be back in the beginning of the season
Im sorry guys d live looking like he gone be a injury prone player we could’ve traded him last year for spicy p i think we need to come up off him mavs nation the best ability is availability and we already got too many injury prone players 🤷🏾♂️💔
People are so stupid this means he's value can go down meaning we don't have to much when he becomes a free agent this isn't a big deal he'll be ready to roll when the time comes just sucks cause he'll probly not practice much but I'm confident this is not a big deal they just taking care of it now before it gets crazy later
All you haters are just BLIND and DONT SEE THE VISION. Nico Harrison and his medical staff ARE NOT STUPID. Their VISION is health NOW and health FOR THE FUTURE.
That's why they waited til AD went a little blind before reattaching that retina. He didn't want to SEE the HATE comments NOW or in the FUTURE. They did the same thing for his exploded testicle. AD said he didn't want kids NOW or in the FUTURE anyway.
SEE THE VISION. VISIONARY MAMBA
