‘Not disappointed’ with Cooper Flagg, Bronny is ‘not a good basketball player’ | BREAKFAST BALL

Woohoo! Super Bowl champion Willie Cologne joins the program. Danny’s off right now. We’ve got Craig Cart. I am Mark Schlert and thank you so much for making us a part of your day. How we doing, boys? Good. You know, sometimes when you come to work, the world is just right. Planets are aligned. Weather is good. Friends are good. Family is good. I got two deep dish pizzas in the oven. I got bagels coming. I got We’re good. We’re good. And last night was one of those nights because I watched the basketball game last night and it ended in the perfect way. Oh, I mean the perfect start with the beginning of said game. Okay. The much anticipated summer league debut of you know who. Cooper flag went down last night. The number one overall pick had a rough one. Uh five of 21 shooting from the field. Scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds. disappointed in his summer league. Not even a little bit. To the contrary, here’s a kid that was confident enough. Give me the rock, I’m shooting it. You take 21 shots. I don’t care if it’s G-League, Summer League, or the NBA. You’re brimming with confidence. I got game. I’m going to put it on display. He didn’t shoot well. All right, that happens. First game ever against NBA pros with your people watching. He obviously had the the flush right there. You know, he did make five baskets in total. He shot like crap. five for 21, but did everything else really well, right? Um, he rebound great, assist, great, and he was not afraid of the moment. I’ll take a kid like that all day, every day. It kind of reminded me a little bit, and it’s a terrible comparison. I know you’re going to mock me online for this, but Kobe Bryant came into the league shooting the ball. Sure. I I’m confident enough. I’m going to make my shots. I am shooting the basketball. So, anybody that watched that game last night that is disappointed, you either don’t know basketball, you’re a racist or you just hate Cooper Flat. I mean, that’s all it is. Because that was as good. Look, do you score 40? No, he didn’t. But I am not disappointed at all. Yeah, I just wrote a note. Uh, racist. Kobe and Flag the same. No, I did not say that. You said you said you said Cooper Flag is the next Kobe Bryant. That’s what I heard. I’m 100%. I’ll tell you this here. Here here’s the one thing I loved about what the Lakers did last night out of the gate. Very first possession of the game. They had two guys, not one. They blitzed him 94 ft. Oh, you’re the next coming. You’re the great white hope. You’re the next superstar from jump street. We’re on your ass. Yeah. Absolutely. I mean, they absolutely blitzed him. He had the ball. Here’s what I love though. Even after that, he still found his spot. And I’m 100% with you. I was not disappointed. He didn’t shoot well. That was a bad shot, but he found his spot. You could see that physically he wasn’t intimidated at all, right? He got to where he needed to get. He did everything exceptionally well. Kobe flag is the next Kobe. Could become Michael Jordan. Could become Michael Jordan. I mean, I just I He said it. He said it. Not me. But I’m just saying. No, I’m I’m 100% with you, man. I was completely intrigued, impressed. The moment wasn’t too big, like you said, he had the confidence to shoot. And the body, like you could see him, he’s not afraid to body people up to get where he needs to get. Uh I I just thought it was impressive even though he didn’t shoot. I think you hit it right on the head. Body language means a lot, especially in that moment. Going against Bronny James, your first start, I said it yesterday, you just don’t want to make it seem like he’s a fish out of water. We didn’t want to see that. But I thought for the most part, man, and this goes back to the old Michael Jordan rule, if you can’t score the ball, how are you going to impact the game in other areas, he had steals, he had blocks, valid, he went cold in the second half. But one thing I did like from him, he he remained aggressive through the game. And for a young fella, only 18 years old, by the way, with all the world on his shoulders, cuz we talked about AD coming off surgery, Kyrie being out, Klay Thompson, a little bit of a shell of himself, he’s going to have to walk on the court in in Dallas, and he’s people are going to expect him to be that guy right away. And so I thought he handled the moment. I think for him right now he has to brea because even towards the end of that interview you tell he’s still anxious like man I should have dropped 30. Yeah you but you can see the basketball acumen. You can see his knowledge of the game. There was a turnover fast break opportunity. He got the ball through a dime piece down underneath the basket. Now they missed it but you could see that he could see the court that he has a great obviously he’s got a great feel for the game. He’s the number one overall pick, but the guy was phenomenal. Look, five for 21 and at least it’s out of the way and I’m sure that’ll be the toughest game he plays for a while because, you know, it’s my first game. I know all eyes are on me. I know the place is sold out. They want to see what I can do. And while he did not shoot well and I’m not sure if that’s just, hey, sometimes your shot doesn’t fall. Maybe there were some nerves that he’s not going to talk about. Uh he’s obviously not playing with a team that is gonna be playing regular season games with them because a lot of these guys are tweeners. Uh some G-League players, some G-League talent, but I just thought get game one out of the way. He didn’t embarrass himself. The game wasn’t too much for him. The moment wasn’t too much for him. It’s probably the worst shooting night he’s going to have in the NBA this summer. He’s not going to play 20 summer league games, obviously. And I just thought I don’t want to overstate it, although I guess I already did. Um I thought he did fine. I I did. I think I I think he did, too. I think the other thing is there’s an adjustment. like you can work in the gym all day long against other guys, you know, and and that that three-point line is back from the college three-point line and you could feel really comfortable doing it going into it, but when there’s the game’s online and the and it starts to move and doing all those things, I can see you starting off slow, a slow night shooting, but I thought he did everything else exceptionally. Yeah, I think my only knock on him was I expect him to play a little bully ball against Bronny, right? He’s 6’9. Bronnie’s only 6’2. I thought he was gonna put him in a baby seat and beat him up. That didn’t happen. But he’s going to have to fill out and get his grown man shoulders as we like to talk. But if you’re Cooper Flag Man, now it’s about stacking it, right? Now you go play basketball. Now you go play basketball. Yeah. And I’m sick and tired of this. Uh this is our Cooper Flag against Bronny James. No, it ain’t. Uh I don’t know why he was built that way. You have a secondyear G-League player going up against a guy that’s a lock to be in the NBA and not a G-League player and the new face of the Dallas Mavericks. You guys have this weird fascination with Bonnie. So, let me tell you why I thought the game ended in the perfect manner. Nobody cares who wins these games outside of the players playing them. But for me, when I told you I woke up this morning and the planets were just aligned, right, and the the world just seemed like it was back on its own. Yeah, nice alley hoop. Uh appropriate axis. Two-point game. 8785, I think, was the score. I could be wrong on that. And Bronnie James is like, “Yo, I’m Bronny James. Everybody clear out. I’m going to win this game.” Brick. That’s the perfect ending to uh the Cooper Flag debut. Ronnie James trying to make it about himself and he brick houses the gamewinning shot. Ronnie James is is to you as Russell Wilson is to me. I think it’s fair. Is that fair? Is that fair? Except you hate a guy that’s won a Super Bowl. I don’t think a guy that is not being played. I’m just annoyed by Yeah. Well, you’re annoyed by because you know you’re a Brcker fan. Well, I was disappointed because you talk about the being, you know, states being too big for uh possibly being too big for Cooper Flag. I thought Bronnie was going to have a better night. I He’s not a good basketball shot. Did you see he knocked out the first two shots? I thought, “Oh, Craig, I can’t wait in the G disappear. He is.” Let me say it again. 21 points in the G-League. The G-League is not done to sneeze at. No, it is. It’s not the NBA. All right. It’s like It’s like in baseball, you have these guys, they call them quadruple A baseball players, right? Like guys that they’re better than AAA, but they’re not quite good enough to be everyday baseball players. They call that quadruple A. He’s a quadruple A baseball player. I So, my son got sent down to the minors when he was with Detroit, right? Yeah. And minor league baseball. He went down to Triple A and just absolutely dealt. Like he threw 12 innings, had like 23 strikeouts, you know, had a like zero erra, you know, had three walks cuz he got sent down cuz he’s walking too many guys. Sure. So he comes back up and a reporter asks him like, “What did you do to fix your game?” He said, “Absolutely nothing. It’s AAA. The hitters aren’t as good and the strike zone’s bigger.” Like he goes, “It’s it’s just easier to play down there.” Yeah. And that’s a fact. And that’s that’s what Bronnie is. And look, great for him. He’s a G-League basketball player and he’ll have a couple nights where he drops 20 points, but we have to stop like I I know it’s because his dad I get all that great. Okay. So, he’s the offspring of a great basketball player. So, that’s why we talk about him. We collectively the sports media. Oh, hold on. That’s breakfast. Let me just tell him. Hey, I’ll be right there. Thank you very much. Hang on. Thank you. Um, can you somebody go get the bagels, please? Bagels and locks. Uh, Scott or an intern or somebody? Um, that’s No, no, I don’t. Keep the ringer on. I told, baby. Um, yeah. It’s like I kind of feel bad for Bronny because he’s the only G-League player we’ve ever spent this much time talking about. Yeah. And he’s not an NBA basketball player. [Music] Hey, [Music] hey, hey. [Music]

  3. Mr.Bronny he’s a wonderful player Play, but as good as the rest of them, don’t try to put my blood down haters I love him❤

  4. Ok, so they praise Cooper for shooting it like Kobe and missing. But, Bronny shoots the game winner and misses and now he sucks. Had Cooper shot and missed theyd say he has the mamba mentality. Thia segment actually made me lose a ton of respecr for Mark. Smh

  5. Craig Carton was convicted of securities fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy in November 2018. He was sentenced to 42 months in prison and three years of supervised release following his prison term. The conviction stemmed from a ticket reselling scheme where he allegedly defrauded investors.

  6. Bringing race into this already let you know what it's about with him and why his point of view is what it is. Its basketball skin color doesn't matter either you can play or you can't.

  7. Bronny would embarrassed all of those old guys they don't e🎉ven know about basketball! 😱 Haha. Facts are that they could not even come close to Bronny when they were bis age ! Most people are mad and say negative things because they have no athletic ability nor were they talented enough to make the fifth grade after school team a lot of sports analysts and media personnel say things because they are just a fan they never had the talent or ability to play so they had to watch from the sidelines! 🤔Its sad !😮 Bronnydoesn't give a f*** what they're saying!

  8. Kinda sounds like the guy has something against Bronny lol like did Bronny smash his daughter or something…. I'm guessing cooper flagg is the guy he'd allow to date his daughter😂😂😂

  9. Bronny is a joke😂 he doesn't look like an NBA player he looks more like a MAKE A SWISH KID😂😂. LEFRAUD JR😂

  10. LEBRON DID HIS SON A DISSERVICE BY NOT CONVINCING HIM TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL, A DEAD NEED THE MONEY SO THERE WAS NO REASON TO LEAVE HE NEEDED TO WORK ON HIS SKILLS

  11. Lets be honest Bronney is a regular player Periodt!!Cooper is on another level,do not see Bronny in the league for very long!!!

  12. YES!!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR COMMENTING AND SHINING A LIGHT ON THIS BOZO, WE GOT HIM AND HIS SHOW KICKED OFF FS1 AND CANCELED!!! NO PLACE FOR RACIST DRUNKS ANYWHERE!!!

  13. Racist? Don’t like Cooper Flag?? This guy needs more practice runs before he takes to the main taping. How do you make claims of anyone being racist because some may have been critical of Flagg’s first performance?? Better question is why do people put high expectations on young athletes to perform like seasoned pros number 1 pick or not??? Cooper Flagg is a great player and will have a good career. Me personally I don’t think his first time out of the gate was bad. He will get better but this racist remark just threw me off. Just weird. Podcasts where former players are the host have more value to me than listening to a bunch of so called sports analysts who couldn’t even hold the jock of the worst players in any league.

  14. I ain’t never watching this bs again 😂😂😭 not disappointed in flag but bronny not a basketball player is krazy s/o flag tho he gone be straight

  15. dumb people hating on a kid in his first 2 hours of pro nba player. odds are most the haters are racist Facts

  16. 😂 Clowns!! They talking like he wasn't the number 1 pick. 5/21 is absolutely horrible! IDGAF what you say. They just DR. All of them.
