So, could the Los Angeles Lakers be trading away LeBron James to the Dallas Mavericks this 2025 NBA offseason? Well, here on the screen is a snippet of an article from bleacher report.com. The Dallas Mavericks reportedly only want James as a bought out for agent as per ESPN’s Dave McMenan, but they could cobble together a compelling argument with losing any of Anthony Davis, Cooper Flag, or Kyrie Irving. All three likely among the leader leading reasons James might have interest in joining Dallas. Also high up that list would be head coach Jason Kidd whom whom LeBron James played with on team USA and later for when he was an assistant on LA’s 2019 2020 title team. So, yeah, there’s been a lot of speculation the last couple days about LeBron James’ future in Los Angeles. Like, could he be bought out? I don’t think so. Uh, could he be traded? I would say that’s more likely, but could he stand pat and sign somewhere else in free agency? That’s probably the likeliest scenario in my opinion. Now, I find it a little bit hard to believe that the Lakers and the Mavericks would come together and make a trade of this magnitude. But if LeBron James puts the Lakers in a bit of a tough spot, saying like he only wants to go to Dallas, for example, he wants to play with his buddies Kyrie and Anthony Davis, then I guess this could make some sense for Nico Harrison to kind of pick up the phone and make a trade happen that way. But um as alluded to in this article by Dave McManaman, uh one of the best in the business. Signing Anthony D or sorry, signing LeBron James as a bought out free agent is probably the preferred way. Like in this case, you get him at a reduced price. You don’t give up assets for him and he helps the team win. So, this could actually be sort of a win-win uh move for um for both teams involved because if you’re the Lakers, uh you get some cap relief or if you make a trade, you get some assets back. And if you’re the Mavericks, you go for a championship run uh with how stacked this uh lineup is right now in Dallas. So, I’m not 100% sure how this would go. Man, this LeBron-to-Mavs rumor is wild but not as solid as people think. He already opted into his $52M Lakers deal for next season, so it’s not like he's a free agent. The Mavs, Warriors, Cavs, and Clippers did reach out to Rich Paul, but unless there’s a buyout, a trade’s gonna be complicated and expensive, especially with Bronny on the Lakers roster.
Dallas has a very good team, which makes the idea tempting. But matching LeBron’s salary would gut their depth. Plus, no actual deal's in place, despite viral posts saying it's done. ESPN says Dallas would only go for it in a buyout scenario, not a full trade.
Still, Vegas odds are favoring the Mavs right now +125, so yeah, people are watching. If LeBron really wants to win now and leave LA behind, Dallas could be in play… but until there’s movement, it’s still smoke and mirrors. 🔥🏀
