ESPN’s Bobby Marks Explains BENEFITS Of Potential Bradley Beal Waive-And-Stretch
You’re here with ESPN’s Bobby Marks. Bobby, thanks for taking a few minutes. I appreciate it. How are you doing? Well, man, always great to be out here in Vegas, but obviously Phoenix is is what we’re most interested in. I want to kind of get your general thoughts on what’s happened already in the offseason for the Suns. Yeah, I mean, I think it was as expected. I think certainly the Durant trade to Houston kind of, you know, based on what happened this past season was kind of the start of things. Um, I like what they were able to do in the draft with um with Kan Malach and Rashir Fleming and Kobe Bray. I think three players that certainly fit um needs. You know, Jaylen Green and N they got younger. I think that’s the most important thing. They got younger with Jaylen Green. They get a defensive wing and um and Dylan Brooks here. Um I’m interested to see kind of what’s going to be next as far as with this roster. I think it’s it’s developing, but as you guys know, and you follow them, they what we saw last year couldn’t return um for next year. The biggest thing obviously right now is the Bradley Beal situation kind of hanging o over this team’s head. What’s kind of what have you heard in terms of the buyout and how that might work as well? Yeah, I mean, Bill is a little bit different than Damen Lillard where Milwaukee basically waved Lillard without doing a buyout and then they were able to stretch his money over 5 years. that can’t happen in Phoenix just based on they already have about $ three and a half million dollars in uh stretched money with Ner Little and EJ Leell. So any type of be buyout would have to shave at least $14 million off. I think when you’re if you’re Bradley Beal, you’re looking at the market and you’re saying, “Well, can I make that money back?” Um even if it’s going to have to be two years because remember he’s being owed paid for two years here. And I do think there’s a market for him out there. I’m not a big proponent of the stretch provision because I hate dead money sitting on your cap for 20 for five years and $20 million. But I understand the logic of why certainly a Phoenix team that’s been in the second apron that will be in a second apron again. Uh their pick would be frozen in not just 32 but also 33. And by by stretching that money, it just gives you a lot of different resources, different tools that you weren’t able to use before, whether it be one of your exceptions to go out and sign a Blair to be able to finally aggregate contracts to be able to take back more money in a in a deal. Um, and I think as the cap grows, that 20 or $21 million that maybe looks a little bit, you know, ominous right now becomes be starts to become a little bit lesser. You look at Devin Booker’s extension that he signed last night when you look at that in right now it looks like a huge number but again as you look at the cap expanding stuff what was your read on it? Yeah I I kind of knew that was coming you know I think when we look at it you know certainly with Devin even with three years left on his on his um on his original deal supermax you know certainly with the with Matt coming out and saying like we’re going to build around him it just makes more sense as far as to lock up. I think that 75 in that last year probably pops out and be like, “Oh, but that 75 in five years might be like 50 right now.” And that’s kind of how we have to look at, you know, money moving forward. Well, really appreciate it and I and thanks for being on, Bobby. I appreciate it. things around me.

Cool, maybe get it done sometime..
Thank you for this insight and perspective makes me feel better knowing salary cap is always growing in the nba and it’ll sting now but we’ll be back on top in no time
This is really getting old. Let’s keep him for this upcoming year. Present him with a new contract and then trade him. He will definitely want a new contract and if we are smart, it’s a sign in trade.
Cool, still be stupid to waive and stretch Beal, don't do it BG we're not doing shit for the next 2 years at least anyways with the west being at an all time competitive state, be smart enough to look in the mirror
Suns got young legs…let's gooooo
Why gift wrap a Beal to Western Team when we can just keep him this season without playing him so he can either take more off on buyout or just let his value go even lower since he will be year older without playing
I was thinking. Why would Bradley Beal do it? Even if he can get the 13-14 mil he needs to lose from the buyout in the market. What does he gain? It only make sense for him if that is a net gain.
Why is espo wearing his glasses like he’s reading the blue plate specials at the local diner?
BB is a contract player, so in order to get a new contract he should start feeling healthy and putting up good numbers in the second half of the season. If so it might make BB tradable to a team willing to extend his contract. Anyway why stretch to five if it could be over in one.
This is why this ownership is heading in the wrong direction. All you got to do is wait 1 year and you can even buy him out cheaper or find an appropriate team ready for a trade. Beal from the bench could have been great. Then you can have Malouach/Williams , Booker, Brooks, Greene and CP3?.
Its good to see Espo in the wild
What you all keep failing to realize is we have to do this or we get penalties placed against us for draft picks which we have to have. No contender has the cap space for Beal the teams are all filled with there cap space for the most part. The teams with cap space are not going to take beal as they are waiting for next year to hopefully sign a free agent or use thede picks to draft!
